stingslikeabee:
Melissa’s gaze shifted from his face (his eyes – where had she seen those before? She should be able to remember, they were so different) to the book he eventually held from the others, his polite offer with a shared tone of mischief – neither carried… Morally acceptable books in the opinion of many other people, and yet, there they stood, making conversation without a shred of judgement.
Well – that was a welcome surprise. But his suggestion was so generous, particularly when they were so unfamiliar with each other, that it earned him a genuine smile from the honeygirl. She let out a pleased chuckle, and nodded to demonstrate she approved of his idea – Melissa would have extended her hand if she hadn’t caused enough trouble by dropping everything earlier.
“I would love that. But not without giving something to you in exchange, of course,” she nestled her own books better in her arms and added a second small, delicate curtsy this time to introduce herself. “I’m Melissa, I work at the Honey Bee Inn. Would you like to borrow one of these later or perhaps something different? If you put the collaborative collection of all honeygirls together, we surely have some unusual titles that may interest you.”
“Melissa,” He intoned as though had her hand been extended he might bow and raise it to his lips to kiss gently. Instead Genesis merely inclined his head once more. “I’d be delighted to accept. And I’m sure you would have a most comprehensive collection to choose from.”
“Perhaps dealer’s choice would be most appropriate.” He suggested with a coy in his voice and an upturned smile creeping from the edge of his lips, curious with what she may pick to suggest. “A couple of the girls should have some idea of my interests if you ask about the man in red.” He offered her a clue. There was of course also the possibility she already knew the ‘man in red’s’ tastes since gossip tended to run rampant behind the scenes in circles as tight as theirs no doubt. “But you can call me Gen.” Any talk of who he actually was wasn’t for the likes of here so a nickname would suffice without lying.
