hey so... everyone knows Kabru is the opposite of Laios, but nobody talks about how the rest of their party members are also opposed,
scab criminal Mickbell against unionized worker Chilchuck
dogboy against catgirl
Rin the outlaw mage who hasn't actually done anything wrong against Marcille the highborn upper class mage who's secretly a necromancer
Dia the dwarf who distrusts dungeons against Senshi the naturalist who's lived in dungeons for decades
Holm the support mage who uses other creatures as a shield against Falin the cleric with a martyr complex

This is so true.
Listen folks, I get that not everyone has time to read the manga and that it’s the one Kabru joke people have. But to be clear and give a summary:
Kabru was labeled a monster by his community and driven out because of his eye color. He himself thinks, maybe a little more subconsciously as an adult, that he is a monster. Because of what is 100% just a rare genetic trait.
The fact that he discloses it to Laios directly implies it’s still on his mind.
(And of course our big beautiful man is like, sure you could be a bee! Isn’t that cool, Kabru?)
And anyway consider what happens in his childhood. He loses his hometown that his mother settled in (Utaya), to monsters. But not just any monsters, monsters that spawn from the corpses of the humans that were killed. Humans that turn into monsters destroyed Kabru’s home and killed his mother.
Kabru thought he is a monster because of his eye color, mother lost her home because of it, then she lost her life to humans-turned-monsters because she had to move them there. Connect the dots. Kabru thinks he is a monster who caused his mother’s death.
From there he is adopted by an elf, and experiences life as a short lived tall-man in a world of long lived elves.
His life is a long parade of being othered. Even his own party finds him weird and off putting and assume the worst of his intentions that come directly from his interest in people
It’s fine to have your one joke about blue eyes scary but it’s really a central element to his character that has a tangible impact on him. It’s part of the character that I feel is deeply misunderstood.
(As a small bonus, when you put these elements together; consider the real reason he’s interested in Laios Touden,)
Something about people making fun of Kabru's blue eyes feels very much like they're missing the entire point of his character...
