1930s Loookbook

After the roaring 20s, fashion became more conservative in the 1930s, with hair and hemlines getting longer again. The era was defined by the great depression, after the stock market crashed in 1929, and lasted through almost the whole decade. Many families during this time began making dresses from flour sacks, and so companies began printing textiles on the sacks for extra reusability. Despite the decade's widespread poverty, fashion themes of femininity and elegance prevailed, inspired by Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford.

1940s Lookbook

Fedoras, trench coats, Hollywood glamour, and American patriotism, it’s the 1940s! WWII had a huge effect on the fashion of the 40s. Rationing meant people were encouraged to wear utilitarian garments with less fabric. Wide-legged high waisted pants were popular on men and women, as the war necessitated more women to enter the workforce, often working in factories.

Claire Yamada (she/her)

Claire is fashion forward and edgy, but don’t judge a book by its cover—she’s also graduate student pursuing her PhD in astrophysics. She tends to be a bit reserved and mysterious, but if you bring up a topic she’s passionate about, like physics, coding, or midcentury sci-fi novels, she’ll talk for hours. 

Likes: Playing piano, space, the color black, geeky books and TV, clothes

Dislikes: camping, loud chewing, PDA, being underestimated

James Villanueva (he/him)

James is high energy and talkative. He’s not really sure what he wants to do with the rest of his life (perhaps an event coordinator or social media manager?) but he has a strong moral compass and is not afraid to speak his mind. In his free time he dances and works as a lifeguard.

Likes: pastel colors, purple, tattoos, parties, dancing

Dislikes: rude people, cold weather, black coffee, team sports

Anatomica: A Tattoo Set

I love anatomical tattoos and have a human heart tattooed on my left shoulder, so I thought it would be cool to have my tattoo in-game. So here’s my human heart tat along with 5 other anatomy tattoos. Fun fact: the two cross-sectional torsos (one male, one female), were taken from the book De humani corporis fabrica by Andreas Vesalius, who was a 16th century anatomist. It’s a beautiful, historic book and a must read if you like anatomy and the human body.

1950s Lookbook

After the end of World War II, the 50s brought about a new wave of consumerism to America, the rise of suburbia, and women leaving the workforce after the war to become housewives. After the end of wartime thrift, skirts got fuller and decorative femininity was embraced. Women’s trousers, such as cigarette pants, became more common. Movie stars like James Dean also popularized the iconic Rebel Without a Cause look: jeans, white shirts, leather jackets, and greased-back hair.

1960s Lookbook

The 1960s brought a wave of change to America, as more women went into the workforce, civil rights legislation was finally passed, and the Vietnam War changed America forever. Out of the conservatism of the 1950s rose many different countercultures, like the beatnik movement and the hippies. With mod fashion came bright color blocking and and miniskirts, a popular fashion staple to this day.

1970s Lookbook

In the 1970s the Vietnam War raged on, and the hippie movement of the 60s continued into this decade. The rise of disco in the mid to late 70s sparked the popularity of platform shoes, chunky heels, sequins, and three-piece polyester suits as worn by John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. And lets not forget the iconic bellbottoms. This my personal favorite decade for fashion, music, and film!

1980s Lookbook

The 80s brought us some very notable music, movies, and of course, fashion. Clothing was all about making a statement: with big hair, bight colors, big shoulders, and bold jewelry. Neon was everywhere, mullets were actually cool, and aerobics was taking over the world. Movies and TV had a heavy influence on fashion too, like the oversized sweatshirt craze started by Flashdance, or the rise of the Hawaiian shirt thanks to Magnum, P.I.

1990s Lookbook

Parachute pants, flannel, bucket hats, the fall of the Soviet Union– it’s the 90s! Many trends from the 80s continued over into this decade, such as the popularity of fluorescent colors and shoulder pads. As bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden rose to popularity, grunge fashion became very mainstream. Famous hip-hip artists like MC Hammer, Tupac, N.W.A., and Public Enemy had a heavy influence on 1990s fashion as well.

2000s Lookbook

Some notable fashion trends from the beginning of the 21st century included low rise pants, lip gloss, ugg boots, and miniskirts. The Iraq war also influenced fashion trends in America, causing a rise in popularity of camo print and cargo pants. Base game sims already has a lot of clothing from this period.
