happy butch appreciation day to all of the lovely butches out there! ♡ i pulled all the visuals from an old survey i put out back in winter.... 100ish people sent in what they think of when they see the word "butch" and it makes me feel so warm every time i scroll though it :) i chose the most frequently listed/visually fitting, but i also wanted to include things that reminded me of my butch (his work boots, bandana)… i'd also love to someday do a piece including some of the more subtle submissions from the survey! one big collage of butch!!! :)

There's a part of me thatr wishes I could separate it entirely from gender, and another part which sees it as exactly right that this is gendered, that there are ways of butchness that are composed of the best of masculinity and leave all of its borrish excesses behind.

But I met this butch, a handsome writing with a toughness about him that I recognized as the result of his life for the forty-six years before he and I crossed paths, a toughness that even still showed an underlying playfulness. That he had been able to keep that place alive and tender in the hardness of life made him light up my eyes as someone who would know some of the things I knew, someone who would honor the same places in me, and we started talking. I love being butch4butch, tbh. Like, let’s fucking fulfill some stereotypes and build stuff together, go hiking together, appreciate each others’ hands and arms and shoulders, feel each others’ callouses running over our skin. I love masculinity in women/nonbinary butches and I know from experience that it’s hard to exist in the world like this and I know they have so much courage to be true to themselves. We can be a refuge for each other from the bullshit we experience in the outside world and understand and care for each other on a deep level.

I’m such a service butch. Let me make you coffee and breakfast in the morning. Let me open doors for you so you don’t have to worry about them. Give me a task and I’ll gladly do it. I’m so happy when I can do something for someone. Let me help you cook you a meal or join you when you have to move your clothes from the washing machine to the drier. I can’t wait to have a partner I can take care of. To cuddle up on a couch and watch a movie with or talk for hours while keeping our hands all over each other. I can’t wait to spend my time loving someone who makes me happy.
