Happy birthday, March 8th. It’s 2022 today for you, and still 2019 for me. How are the clouds for you right now? How does the sun shine through them? It’s been three years now since the first March 8th you shared with happy-birthday-letters. I hope those have been good years for you. A lot can happen in three years- but then, a lot can happen every day. Isn’t that just a little bit exciting? There are so many new and beloved things that can spring into the world each moment, even if we can’t quite see them yet. They’re there, just on the horizon of every tomorrow. We’ll be able to see them soon. It’s the first day of the rest of their lives, the rest of all our lives- and you know, I think that’s pretty cool.
I hope it’s a good day for you, March 8th, but even if it’s not as great as it could be, at least you’re here. At least we’re here, together, today.
There’s a tree across from my window now- our window, or our window-that-was. A window into your past and my present. A friend tells me the tree looks like a T-rex. It is a good tree. I think there are a lot of good trees in the world that we haven’t seen yet- have you found any more, three years from now? I can’t wait to see them.

Happy birthday, March 8th
Happy birthday, March 8th. For me, it’s still 2019, but for you it’s all the way in 2021! Wow, howsabout that? It’s really weird to think about.
How’s your life going? I hope you’re doing well. Did it snow today for you? Or rain? Or was the sun shining brightly through the whole day, both literally and metaphorically? I hope you have some days like that, just good, warm days- warm of temperature and warm of heart. And days with the quiet beauty of it’s-definitely-not-still-supposed-to-be-winter.
Did you get everything you wanted outta Fate Grand Order? How did you resolve our indecision about whether to roll for Illya or Kingprotea, since their banners were so close together? Did you ever get Jalter or Merlin? What did you spend your 15million download ticket on? I hope you completed enough events to have all 38 grails that should be out by now- we said we’d be better about that! Is FGO still going strong on the JP server, or is the end finally in sight? Did they ever bring back Romani or Olga Marie? Do you have any more favorite Servants now? Any new anime? Did the Princess Principal movies turn out okay? What new Pokemon stuff has come out lately? Gen 8 is just on the horizon for us here, and I’m still wondering about the wisdom of getting a Switch. Any new D&D campaigns with everyone?
How’s our friends and family? What new memories have you made since you were me? What mistakes would you tell me to avoid, if you could reach me from across the years? What about work, about the world, about all the things we’d hoped for, would you tell me?
I have so many questions for you, March 8th, even though I know it’ll take two years for you to answer me. There are so many new things that you must know that I do not, yet. But I will learn them, in time. It’s the first day of the two-year journey to get there, the journey that we all must take in this world. There’s something exciting and terrifying about these steps we’re taking into the world that spreads out with open arms before us. There are so many new things that are only just beginning for you, that aren’t yet a twinkle in my eye.

Happy birthday, December 25th, 2020! How time must have flown for you! Or perhaps it drove by, a lazy river through the years- but no, I suspect it will have flown! Have a good Christmas! And a good New Years- that must be coming up soon too! I hope that this holiday season finds you well. How’s work been treating you? How’re all our friends? Have you met new people that are now also friends? I have so much to ask you, December 25th, but it is late at night (or perhaps very early in the morning, not even half an hour into the day yet!) and I must sleep soon. I will content myself with knowing that I shall learn the answers to my questions in time.

Happy Birthday July 24th.
I started writing this letter a long time ago. Last July, probably the 29th, actually! But now it’s a lot later, so I don’t even remember how things were, then.
How were you, July 24th? How were things, all those months ago?
This was right after some pretty sad happenings, right? That’s what I see, looking back on these letters.
And now, as I write this, some pretty sad times have come around again. The world is holding its breath, it seems like, waiting for it to stop.
Oh July 24th, 2019. You’ll have some pretty good happenings in the future, you know? No- please know. For everything that’s happened, both good and bad- there’s so much good, even now in the world. So many brilliant people. So many brilliant things to discover. You’ll find some new excellent stories- and the stories will be written on your heart, just a little bit.

And to you, July 24th, 2020? How are you? Is the world returning to its moorings, spinning in the sky? How are your people, how are your hopes? I hope you’re well. I hope everyone is well.
