i was really just messing around with the idea of christina’s life in saintsville being somewhat (although not entirely) parallel to orel’s, and ended up sketching this–i utterly adore the concept of christina having her own older sister figure in saintsville, just as orel has stephanie! not quite sure what her name would be just yet, but since i’d assume christina would’ve been coached by her parents to grow up to become the perfect housewife due to protestant prospects, i thought, why not make her stephanie more of a rebel towards those ideals? a wonderful feminist fighting for equal rights in the 1990′s!
she’s a mechanic, hence the little oil slash across christina’s cheek, and christina apprentices for her! i love the idea of art and poppit posabule utterly despising all the little oil stains christina comes home with after visiting her garage/workshop
anyways, i may draw saintsvilles own pastor, as well! i imagine, in contrast to putty, he’d be very popular with the ladies, however i will fiercely hold onto my own silly little headcanon that he is actually on the ace spectrum
also, i was messing around a lot with colour!!

– major moral orel spoilers!!
a fun, and quite sad fact–one of moral orel’s more underrated lost episodes was going to be called ‘narcissism’, primarily centred around the relationship between reverend putty and florence papermouth. i’m sobbing here because it had so much good material in it, for multiple characters. i.e. a deeper look, albeit fleeting, into orel’s understanding of clay and arthurs’ tense situation, and a ton of orel, putty, and stephanie wholesomeness!! this was meant to take place about mid-way through season 3
Tumblr media
queue putty rambling to himself in front of the entire congregation
Tumblr media
this is genuinely a heart-wrenching moment in the script, and i’m so disappointed it wasn’t addressed in the show. this is orel genuinely acknowledging clay and arthurs’ troubled relationship, briefly, but it really is a symbol of how far orel has come in terms of maturity. it truly makes you wonder whether clay actually brought up the story of his mother to orel, perhaps simply out of spite, or as a way to turn orel away from arthur’s philosophies and get back at him for his neglect, even passingly whilst drunk
and it really shows that despite the shooting incident, orel still looks out for clay and cares for him, as troubled (an understatement) as their relationship is, orel still wants the best for him. even through all the pain that clay has put him through. he really is a great kid
and i think he knows that if clay continues to devolve into a more pitiful, pathetic man, suffocating on his own misery, it not only endangers clay, but the people around him. especially his two younger brothers
Tumblr media
nurse bendy, the light of my life. she genuinely strives to change her perspective on men because she loves joe, and only wants the best for her son. despite how terribly mistreated she has been by so many men
these experiences have definitely warped her perspective on men in general, and as you can see in the episode ‘dumb’, she even ties her ‘hubby’ down to his chair, after the events of s3e4. that was her final breaking point, a sudden snap out of the safety of fantasy, from the lovely little familiar bubble she had created. with that, it all fell apart. and genuinely who can blame her? from a young age, she was objectified. these are not poor life decisions, these are others inflicting sick, depraved suffering on her
and doesn’t this link to modern times as well. she is objectified literally on a daily basis, and the only men to ever have called her smart ended up taking advantage of her anyways. stephanie and nurse bendy being lovers is literally the little closure i have
Tumblr media
my favourite family. these three have my entire heart. it’s really odd that orel knows that term, but he goes on to say he learnt it from observing his father, or something along the lines of that. i’m not too surprised about that, eyes clay and danielle
Tumblr media
MY HEART!! THEY ARE SO LOVELY!! just take a moment to picture all the times orel and stephanie would’ve eagerly supported their dad, holy shit
Tumblr media
cue ‘hell and you’ by amigo the devil
Tumblr media
i love florence so much, and honestly? i rooted for her and rod. this episode was set up with such a sweet, fulfilling ending, and i’m so disappointed it never made the cut. the dialogue in this episode was so good, and i recommend for everyone to check it out themselves some time. i love how it explored not only putty by himself, but the struggles of several other characters. it deserves so much more recognition!! i’m so sorry if i’m spamming the moral orel tl, but i have so much brain-rot surrounding this silly little puppet show and i cannot stop thinking about this specific episode

to this day i still can’t tell whether that was directed at clay or bloberta. i‘m sure i know the answer, i simply choose to ignore it. also bloberta’s annoyed little smirk is so cute
this is off-topic, but i love the absolutely done look everyone gives clay and danielle when they flirt in public. it’s so funny

okay i am rewatching all three seasons of moral orel and i’ve picked up on a rather trivial implication but... foreshadowing for ‘numb’? (bloberta isn’t a whore at all, but i’m pretty certain this is a hint hint nudge nudge moment)

i just saw someone insult doughy latchkey for his actions in s3e5, aka the ‘trigger’ episode, and as much as i respect every individuals personal opinions and interpretations of characters (especially since moral orel is all about morally ambiguous characters, who many viewers are inclined to grow a hate/love relationship with) i completely disagree. case in point, doughy is a child who has grown up in a very neglectful household, seen in several episodes where he is completely overlooked and pushed aside. in the episode ‘courtship’, it is quite clear that doughy seems to latch on to whoever gives him even a single lick of affection, due to the toxic environment he has had to grow up in. i don’t excuse people treating their friends poorly at all, especially when said friend is in a dangerous situation such as orel’s, but you have got to sympathise with doughy. it was a mistake on his part, absolutely, but antagonising him for it is very wrong, when you keep in mind his psychology at the time
it’s actually not dissimilar to clay puppington’s behaviour in ‘help’, after weighing his worthiness with abuse since his mother passed away, having bloberta actually eagerly lend him that leverage made him end up clinging to her in a way, like a lifeline. in doughy’s case, even if he very evidently threw orel under the bus (figuratively of course), clay was really wrong to lure him into a sense of familiarity, and act as a father figure that doughy previously lacked. anyways, doughy latchkey deserves better, and he and orel’s friendship is one of the most precious things in the show

– quick content warning for huge moral orel spoilers, and an essay ahead!
i’d just like to quickly bring everyone’s attention to the fact that orel post-s1e10 (the best christmas ever episode) literally begun to go through ego crucifixion, very evidently displaying signs of it. the christmas episode was where it evidently branched from, seeing as the very last thing on orel’s mind during the ‘praying’ episode was bloberta’s words and the effect they had on him. all the way up until the ‘nature’ episode, where the process finally came to finality. here is an actual definition of what ego death is ;
“the border between one's self and the external world dissolving”
in plainer terms, ego death is the absence of the self, a "complete loss of subjective self-identity” and the concept revolves around leaving behind a lot of emotional baggage, i think if moral orel had continued on into seasons 4 & 5, we would’ve seen orel mature through to adolescence a lot more clearly, and a more in-depth course of growth from the innocent kid he used to be
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as you can see by the comparison–he is sadly much more convoluted than he was before the chronological chain of terrible events that came after s1e10. i personally believe it would’ve been really cool to have an episode revolving around the subject of ego crucifixion in general, as it is such a prevalent topic throughout the show, especially with its heavy ties to psychedelics (s1e3, an episode on the basis of the abuse of drugs, although ego death itself isn’t exactly explicit in the episode) as well as traumatic experiences
it is very much so a coping mechanism for the mind!
it is a process of maturing, as well as healing, spiritually, and in orel’s case, maturing too fast. it summarises the process of death and rebirth in the hero’s journey, and comparing season 1 orel to season 3 orel, it is very clear! i may have to make a separate post regarding orel’s journey (in regards to the ‘hero’s journey’) as well, because i think that would be pretty neat
here’s a quick little timeline of orel’s process of ego death, in fact most of it happens during the nature episode, in part 2 predominantly!
leaving behind attachment (attachment towards the idea he once had of his father, the way he idolised clay and looked up to him)
Tumblr media
leaving behind ignorance (surrounding the hope that, if orel continued to play the part of a good, worthy son who followed his fathers teachings as much as possibly achievable, his father would change for the better. at a certain point in ‘nature’, he realises that a leopard cannot change its spots, despite how much he prays for it, and clay’s redemption is too far-fetched at that point. this is seen when he lies to clay about not shooting the bear, he is giving up on that hope)
Tumblr media
leaving behind anger (anger towards clay’s lack of sympathy to orel after shooting him in the leg during their hunting trip, and his awful habits when drunk, his ‘true nature’. he grows almost apathetic, even towards clay’s threats. orel, in my opinion, wasn’t as angry about the actually shooting, as he was angry at clay’s careless behaviour towards it)

you think "he" would've actually been name-dropped if the show hadn't been cancelled? since it was confirmed that the fifth season would have been much more centric around the residents of moralton in general rather than orel himself, imagine that
