My main source of figuring out what’s been made available in ebook format on platforms other than Amazon has quietly disappeared so here’s some ebook news because I’m feeling motivated!
Four Way Books has made a number of their newest releases (& re-releases) available on Kindle & Kobo (they’re cheaper on Kobo, btw). Basically the latest by John Murillo, Tommye Blount, and Cynthia Cruz.
Invasive species by Marwa Helal is now available on Kobo but not on Kindle.
Faylita Hicks’ HoodWitch now available on Kobo & on Kindle (cheaper on Kobo, btw). A lot of other Acre Books were also made available on Kobo & Kindle.
Sarabande Books finally released the ebooks they’ve been holding onto for the past couple years on Kindle, Kobo, Scribd, and, to a lesser extent, Hoopla (if your library has that).
Third Man Books has some new ebooks on Kobo & Kindle.
& the Indigenous Literatures from Micronesia anthology is available on Google Play.

Free and Inexpensive Reads During Quarantine - April 24, 2020
My state isn’t reopening for a while but other states have or are planning to so not too many links this time.
Third Man Books - PDFs of their OOP chapbooks for $5
Seagull Books - this week’s new selection of free PDFs of their books
Scrambler Digital - Editorial Negra, If a Leaf Falls Press, and Scrambler Books have made their books PWYC
Project Muse - some publishers have made digital versions of their books free to read for everyone (I’d honestly thought it was just for university students), most of them until June 30th. University of Arizona Press, University of Nebraska Press, and University of Georgia Press, Wayne State University Press, and Princeton University Press are standouts. & The Ohio State University Press has a poetry collection that’s been on my TBR for ages.

Poetry, Etc. Digital & Audiobook Finds (Some Free)
Poetry collections, etc. in digital and audio formats that may be of interest (or not). Some that are not on Amazon and most other popular retailers in that format or at all. Oh, and apparently Pizarnik‘s book is out-of-print so now available in PDF for free download.
Ebooks
The Most Foreign Country by Alejandra Pizarnik, tr. Yvette Siegert (Free) (PDF) (Ugly Duckling Presse)
First published in 1955 and now translated for the first time into English, The Most Foreign Country is Alejandra Pizarnik’s debut collection. Here, the nineteen-year-old poet begins to explore the themes that will shape and define her vision: the solitude of the poetic self, the longing for artistic depth, and the tenuous nearness of death. By turns probing and playful, bold and difficult, Pizarnik’s earliest poems teem with an exuberant desire “to grab hold of everything”  and to create a language that tests the limits of origin, paradox, and death.
My Woman Card is anti-Native & Other Two-Spirit Truths by Xemiyulu Manibusan Tapepechul ($10) (PDF) (Self-Published)
2019 Lambda Literary Award Finalist for Bisexual Poetry
My Woman Card is anti-Native & Other Two-Spirit Truths is a book of free verse poems, haikus and sonnets inspired by a conversation with the Legendary Venus Selenite, by the author’s love for classical theatre, by her connection to her community, and by her experiences navigating eurocentrism in medicine & social life. Originally published on CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (November 20, 2018)
No Archive Will Restore You by Julietta Singh ($5+) (Pay-What-You-Can) (PDF) (Punctum Books / 3Ecologies Books Imprint)
2019 Lambda Literary Award Finalist for Bisexual Nonfiction
At once memoir, theory, poetic prose, and fragment, No Archive Will Restore You is a feverish meditation on the body. Departing from Antonio Gramsci’s summons to compile an inventory of the historical traces left in each of us, Singh engages with both the impossibility and urgent necessity of crafting an archive of the body. Through reveries on the enduring legacies of pain, desire, sexuality, race, and identity, she asks us to sense and feel what we have been trained to disavow, to re-member the body as more than itself.
We Take Me Apart by Molly Gaudry ($3.99) (PDF) (Ampersand Books)
2nd finalist for the 2011 Asian American Literary Award for Poetry Shortlisted for the 2011 PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award for Poetry Nominated for the McLaughlin-Esstman-Stearns First Novel Prize
There is no more perfect place to be than in Molly Gaudry s tender, dirt-floored novella, We Take Me Apart. Oh cabbage leaves, oh roses, oh orange-slice childhood grins: this book broke my heart. Its sad memory-tropes come from fairy tales & childhood books. With language, Gaudry is as loving & careful as one is with a matchbook … when wishing to set the whole word on fire. (Kate Bernheimer)
Hemming the Water by Yona Harvey ($5.99) (PDF) (Four Way Books)
…There is no rest in this extraordinary debut book by Yona Harvey. It is a book in which the devastation is still very much alive. It is not a personal story. As in any great disaster, the privilege of uniqueness is taken away. We are taken to dizzying uncertainties, a place between what’s real and what isn’t, what’s intimate and what’s strange, between evil and good. How to make a form when there is no form? Nothing you can count on? Hers is not an easy art—nor is it harmless. She sets out to accomplish an impossible task, Hemming the Water. Music is the only thing she can turn to, and poetry is the exquisite stitch that turns the forces against us to our advantage. Read this book again (there is not one predictable line!) to appreciate even more its fierce elegance, and the joy of its triumph. (Toi Derricotte)
Lavando La Dirty Laundry by Natalia Treviño ($5.99) (PDF) (Mongrel Empire Press)
This writer warns us she is a woman like a “Mexican electric fence.” And yet between the sheets or between the murmur of the rolling pin, we are trusted to overhear confidences between intimates. It is on the white sheets of this book that a woman’s most private confessions are transformed from dirty laundry to poetry luminescent as linen on the line. I truly feel gratitude for being allowed to read such private dialogues. It is a book that is a remove from other Texas writers in its capacity to encompass the globe, as Chicana poetry should in the new millennium. I feel very privileged to be allowed to give this book its blessing. (Sandra Cisneros)
Sublime: Lost Words by Juliane Okot Bitek (Free) (PDF) (The Elephants)
Juliane Okot Bitek has never stopped exploring the power of narrative, focusing her essays, poetry and nonfiction work on political and social issues. She is a Liu Scholar at the University of British Columbia’s Liu Institute. Her first collection, 100 Days, was published last year by the University of Alberta Press and nominated for several awards.
How Narrow My Escapes by Lillian-Yvonne Bertram ($5) (PDF) (New Michigan Press)
Lillian-Yvonne Bertram is the author of the forthcoming book Travesty Generator (Noemi Press), and previous books Personal Science (Tupelo Press, 2017), a slice from the cake made of air (Red Hen Press, 2016), and But a Storm is Blowing From Paradise (Red Hen Press, 2012)
Removing Skin by Trevino L. Brings Plenty (Free) (ePub/mobi) (Self-published)
Embracing an identity of twenty-first century west coast urban squalor, Trevino Brings Plenty creates a madly cruising momentum barreling down the page instantly akin to narrowing proximities within a panorama of cityscapes, apartments and dives. The resulting irresistible fervor brings a flavor of first to a long-awaited banter. Hold on; this one is fully loose. (Allison Adelle Hedge Coke)
The Bodies of Birds by Melanie Rae Thon ($5) (PDF) (New Michigan Press)
Resurrected and restored through the bodies of multitudes, a young woman who becomes an organ donor after a car accident radiates unmitigated love as she comes to know the recipients of her heart and kidneys—lungs, bowel, vertebrae, corneas … Twenty-seven years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, black storks glide over the Zone of Alienation. Apple trees bloom; lilacs flower—radioactive wolves thrive; bees make glowing honey …  A prisoner in California, a man who killed a woman a hundred times, who stabbed face and throat, heart and belly, now washes another man in the shower, shaves his face, changes his diapers, protects and serves a murderer like himself, riddled by dementia …
Prayers, love songs, laments, confessions—these three provocative immersions through and beyond the body explore the revelatory expansiveness of consciousness and compassion; the persistence of love; the trauma of intimate violence and environmental devastation; unexpected grace; and the remarkable resilience of the marvelously diverse more-than-human world.
Night Vision by Claire Wahmanholm ($5) (PDF) (New Michigan Press)
In Claire Wahmanholm’s Night Vision, we are made to witness narrative’s inevitable unravelling. By placing hybrid prose in conversation with skillful erasures, Wahmanholm creates a subtle and striking commentary on the nature of language and story. She reminds us of the infinite ways that voice resists containment by history, convention, and our expectations as readers. In each lyric fragment, each fracturing of the source text, we are shown all that has been buried in the trappings of prose. This is a gorgeously subversive chapbook, a work that reflects powerfully on the circumstances of its own making. (Kristina Marie Darling)
Top Surgery by Oliver Baez Bendorf ($5) (PDF) (Self-published)
A PDF for a full-color art book / illustrated zine that Oliver Baez Bendorf made in the two months following top surgery (a double mastectomy with chest reconstruction) as part of his gender transition. His girlfriend says, “It’s an art object, a guide and a poetry comic all in one. Each page is brilliant a standalone art piece, an experience. It’s luscious fragments and saturated color.” She might be biased but he think you will like it. The book touches on herbal remedies, being “sure enough,” pre- and post-surgery feels, caring for your caregivers, ways to support someone having top surgery, candied ginger, and more, through collage, watercolor, and writing.
On Hell by Johanna Hedva ($5+) (PDF) (Sator Press)
On Hell transcribes a body broken by American empire, that of ex-con Rafael Luis Estrada Requena, hacking itself away from contemporary society. Johanna Hedva, author of Sick Woman Theory, takes the ferocious compulsion to escape (from capitalism, from the limits of the body-machine, from Earth) and channels it into an evisceration of oppression and authority. Equal parts tender and brutal, romantic and furious, On Hell is a novel about myths that trick and resist totalitarianism.
Stag: A Poem by Emily O’Neill ($7) (PDF) (Ladybox Books)
Originally only available as part of a limited chapbook subscription box curated by Ladybox Books, Stag is a chapbook-length poem about poker, porn, manipulation, addiction, & escaping abuse.
