The Planetary Joys
Hellenistic Astrology was the lineage of traditions that were practiced across the Greco-Roman world from about 100BC to about 600AD. Their system looked drastically different than the type of astrology we have in the modern day, and one of those differences was a system of determining planetary strength based off of house placement.
This system is not the same as that of sign rulership, nor is it the modern “Alphabet” system of planetary house rulership. When examining these placement one should use the ‘whole sign’ system of house division, since it’s what Hellenistic astrologers would have used.
☉ The Sun is said to “joy” in the 9th House
☽ The Moon is said to “joy” in the 3rd House
☿ Mercury is said to “joy” in the 1st House
♀ Venus is said to “joy” in the 5th House
♂ Mars is said to “joy” in the 6th House
♃ Jupiter is said to “joy” in the 11th House
♄ Saturn is said to “joy” in the 12th House
**while there are many more complexities and radical differences one should consider when looking at a chart through the Hellenistic lens, it’s fun to examine even a small part of what ancient astrologers would have seen.
Tumblr media
I have yet to fully dive in to traditional house significations, and so I thought it might be fun or interesting to look at the Joys through the lens of Modern Astrology before doing so.
Mercury in the 1st House
Those born with Mercury in the 1st House have a natural curiosity about the world around them. They are inquisitive and bright, and become known for their intellectual prowess. They have quick wits, and even quicker minds that are well suited to problem-solving and communication. They may spend a lot of time figuring out who they are and what they want from life, but they are not afraid to ask questions and make connections to help them towards that end. Mercury in the 1st also indicates great dexterity and physical agility. These natives can  catch on to things quickly and they easily learn new skills. They are able to be present in their surroundings and take much joy in engaging with them.
Moon in the 3rd House
The Moon here indicates a sort of atmospheric connection to one’s everyday environment. Natives become attuned to its ebbs and flows, and end up becoming a master of its timing. They connect more deeply with others as they can authentically communicate their feelings, and they have a strong bond with their siblings. These natives learn quickly and they are able to trust their intuition when acquiring new skills. They may have a particular knack for learning new languages and make good writers due to their ability to effectively communicate their inner world. They pick up on subtext in conversations more easily than most, and as such they read others well.
Venus in the 5th House
Venus delights in the house of fun and creativity, since here her natural artistry and aesthetic eye can flourish. Natives possess an increased appreciation for music and the arts, and easily delight in romance and adventure. The native is charming and amiable, with the ability to entice others through their sense of creative play. Creative talents are amplified, and the native has a penchant for speculation. Should the native have children they would be beautiful, charming, and likeable. Creative endeavors are typically well received just as the native encourages the talents of others. Should one go into business through the pursuit of their own talents it is likely to be well received by the public and may turn significant gain.
Mars in the 6th House
Natives with this placement have an innate work ethic that is undeniable. Mars here indicates an inexhaustible stamina (especially in the fixed signs) and the ability to be calculating and strategic when allocating resources toward daily tasks. There can be a marked interest in health and exercise, and such things will be approached with martial intensity. Indeed martial artists would do well with a placement like this, since it indicates the integration of the mind/body and the ability to put them both to work. Mars here can indicate turmoil with affairs of health, but at the same time enough seriousness and resolve to overcome or manage such things by approaching them in a holistic manner. The native should be wary of diverting too much energy towards meaningless tasks, and always have a distinct end goal in mind (lest they miss the forest for the trees).
Sun in the 9th House
The creative potential of this placement is fulfilled through the promise of expanding horizons. The native with the Sun here heavily identifies with their beliefs, and as such they can have a dedicated sense of the divine present in everyday life. Care should be taken that the native does not over-identify with their beliefs (to the exclusion of all others), because when they remain flexible and open-minded this native can become a great mentor to others, just as they will have found their own mentors in life. They become known for their far-reaching views and their ability to look beyond mundane life in order to ask the important questions in life.
Jupiter in the 11th House
Jupiter here allows for an ever-expanding network of friends and associates. The good will of the native is diverted into their social sphere, and others find good-fortune in knowing them. They always know just the person for this task or that and they delight in making the connections. This native is likely to have a generally positive worldview, and they believe in the power of people to make a positive change in the world. Indeed this positivity and belief draws many allies to the side of the native, and in turn they see much reward in life. The native likely has high moral standards for their friend groups, and may enjoy meeting new people through religious affiliations.
Saturn in the 12th House
The native with Saturn in the 12th House has an innate talent for giving form to the formless, and they intuitively test spiritualism against the hardened shape of reality. These people have a deep and resounding fear of isolation, and in their lifetimes become privy to the sacred knowledge that we are never truly alone. This position indicates the methodical application of the collective unconscious creative potential and reveals that they can become a master of the end of the cycle. Initially they will fear the falling away of things, and in time they settle into that feeling and are able to use things to their utmost benefit before they eventually pass onward.

Saturn in the 9th house
Tumblr media
Saturn can represent parents, karma, restrictions, lessons, and maturity, as well as growth. In the 9th house Saturn may represent: Restrictions in beliefs, travel, and learning institutions.
May have had strict parents who tried to impose their beliefs onto them. May have been heavily criticized and ridiculed for ones own beliefs.
May have struggled with higher learning institutions, taking a longer time to finish studies or taking multiple breaks away from school. It’s also possible to experience some depression around higher learning institutions and authority with Saturn here.
This placement is often brilliant but doesn’t feel the need to be in conventional academic settings. May have had to deal with harsh teachers and people in authority.
May be anti authority, as being exposed to those who abused their authority when younger.
May not believe or have faith in anything growing up. The type to be atheist. But as they mature and grow they learn about their own spiritual power in connection to the universe.
They can learn a lot from their travels 🧳, whether it’s physical or of the higher mind, these will expand their mind greatly.
In severe cases could of have had parents that tried to force religion on them. In turn repelling them from it entirely.
Highly intuitive but needs to learn to not be afraid to speak out at times.
They can help open others minds
May have long travels, or travels with delays.
Loves to explore things that expand their horizons and mind.
They can actually be highly spiritual, great teachers as well.
They truly do care about upholding ancestral traditions if they’re truly beneficial and sacred.
Needs to cultivate their own belief system rather than following someone else’s.
Despises anyone or thing who tries to control their mind.
They don’t want to live on the surface they want to go deeper

𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞
☪️ likes learning but only about weird and unusual things like if the Atlantic city is real or vampires could ever exist or something called biology??
☪️ likes TEACHING more than anything, you know why? It's easier for them to process all the information they gartered by telling other people about it
☪️ obviously, they like to travel, get out of their house, leave the city, probably the country, big i hate locals energy
☪️ god complex
☪️ will only and only date people smarter than them, it's not like with the 3rd house that they will try to date someone who's smart but not smarter than them, 9th house placements need to date someone they see as a mentor without it being creepy
☪️ 9/10 knows another language, probably they learned it when they were hyperfixating on a movie or show or song with that language and learned it in less than a year
☪️ it's probably smarter than you
☪️ they have aquarius smartness without the cynicism and the need for validation (sorry aquas, you're still an air sign), they'll just learn a lot about stupid things that no oke cares about so they have nobody to talk to about it
☪️ has thought about doing a cult of a religion they believed in only for a day lol

𝔞𝔯𝔦𝔢𝔰 𝔦𝔫 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔫𝔦𝔫𝔱𝔥 𝔥𝔬𝔲𝔰𝔢
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♇ the ninth house being the house of expansion, implying that anything that lands here, the themes of it will be more colossal and amplified. on the other hand, the ninth house conveys about the teachings of the father, to have aries here indicates that your father could've taught you to be more action-oriented, innovating and independent. however, most of the times you didnt even need to have that lesson taught face to face. perchance it is what you've seen from your father or what your father has put you through that has made you into this person that is a go-getter and commanding.
♇ as much as the ninth house is about the teachings of the father, it also communicates about the abstract thought of an individual, those with aries in the ninth house believe that everyone should be their own leader, even though they are people who liked to lead, there are things in life where you have to become your own chief and commander. due to the fact that there isnt going to be someone who is going to hold your hand all the time.
♇ this house speaks of religion, and how someone might assert themselves into religion or think of religion. those with aries in the ninth house aren't very likely to participate in a religion that restricts them or a religion that would want to have power and control over them. as they're people who want to lead themselves and be natives who like to do whatever they want, it'll be quite impossible for them to participate in system of belief. however, when they're not rebellious against a religion, they can become someone who is very devoted and passionate towards it, becoming someone who participates in fasting, daily prayers and so on.
♇ moving onto morals, having aries in the ninth house can make someone have naive morals, or very youthful ones they have to grow out of. having morals that are too rash and straight-forward, but as they become people who scout atmospheres and understanding the room they're in, they become people who are insightful, becoming someone who has morals that arent viewed as reckless and foolish and more wise and dominant.
♇ what many people dont know is that the ninth house is deemed as the house of worship, it's how people would worship the individual (especially if they're influencers or celebrities). so someone with aries in the ninth house would have people worship them passionately, openly and confidently, though, it can make people worship that native with a naive mindset, can be aggressive when it comes to worshipping them and can come off across as hot-tempered if someone tried to question why they behave this way towards the ninth house person.
♇ the ninth house also conveys about long distance travel, and to have aries in this house shows that these individuals like to have fast trips, they can get impatient if they're in the same vehicle or spot for a long time. they could be the type of people who could get road rage and the type of people who would rather get on very quick trains. nonetheless, having aries in the ninth house signifies that these individuals can be interested in travelling to countries like palestine, germany, syria, england, lithuania, sierra leone, zimbabwe and senegal, could differ when the planetary ruler for this house, (in this context mars) residing in a different house.
♇ we come to the planetary ruler of the ninth house, in this post, it is mars, having mars in the ninth house can make someone passionate about what they believe in, could be religion, spirituality, morals and philosophy, can make them very argumentative and could have morals that are considered as naive or violent or wise and enthusiastic. could indicate that the type of people who worship these kins could be men or people who have a lot of masculine energy. these people are very impatient when it comes to travelling; could have an expanded libido as well.
♇ with the ninth house being naturally ruled by jupiter and jupiter being the planet of "the husband", the ninth house could speak about the placements and characteristics a spouse would have. to have aries here shows that someone's future spouse could have aries prominent in their chart, or aries in their big six or having a placement in aries that impacts them a lot in their life. on the other hand, they can be someone who is deemed as active, adventurous, a leader and independent, though they can also come off as someone who is hot-tempered, impatient, pushy and rude.
♇ as the ninth house speaks of future spouse it also speaks about the in-laws you will receive, if you ever wanted to marry someone. to have aries in the ninth house could indicate that your future spouse's side of the family will take the lead more often, or they will be people who are initiative and very independent. and if both sides meaning your future spouse's side and your side of the family do like to wear the pants and be seen as leaders, then there could be clashes between the two families, or you would realise that your in-laws would want you to follow their traditions, beliefs and so on. on the other hand, this could entail that your in-laws are very passionate, devoted, fun and brave people and they could be the louder side of the family. could imply that they belong to a country where there is either strong or naive leadership.
♇ the house of higher education, like i said in aries in the third house, as the third house and ninth house are both axis houses, it'll manifest the same way. however, having aries in the ninth house is an indicator of someone being brilliant at polymath. or in any advanced education that clicks on their winner energy and being able to solve something before other people. they cannot take part in something they would drop the minute the class is other; as polymath is complex, it'll make the aries in the ninth house native want to solve it even more.
♇ in astrology, each houses rules a body part, and the ninth house rules the thighs and hips, with aries residing in the ninth house (could entail of someone having a big head) but having very toned thighs and hips, with aries being a very muscular sign, whatever aspect and house it lands in, it'll make sure it would give off a very fit, robust and competent impact on those limbs. it could give you lean thighs and hips and make them be average sized.
♇ in conclusion, this house conveys about foreign people, places and cultures, as i said in previous paragraphs before, people who have aries in the ninth house might contemplate about travelling to countries like palestine, germany, syria, england, lithuania, sierra leone, zimbabwe and senegal; however, they are deemed as people who would want to travel to countries people havent been to, being the "first" to travel somewhere or they imagine themselves travelling the world at a young age. when they go to other countries they're likely to meet people who are optimistic about guiding them and foreign who are excited to meet them or see them.

How you are like in school using the 3rd-9th house axis:
3rd house is thought to be early education (until high school) and 9th is higher education like college, Masters or PhD. Observations are my own.
With astrology axis, it's important to note that you are always pulling from both sides. Striving for balance is key.
Aries 3rd/Libra 9th: Likely competitive in school. Given leader roles from a young age. Feeling like you had to do it all yourself. As you got older, you learned balance and depending on others. Learning the art of delegation to lead. Possibly a serial dater in college.
Taurus 3rd/Scorpio 9th: Could love naps and seek stability. An anchor in friend groups. Comfort is a priority. As you get older, you get more private and selective. Could shown interest in occult (astrology, tarot, etc). Magnetic.
Gemini 3rd/ Sag 9th: A talker, a bubbly and witty friend. Could use your hands a lot (Gemini rules hands). Close to your siblings. Seen as inquisitive and smart. As you get older, you could study abroad. Explore religions or philosophies. Have a large friend group. Seen as funny and a free spirit.
Cancer 3rd/Capricorn 9th: Likely emotional in school. Could have been subtly popular. Kind. Could have been a mom friend. People could have been protective over you. As you get older, you are likely more driven and ambitious. Success in later years of school like junior and senior year of college(Saturn rewards). Lots of lessons in beginning years of school like first and second year of college. Seen as put together and hardworking.
Leo 3rd/Aquarius 9th: You were likely popular. Could have peaked in early school years, if not careful. Unapologetically yourself. As you get older, you attract friends who are "weird" or own their individuality like you. Could work with technology. Could thrive in groups and advocacy work.
Virgo 3rd/Pisces 9th: Teacher's pet. Particular about school and school supplies. Could be studious. Unexpectedly funny friend. Could draw people to you who need healing. As you get older, you could be seen as dreamy. Possibly more artistic. Drawn to spirituality a lot. Could have a large friend group (Jupiter) but could be disillusioned or hurt by friends (Neptune).
Libra 3rd/ Aries 9th: Popular, likely known for looks and charm. Could have been a little matchmaker or a lot of people's crush. A mediator between friend groups. As you get older, you are more assertive. May take on leadership qualities and try new things. May get into fitness (especially high intensity workouts). People see you as sexy and direct.
Scorpio 3rd/ Taurus 9th: Scorpio in 3rd can give popular without trying. Something about you that people gravitate to. Private and a bit of a loner. Selective in friendship. As you get older, you earn more money in jobs. People see you as stable and hardworking. Could be likely to indulge yourself and loved ones.
Sag 3rd/ Gemini 9th: Gemini-Sag axis gives class clown energy. Quite popular as a kid, with an abundance of friends and groups. Adventurous and curious. Might correct their teachers. As you got older, you were talkative but still interested in learning (but more selective than when you were a kid). Likable through school and thrives in a learning environment.
Cap 3rd/ Cancer 9th: Could have a hard early school life. Likely seen as a leader and hardworker. Gaining respect and admiration from people. Could have been interested in money from a young age (hustling from all those lemonade stands lol). Could have been seen as stoic and a "little adult". As you get older, you are more nurturing. Could face turbulent emotions. Likely popular (moon that rules Cancer is a luminary).
Aquarius 3rd/ Leo 9th: Seen as weird and eccentric. Possibly lived for computer class. Drew into other people who didn't quite fit in. A young humanitarian. As you got older, you owned what made you different in school in the younger years. Likely popular during college. Could be a drama or theater kid.
Pisces 3rd/ Virgo 9th: Might be religious as a child. Could appear spacey to classmates and friends. Might shock their teachers by saying randomly profound things. Once you get older, you are studious and structured. Likely drawn to fields like medicine.
Happy back to school season y'all! Blessings on your year and studies ✨️
