A migrating phoenix has stopped for a decadent sippy of water from a stagnant puddle in a Walmart parking lot and has ignited the years of accumulated fuel leaks into the surrounding pavement. It's so happy.

I'm thousands of miles away and 30 years from when this was painted, but if the squirrel has less fluffy ears this is basically my view right now.

A lot of the Satanic Panic really lasted through the early 90s. Folks forget that with the 90s nostalgia - it was not a safe time to be spooky or queer.
Y'all. The Exorcist movie did not cause the Satanic Panic.
It laid some cultural groundwork, sure, but The Exorcist released in 1973. The actual Satanic Panic didn't start until 1980, with the publishing of Michelle Remembers.
And it wasn't just a bunch of people freaking out for no reason. The Moral Majority had been turning American evanglical Christians into a cohesive voting block over the past 7ish years. When Michelle Remembers was published, America had a freshly born massive political block that explicitly benefitted from hysteria around tales of satanic possession.
