You know sometimes I wonder if the senior dog sanctuary tumblr was someone honestly just intending to repost the facebook posts onto tumblr and nothing else that accidentally posted to the wrong blog one day and decided dissapearing was the only course of action from there.

I don't know who needs to hear this right now, but my mom's college friend is sitting at our kitchen table eating a frozen pizza while we remove tracking apps from her phone. We knew good and well what was going to happen when she married this guy. We told her not to do it. Her son told her not to do it. She did it anyways.
This is the first we've heard from her in nine months, and it's bad.
She has spend the last nine months feeling too embarrassed to ask for help as things got worse and worse. Everything we told her would happen happened, and she knew she should've listened.
What she didn't know is that we have been patiently waiting for the moment she would let us help. We were never mad at her for not listening and we were never going to shame her for getting into this position.
If you're hesitanting to ask for help because you feel embarrassed, this is your sign to stop it and ask for help. They tried to warn you because they love you and want the best for you! That has not changed and they are probably very worried about you!

Something I kept waiting for her to say is the second half of "Why?"
They don't just not care that women will die, they WANT women to die. They WANT ten year olds to make the news. They WANT miscarriage victims to rot in prison. They WANT women to die from being poisoned by dead bodies in their uterus.
Not just because they want women to believe pregnancy is the most important thing, but because they want women SCARED!
Look at what happened to them! That could happen to you if you don't make the right choices! Obey and submit to the men so they don't do that do you. Do what you're told. Because that's what happens to the loud women. The disobedient women. The unmarried women. The unprotected women.
The anti-abortion crowd love those horror stories! They want them to keep coming! Every dead little girl is a threat to turn on their own daughters. Obey, or I won't protect you from that! Sit down, shut up, and submit to me or you'll die a violent death.

I always tell people they have to watch 03 to at least the 5th laboratory arc. That is where the two stories divulge, but they are the same story until then. The difference is that 03 was taking its time and Brotherhood wanted to spedrun the rerun.
You don't have to ever finish 03, but you do have to watch to the fifth laboratory. Once Ed defeats the slasher brothers you can drop it, but not before. It's required viewing to fully enjoy Brootherhood.
Okay but the weirdest thing about the whole "Brotherhood is better you should skip 03" discourse that's become commonplace now, it sort of forgets the world Brotherhood came out in and why you should watch the original Fullmetal Alchemist. When Brotherhood came out, the original Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the most beloved and most watched animes of all time. Brotherhood assumes you the audience have already seen it because of course you have, everyone has seen it, so it skips important information and speeds the story up because it doesn't want to bore you with things you already know. Have you ever wondered "hey why does the first episode of Brotherhood kind of suck, and why am I being introduced to like 50 new characters, and why are they acting like I know what the hell an alchemist is?" It's because Brotherhood thinks you've seen 03.
The first 7 or so episodes of Brotherhood constitute dozens of chapters in the manga, and the first 25 or so episodes of the original Fullmetal Alchemist. The Nina Tucker episode in Brotherhood, in FMA 03 takes up nearly three episodes. Yoki gets a backstory in 03 and it's genuinely one of the best episodes and taken directly from the manga and Brotherhood glosses over it because: duh, you've already seen it. And so if you skip the original you miss out on dozens of really great character building episodes like Ed and Al meeting Hughes for the first time and getting to spend a whole episode helping him free a train from terrorists, or Ed and Roy having a duel that expands on the relationship they have, or episodes where the brothers just help out random people in towns before the major story gets going.
The original also paces itself quite a bit better than Brotherhood and is more in line with the mangas storytelling. In the manga we don't find out about The Gate until nearly two dozen chapters in, and the same goes for the original anime. Like, that's a twist reveal in those stories, and it's weird that the most watched series is the one where they tell you all about The Gate in the first two episodes because they assume you've already seen the original show.
What's more, people don't know that Hiromu Arakawa helped write for the anime while she was still in the middle of writing the manga, and as a result was inspired to write scenes in Brotherhood that the anime did first. That scene of Edward getting impaled by a falling beam? Directly inspired by a similar scene in the original anime. There's a lot of little instances of that and they're great when you can recognize parallels and things in Brotherhood that are direct references to the original anime, but people don't notice any of that anymore. Because the original anime is just an automatic skip these days, and it's a bummer because people don't realize what a giant it was back before Brotherhood was released. They treat it as *bad,* not realizing it was one of the most beloved anime of its time and the problems people take issue with have a lot more to do with personal taste than any kind of actual flaw in the writing. Brotherhood was never meant to dethrone it, and the original anime was always supposed to be part of the viewing experience which is why those first few episodes of Brotherhood are so fast paced. So like, please stop telling people Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 is a skip, or it's bad, or you don't need it because Brotherhood is better. Regardless if you think Brotherhood is better or not, the original wrote Brotherhood's check. It was huge, it was beloved, and Brotherhood is *banking* on the knowledge you've seen all of it and loved it. And trust me when I say there is so much to love about the original series. It's still my favorite branch of the FMA franchise, and it's worth your time, I promise you.

You guys know what lung cancer used to be called?
Baker's lung.
Because bakers often got lung cancer from inhaling flour. We now coat our flour to reduce how airborne and breathable it is, so being a baker isn't as much of a cancer risk as it was.
But the take away is flour can be a carcinogen if you breath in too much of it. Just because cigarettes are a very effective means of getting cancer, doesn't mean other things are safe.
Vapes can give you cancer. Weed can give you cancer. Campfires can give you cancer. They aren't a guarantee, but if you are breathing any kind of particles on a daily basis, you are at risk.
guys i need you to realize that smoking ANYTHING will cause damage to your lungs. inhaling smoke is just inherently bad for you im sorry.

If you censor your words, they cannot be censored by anyone else. Saying things like "unalive" or "seggs" was a deliberate attempt to avoid being censored by outside parties. You self censor to avoid getting caught.
It is not, nor has it ever been, about protecting your audience from a word. If someone is triggered by the words "pet play". The words "pet p!ay" aren't any different to them. It's only different to a filter that has a set list of "no" words.
AO3 has a firm anti-censonship policy. They are not policing what you write and they will never have advertisers to cater to. You do not need to dodge their censors. All you are doing is dodging readers' personal filters.
It's: "contains peanuts" Not: "contains p34n#t$". You would only put "p34n#t$" if someone was trying to stop you from making things with peanuts in it and removing anything with the word "peanut" on it.
Once more:
Self censoring is done to avoid censorship, not to protect your audience!
I just saw a story on AO3 tagged "pet p!ay"
TIK TOK MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE IT DESTROYS LANGUAGE

Absolutely finances are over complicated and the information on how they work is gatekept, but I'll bolt cut a hole in the fence for some of you.
A credit score isn't about being good for the money. It's about how stable you are with the debt.
Making multiple payments on time establishes the ability to stick to a budget. Paying it off in one big chunk makes you look like you coax from one large pay out to the next. When giving a loan, it's more comfortable giving it to someone you know will make a long term plan to pay you back than it is to the person who is relying on a large sum of money to come in and might or might not have a plan B if that falls through. (And missing deadlines of course makes you look like you aren't good for the money in the first place.)
In practice, this ends up punishing people for only spending money they have ready to go. Which is a bug-turned-feature of the system.
This is why people have credit cards they use for gas or groceries exclusively. It creates a small manageable bill for you to pay on time every month. You're creating a paper trail to prove how reliable you are with money. This is what people mean when they say "good debt". This is what is deliberately kept from people that don't have money.

Keep a towel in your room.
If you spill something on carpet, grab the towel IMMEDIATELY and lay it on top of the wet stain. Then stand on the towel and take tiny steps. Knead it with your full weight for a few minutes. If done properly, there will be no trace of it in the carpet and the towel can be thrown in with the laundry. (I don't even want to know exactly how much this saved me from.)
If you can't get to the bathroom for awhile because you're waiting out a bad mood, you can pee in the towel and take it to the laundry when it's safe.
In a pinch, the towel is an extra blanket you don't need to leave your room to get.
Next. Have a quick hiding place. This is not where you keep anything. It's just a space you can quickly hide things at a moments notice. There was a small space between my dresser and bed that my bed hid from view of the door. If I heard someone coming, I could throw something on the ground there and have my hands empty when they came in. You know where your abuser normally stands. Stand there and make sure you can't see your chosen spot.
Finally, use your prep time. If you get good at noticing your abusers tells of being in That Mood, you can have up to five minutes to change clothes, move things to better hiding places, and even find something useful to "just so happen" to have in you hand when they come. (I would grab a comfort object. It helped me cope, and he wasn't as mean when I looked childish.)
hey so protip if you have abusive parents and need to get around the house as quietly as possible, stay close to furniture and other heavy stuff because the floor is settled there and it’s less likely to creak

Helpful tip: If you're stuck on a "one more episode" binge and you need to go to sleep, here's a foolproof way to get out of it.
Stop watching in the middle of the episode.
The ending is designed to make you desperate to know what happens next. The ending will make you want to click the next episode. The middle? Not so much. The stakes are mid. You're not going to be up all night thinking about whatever they ended it on. It's easy to break away, while still leaving you excited to pick it back up tomorrow.
Pick a quiet moment when a satisfying scene ends, and put it down. Most streaming platforms save your place, so there's nothing making you watch until the end.

And in case it wasn't clear
THIS ABSOLUTELY INCLUDES HOW YOU TALK TO YOURSELF!!!
If you are sitting there beating yourself up over not doing something, stop it. You're making the problem worse. That is why you can't seem to get yourself to Do The Thing no matter how shitty you feel! You are killing any motivation you produce before you can use it!
Everything is fixable to some extent. At very least, it's improvable. It doesn't matter if you're behind. It doesn't matter if it got bad. It doesn't matter if these are consequences of your own actions. It doesn't matter.
I believe in you to make one thing better. Do one thing better. You do not have to feel bad to make yourself better. In fact, the making yourself feel bad was stopping you.
I'm proud of you for fighting it and trying to feel ok. Even if you only managed a few seconds!
Not that anybody asked, but I think it's important to understand how shame and guilt actually work before you try to use it for good.
It's a necessary emotion. There are reasons we have it. It makes everything so. much. worse. when you use it wrong.
Shame and guilt are DE-motivators. They are meant to stop behavior, not promote it. You cannot, ever, in any meaningful way, guilt someone into doing good. You can only shame them into not doing bad.
Let's say you're a parent and your kid is having issues.
Swearing in class? Shame could work. You want them to stop it. Keep it in proportion*, and it might help. *(KEEP IT IN PROPORTION!!!)
Not doing their homework? NO! STOP! NO NOT DO THAT! EVER! EVER! EVER! You want them to start to do their homework. Shaming them will have to opposite effect! You have demotivated them! They will double down on NOT doing it. Not because they are being oppositional, but because that's what shame does!
You can't guilt people into building better habits, being more successful, or getting more involved. That requires encouragement. You need to motivate for that stuff!
If you want it in a simple phrase:
You can shame someone out of being a bad person, but you can't shame them into being a good person.
