On This Day (February 26)...A Light Into the Future
One year ago today, during the early hours of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian artist John Object released his fourth album as his hometown of Kyiv was bombed.

Tour Guide: Deep Purple Tours as Roundabout
A guide to Deep Purple's first-ever tour, a debut shrouded in mystery.
In my “tour guide” series, I’ll be setting up guides to certain tours by certain bands. This is an aspect of a project I have been undertaking in some form or other since the summer of 2017, with some collaboration. I hope it’s useful to fellow music historians and aficionados!  Deep Purple’s first-ever tour was something of an aberration as far as debut tours go. The band toured outside its…

Hi, everyone! You might have seen my work around here. If you don’t know, I’m Alle, and I run a website about music. Most of it relates to classic rock, but I’m branching out as time goes on and writing about more things I’m interested in. I have big plans to update this site, including writing more about indie music and commissioning translations to improve accessibility.
Unfortunately, I’m going to run out of money this July. That’s also when I need to renew my site’s domain, hosting plan and redirect link. In total, I’ll need to pay $225, which I just…don’t have right now.
I’m putting up my fundraiser here in the hopes that I can get some help. If you can donate $3 or more, that would help out so much. Every bit counts.
If you don’t have $3 or so to donate, please signal boost this post to get as much reach as possible. Thank you all! 💖

On This Day (March 28)...Kharkiv, Meet Mark VIII!
Twenty years ago, Deep Purple performed at the Opera House in Kharkiv, Ukraine. You might've heard about the opera house recently, and not in a musical context. Not gonna lie, researching for this one made me emotional.
…Memorable for Ian Gillan donning a tutu he found in a dressing room cupboard and proclaiming himself “Deep Purple in Frock”, for the gear arriving at 7pm and somehow the show starting at 8pm, for an old apparatchik single-handedly trying to make the young audience sit back down during the set with such zeal that he had a seizure, and next day on the way back to the airport my asking about a…
