Does anyone else think Lucifer's design is a little disappointing? For the most powerful being in Hell he doesn't really look all that threatening. Maybe he's like Charlie and he has a more demonic form that hasn't been revealed yet, but from what we do know about him so far I just think he's eh. He looks like your typical Tumblr sexyman, honestly.
And I do get what Vivzie was trying to go for with those apple things he has, but imo it looks a little silly on him

OKAY WOW now I know why I liked Striker's voice, he's voiced by Norman Reedus. I know I'm super late to finding out this, I don't usually check who voices who.
And honestly - as cool as it is to get a celebrity like him make a guest appearance, now I'm just wondering why there's a celebrity in almost every episode.
I don't like that they're spending so much money on these actors when they could be using it on something else, especially since they're on a tight budget. Even cartoons on television with a bigger budget don't try getting celebrity guest appearances every episode. Not only that, I thought Helluva boss was supposed to be some silly spinoff to distract us from Hazbin still being in production, so I really don't think getting all these major celebrities are neccessary.

Mm, yeah, I would've preferred Blitzo hiring him and having him stick around for a little while longer.
I think it would be a lot more interesting if he was hired and his perfect talented guy schtick kept going. It would've been interesting to see Moxxie's insecurities escalate further and have the show plant a little doubt in the viewer's head that maybe he's not actually bad and it's just Moxxie's perception of him that makes us think he's a villain, but nope. He ends up just being a generic twist villain that's revealed way too soon.
Okay so my personal opinions on episode 5.
After finishing the episode it just felt like...way too much happened way too quickly in the end. It felt like they wanted to throw in as much cool stuff as possible without thinking about pacing, and I think this episode would've been better as a two parter.
..And am I supposed to feel bad for Stolas and worry about his well being and new threat to the show? Well I'm not, literally the first minute of this episode ruined everything that episode 2 set up and I still dislike him as much as I did in the pilot.
And as for that new villian? ..Eh. Pretty generic. I do like his voice and design, but I've seen this sort of character done so many times to the point I don't really care.
The animation felt like a mixed bag in this episode, I admit there was some really really amazingly animated scenes. I thought that scene where Moxxie discovers that rifle looked REALLY cool with that 3D perspective. On the other hand, there was some really choppy and stiff animation here and there.
TLDR: I would've preferred this episide being a two parter and letting the viewers breathe before having stuff escalate in the end, and I would've liked if this new villain didn't fall into this overused trope of "perfect at everything and better than our poor main character who's becoming suspicious of them. and then OH NO our main character was right they really were the bad guy!!"

I am so sorry for the sudden leave, especially since I just started my blog. Discourse and callouts are a huge trigger of mine at the moment and when I saw I was being manipulated I got extremely overwhelmed with anxiety and I needed to leave. That stuff is what I wanted to escape from and when I saw it happening the week I returned to Tumblr after years is just, ugh. Hopefully things are better now.
...Anyway! I might write my thoughts on the newest episode later. It'll probably be just my opinions and not anything critical, cause I like to write my personal opinions about stuff first

While I know there are multiple writers on the team I assumed Vivzie wrote most of the script and jokes in Hazbin, so my bad for that and I won't put everything completely against her next time I write a post like this. I'm really new to Spindlehorse stuff in general, and I don't know all the people involved in the crew and who does what, so I'm pretty naive when it comes to what other critical blogs say since I assume they know better than me. From now on in this post I'll just share my opinion on the humor without targeting a single person.
I still haven't changed my opinion on thinking the jokes are poorly written. A lot of western adult animation are vulgar for the sake of being vulgar, and I don't like Hazbin and Helluva boss falling into that category when it doesn't have to be. Unlike most of those awful adult cartoons on TV, Hazbin was originally an indie project and wasn't controlled by a network executive. They were free to do whatever they wanted, and they ended up...falling into western adult cartoon sterotypes.
I loved the emotional scene from episode 2 and I really enjoyed that son of 666 short. Vivziepop has a talent for these emotional scenes and I would love to see more of it. I just want less of the jokes that feel like they pander more to middle schoolers than to adults, I want to watch a show actually made for me, since Vivzie always claims her shows are intended for adults.
And mm, yeah, I saw a bit of the stuff that happened to you. I'm sorry that happened and honestly I'm a little hesitant in continuing to post here because I had literally no idea this part of the fandom was so hostile and negative towards other people. I just wanted a small community of people who aren't extreme stans or extreme antis, but I guess I can't escape negativity :/
I know I'm basically repeating what was said in the last post I reblogged, but this has been bugging me for a while and I wanted to put it into my own words. Warning, I'll probably be saying the same points over and over since I'm sleep deprived.
Honestly the amount of kids in the hazbin fandom does make me really uncomfortable. Like, of course every adult show are going to have fans who are minors, that's pretty much inevitable, but the fans that I've seen Hazbin have are...extremely young and are the majority of the fanbase, at least from what I've seen. And Vivzie is totally at fault for this because of the way she writes her shows.
I consider Hazbin/Helluva more of a show for young teenagers than adults, cause that's what the kind of writing in Hazbin appeals to. The jokes are mostly just sex,
Tumblr media
characters (mostly children for some reason?) getting brutally murdered,
Tumblr media
And characters using curse words for no reason other than just to be edgy and shocking.
Tumblr media
And while these may be "mature" things that would never fly on a children's network, it doesn't necessarily mean this is for adults. As an adult, I feel like all of this stuff is extremely juvenile. These jokes don't make me think, don't make me go "...oh yeah, I get it!", it's just mindless profanities that makes me feel like I'm watching one of those old YouTube video game parodies that constantly just have the characters cussing and talking about sex. And, of course, preteens were the main audience of those parodies.
If Vizvie wants to appeal more to adults she needs to improve her writing and make her world feel less like an edgy children's cartoon and actually make something that's made for a grown adult. Cut down on the cartoony sound effects, the jokes that offer nothing except letting the viewers know these characters are horny as fuck, and the random forced cussing that remind me of when I was a kid who constantly swore just to shock people, and actually tell a mature, thought provoking story with clever jokes sprinkled in.

I feel like we're gonna learn about millie's family namely because of the fact that blitzo said his employees are from there and in episode 2 attention was for a breif moment focused on millie's past with her family. (Her and her brothers used to visit loo loo land)
…See, as nice as that would be, I doubt that’s going to be the case.
Something like that would make sense for like you know, a competent show, and Helluva Boss…………………………is not that.
Based off the storyboard of this episode, It’s absolutely going to be a Stolas focused episode……………again.
Like again, it’s not like this show doesn’t have a chance to suddenly bring Millie into the spotlight. Cause they did it with episode 3 with Loona, but Millie just……… MMHHH??? She’s even more background than Loona.

I really have to wonder, is Hazbin/Helluva where the bar is for Viv when it comes to adult animation? Is this the type of humour she considers to be mature and appealing to people her age? If this is her taste thats fine but the fact it so quickly drew in a young audience who think saying swears makes them edgy is kinda concerning esp when she makes no effort to dissuade them from consuming content that she advertises to adults. She cant be this blind n uncaring as to who her audience is, right?
I think the issue is twofold.
One Viv is lazy with her humor. That’s it. She’s not a good writer, she has no idea how comedy works and doesn’t realize that adult humor doesn’t just have to rely on cuss words and sex. She can’t get out of her middle school mindset.
Secondly, Viv only cares about her audience when it’s convenient for it. I’m not saying she has to worship her fans but she should consider herself lucky while also realize that if it wasn’t for the fans, Hazbin wouldn’t have gotten the attention it did. Like she can’t seem to find this balance of making boundaries while also realizing that her fans deserve some respect.

Why does Moxxie get treated like this? It's not funny, it's just cruel and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially since Moxxie is my favorite Helluva Boss character.
Tumblr media
Slapstick comedy where a likable character who did nothing wrong gets hurt DOES NOT WORK. It's cruel, it's not funny, and all it accomplishes is the viewer wondering what that character did to deserve this.
To look at a good example of good and bad slapstick humor, Let's analyze Squidward Tentacles from Spongebob.
Tumblr media
This is funny because Squidward deserved this. Squidward was grumpy and complaning to Spongebob the entire episode, so him randomly getting crushed by the giant rock he called a "stupid boulder" is hilarious and a good example of slapstick humor.
Tumblr media
...And this is not. In this episode Squidward constantly gets tortured just because he didn't want to listen to Spongebob singing. The torture Squidward goes through is not funny, and you just feel bad for him the entire episode.
Now back to Moxxie.
Tumblr media
What did Moxxie do to deserve this? Absolutely nothing. The Helluva boss writing team needs to realize that characters getting hurt for no reason isn't funny, they need to BUILD UP the slapstick with the character being an asshole so them randomly getting hurt will actually be funny.

Thank you so much, this is very helpful!! :)
@helluva-critic
I saw your concerns about being in the tags and…
Here are some tips to help with that! 💖
1. If you were using copied images, your post might have confused a picture for a link and since they dont want links…. will keep it from showing up :/
So if this happens:
Use a screenshot OF the picture with the snipping tool or download it instead.
That way, the website wont get confused and you can get back to posting1
2. Organize your tags until it appears.
Sometimes, the tag order can mess things up as well.
So first, check if your post confused a picture for a link.
And THEN if that doesnt work, switcharoo your tags till the order appears or rewrite your tags altogether if all else fails.
3. Have fun! :>
So thats about it, I saw how you were having trouble with the tags (trust me, they tend to be a little sucker to me too 😂 especially in the main one) and I hope that this helps. Thank you!

Tried my hand at simplifying some Hazbin Hotel characters. Tried to make shapes more simple, less feathering, removed extra adornments and flattened colours. It was a fun exercise.  Angel had colour changes and lost his bowtie (only because too many characters have bowties and heterochromia) Alastor has cleaner shapes, less hair feathering and no more fangs and horns. I think fangs and horns should be saved for when he goes full demon. Vaggie has simplified shapes and a couple of adornments removed Husk has simpler shapes, flat colour, smaller wings with no patterns and animal like legs

Trashbin Hottake #3: The double standard couple writing
Now, this is a complaint I’ve seen for awhile. “Charlie and Vaggie don’t act like a couple!!”
For the longest time, I thought this claim was stupid. I thought they acted like a couple... that was, until I saw Helluva Boss. I saw Millie and Moxxie, their chemistry, and how they were written. I compared that to Charlie and Vaggie, their chemistry, and how they were written. I noticed some glaring issues.
If you haven’t read my Hottake on how Charlie is a shitty girlfriend; just check my #mod talks tag and you’ll most likely see it. Or type Hottake, you’ll find it. I won’t be focusing much on that here, however there will be mentions when discussing writing. Let us begin;
Now, when first being introduced to these couples, we aren’t really told they’re a couple right away. For Helluva, we find out a little later in the episode. During Hazbin, we have slight inklings. However, these inklings are very vague, which is a huge problem.
Now, Viv has claimed Vaggie and Charlie aren’t very.. I guess lovey-dovey? Vocal?.. that they’re together. That’s fine, couples can be very quiet about their relationship vocally, but they display it physically in return.
Simple things such as constantly holding hands, laying their head on the other’s shoulder, and hooking arms together can show characters in a relationship. That, and using little pet names.
Vaggie and Charlie don’t do any of this.
Here’s what we see of Vaggie and Charlie that could indicate they’re a couple.
A gentle nose boop.
Tumblr media
Charlie cheering Vaggie up, and they exchange looks. Vaggie’s looks far more loving than Charlie’s buuuut that’s just me.
Tumblr media
And this “tender” moment, where Charlie tells Vaggie she can take care of herself.
Tumblr media
All of this looked like “couple-y” moments to me, because Viv said they were a couple.
You hear that?
They looked like a couple, because Viv said they were one.
If you take away that fact, we just see really good friends. Doesn’t help the fact that friends are normally very affectionate, especially female friends.
Charlie and Vaggie also rarely use pet names.
In the first few minutes we see Charlie and Vaggie, Vaggie says this line;
“Life ain’t a musical, hon.”
Hon, she says hon once out of the entire 30 or so minute pilot.
All we can take away from the pilot is, Vaggie is super devoted to Charlie. We see her support Charlie’s dreams, cheer her on, worry about her, punch someone in the face for her, and constantly grab her spear when Charlie is in danger.
Charlie.. is like Vaggie’s naive friend. One who doesn’t really notice Vaggie’s efforts.
Now, let’s compare this to Millie and Moxxie.
The first couple-like exchange we see between the two of them is this scene.
Tumblr media
Millie invades Moxxie’s personal space, followed by Moxxie blushing. This alone shows they are already comfortable with each other, and are in a relationship.
A little later, we are followed by Moxxie saying— “Can you please stop finding me and Millie outside of work?”
This blatantly tells us these two live together. Followed by Millie saying, “Come on sweetie, it ain’t that big a deal!”
Millie uses a pet name, this confirms they’re at least dating. However, it doesn’t stop there.
Tumblr media
Here we see a compilation of Millie and Moxxie doing “cute couple stuff.” Such as, cooking together, sleeping together, and singing a song together. In the cooking scene, Moxxie calls Millie Honey. Sooo, there’s another pet name.
This shows the audience how close they are, and how in love they are.
Next, we’re shown a scene of Millie calming Moxxie down from an outburst.
Tumblr media
This looks a lot more loving than Charlie’s hand on Vaggie’s shoulder. Besides, Millie shows far more concern for her husband, literally stating: “Calm down Mox, you’re gonna have another panic attack!”
She has this look of feel concern in her face, while Charlie just had a smile. Clearly, Millie cares far more about Moxxie’s temper than Charlie does about Vaggie’s.
Plus, temper outbursts aren’t fun. Vaggie, constantly being stressed and angry, must feel awful all the time. Yet, her girlfriend doesn’t do shit.
At the end credits, we’re given a full version of the “Oh Millie” song. This song is accompanied with a little animatic of Millie and Moxxie. This, again, shows their chemistry.
Tumblr media
Here we see a romantic dinner.
Tumblr media
The “rowing a boat under the stars” cliche.
Tumblr media
Dancing in the rain.. well, blood rain—
Tumblr media
And a parody of a proposal, featuring a grenade instead of a ring. Also, the explosion turns into a heart.
We are given constant reminders during Helluva that Millie and Moxxie are a couple. Later, through patreon leaks, the public has found out Millie and Moxxie are married.
There’s even a hint that they’re married, in the background of some scenes we see a wedding photo of them.
How come Viv wrote Millie and Moxxie as such a healthy, happy couple... Yet, Charlie and Vaggie act like friends? With, Charlie being downright shitty and Vaggie being a wonderful girlfriend?
This double standard is gross. Also, thank you for 100 followers. Consider this a gift from me to you.
