“Sleeping beauty finally sees fit to join me now, does he? Took you long enough.” He wiggles his fingers while his wrist is caught. Pate doesn’t seem too concerned.

it’s definitely a cool find if it wasn’t just a mod! i only vaguely remember seeing the creator of that post modding him in the outfit patches was meant to be in from the early concept art so maybe thats what made me think its a full on mod! shaved head pate is a fun look either way. probably avoiding helmet hair lol

Creighton scrunches his face a bit when Pate pats his cheek, but he isn’t about to argue with the notion. He follows Pate inside with stiff, painful step, eventually finding his way to the fireplace and, at Pate’s words — not without a bit of struggle — sitting before it with legs outstretched. It’s a bit of a comical pose, like one doing a bit of yoga, especially once he reaches his hands towards the flames as well, but he’s not about to feign his typical ferocity when he’s frozen enough to shatter. He groans as the flames warm his toes.

Creighton isn’t so much of a fool that he doesn’t reach for the moss before the wine. He takes the bowl and places it beside him, quickly popping one of the bitter clumps of moss into his mouth and letting it work its magic. Like a blessing, he can feel its warmth trail through his limbs, from his heart to the tips of his fingers and toes.

It isn’t long before he feels good as new.

But he doesn’t abandon the fire, nor Pate who now sits beside him. He sighs out whatever traces of his anxiety are left before crossing his legs.

“You find anythin’ good other than wine?” he asks, eyeing the bottle and glasses. Not to imply that wine isn’t enough of a treasure, of course. He’s simply curious. “Swear your li’l trinket hauls are becomin’ less an’ less these days, an’ I know it ain’t cos you’re losin’ your touch.”

“Mm,” Pate hummed thoughtfully as he opened the bottle and began to poor his glass. His eyes narrowed at the fire, skin crinkling at the edges. “I salvage anything I like these days, it is hardly my fault most of it is junk I no longer need.” He waved a hand dismissively before taking a sip.  “What, are you expecting me to lug you back some new armor? You’ve worn the same thing since I’ve met you.” He gave Creighton a knowing glance before filling up Creighton’s glass. “Besides, I’m getting far too old to be taking so many risks.”

The farther Creighton walks, the colder his bare and snow-covered feet get. The cobblestone walkway is slippery with ice, and he stumbles slightly from the pain of looming frostbite and the numbness that creeps up his legs. His breath comes out in hot puffs. Home, though right before him, seems so far away.

Still, despite it all, he pauses slightly, both in word and step. Though he frowns deeply, and his tone is bitter and sharp, his words are soft as the man time’s turned him into. “I could be sweet an’ say any occasion’s special if it’s spent with you, but y’d prolly pinch my cheek or somethin’,” he says, finally reaching the doorway and stepping inside.

The warmth almost hurts. Still, he holds the door for Pate.

“Ah, but you went and said it anyway,” Pate quips with an amused raise of his brow before stepping inside while his hand patted at Creighton’s cheek. “Now get in here before you lose your feet, you oaf.”  Because of course the knight was holding the door for him while battling frostbite. Fool. He sighed, making his way to the little kitchen to at first grab the bowl of mossfruit. The wine could wait.

“Do sit down,” he called over his shoulder. He at least expected Creighton to sit close to the fire, which Pate too was all too eager to join. After finding where he’d stashed the wine, he grabbed it and a pair of glasses, carefully juggling the items on his way back into the larger room.
