booktok nesta stans may be the worst breed i've ever encountered

"if you don't like this fictional character then you can't possibly have had a traumatic home life"

that video is asking if nesta haters have or do not have mental illness. it has multiple comments like that.

DO YOU PEOPLE NOT HEAR YOURSELVES?

you do not need trauma to like or dislike ANY character.

i am the eldest sister. i have had a more traumatic home life than i would ever talk about on this app. i have depression. i struggle mentally every day.

and i don't like nesta. never have. i just don't.

i can understand her, understand her struggles and her character...and still hate her. understanding does not mean i have to forgive her. love her.

her reasonings, her development and her 'redemption' at the end were lacking. they did not make her more tolerable to me. and thats okay.

i don't want yall to try change my mind. thats not what this conversation is about. but the fact that so many have the mentality that if you don't like nesta then you just haven't got enough trauma, you just haven't been through enough...is disgusting. like beyond words disgusting, and the fact that this mentality is so normalised on that side of the fandom is scary.

love nesta or hate nesta, i really don't care. but do not defend her like this.

ELRIEL HADES/PERSEPHONE FORESHADOWING

i don't think sjm with follow the myth exactly, she'll switch it up like authors always do with retellings, but i'll explain the similarities first and at the end i'll tell you how i think she'll change the story!

ELAIN - PERSEPHONE

godess of spring and flowers, constantly compared to innocence and light. gets taken from her home to the night court. falls for the god of death.

AZRIEL - HADES

god of death/the underworld. azriels name literally translate to 'angel of death' and how many times is he compared to death and darkness? falls in love with persephone from afar, but demeter(rhys) tries to keep them apart.

GWYN - MINTHE

both are a red haired river nymph(naiad). minthe tries to make persephone jealous and ends up getting turned into a mint leaf. (i personally don't think itll go that way but i'll explain at the end) in the myths she dwelled in the river Cocytys, that flows into the river Acheron, the river that the archerons just happen to be named after.

GRAYSEN - ADONIS

a mortal boy that persephone fell in love with. when he had to split his time between aphrodite and persephone he chose to spent most with aphrodite. (this could represent graysen choosing the humans over elain when she turned fae).

RHYS/LUCIEN - DEMETER

demeter was persephones mother whos main role in the myth was trying to keep hades and persephone apart. like how rhys forbid elriel. demeter also forced persephone to split her time between the mortal world and the underworld (the human realm and nightcourt). and lucien currently lives in the human realm...

everyone and their grandma sees how elriel give the hades and persephone vibes but if you actually look into it, theres so many specific things that allude to it

the only thing im not sure about is where the whole dynaminc of lucien would fit in. but authors add new characters to retellings all the time so i suppose thats fine.

so, rhys has already played demeter and set up the whole forbidden love thing. in the myth its well known that hades kidnaps persephone to marry him, but i don't see azriel abducting elain anytime soon so dont worry about that lmao.

in mythology persephone is forced to spend spend half the year with hades and half with demeter back up in the real world. maybe this represents her being forced to spend time with lucien in the next book? and then going back and forth to the night court? either rhys or lucien could demand this of her since they would be in the role of demeter.

in the end of course hades and persephone get married, and minthe starts boasting about how shes more beautiful and how hades will choose her in the end as they are past lovers. sjm definitely wont make azriel a cheater so i wouldn't worry about the past lovers part, but gwyn seems too nice to boast like that so maybe its a misunderstanding that causes trouble. the biggest candidate for this is the necklace! some jealousy is caused but not a big fight or anything. i really dont think she'll get turned into a plant though💀elains not the type to do things out of spite so i imagine gwyn will be fine.

rhys being demeter is likely. he's kind of her guardian in a way. demeter wanted persephone to stay in the mortal world to provide the harvest for everyone even though persephone wanted to be in the underworld with hades. elain has the burden of political alliances on her shoulder because of her mate bond with lucien. this could again hint to rhys making her spend time with lucien in the human lands (mortal world)when she really wants to go back to azriel in the night court(underworld).

i think that lucien is going to have more of demeters role however. rhys loves azriel and cares for elain so he'll accept their relationship in the end, lucien however may not as hes her mate. i think its more likely to be lucien than rhys that demands that elain spends time with him in the human lands and the rest in the night court. i feel like this would lead to her hating him the way persephone hated demeter. this could end in the blood dual(that's definitely happening btw)

PSA i do not think this will be the plot of the book!! but with all the hades and persephone foreshadowing i feel like these will just be some things that happen in it. but not the actual plot, that will have more to do with elain powers and koschei etc. and even if my theory is correct and its a hades and persephone retelling, it wont follow the myth exactly, some parts will be changed and go differently!

i think the next book will be a mix of the hades and persephone myth and the tale of blodeuwedd, which i will do a post on next!

AZRIEL LOSING HIS SHADOWS? // GWYN IS A LIGHTSINGER?

heres a theory that links both of these questions!!

firstly, i don't know why you all assume azriel loves his shadows or that they're anpart of him. he got them during a period of suffering...he might not actually like that he's followed by shadows 24/7.

im not saying he doesn't like the shadows, but since he's never clarified, and they could very well remind him of that awful time in his life, we shouldn't assume thata he does like them, or sees them as a good thing.

theres also evidence that his shadows leave when he's in a good mood but come out when danger is near or he's in a bad mood.

these are only a couple examples^^ . they also came out when nesta insulted elain, and when she was taken by hybern etc, but seem to leave in the presence of people he loves, which is indication that its not a good thing for them to come out.

now, they also came out and 'danced' near gwyn...

gwyn fans assumed this was a good thing, but if the shadows are shown to come out near danger(or azriels own unhappiness) then its not necessarily good that his shadow danced with her beath for no reason.

it may have actually sensed danger in her (which would support the 'gwyn is a lightsinger' theory).

im not going to go into detail about the lightsinger theory, if you look it up you'll see the clues

however, gwyn to me seemed like a nice person and she's got a genuine backstory and personality that i don't think she'll turn out to be 'evil' persay...she also spent so much time in the dark that in my opinion i think gwyn is a lightsinger but doesn't know it.

ie she poses no actual danger to our characters because shes one of the good guys in the book, but i think azriels shadows simply sensed her powers anyway and thats why they danced with her breath and also why we got those singing references.

i definitely think her singing has something to do with her power coming out, its inside her rather than a seperate part of her, like az's shadows.

now, onto azriel possibly losing his shadows

i honestly don't even know how mych im on board with this theory, im just analysing clues!!

now, when bryce accidentally ends up in prythian, the first person she interacted with is azriel. and she mentioned his wings, armour, beauty, and scarred hands...but not his shadows.

i know some of you with think this is very minor but come on, those shadows are the first thing people would notice...not to mention as i said, the shadows come out in dangerous situations...

bryce is literally a threat FROM A DIFFERENT WORLD...and theres not a shadow in sight???? that seems very strange to me.

also i personally think that hosab ( specifically the scene when bryce is in prythian) is set AFTER the next acotar story, or at the end of it. so it makes sense that during the next book he somehow loses/or willingly gets rid of the shadows and thats why bryce doesn't mention them.

him losing his shadows won't have anything to do with elain or gwyn, i think it will be a part of his own personal journey. nothing to do with ships.

now ive heard the argument that bryces power is light and thats why she didnt see the shadows...but feyre also has light powers, as does the high lord of day or dawn(can't remember which)...and they noticed the shadows...and if gwyns a lightsinger she definitely saw his shadows too...so if they were there, i think bryce would have seen them.

at the least sjm would have mentioned them in passing, but she didn't mention them at all which is strange because most if not all azriel scenes mention his shadows.

i think the theory that he loses them is more plausible than yall think...because when you think about it, he doesn't even need the shadows for his job since alot of his information comes from spys...he's not just the shadowsinger, remember he's a spymaster too!!

DUSK COURT THEORY BEING BROUGHT UP IN HOSAB

very minor hosab spoiler below

now...whats a perect equilibrium of light(elain) and dark(az)...oh i dont know...dawn or dusk

dusk court is mentioned when bryce is talking about other worlds and other types of fae. the most obvious other world to relate this too is the one she ends up in at the end of hosab...prythian.

theres already foreshadowing that elain conquers the third sister mountain(the prison) and i think the theory that it turns out to be the dusk court, will end up being true.

obviously one of our characters will rule it because sjm won't write in a whole new court and then just give it to some new random character to rule

so it makes sense for the one who was able to conquer it to rule it right?

lucien wont join her there because he will either take over spring from tamlin, dawn from helion(most likely since the helion being his dad storyline was created for a reason) or maybe even autumn(though i doubt that)

theres also foreshadowing that she doesn't fit into the night court completely, so she might end up somewhere else. shes content at the moment but sometimes it washes her out, or makes her look out of place like cassian said, but dusk is not complete night so it would be different. ya feel me?

you know who else said he isn't sure that he fits in the night court...az

also elain and azriel are CONSTANTLY referred to as "light, day, sun" and "death, shadow, darkness" and dusk is literally the perfect balance of that. sjm has made their parallels so damn obvious idk how yall chose to believe anything else but anyways

elain will definitely have a romance because sjm has said that every book will have one, and im counting lucien out because im fairly sure he will rule day court. (im not in the mood to debunk yalls 'elucien ruling day court' theories so i wont even bother atm)

but the book will have a happy ending romance...and who is elains only other current love interest? yeah i don't even need to say it

look...az fought to get her back from hybern when he barely knew her, so its likely that when she starts whatever mission shes on to conquer the prison, az will be the one to help her most. makes sense for him to help her conquer it and then rule by her side.
