Ginny found Luna sitting on a log near the edge of the Forest, shivering despite the thin jacket she’d remembered to throw on in her desperation to be alone.
She had been sitting there for at least an hour, but her sniffles seemed incredibly loud in the few quiet moments where Ginny stood before Luna’s bowed head.
“Please don’t cry. I hate to see you cry.”
This was the worst part by far: Ginny, hovering, helplessness painted across her face. “Sorry,” burst out of Luna’s mouth before she could help it, and then another round of bottled-up sobs seared through her chest, pushing a strangled cry from her mouth.
“Did someone say something to you?”
Something like anger flickered across her face, so Luna grabbed her hand and pulled her close. Ginny relaxed slightly, but her brows were still furrowed. The treatment of Luna by other students was a sore topic for Ginny - Luna usually didn’t mind so much, but Ginny’s protectiveness always flooded her with warmth.
Not now, though.
She doubled over, hands snaking into her hair in a painful grip. “Fuck,” she muttered, relishing in the harshness of the word. This wasn’t her. This wasn’t her at all. “Sorry. No one said anything.”
A hand came to rest on Luna’s lower back, hesitant, almost afraid.
“My mom,” Luna said, wiping furious tears off her cheeks. They almost burned in the cold Forest air, but she liked the feeling. This is what it feels like, she thought, to be alive. “I see her all the time but I just can't - I can't hold on to her."
“Oh, Luna.” Warm arms wrapped around Luna from behind and she sank back into the embrace, cold tears streaming down her face. Luna gripped her like a lifeline. “Do you want to talk?” Ginny asked softly.
Luna shook her head, willing the tears and the ugly snot and the pain in every single crevice of her body to go away.
If she tried hard enough, she could almost remember what it felt to be held by her mother like this. Tightly, as if she was something to be kept and protected.
“I love you,” Ginny whispered. Luna closed her eyes and let her head rest on Ginny’s neck.
.
This was the thing about Luna: she was always a little bit hollow.
Every day, she carried the locket with her mother’s face in it and learned about her favorite creatures and loved them with everything she had inside of her. Every day, she loved and loved and convinced everyone else that she couldn’t feel the bombardment of glass shards chipping away at her.(That’s what Loonies did. They deflected that kind of pain). This was the thing about Ginny: she was filled to the brim with light and warmth.
“I love you,” she said again when they reached the Ravenclaw dorm. Tears threatened to fall at those words, but Luna blinked them back and smiled shyly. Even after several months of dating Ginny, she wasn’t used to the unguarded affection.
They were settled on Luna’s bed, curtains drawn and voices low. The room was dark, but a sliver of moonlight from the window peeked through and bathed their faces in a gentle light. “I love you too,” Luna whispered, watching Ginny’s face light up almost immediately. She pulled her in for a soft kiss, letting her arms rest on Ginny’s soft waist.
“I’m sorry,” she said when they pulled apart.
“What for?”
Luna slumped back against the bed, pulling the covers up to her chin. “I don’t know.”
“Please don’t be.” The words hung suspended in the air for a moment, until Luna’s loud sniffle broke the fragile bubble protecting them. “You can’t be strong for everyone all the time, you’d explode.”
This was another thing about Luna: she didn’t understand how Ginny’s words could be true when she was held together by string. “I miss my mom,” she said, long past caring about how whiney it sounded. “I…” she trailed off, her sentence ending in a sigh. “I don’t know. I know she’s still with me, but I can’t always feel it. Sometimes I just wish I remembered more about her.”
Her fingers were wrapping around her locket before she even realized it, and Ginny’s warm palm came to rest on hers. Ginny had always been the strong one. Luna never vocalized this, but she felt it in every embrace, with every booming laugh she let out.
“I wish I was strong like you,” she heard herself murmuring into the pillow, quiet enough that it felt like a secret. Maybe it was. Ginny whispered something, but Luna was too tired to make out any words.
On days like this, very little mattered more than the exhaustion buried deep in her bones. All Luna had left of her mom was her locket and the knowledge that something within Luna had disappeared the night her mom died. She wasn't sure what it was exactly, just knew deep down that something irreplaceable had been lost. No matter how deep she dug her heels into the ground, the wind was stronger than she was.
Ginny’s arms were so, so warm…
“I love you,” she heard again, whispered in her ear so softly she might have imagined it.
For now, she could sleep.

Here are a few to include:
One Day You Will Be Mine by gracerene: When things get dark outside, and the truth of wartime sets in, the Room of Requirement delivers what is needed. Unless you’re a love-sick Parvati, in which case the room might just decide to torture you a little more.
Pansy, Rows, and Mutual Wanking by violetclarity: Eighth year. Hermione's ready. She's going to study, have fun with her friends, and ignore her new roommate's obnoxious wanking habits. And alright, maybe she wouldn't be so annoyed with it if she'd had any good sex in the past. But that doesn't mean she wants Pansy Parkinson to teach her how to wank....does it?
Rumor Has It by Melecka: Ginny doesn't remember giving the reporter the quote, but she's certainly never been one to back away from a challenge. And she's certainly not going to deny that she's in a relationship with Hermione just to make a few bigots feel better about themselves.Or, Ginny accidentally outs Hermione to the whole Wizarding World. Fake dating shenanigans ensue.
Yours by PTwritesmore: Ginny Weasley is bubbling with uncharacteristic anxiety as she meets up with an old classmate and current pen pal. Does Cho Chang feel the same way, or is it all in Ginny's head?
Beautiful by canttouchthis: Seven moments stolen in hidden alcoves and in the shadow of an oak tree. A story about longing and falling in love.

New femslash fic rec - Lavender/Parvati!
Rarepair Rec Saturday
Midsummer Night's Magic by Kiertorata (T, 3.7k, Lavender/Parvati)
An ancient midsummer night's rite doesn't work, or maybe it does. Obliviousness, magic, summer and wine, and post-war vibes.
This is such achingly gorgeous writing. I really can't get enough of how quotable it is, and the relentless feelings it gives me. I love how their joy in being together is underscored first. The ultimate friends-to-lovers.
