( Arknights)Ifrit & Projekt Red’s Unholy Pact aka Aak has a bad time.
Ifrit and Projekt Red do not get along. Ifrit’s loud, immature, and is very into arson. Red is quiet, stoic, and likes to stab things. They do not get along. Red sees Ifrit as a potential threat to be put down. Ifrit thinks Red is a judgemental freak. They do not get along.
The one thing they do agree on is Aak needs to go down. He insults Silence and in Ifrit’s book that’s an immediate death sentence by the way of immediate combustion. He insults Dr. Kal’stit and in Red’s book that merits an immediate death sentence by way of stabbing.
Here’s the thing: Murdering coworkers is not allowed, unless Silence/Ascalon say it is. This presents a dilemma to the two. Ifrit might have her storybook privileges revoked, and Silence might also give her a disappointed mom look. Truly, a fate worse than death. Kal’stit might not allow Red to pet Provence’s tail, and if Red can’t pet those fluffy tails why even live?
They can’t kill Aak, but they can bug him. It starts simple. Aak’s things start to go missing. He can’t find a medical textbook, and some of his Cocaine goes missing. PRTS doesn’t catch anything on camera except for a flash of red. It only escalates from their. A beaker he’s using in his lab explodes. Ifrit just happens to be in the lab with Silence. His lunch goes missing the second he goes away. His room becomes very hot with no warning. Aak’s not stupid. He knows the two are up to something. He goes to the Doctor for help.
“Doctor, those two are plotting against me.”
The Doctor, who saw Ifrit and Red shaking hands, and immediately left because they know a losing battle when seeing one, “Yeah, sure. Next you’ll tell me PRTS is based off somebody I used to know.”
Aak goes to Hung next. Hung will know what to do. He’s basically Aak’s brother.
“Don’t you think you are being a little dramatic? They’re just kids.”
“They stole my supply of LSD”
“Your supply of what?”
“Uh, nevermind.”
He tries Waifuu next. Surely, a martial arts using hero of justice can help him out? Waifuu doesn’t even look up from her textbook. Those essays aren’t going to write themselves.
He tries Lee next. Lee laughs him out of the office. Aak knew the experiment that changed Lee from a Carp to a Lung would bite him in the ass one day.
Aak can’t sleep. His things are stolen. Any lab experiment inevitably burst into flames. He lives in a perpetual state of terror and he can’t retaliate.
The medical department absolutely knows what’s going on, but they like seeing Aak eat shit.
Aak gets desperate. He gets on his hands and knees and begs Warfarin to help him in full view of the Rhodes Islands medical department. It’s a truly touching soliloquy about how maybe, just maybe, if you look at it from a certain point of you; not all doctors are pieces of shit, and  in a million years, Warfarin might be on Aak’s level.
Warfarin raises Aak head up with a single finger under his chin. “I always knew you’d kneel before me, Drug boy.”
Aak is obliterated on the spot. Ifrit and Projekt Red go back to hating each other knowing they’ve inflicted a fate truly worse than death on Aak. Ptilopsis and Silence rewarding Ifrit with a bucket of candy might’ve helped. Red being able to pet Texas tail might’ve helped too.

You know every show that the premise is like “people find out ghosts/monsters/demons are real and are charged with stopping them” appeal to me way more now as a post-graduate not because I believe in ghosts more or whatever but because can you IMAGINE just being handed a job that you don’t even need to apply for? Like just being told “basically there’s this bad thing and all you do is make sure it doesn’t do what it wants” that’s just customer service baby and I worked that for 6 goddamn years! Just TRY getting past “I have a job to offer you” before I can jump down your throat agreeing.

The Child-Soldier Duos of Rhodes Island
Rhodes Island despite being a pharmaceutical company has a lot of child soldiers. This is sad, but due to how many there are on RI they can have friends. Here is the list so far which will most likely be expanded.
Ifrit and Eyja - Ifrit’s natural heat and loudness allows Eyja to easily see due to her heat sensing arts. And before you go, wouldn’t Ifrit’s flames be too strong for Eyja’s heat sensing arts? Eyja works close to Volcanoes. Eyja finds Ifrit’s honesty refreshing, and Ifrit is thrilled to have found a friend who doesn’t mind how loud she is. Plus Eyja’s super smart just like Silence!
Projekt Red and Frostleaf:- These two are peas in a pod. They both enjoy the quiet, and are canonically homework buddies. Red doesn’t mind when Frostleaf starts ignoring everybody in favor of music. Frostleaf in turn coaches Red on how to properly ask the resident Lupos if Red can pet their tails. Red still doesn’t quite get why she can’t walk on walls, but Frostleaf is working on it.
Arene and Vermeil - Helping their weird adoptive uncle Executor is a full time job, and the man prolly would have died were it not for their guidance.
Suzuran and Shamare - Shamare speaks with the Loa. Suzuran communes with the Kami. The difference is really academic. Shamare can help Suzuran keep away her adoring fanbase. Suzuran can help Shamare and Mort perform rituals.
Popukar and Mousse - These two are book buddies. Popukar thinks Mousse’s claws are rad. Mousse doesn’t mind when Popukar enters a beserk rage. Everybody has bad days after all.
Amiya and Rosmontis - Peanut butter and Jelly, Burgers and Fries, and The Lord of Fiends and a Successful Lab Experiment. Is there a more iconic duo on Rhodes Island? I can’t think of any. Both can bond over their shared trauma. Both have gotten into hour long arguments over which one is cuter. Both can absolutely fuck up people’s shit. And both have been mothered by Kalstit. They besties.
I left out a few, but these duos can make up a squad. It just needs some Defenders and Medics.

Lol no, Chen’s like 21/22 by the time we meet her. She and Talulah have one year between them. Therefore Talulah was prolly 16 when she met up with Frostnova.
A great thing to keep in mind is that Talulah was a grown ass woman but FrostNova was like 14 during the flashbacks, and the Yeti Squad is on the same age bracket, just a bit older, so basically, this squadron of child soldiers saw this 20 something year old Draco approach them like “haha, nice fighting, fellow kids! Look, I can melt your ice” and when she did, FrostNova immediately threw hands with this adult.
It’s the bizarro version of this

Amiya and what she represents to the Sarkaz.
I meant to make this post when Chapter 7 was released but RL happened. I’d like to start off by saying that Amiya is incredibly brave. I apologize for stating the obvious but Amiya didn’t have to reform Babel into a Pharmaceutical company dedicated to helping the one group of people that is universally despised by almost all nations on Terra. She did step forward and there are going to be consequences of that because she represents a new path for the Sarkaz. A path of Sarkaz dominion. Theresis doesn’t actually have the credentials of the Lord of Fiends, Sarkaz all across Terra are discriminated against, and more importantly the Patriot delivered a prophecy that the entire Central Chernobog Plate could hear that Amiya is The Demon King who will be ruin to Terra.
Theresis left Kazdel for Victoria once he won. I’ve already stated this but he left the nation he helped destroy once he won. The Sarkaz of Kazdel must have been furious. They ruined their own country for a leader that promised them greatness, and he left. However, he’s all they had left. But it turns out there is a Lord of Fiends out there. Amiya’s a Cautus but she has the Arts of the Sarkaz Kings and works with Theresa’s close allies. Amiya of course didn’t advertise that she was Theresa’s successor because Theresis would have promptly killed her. It’s honestly weird that he didn’t kill the rest of Babel after Theresa died. We know he’s aware that his sister’s organization never changed hands. He also went out of his way to kill his own commanders that participated in the operation that lead to Theresa’s death. It’s odd that he didn’t choose to exterminate the rest of Theresa’s allies, but his motivations can be talked about in another post. Amiya has the proof that she’s the Lord of Fiends to the rest of the Sarkaz race. She just doesn’t choose to advertise it, and that’s the best decision she could’ve made because Rhodes Island would be blacklisted by almost every country if it was found out that it’s leader is Sarkaz royalty.
Rhodes Island lives or dies by it’s neutrality. Amiya announcing that she’s the Lord of Fiends would not only end with her being  actively targeted by Theresis. It would also probably start another Civil War and increase the persecution that the Sarkaz face in the world. Amiya’s status as the King of Sarkaz would put every action that Rhodes Island into a new light. All of the Sarkaz that spread out across Terra after the Civil War, every nation on Terra is now looking at them like they’re sleeper agents. Those Wendigos currently ekeing out a living in Columbia. Who’s to say that they wouldn’t leave their lives to go serve a new King who is going to build a home for them? There’s also the matter of the prophecy.
Kal’stit ordered all of Rhodes Islands operators to not listen to a word Patriot said. That didn’t help much because Patriot’s voice was so loud that it echoed across the whole of Chernobog’s central plate. All the Rhodes Island operators heard it. Patriot’s shielders heard it, and whoever else was near the area heard it. I suspect news of that is going to spread and that’s not a good thing. Patriot says that all the Sarkaz Prophecies have come true. And the prophecy he delivered to Amiya sounds pretty bad. A demon king enslaving every race and thousands dying in the blink of the eye is a horrendous fate to the nations of Terra. However, one man’s villain is another man’s hero. In this case it’s one race’s Devil is another race’s Messiah. The Sarkaz have been discriminated against throughout their entire history. The leader who won the previous Civil War is nowhere to be found. The nation is a ruin. However, there’s an actual Lord of Fiends out there. She is a Cautus, but she can use the Arts of Sarkaz Royalty and most of Theresa’s supporters work with her. More than that she is the Promised Lord of Fiends. She already killed the Last Wendigo just as the prophecies said. All the races that have discriminated against the Sarkaz will bow down before her. And the prophecies have never been wrong.
Amiya’s arts, the discrimination Sarkaz face all across Terra, and the prophecy of The Lord of Fiends makes Amiya into the Promised King for the Sarkaz. The prophecy explicitly says all races will be enslaved by the Demon King. However, Amiya herself notes that people throughout history have interpreted the prophecies in their own ways. And the Sarkaz on Terra have plenty of reasons to choose Amiya over Theresis who led them into this state of ruin. And despite Kalstit’s best efforts, Amiya may have to step forward as Theresa’s chosen successor given the stinger of Chapter 7.

Mephisto & W
I made a discovery today. Mephisto and W are the only bosses to have unique stun animations. I was using W to beat the old bosses since that’s just what you do. And I discovered that Mephisto has an operator’s stun animation where he will take a knee upon being stunned. W during her boss fight also has the same animation. I thought this was just a coincidence at first. W’s a boss of course she’d have a unique stun animation. Skullshatter doesn’t have it, Frostnova doesn’t, and I’m not even sure you can stun Patriot. However if W had a unique stun animation and so does Mephisto, does that mean Mephisto will be featured in a future banner?

Take up Weapon, Become Sarkaz
One thing that really surprised me about Darknights Memoir is how inclusive Sarkaz culture turned out to be. Ines isn’t a Sarkaz, for all intents and purposes she’s just a weirdo who shaved her horns to look similar to a Sarkaz. W makes fun of her for it, but W makes fun of everything. Hedley and the other Sarkaz in the mercenary group really don’t give a shit. And why should they? Ines lives and breathes the next fight just like a proper “Sarkaz” and therefore she is Sarkaz.
Players are obviously missing a shitton of information on previous Sarkaz rulers but I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to assume that Sarkaz kings were all badass warrior kings. Theresis and Theresa have legends about fighting together for crying out loud. And I’ll tackle how those two went from working together to the point where their race had legends about them to trying to kill each other. However, I want to tackle another aspect of Sarkaz culture specifically the part where a persons weapons acts as their identity. I’m pretty sure that Amiya took up Theresa’s sword which for all intents and purposes means she’s the new Demon King. In fact, I bet that it’s the Sarkaz Kings who instituted the weapon/identity inheritance cultural stick. We know Sarkaz get into a lot of of conflicts so, the early Sarkaz Kings could’ve streamlined their court positions by attaching them to a weapon. Would that create a political court where everybody was stabbing each other to get the others weapons? Yes, but it would also create a political and physical environment where whoever held the weapon ideally had the strength to keep it, and would require a relationship with the king to continue keep a hold of that weapon. But back to Amiya
Now as for why Kal’stit and Amiya are keeping the fact Amiya’s technically the new Demon King. Theresis would presumably nail Amiya on a cross if he found out Theresa actually designated a heir. And Amiya doesn’t want to become the King of the bloodthirsty Sarkaz. I think it’s more Theresis being an issue but given the importance of weapon inheritance, I wonder if Amiya isn’t even the first non-Sarkaz King. Either way, I think Amiya has a decent bid for the throne, which means our smol rabbit daughter is gonna be The Demon King. She just needs to be battle tested to be acceptable in the eyes of other Sarkaz.

A Faustian Bargain
Faust I
The Peterhelm Theatre was quaint. That was the best word for it. There were around a hundred seats in the theater, some clearly meant for the enjoyment of nobility or high-ranking parents given the fine leather the chairs were fashioned with. The stage itself wasn't even that large, only able to hold up to twenty people.
It was never meant to hold the collective student body of Chernobog, and it couldn't. It hadn't stopped Mephisto from squeezing as many people as he could for his first presentation, and it hadn't prevented him from doing it for the second time. Luckily his friend hadn't asked for any oil, but Faust was unable to relax. A sentiment shared with every other student sitting in the seats and the Reunion members standing guard at the doors and on the second floor.
A floodlight turned on and a single person was revealed on the stage.
"I'd like to thank you all for coming once again." Mephisto started, smiling as his green eyes raked across the room. He put his palm on his chest. "As a lover of democracy, it brings warmth to my heart that you all were able to so quickly elect a representative to bring your interests to me."
Because you threatened to flay them alive if they didn't, Mephisto. Faust thought but kept his silence from where he was hidden to Mephisto's left. His men had reported multiple incidents where the meeting room had nearly come to blows only for one of Mephisto's Possessed to pass by. It's thundering footsteps and pained howls enough to cow the children into submission.
Faust was taken from his thoughts as Mephisto snapped his fingers. "Ursine ladies and gentlemen, give it up for your Student Council, President Natalya Andreyevna Rostova."
Another stage light was turned on, revealing what had to be a seventeen-year-old Ursus Girl. She was dressed in a White Peterheim School uniform; she bowed to the student body. The only sign of fear was her trembling fingers.
"I said, clap!" Mephisto shouted, saccharine voice becoming venomous.
Thunderous applause broke out as each student tried to outdo the other. Faust still kept an eye on the students whose clapping was more restrained. The ones who could think were always the most dangerous.
Natalya, to her credit, kept her fake smile and bowed. The clapping came to a sudden halt as Mephisto thumped the stage with his staff and inclined his head towards the new Student President.
"Everyone, thank you for electing me as your student council president. I know these are trying times." She began with one of the biggest understatements Faust had ever heard. "But it is my belief that the Ursus student spirit is resilient and through cooperation with the Reunion Movement that we will come out of this...whirlwind of events stronger than ever. However, to do so any troubles you feel with our new teachers must be brought to me." She finished bowing once again and ceding the floor back to Eno.
Mephisto bobbed his head twice towards the poor girl, clearly pleased at her mediocre acting skills, and took back control. "Thank you for your kind words, Ms. Rostova." He began to inspect his fingernails, displaying the black veins on his hands to the whole student body. "However, there is a problem."
Natalya's smile was frozen in place, and Faust could feel the tension in the room rocket back up. He raised his crossbow up just in case.
"You don't have any cabinet members."
What?
Mephisto shrugged, "It's important to elect a leader, but no one man or woman is an island, but given recent events, I understand and forgive your mistake. In fact, To ease your burden a little. I've already chosen most of your cabinet. Come on out, girls."
Faust watched as four girls walked from the back of the stage to the front. He'd assumed Mephisto wanted to make examples of them, but clearly, he had been mistaken. Two of them had been roughed up while the blue-haired one and yellow-haired one were practically curling in on themselves at the situation they had found themselves in.
"I'd like to introduce your new Student Body General Zima and Student Body Lieutenant Leto," Mephisto said. He gestured to a brown-haired girl with red highlights in her hair and a girl wearing a uniform with yellow highlights. The Former glared at Mephisto, both her eyes bruised, and Faust resigned himself to killing her. The latter waved with her one good hand, the other kept in a makeshift cast.
Mephisto began to walk around the four girls. "These two already have quite the reputation and will be dedicated to ensuring Ms. Rostova's instructions will keep order. In fact, they'll be in charge of the fight clubs which I've heard are all the rage these days. And I do so hope they do a good job. Because if they don't, my big friends will have to take matters into their own hands, and while I'm sure they'll try their Originium ridden hearts out, they aren't the most delicate."
The whole student body couldn't nod fast enough.
Mephisto came to a stop behind the yellow-haired girl. She practically leapt out of her skin when Mephisto's hand landed on her shoulder. "Well, don't be shy. I'd like the new Student Council Head Chef to introduce herself."
"Hello everybody" The girl meekly began.
"Louder," Mephisto ordered.
"Hello everyone, my name is Lada. I'm a long time member of the Ursus Youth Scout, and I'm going to be in charge of making sure everybody remains well-fed here," The girl shouted, with the fakest cheerful voice. Everybody saw her trembling.
"I'm sure you'll give it your all." Mephisto's piercing green eyes flicked to his side, and Faust flashed a signal to his men.
Two bodies with bags over their heads fell from the ceiling before snapping taut as the ropes around their necks caused them to swing from side to side.
Faust heard a few boys and girls panic, but the sounds of Crossbows being cocked and the growls of Possessed made them quiet down quickly. Faust's nose flared as he picked up the smell of urine. It was the newly appointed head chef.
Mephisto's smile was all teeth as he began to speak. "These two cooks were a disgrace to your school and tried to steal food from you. Since it was their first offense, they had the pleasure of dying quickly. Any other repeat offenders won't have such a luxury. And I'm sure little Lada over here is going to try her best to ensure you all stay fed.
"I will, I promise, I promise." The girl screamed tears in her eyes.
"Good" Mephisto muttered, rolling his eyes before he moved over to the last girl in line. She was the youngest and had a hair full of blue hair. She clutched a large book to her chest. Faust's traitorous eyes briefly replaced her with a young, innocent boy with kind green eyes, and he shook his head to banish the illusion.
"Now young Anna has a vital job. In fact, I've hadn't even told her what it is."
She was insurance. Zima had frozen in place, the murderous rage in her eyes being replaced by fear as soon as Mephisto walked over to the blue haired girl.
Mephisto leaned forward like he was eager to share a secret. "She's going to be my personal assistant. School administration is such a hard job, and my talents make me more medically inclined." He turned to the newly appointed student council. "Ms. Rostova, you stay up here. All you other good girls can take your seats at the front."
Once they were seated, he clapped his hands, the sound breaking the sudden quiet that had fallen over the room. "I know that this student council is unorthodox, but it's simply a fact we live in unorthodox times."
Most of the positions were clearly made up, and Reunion was ransacking the city. Yes, Mephisto, that does count as unorthodox. Faust thought but once again kept to himself.
The theatre shook as two Possessed brought forward a chalkboard of all things. It was covered with sections of time "It might surprise you to know this, but one of our dear leaders in Reunion cares deeply about the educational welfare of the Ursus student body."
Patriot definitely hadn't had this in mind when Mephisto had gotten control of making sure the students were isolated. Faust was sure of that, but it could be worse. He glanced at just the two dead bodies still swinging from the rafters. So much worse.
Mephisto gestured with his staff against the chalkboard. "I'll leave it to Ms. Rostova to elaborate."
"Everyone, there will be three meals a day. All students will be scheduled into blocks that they will stay with. Lessons in Math, Arts, and Science will still be taught by the remaining faculty. However, a large portion of the day will be dedicated to physical exercise taught by Mr. Faust."
They what? Fausts couldn't stop his mouth from falling open. The girl was looking around the room, her confusion minimal to his. What was Mephisto doing?
Mephisto sighed before walking over to where Faust was hidden under the illusion and clapped him on the shoulder.
"You'll have to forgive my friend. He's very shy." His best friend said smiling warmly at Faust.
Faust dropped the illusion. He lowered his chin so that his face was hidden by his black sweater and raised his crossbow slightly. His friend elbowed his side, and Faust glared at him before sighing. "I will ensure all of you will be in the best physical shape possible."
"Wonderful, Mr. Faust; I'm thankful we are in your care," Rostova said. And Faust resisted the urge to spit at her blatant flattery.
Mephisto took the praise in stride, rewarding the girl with a smile that lacked his usual malice. "Yes, Faust is...Faust is my best friend. I would have died many times over if it weren't for his wisdom and protection. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he's the most important in the world to me...Other than big sis Talulah of course." He tacked on shocking Faust.
"And it's because of that, that if I hear one word of any of you skipping his classes. I'll skip stripping you of your meals and go straight for flaying you alive or making you my Possessed."
Mephisto's green eyes landed on Rostova, whose skin was almost as pale as her hair. "Am I clear?"
"Yes, Dean Mephisto."
"Ha," Mephisto barked in laughter. "I'll leave it to the council to inform the rest of the student body of our policies going forward. Faust and I are going to set up your new lesson plans."
He turned on his heel and left. Faust hands flew through signals that ordered his men to keep him updated on the theatre situation and followed his friend out of the room.
They walked through the schools winding hallways passing by classrooms packed with students before arriving at an office. The placard read "Nurse's office" his friend held open the door for Faust to enter, locked the door behind him, shut the blinds, hopped on the bed, and patted a spot for Faust to sit by him.
The second Faust joined Mephisto, the white-haired Ancient sagged onto Faust's shoulder. He froze at the sudden contact. Mephisto had always been fond of doing this when they were younger, but ever since their discussion about Talulah, these moments had become fewer and fewer.
"Go ahead, ask your questions."
"How am I supposed to teach a bunch of kids?"
"Just teach them what the Flag Waver taught us."
Faust stared at his friend. "You want me to teach a bunch of children, guerilla tactics." Faust was proud of the way he kept his tone neutral. It was a bad idea- no a terrible idea, but Mephisto hadn't been this open or restrained in weeks. In fact?
"What happened, Eno" Sasha asked his best friend.
Eno stiffened, "What do you mean?"
"You're hardly sleeping, and when you do, you wake up screaming. And...I didn't think this was how you were going to run this lockdown."
"You thought I was going to burn their food and leave them to fend for themselves. Let them experience an ounce of our childhood."
Fausts silence was answer enough.
"It's tempting," Eno admitted. "But we need the students."
Faust ran his fingers through Eno's hair. "Why?"
"Sasha, Talulah's different." Faust froze. The words were so quiet, but they thundered in Fausts' ears all the same. "I'm a monster and a coward. But I think I'm ready to choose."
Sasha continued to stare down at Eno, unwilling to even breathe. Was he dreaming? Was this happening?
Eno looked up at Sasha, and Sasha couldn't even breathe at the fear within those eyes.
"Sasha, would you leave Reunion with me?"
It was treasonous, stupid, and a thousand visions flashed through Sasha's mind of them dying horribly.
But...But they had promised each other to suffer through life at each other's side, and for the first time in a long while, it didn't hurt to follow that promise.

This is a stunning erasure of Auntie Ptilopsis, Big Sister Magallan, and Little Sister Mayer.
Rhodes Island has a lot of weird family units. Like. It’s just this mobile pharmaceutical company filled to the brim with people that can take on armies on their own and they all just drifted together into all sorts of groups that you can only really describe as family. Like:
- Single Dad Executer and his daughter Vermeil.
- Gummy and her two moms Zima and Istina (+fun aunts Beehunter and Leto+sad aunt Rosa)
- Ifrit and her two moms Saria and Silence (who are going through a rough patch)
- Everyone knows Reserve Team A6 is just a straight up sitcom family with combat training. Orchid the tired mom, Midnight the suave dad, Spot the responsible but grumpy eldest son, Catapult the troublemaker, and the baby Popukar.
- Nearl and Shinning who are Perfectly Professional at work but the amount of gossip about what they get up to in their off hours is absurd. “Personally handling Nearl’s medical care” indeed.
- Every new recruit has called Dobermann “mom” at least once, it’s a right of passage.
- Hoshiguma and Ch’en have been married for five years and managed to keep it a secret from everyone at Lungmen but somehow they get gifts from everyone at Rhodes when their anniversary rolls around even though they told absolutely no one. “It was kinda obvious.” The Doctor says, Kal’stit nodding behind him.
- And of course everyone knows Kal’stit has more or less adopted Amiya and Red, they just know better then to say it to her face. (Little do they know that she actually officially adopts everyone under 17 that joins Rhodes Island, the only one who had the guts to ask her was the doctor before he lost his memory. “Makes it easier to keep track of everyone.” That was her answer, he knew it was a load of bull, but he knew better then to poke that hornet’s nest)

Arknights Promotion: A Ribbon or Something More
Every gacha game has a mechanic where the player can make their characters stronger and unlock skills. Fate Grand Order has Ascension. Arknights has Promotion. Now on the surface both mechanics are purely gameplay mechanics to extend playtime. However, Ascension in the Nasuverse is an actual thing. It’s described as the Servants Saint Graphs (bodies) becoming more attuned to their Master’s magical energy, and some Servants undergo Ascension in their interludes.
Now their is a world of difference between Servants and Operators. The former are Magic Ghosts that feed off their Master’s mana. It’s not that hard a sell to believe that they can be upgraded through that connection and magical reagents. However, Operators are a harder sell. They are flesh and blood people in a organization with ranks. It’s really easy to see Promotion as just that. They get a higher rank within Rhodes Island. And some Operators Promotion lines indicate a promotion is just a rank up. Here’s Ch’en’s first Promotion line.
“ Another promotion? I’m used to it by now.”
Simple enough right? Then I read Nearl and Skadi’s promotion lines
Nearl:  Thank you, Doctor. These new powers shall bring relief to those who suffer. This I shall engrave upon my heart.
Skadi:  So this is the promotion Rhodes Island folks are always going on about? Not bad. Feels like I’ve actually become stronger, maybe.
They make it sound like they’ve unlocked new abilities that will help them. And Skadi’s voice line confirms that Promotion is an actual thing in universe and it’s probably more than just a rank up within Rhodes Island if other operators constantly talk about it. Promotion can’t just be a simple rank up. Then there’s the case that Operators treat Promotion 2 like it’s something way more than just obtaining a higher position within Rhodes Island.
Exusiai: Leader… No, savior, I pledge to this gun in my hand to protect you until the very end of this world.
That isn’t Exusiai’s max trust line, that’s what she says when she undergoes her second Promotion.  Therefore I posit that an Operator being promoted within Rhodes Island isn’t just a rank up within the organization. It’s a complete upgrade to the Operator’s equipment or a signifies that they’ve unlocked new abilities or in the case of some operators that they’re willing to use their full potential for Rhodes Island.
What does everybody else think? Am I reading too much into what’s a simple gameplay mecahnic? Or am I onto something? What are your thoughts on Promotion within Arknights
