deep love
you, fleshed out on the shores seas, viewing
point of the arboretum.
you, cronenberg and the lot of you.
you, sickening modernity asbestos and stink.
you, grey and hounded shield.
you, cared for silk.
you, facelift and polyester.
you, sunken edge and toronto tidal.
you, unmanned and uncared for.
impulsive quick famined and rabid record.
shifted, parodied, pastiche. unwilling citizen.
you, critical mass.

wandering streets the building walled with ancient limestone corner pattiserie luxury on-demand and neon pharmacies. the hills don't go up far enough too quick, the temptation not there to climb. descending from up till dawn, with your piece by peace. ocean breeze screaches fast-approaching in every direction. surf-n-turf smell and electron cardboard, streets cleaned up for this special occassion, cigarette buds still nestled between the linings of cement and gravel. every peasant bar leaves something more to be desired, alcoholic infusions, people not recognized, daylight savings.

"All I have is a voice / To undo the folded lie, / The romantic lie in the brain / Of the sensual man-in-the-street / And the lie of Authority / Whose buildings grope the sky: / There is no such thing as the State / And no one exists alone; / Hunger allows no choice / To the citizen of the police; / We must love one another or die."
W.H. Auden, September 1, 1939 (1939)
