Excerpt: "I'm fine, thanks for asking. Just the usual madness that comes with the job," Merlin lied easily. "I will check the perimeters to ensure nobody is lurking out there. I don't trust the surveillance team.  It’s not the first time they’ve turned a blind eye to something, so better be safe than sorry.  I promise you, it’s just a routine thing and has nothin’ to do with the phone call."

Merlin's heart raced as he fumbled with the door handle, desperate to escape the house as quickly as possible. The air felt heavy and oppressive, and he needed to escape the suffocating atmosphere surrounding him. As he brushed past Arthur, he couldn't help but notice the soapy scent that lingered in the air, mingled with the heat that radiated from the professor's body. Despite the fleeting sensation of attraction that passed through him, Merlin's mind was too occupied to see Arthur as anything other than his client at this very moment.

The task consumed his thoughts, and he didn't have time for distractions. Arthur was left standing, mouth agape, as he watched the door close. He couldn't help but wonder about the sudden change in Merlin's behavior. If it wasn't about the phone call, then what was it? Breakfast had been going smoothly until Merlin received the call. Lost in thought, Arthur went to his study, frustrated and confused.

"That doesn't sound good," he replied, immediately walking to Merlin's side, who showed him the screen.

Arthur grimaced, "The Sun? I don't read that crap."

But then he saw it. There was a picture of him and Merlin kissing. It was grainy, but you could see that it wasn't casual; it was a full-on lip lock.

"You shouldn't underestimate how many people are going to see this," Merlin said, then reading aloud while Arthur got up and paced.

MERTHUR Reunion

At the break of dawn, Merlin stood on the bridge, his eyes scanning the surroundings. He was waiting for someone, someone who had called him earlier that day, claiming to be Arthur. Merlin was excited and curious about their first meeting, wondering how it would unfold.

Arthur was nervously looking up at Merlin's towering figure on the other side of the bridge. He had no idea if Merlin would recognize him after eons of time. He took a deep breath and reminded himself that he had been given a second chance at life. He was still new to this world, but the Lady of the Lake had prepared him well. He hoped this would also allow Merlin and him to reconcile their past.

The bridge was quiet, except for the sound of the gentle breeze and the birds chirping. Merlin was lost in thought, wondering how different Arthur would look after so many years. On the other hand, Arthur was trying to calm his nerves and come up with something to say when he finally met Merlin.

As the minutes ticked by, Merlin and Arthur were lost in their thoughts, each wondering what the other was thinking. Finally, they caught each other's eyes, and it was clear that they both recognized each other. A small smile crept up on their faces, and they both knew that this reunion was long overdue.

Excerpt: Again, tears streamed down the professor's face. He didn't even bother to wipe them away. Following an irresistible impulse, Merlin put his arm around Arthur's shoulders. To comfort him, he told himself. Just to comfort him for a few moments before he went back to being his bodyguard. Against all his doubts at the beginning of this assignment, Merlin realized that he wanted to stay and protect this man. His fate was sealed the first time Arthur clung to him before looking into those beautiful blue eyes.

It felt like a whiplash that brought Merlin back to his senses. What the hell was going on? He let go of Arthur and said, "I'm sorry. I think I better go now. It's been a helluva day for both of us. And my headache is killing me. I hope you don't mind..."

"No, not at all. Thanks for keeping me company."

Headache. Merlin knew it was a lame excuse, but it was the best he could come up with before he got tangled up in a web of emotions he wasn't ready to deal with.

Arthur stared at the door after it closed. Merlin Ambrose was unlike the other two agents, and Arthur wished he hadn't left. But he understood that the agent was focused on his job and couldn't get involved with him. The guy was a pro through and through. But a pro with a heart.

"I forgot to tell you, sorry." Christopher said innocently. "I'm staying at Carla's. We're going to have a nice movie night."

Carla grinned when she saw the surprise on Buck's face, "Don't look so stunned. I'm sure you and Eddie have a lot to talk about."

"I love you, Buck," Christopher said as he stood up, hugged him, and walked over to Carla.

Carla would have loved to take a picture of Buck's face. The look was priceless. A short time later, the door closed, and the two men were alone.

Buck entered the living room just as Eddie came out of the kitchen with two bottles of beer. Buck hooked his thumb over his shoulder and said, "Was this some kind of set up?"

Eddie shrugged, "I swear I wasn't involved in the planning."

"You were," Buck grinned. Eddie handed him one of the bottles. They toasted each other and took a sip.

Eddie shook his head, "No, really. I swear I had no idea." Then they sat down—Buck on the couch, Eddie across from him.

"So how was studying with Christopher?" Eddie asked.

"I don't know why he wanted me to study with him. He completed all the exercises perfectly."

"I think he missed you." Eddie left the sentence as it was.

Buck nodded, "Yeah, I know. He told me. I wonder, though... Did anyone else miss me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, nothing, forget it."

MERTHUR - Merlin is Arthur's closest and most trusted friend and his guardian angel in times of peril. He sits vigilantly beside Arthur, his eyes fixed on his friend's face, watching every breath and every twitch of his body. He hopes that the magic he has woven and the medicine he has administered will work, bringing healing and relief to Arthur's battered body.

Merlin's devotion to Arthur is unshakeable, and he refuses to leave until he is sure that his friend is out of danger. He spends his time studying the ancient tomes of magic, consulting with the spirits of the earth, and performing incantations in the hopes of finding a cure for Arthur's wounds. He knows that the kingdom's fate rests on Arthur's survival and is determined to do everything he can to ensure his friend pulls through.

As the days pass and Arthur's condition slowly improves, Merlin remains by his side, offering words of encouragement and hope. He watches as the color returns to Arthur's cheeks and the light returns to his eyes. Finally, after days of exhaustion, Merlin's body can no longer keep up with the demands of caring for his friend, and his eyelids grow heavy. As he lies there, with his head resting on Arthur's shoulder, he feels a sense of peace and safety wash over him, drifting into a deep, dreamless sleep.

When the wolf told him to turn left, he did so without hesitation, and when he told him to turn right, he obeyed without question. The terrain was treacherous, with jagged rocks jutting out of the ground and only a tiny amount of snow remaining. Despite the difficult conditions, Arthur persevered, driven by the cold wind that blew through his fur and filled his senses with its icy touch.

As he climbed higher and higher, the scent of the air around him changed, and Arthur was instantly reminded of the night Merlin had stood at his door. Memories flooded back, and he paused for a moment on a large rock overlooking the forest that had once been his home. From this vantage point, he could see the trees stretching as far as the eye could see, and he felt a pang of nostalgia as he thought of all the happy times he had spent there. But now, the darkness had taken over, and what was left was nothing to be proud of.

"You know what you're forcing me to do," Arthur said to his wolf as he looked beyond the mountains into a future full of possibilities.
