“I believe that sexuality is a spectrum and I think Quentin falls somewhere in the middle of that, and I don’t think it’s something that— I think he’s anxious about a lot of things in his life and the fact that he’s not quite anxious about that is a little bit remarkable, and something that I’m choosing to lean into.”

worst part of original writing is getting hung up on your own lore. i miss fanfiction where i could look it up on a wiki and get five answers and ignore them all to make up my own thing because canon is stupid.

hey you know what’s still sending flames up the sides of my face? is that Penny23 makes this big life-changing human/or goddess choice for Julia in the season 4 finale and he’s not even her boyfriend. He’s not even her boyfriend! Or her partner, or husband, or even long-term hookup with feelings, or anyone who would reasonably be expected to act as medical proxy for an unconscious person when important decisions have to be made. You know who would be a better choice to make that call? Lipson, as her doctor, or Fogg, as the guy basically still in charge of the school she’s in, whatever the Librarians think, who has a history with her and some paternal feelings floating around. Quentin. Kady. Hell, Margo, Josh and Alice, while only barely friends with Julia, still have known her longer than Penny23.
The in-show universe reason why it’s up to him is that he’s the one standing there looking extra worried and having a lot of feelings, and Brakebills as an institution has the ethical standards of a blueberry pancake. The out-of-show writers reason is for the dramaz. I know this. It’s just that in a final two episodes that manage to pull a bunch of sexist bullshit on nearly all the main female characters, Julia’s big goddess/human decision (the decision which has been her only narrative arc, for the whole season!) getting delegated to ‘Guy who She’s Been Flirting With for a Few Months and has made Tentative Dinner Plans With’ is right at the top in terms of whatthefuckery.
