Midnight Moon Secrets

At long last, Saturday was here. Lily had vary little sleep last night. It felt like Friday night would never end, like the sun would never rise, like the moment of sleeping close to Scorpius would never come. She was used to him hugging out woth their family on holidays, butthat was different. No parents, not a lot of people. Rose came to pick her up with the invisibility cloak around 20.00. The sun had set for some hours now, and the full moon had finally started revealing. The boys were already by the lake setting the tent. The night passed quite lovely, they cooked soup and they boiled some herbs that Adrianne gave them. They were all playful with eachother but Lily clearly caught a glimpse of Scorpius looking at her, at multiple times. Her heart was racing and she was a bit more reserved than usual. Albus noticed it. He always does... Things are now quiet. Lily sat by the lake shore and looked up to sky in awe of how beautiful the moon was by that spot. This was her first time camping with them and now she understand perfectly why everyone insisted that the view of the moon is always better this way. But it isn’t just that. It’s also the castle standing next to the moon as if they are telling secrets to eachother. She could see all the lights from the windows of the castle, starting to disappear one by one slowly. People were going to bed. The castle was finally getting silent.

She could smell the water, the trees, the bushes. She could feel the energy of the moon. She looked to the mountains far away and started thinking of the next weekend already. It was their first trip to Hogsmeade this weekend and also Halloween. Adrianne stayed inside to prepare her costume and also because she was a little bit afraid of things like these... She began dreaming of things again. Things that she hopes would happen. Her walking side by side with Scorpius and accidentally but not really accidentally touching his hand, finding a way to be alone in the crowd and looking him in his beautifully melancholic grye eyes and kis.. “Hey you! Why are you sitting here all by yourself?”, Rose appeared from the bushes interrupting her thoughts. “Mind if I join you?”, she said smiling gently. “Sure”, there is plenty of room here”, Lily answered. Rose approached her and sat down next to her. She folded her legs and leaned forward to put her head to her knees, admiring the amazing view. She took a deep breath of calm satisfaction and smiled. That was probably Lily’s favourite thing about Rose. Her gentle little smile. She was never the loudest or the funniest of the family. Definately not like Albus. She was always very smart and quiet but very reserved, never letting it show up front. She was not shy, but she didn’t like to show off. Her smile though. That was what made her unique. You could always tell of the way she smirks, what she was about to say or do... For instance, Lily swore that Rose would start talking about the view and how calm she feels..

“You know, I am really going to miss this!”, Rose said while looking up to the castle. “The view?”, Lily answered satisfied with her guess earlier. “Hm”, Rose smiled gently and nodded negatively. “No, not the view, but the scenery itself. Me being part of it. Being a student running around in the corridors...”, she said and suddently her smile turned melancholic. “When you enter Hogwarts you believe you have so much time ahead of you and that at one point you will have experienced everything there is to experience... But honestly I don’t feel that way yet... I still haven’t been to every part of the castle, haven’t read most of the books in the library, haven’t walked all over every corner of the forest. I feel I need more time, you know... I am definately not done with this place and it frightens me that in a few months I must leave...” “I thought you said you wanted to leave and travel after Hogwarts... You know, like James”, Lily said a little confused. “Yes, of course I am going to do that... But for completely different reasons.. Not becaused I am tired of this place and I want to distance myself from it, but because I want to see what I can achive on my own you know... Not by my name or with the help of my family, but entirely by myself”, Rose answered inspired. “What do you mean? You have achieved a lot on your own. Yeah, I mean ok our family legacy sure is huge and sure is very recognizable, but your years here are your own.. right?”, Lily said being utterly baffled by Rose’s words. Rose smirked in a very sweet way once again. “Well, you see that’s not entirely true... I mean, sure, my achievements as a student are mine because I study hard and because I am interested, yes. But socially, I am a Granger-Weasley in Hogwarts. Sure, I have very good relationships with all my Ravenclaw roommates, but not really friendships... People respect me because of my name, not because of who I have proven to be to them. People want to get to know me because of my family’s legacy, not because of my interests necessarily. I have no close friends outside our family, because we take it for granted that we are all friends inside our family, and since everyone treats us as offsprings of historical figures and not as people, we stick with our family circle. I want to leave, because I want to meet people who want to know me, Rose, and not the daughter of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, the war heroes... I want to live experiences outside the cultural realm that has been shaped by our parents.” Lily finally understood. But at the same time she felt a little sad... “Well, what about, Scorpius? He is your friend, and at some point you two were pretty close... He is definately not our family...”, Lily asked. “Oh Scorpius...”, Rose said and took a deep breath. “Scorpius is Albus’ best friend, not mine. I am only friends with him because of Albus”, she said as she turned her head to look at the tent.

The light was still on, and they could both hear giggles coming from inside it. “Scorpius and Albus are made for eachother... Have no doupt about it. Scorpius is a shy gentle boy with a very sheltered upbringing due to his parents past and also being an only child, while Albus is a very extroverted and confident person who was raised to be free and do whatever he feels like it. What makes them different is what draws each person to the other.”, Rose said while looking at the tent in a very gentle but sad way, Lily noticed. “They are just meant to be together one way or the other, and the rest of us are just people that they may love or befriend regardless of their own relationship.”, Rose finished her sentence and turned to admire the castle again. Lily was temporarily confused. Rose spoke about her brother and Scorpius as if, somehow, sometime, made her feel uncomfortable... But why? They were always inseperable... Was it because of these two all along? She thought that they were all very good friends... It has always seemed like it,at least. Sure, Albus and Scorpous were always together and their friendship always insired her, but Rose made it seem like it them and no other person... Which is not true of course... Her, Adrianne and Hortansia were always welcome in their inner circle... “Did I make you feel sad, love?”, Rose turned to Lily and looked at her with all the sweetness of the world. This face right there, reminded her so much of her aunt coming to hug her when she was little and afraid of the thunder... “No, no... Not at all... I like talking with you... It feels like I am talking to an adult but at the same time equal, you know... James and Albus always talk to me as if I am a toddler...”, Lily answered. “Yeah, they do that sometimes...”, Lily laughed. “I am sorry for all that, it is just that I get very emotional when thinking about leaving Hogwarts.”

“Speaking of leaving Hogwarts soon, I an counting on you to watch out for Hortansia, right?”, Rose smiled. “I know she is doing perfectly fine without any help, but she always feels safer when family is close.” “You didn’t even need to say this out loud Rose.. Hortansia is like my sister! Like you are, too.. Don’t even mentiont that again!”, Lily smiled at her with warmth. “I feel a little bad that she didn’t come tonight, though..”, Rose said... “No, don’t even think about that! She loves sketching by the moonlight. She always does that when there is full moon.”, Lily reassured Rose. “Does she really does that here, too? I thought she only did that at home...”, Rose smirked... “Yeah, she does! Every time...”, Lily answered while smiling. “I really love her sketches.. We both agreed to have small tattoo one day made by her. You know, a sisterhood same tattoo... It was her idea.. And I think it’s really cute!”, Rose said proud of her talented little sister. “That’s a brilliant idea!”, Lily said in awe. She always wanted to have a tattoo but maybe when she gets a little older. James said that the older the better.. “Well, sounds like the boys have stopped fooling around! I think it’s time to get some sleep”, Rose said while getting up. “Are you coming?” “No, I think I want to enjoy the moonlight a little longer.”, Lily answered as she lied down in the rocky shore. “Ok, but don’t be late, ok? It’s getting cold out here!” “Ok, i’ll come in 10 minutes or so...” , Lily smiled as she closed her eyes “Ok then, goodnight Lily”, Rose said, as she disappeared behind the tent. “Goodnight!”

And just like that, she was alone again. She felt the moonlight on her face as her previous thoughts came back. This time though, she was a little troubled. Why was Rose telling all those things about the boys? They never seemed strange to her that way, she doesn’t really want to agree with her, but Rose knows them so much better! They ‘ve been together in Hogwarts for so many years before she came. They are also the same age... Lily was so confused... She always trusted Rose’s insight. She is very smart, but not like James or Albus smart... Rose is mature... Her brothers are very quick to understand a situation and to read right through people, but Rose does something more. She is not fooled by first impressions... She maturelly evaluates the situation and her conclusions and opinions are always far more deep and well-thought-out. In this case, she does want to listens on what she just told her, but if she does her instinct tells her that Scorpius is suddently out of reach... Up until some time ago, she thought things were pretty simple... But now, she suddently felt a huge weight in her stomach... What did Rose mean? Suddently she felt the moonlight gone. Puzzled, she opened her eyes.

“Hey there!”, Scorpius said calmly with a little smile on his face. “Were you asleep?” “Oh hi! Um, no no no, I was just daydreaming...”, Lily answered. He scared her standing like that with the moon behind him... “Aren’t you cold?” “Well, not really... This jacket is quite warm, surprisingly...” “How about taking a walk, then?”, Scorpius smiled and reached his hand for her. Lily took his hand and stood up. His face was so serene under the moonlight, his hair even more pale and glowy and his grey eyes even lighter and and more otherwordly. Scorpius was like an beautiful spitirual entity this evening and Lily was shaking from awe to his presence.

They walked by the shore, so as not to lose the moonlight and their path back to the tent. They started chatting about mundane matters while taking long pauses to enjoy their walk and the smell of the woods and lake. Lily was just happy to be near him. He took her hand and into the woods. Was that a move by his part? Was that a good moment for her to make her move? But what is a good move? What is she supposed to do? “Hey Lily?”, Scorpius asked, looking at her.. “Huh? Sorry I didn’t catch that..”, Lily said fully embarrassed. She really needs to stop sinking into her thoughts like that. “I asked, what were you talking about with Rose before? You both seemed so absorbed..”, Scorpius smirked and repeated his question. “Oh, well you know.. We mostly talked about her.. Rose expressed her anxities and her plans..”, she answered as discreetly as possible. “I didn’t know Rose had serious anxities aboout finishing school...”, Scorpius stared into the distance confused about his ability to connect with people he considers his friends. “Well, everyone has, right... I bet you do, too.. Even though some of them are burried very well, I think we all have..”, Lily looked at him. “Hah, you definately are all grown up talking so maturely...”, Scorpius answered trying to avoid the attention.. He does very well have those, and he hoped that they were burried as well as Lily hypothesized. “What about you, then... What are your anxities?”, he asked her trying to turn the tables. “Hah, well I don’t know... I thing my main concern is not hurting the people I love..”, Lily answered trying to hide her main one, which is trying to understand if she should confess her feelings or not... But she did gave a true answer, either way. She does fear hurting her loved ones, and she would do anything to not do that. Even if that meant that she might need to bear some hurt herself. “What about you, though?”, she asked knowing very well that he tried to dodge the subject earlier. “Me?”, he turnedd and looked at her intrigued. “Yes you..”, Lily answered very decisively. “Hah, I am not avoiding the question, am I? Well, I don’t know.. To tell you the truth I have never not have anxitites and concerns... You have to understand my upbringing was quite protective and even sometimes sheltered... My father is a very kind and loving dad, but he never talks about his past. Which, as you know, is the past that it is... When the conversation goes there, he just stops talking... As if he hasn’t accept it or hasn’t come to terms with it properly, even after all these years... And my mother is very protective of him, he always defence him when I ask him to tell me... I guess, he is afraid of giving me the wrong paradigm... So, I don’t know, even if I do notice that, I cannot avoid noticing that this behavior has creeped into mine. I am constantly trying bury things deep down but because I know that this is not a solution, I never bury them as deep and they are always in the surface trying to come out... But at the same time I don’t really let them...” Lily was looking at him fascinated. She never knew anything of what he just shared... Does Rose know all that? Does Albus? But what are all those sentiments trying to come out? Is it his feelings abour her? Or something else? “So, what is it?”, she asked surprised by her own courage. “What’s what?”, he asked her afraid of her reading right through him. “You know... All those things that you are trying to bury...” Scorpius was so afraid.. She knows! She knew all along! How does he tell her? He looked at her decisively... Well, if this is the moment to do so, he might as well go for it... He took a deep breath, and...

“Wait!”, Scorpius grabbed her arm and stopped walking abruptly. “What is it?”, Lily said surprised. “Didn’t you hear that? There is someone in the woods! We are not alone... Stay quiet!”, Scorpius said and tried to walk slowly as to detect if indeed someone else is there. These camping nights in the woods were always dangerous! They were always very carefull not to get caught. They would rarely leave the tent for long walks without the cloak... But now... He got so distracted by Lily that he completely forgot to take it with him.. He always really liked Lily, as his best friend’s little sister, but now things were different.. He feels a different kind of fondness now.. He likes talking to her, he feels calm... They walked quietly for a while, alarmed as to hide quickly if they detect anything... But their luck this time was not there...

As they were carefully walking, they suddently noticed some light. They stopped walking! And there they were... Three students wearing black cloaks and some bizarre wolf masks. They couldn’t hide this time... They were right in front of them... Neither of them could recognize who these students were... One of them was holding a shovel, the other one a package and the third one, the shorter one was looking at them, with their piercing light green eyes! They were certainly frightening! They noticed Lily and Scorpius right away! The rest of them finished their job and turned to Lily and Scorpius too! “Oh look! It’s young Bellatrix and handsome Voldemort! Look at them what a cute couple they are!”, the person with the pagkage said, laughing! “Hahaha!!! They could even have a cute evil child together someday!”, the person with the shovel said laughing, too “Well, it’s a pitty they are in the wrong side this time around....”, the first person continued The student with the piercing green eyes was standing there quietly still looking at them and smirking... “What is this garbage you are talking about? What is this?”, Scorpius said evidently bothered by their remarks but mostly confused of how confidently these people didn’t try to hide or run away...

“Well that’s obvious Malfoy, isn’t it?”, the person with the piercing green eyes said, smirking “What is?”, Scorpius asked confused and suddently having the worst feeling about this... Is that student...? “Yes, you handsome smart boy... I am what you just thought I am... And as for the other thing, the obvious reason why we really don’t care about you happening to bump into us is because if you say anyhting to the professors you are practically admiting your own mischiefs... And here lies the catch.. You don’t know who we are, but we certainly do know who you are! So keep your pretty little mouth shut and we are happy to cover for you and your Bellatrix impersonator girlfriend...” “You are an idiot!”, Lily said angrily “Well maybe, but so are you for walking around like that with no cover...”, the green-eyed student said... “So? Are we clear? It’s a win-win situation... You never saw us, and neither did we... Goodnight children..”

And just like that, still confident and smirking, they all turned around and started walking to the forest. They noticed two more wolf-masked students waiting for them. And they didn’t even seem to hurry all that much... This is what baffled Scorpius the most! Walking all giggling and laughing and not even trying to hide or be discreet... “See you in Halloween!” One of the taller students said laughing while Scorpius and Lily stood there watching them disappear into the woods... “What did they mean? What did you understand about them?”, Lily said quietly “I think the person who was talking is a Legilimens... You know, being able to hear people’s thoughts”, Scorpius said while still staring at their shadows in the distance. “Who are they?”, Lily asked “I have no idea... Besides the person with the green eyes and I think I saw deep wine red hair, I didn’t even notice anything else that could lead us to the others... The point is who they are, though, but what were they doing.. And what did they mean by that Halloween thing?”, Scorpius answered... “I think we should head back and try to get some sleep... Tomorrow morning we can discuss it further with Rose and Albus”, Lily said They started walking back quietly... This time, noone was talking... They were both deep into their thoughts. Scorpius wass still thinking about their earlier conversation, besides what happened... Lily, on the other hand, was thinking of what the wolf-masked students said... They called her Bellatrix, they implied that she looked like her... But why? Bellatrix almost killed her mother... Where did they see the comparison? Is it because of her wearing black clothes and gothy accessories? This is stupid, Lily thought. They kept on walking quietly... The moon was leading their way as if to help them. When they reached the tent they both went straight to bed bearly even exchanging any words. Scorpius closed his eyes, but Lily was still looking at him. What was it that he wanted to say to her earlier? And does this connect with what Rose told her earlier?

The story of a flower

H used to hate her freckles. Tiny little specks of colour splattered all over her face an her body. They always reminded her of how much she looks like her dad and not her mom. Her mother have them too, but not like her father. People would call her by her dad’s name when younger for fun, to point out how much they look like each other and how cute this is... She never really blamed or disliked him for that, she just really wanted to look like a different person.

It wasn’t the resemblance that bothered her though... She loves her dad. Besides, calling the kids by their parents names when younger to insinuate how much they look like them was quite frequent in her big family. Both her older cousins had the same fate with their father; But why did it botherd her so much?

Her family is huge. She especially loved the summers because everyone would gather at their grandparents’ for at least 2 weeks. She loved it! Lots of cousins running around playing and screaming. Sure, they were not allowed to use magic but they would secretly hide from the parents and try out some stuff. The older ones would always show them new tricks and especially after starting to join Hogwarts. One time their grandfather caught them and he laughed proudly. She remembers that he started shedding some tears but no one else remembers that... But she could swear she saw it...

She especially loved her older cousin. She loved him maybe as much as her sister. She was his protégée. He would always share secrets with her under the bedsheets long past bed time. He would always tell her the new spells he learned at school and would give her advice for when her time would come. He was the first one to talk to about the houses in Hogwarts. After her sister was sorted in Ravenclaw and her other cousin in Slytherin, she started fearing that she would not be sorted in Gryffindor either. Everyone anticipated for the kids to be sorted in Gryffindor, since there was a huge tradition with Gryffindor in their family. But everything changed with them. And then she started fearing about not sleeping next to her family at night. That Cristmas holiday, she told her cousin about it and that she had it for granted that she would sleep closely to him or her sister so that they could protect her if she had any bad dreams. He laughed in the most sweet way possible and hugged her.

“I’m pretty sure you will be sorted in Gryffindor don’t worry...”, he said

“But how do you know? We said the same for everyone else and now what?”, 10year old H answered.

“The thing is though, that after entering Hogwarts and understanding how things work, I personally never anticipated for them to be sorted in Gryffindor.. I was sad that I would not play Quidditch in the same team as my brother, sure, but he does indeed belong to Slytherin. And the same goes for your sister.. She does indeed belong to Ravenclaw... Even your mom did, i think, but that’s another story. But you are different that them.. You are truly brave.. You haven’t realised it yet but you are...”

She felt better at that time and she slept very well... For once she didn’t have any nightmares that night. But then she started thinking about it... But why? Why was she brave? And how can you tell from an 10 year old kid that they are brave...

The summer before entering Hogwarts she realised what her cousin was talking about. It all came together. Being annoyed by the resemblance to her dad, relatives calling her by his name, the nightmares... And then for the first time, she expressed to her mom something that never made sense to her.

It was around June. Her sister and cousins had not yet come back from Hogwarts. It was Saturday. She remembers because her mom wasn’t at work. She was home cooking, while she was there at the kitchen with her drawing. Her dad was not there... She doesn’t remember why.. Maybe something to do with his job... The sun was very bright and their home was full of light. She, as always, was drawing her mother’s colourful plants.

“Mom, why am I not named after a flower?”, she asked while finishing the small lavenders at her drawing paper.

“What do you mean, sweetheart?”, her mother turned to her quite confused..

“Well, you know... Both Lily and Rose are named after flowers, right? Why not me?”

“Because, you are a bo...”, Hermione stopped her phrase almost scared. But not scared of what H meant, but scared that she would harm her own child... “What do you mean by that, love? James and Albus are not named after flowers...”, she said smiling while she approached her and holded her little hands gently.

“Well, yes I know that... But, I am not like them... I am like Lilly and Rose... I am like my sister, right?”, H answered.

Hermione looked at her child with all the love she has ever felt for anyone and smiled at her.

“Yes love, your are like them”, she said and hugged her.

That night H couldn’t sleep. She got up and left her room. At first she went to Rose’s room and laid down on her bed. She often did this when Rose was away at Hogwarts. Her room calmed her. It was like she was there hugging her and reassuring her that the nightmare was only a bad dream and nothing else. But even then she couldn’t sleep.

She got up again and decided to go to her parents’ room to sleep with them like how she would snuggle in between them when she was a little kid. As she was approaching the room she saw the light turned on and she heard someone crying soflty. When she finally approached the half opened door she saw her mother crying and her dad holding her compassionately.

“It’s ok, we love her and she knows that! Everything will be fine! As long as she has us by her side everything will be fine!”, her dad said

“No, it’s not that easy... You don’t understand! The Wizarding World is sooo closed minded and ignorant! I had to fight for elves rights only recently in the ministry! We had to fight for blood purity only 20years ago Ron! You know I love our world but muggles are far ahead in those things! James and his friends were ridiculed when they joined Wizarding Pride in Hogsmeade! And even that only happened 5 years ago! And let’s not start thinking about the absence of laws relevant to these matters! They will make her life a living hell!”, Hermione said in pure agony still not able to hold her tears...

Ron was looking at her troubled, realizing how true everything that Hermione said was true. Memories of his, words, jokes, weird looks... Everything... The wizarding world was extremely ignorant in those matters... Even he was, before spending time traveling in the muggle world with Hermione. She was right... Things were getting a little better and that’s all thanks to new muggle-born kids entering the community, but still... Maybe for gay people sure, but not for trans... And especially not for trans kids like H.

“What are we going to do?”, he said with a sad face while his eyes were beginning to tear up.

“I trust no one here.. Believe it or not... I am going to London first thing on Monday... I’ll start making calls tomorrow morning in case we know any specialist in London already familliar with our world... If not, then I don’t care even if I am arrested for accidentally revealing myself... Right now we have no time searching if anything like that is possible the magical way... I don’t trust it... I am going back to where I am more familiar with...”, she answerded, and for the first time H saw an unfamiliar determination in her mother’s eyes... Her mother was always driven and vigorous in what she wanted to do, but this time was different. "And it's not just that... We also need to find a way even for us.. For the whole family. We need to talk to your parents, your siblings... Everyone.. This is not going to be easy you know...", she continued.

“I know. I think Rose is already there... Long before H talked... The same goes for James, too. I think the bigger part will be my parents. They will need some time but I think they will understand and accept the situation.”, Ron said and looked at Hermione with love and realisation. “But either way, we will make it! We will make it together, as we always did! And as for the laws you mentioned, that means we have a new fight ahead of us! But we will make it! Things will change no matter what! There are already people out there talking about these matters. Ideas are already been pushed forward... We will help to make the change happen!”, her dad answered equally determined.

She want back to her sister’s bed feeling sad but happy at the same time... Sad because she couldn’t understand what the problem was and because she saw for the first time her mother crying and even almost her dad; but still happy, because she felt more loved than any other day, even though they didn’t tell her anything, they didn’t even realise that she was listening to them. She laid down under her floral sheets and looked outside the window. Hugging her purple teddy bear, she peacefully fall asleep while gazzing at all the hortensias, roses and azaleas on the ledge.

The next few days were busy. Her parents were all over the place and they often called her grandparents to take care of her while away for business. At first they acted a liitle strange for some reason she could not understand... Although she was finally happy to hear them call her H and not by her birth name. After around 10 days or maybe 2 weeks, her mom told her that they would go to London together.

And so they did. She always loved going to the muggle world. Grandpa always talked about how fascinating muggles are, her mom was muggle born and even uncle Harry used to live there when he was younger. Her, James and Lily would have the best time exploring the muggle world.

She was so excited! Her mom said that they would visit a friend of her’s and have a picnic outside in the sun. She wore her favorite pink curduroy trousers which Rose gave her and her favorite little backpack, on which she had embroidered litlle lavenders with her grandma.

The day was amazing and it passed without her realizing it. They had rasberry juice and fruit salad. They discussed a lot of fascinating things and she really liked her mother’s friend. He was a doctor and he was very sweet and funny. He even gave her a little bracelet which he made with seashells that he had gathered from his travels around the mediterranean.

On the way home her mom picked some pretty flowers for her.

“Did you have a good time today?”

“Yeah! It was really nice actually! And your friend was really funny! I really liked him!”, H answered with a calm smile on her face.

“That’s really great to hear, you know. We will be seeing him in the future for quite some time, if that’s ok with you”, Hermione smiled back relieved that she made a good choice. Luna is always trustworthy in those matters.

“So, about the conversation we had earlier... Does that mean I can have a flower name too?”, H turned to her mother full of anticipation.

“Of course! This is the first thing we will take care of!”, Hermione answered happily. “You can pick any name you like, sweetheart! At any time. No rush.”, she said as she caressed her little hand lovingly.

The following September she boarded the Hogwarts Express holding hands with James and Rose. They sat side by side in the cabin with the rest of her cousins and she didn’t even realise when they had arrived. This was the first day that she met so many new people, which she loved because she got to introduce herself with her beautiful flower name.

And then, it was time for the sorting ceremony. She was quite afraid, but then she remembered what James told her last year. Besides, Weasleys nowadays were sorted all over, not ony Gryffindor, which meant that even if she was not sorted where she wanted, she would at least be with family.

“Hortensia Granger-Weasley”, the professor announced and she immediately rushed to the stool while looking at Rose, who was looking at her nearly crying of how proud she was of her little sister.

“Hah! We have the younger Granger-Weasley! Hmmm!!! The decision is quite clear, yees! I think GRYFFINDOR will learn so much from you and your bravery!”, the hat yelled and she ran straight to James’ open arms.

Years later and she eventually came to terms with her freckles. Nowadays she loves the fact that she looks like her dad, whom she objectively finds quite handsome. Nowadays she knows why she hated the freckles in the first place, and the resemblance, and the fact that everyone called her “Little Ron”.

Thanks to her parents and the new found community of people like her, which in a way started considering a second family, though, she can be the girl she is. It wasn’t without struggles, however. It took her parents’ and uncle’s power fuelled by a huge wave of protests of queer wizarding people to pass new bills. And she was lucky that her family is so influential. During the time that her mother was raging in the ministry trying to find files that she could use, she found a lot! Suggestions for equality bills, for gender recognition laws, for abolition of gender dormitories in Hogwarts, complaints of mistreatment of younger queer wizards, accusations of violence and other similar records. Nothing had passed. The wizarding community in the U.K was so conservative in those issues that had even caused individuals or even whole wizarding families to move somewhere else, more friendly and accepting of their loved ones. Even gay people of power (most of them closeted) kept their mouth shut publically so that they would not lose their influence. And that was sad to say the least, her parents thought, especially considering the impact their voice could have in the wizarding community.

The wizarding world was finally changing, but not without important losses. It took so many years but queer wizarding people could finally start to breath more freely. The fight was not over, but at least they had hope. And hope gave them strength to keep on fighting!

P.S.: The idea for a trans character in my fanfiction pieces was formed when J.K.Rowling first retweeted some problematic stuff, back in December. I wanted to right it back then, but hey.. laziness... hehe... I always wanted to implement more queer characters (Adrianne is one) but I never had clear ideas of who and how.

If you think that what i did is offensive to the source material, truly, i don’t care. If you did not like it just leave. This is not the fanfic for you. I am not here to debate trans issues with people who don’t get it. All I want is to celebrate LGBTQIA+ people, and i will be happy to discuss with queer people who have thoughts. 🦋💖

As for the whole J.K.Rowling recent story, i have this to say. The wizarding world does not belong to J.K.Rowling anymore! It belongs to everyone! The Harry Potter universe is so alive because of the fans and no one else! The fans preserve the spark with their art and fanfiction! And this is evident, since no one listens to what Rowling says anymore about the lore! The wizarding world was made quite conservative due to its author but the acceptance, inclusivity and change comes from the fans. We are the ones who wrote fanfics about gay couples and characters of colour, we are the ones that imagined ourselves in the story, not J.K. . Wizarding World is not Rowling’s anymore, it’s ours! So no matter what she says and what she believes we will continue to do what we do best! Expand the boundaries of the consrvative world she had once created and make it fully our own.

Afternoon Forest Breeze

The week was finally ending… Everyone was starting to relax and calm down from the weekly tension. And that was exactly what Lily and Adrianne were doing.. Their favourite way to unwind would be to take a walk in the forest and then lay down under the trees to loosen up. The smell of the trees, the sounds of the birds, the light picking throught the orange leaves… The whole ambience was perfect for a Friday afternoon after class…

Lily would usually accompany these moments with a book and Adrianne with some of her muggle herbs and weeds… Adrianne’s ways always fascinated Lily, who shared her grandefather’s Arthur interest for the muggle world. They started hanging out around the second year. She was always a very bizarre girl, in the best way possible.. Always wearing colourful clothes made by her lovely mom and aunt, whose shop Lily had visited multple times since befriending her. She reminded her a lot of Luna, but in a more interesting way… She was pretty much one of the strange muggle kids in her year, which made her a perfect match for Luna who made friends quite difficult and a lot of people considered her rather remote for a Potter.

“Soo, tomorrow it’s Saturday..”, Adrianne said all knowingly…

“Yeah, so…?”, Lily answered very knowing very well the conversation which was about to begin.

“So..? So, what are you going to do? I mean, we’ve been discussing about it very little this whole week.. That is really not the Lily I know of… You know, the one who doesn’t stop talking when it comes to Scorpius..”

“Haha, yeah i know.. But honestly i really don’t know what even to discuss… I mean, even to myself… I don’t even know if i’m even going… Who am i kidding, i’m clearly going.. But what will I do? I can’t talk to him… Not in front of Albus and Rose anyway…”

“Why not? I’m not saying making your move literally in front of them, but you know… Maybe you could accidentaly be just the two of you…”, Adrianne said while smirking.

“I’m not so sure about it… I don’t know… I mean, even if i could, I don’t think he is attracted to me the way I am to him.. I think he mostly sees me as his little sister…” Lily said…

“It doesn’t seem like it though… Judging by his attitude lately, i’d say Mr.Malfoy feels the same way as you, but like you he doesn’t know how to process fancying the little sister of his longtime best friend…”

Adrianne magically was always able to understand those situations far better than Lily… “It seems quiet logical what she says”, Lily thought…

“Oh, and speaking of the devil..”, Adrianne said while looking up her shoulder..

“Hello Ladies!!!”, a young man’ voice poped out before she could even finish her sentence.

Adrianne looked immediately towards Lily in a very meaningful way and her heart started racing… Two slim figures started uproaching them while giggling… Their faces could not be recognised from that far but they could both figure out who they were solely with every sound of footsteps sloppily going down the hill while stamping on the leaves in the ground.

“We knew you two loners would be here! I’m beginning to think that you girls are snobs… You never talk to anyone and you always disappear after class”, Albus said with his usual smirk and funny cocky voice. “I mean, unless if something else is going on between you two…!”

“Merlin’s beard Albus! You are such an idiot!”, Lily said clearly annoyed… “And that’s what you get for saying to your older brother your secrets…”, she thought while clearly thinking how embarassed poor Adrianne would be right now… That’s it then.. No more secrets for Albus… He is her brother and she clearly loves him but sometimes he can be such an arse… Fortunately Adrianne didn’t seem bothered by him.. Afterall, she became used to his humour quite quickly…

“Sooo, are we allowed in your little gathering?” Albus asked while he and Scorpius looked down towards Lily and Adrianne.

“Sure you can”, Adrianne answered smiling. She knew exactly what Albus meant by what he said and she knew that Lily had told him but she wasn’t really bother by it… It was a long time ago and honestly she thought it was as funny as it is stupid…

“Well thank you my love! Oh, what is it that you have over there? I think I might need some of this muggle magic of yours to unwind”, Albus said smiling sweet towards Adrianne while she passed him the cigarette. He really enjoyes her company and he is glad that Lily hangs out with her.. She is clearly more outgoing than her and this has helped little shy Lily a lot. They would always joke around and flirt for fun but Albus would always look at Adrianne as his friend.

They both took of their cloaks and their green Slytherin ties and laid down on the grass. Albus smoked a little of Adrianne’s weed and then took a deep breath of content. He could finally relax.. This whole week was mad with all the studying and practicing for Quidditch. He is a perfectionist and a very ambitious young man afterall. It was still early for practice, he was very well aware, but with him finally becoming Captain, he had to make sure if everyone was still as good as he remembered from last year. He was determined to form the best Slytherin House Team for the Quidditch Cup, since it was his last year and definately wanted to make an impact. And if that meant trying out new members for already taken spots, he would do it! And this is why he has exausted Scorpius out in the practice sessions.. He does not want to kick his best friend off the team. He is talented, clearly, and he wants him with him. They have been best friends since day one, and he wants to win this year’s cup as a Captain alongside his best friend! Their last Hogwarts Quidditch House Cup.

Quidditch is very important for him and he is actually thinking about pursuing it professionally after school for some years now. Besides, that was the deal with his parents. School first and making sure all the possibilities are made known to him and then finalizing his decision. Having his mom a former professional player meant a great deal of support, but his dad wanted for him to be absolutely sure, with whom Albus agreed. James had the same fantasy when 14 years old and he ended up pursuing traveling for research purposes.. So, that is a good plan, although he knows that his decision is made. And fortunately he knows that both Harry and Ginny support him.

“So, Lily, how is herbology going? Did you make any progress?”, Scorpius turned to Lily and asked with his usual sweet smile.

“Um, yeah… a little… It’s really hard this year and we have just started… I really don’t know how James excelled in it…”, Lily answered while she started to feel like blushing.

“I didn’n know you struggle with it”, Albus said clearly looking at both of them suspiciously. “James is not the only Potter good in Herbology you know, i can help you out”

“Well shite..” Lily though to herself.. Why are her brothers so smart? They can always understand her right through!

“Well you know, we just bumped into eachother the other day and I told him all about it.. You know.. Nothing special…” Lily answered while feeling like her breath was leaving her body slowly.

“Yeah, you know, casual chat..” Scorpius also said awkwardly.

“Hahaha you both need to calm down! I was just joking.. Merlin’s beard…”, Albus said smirking to dissolve the tension.. Yeap, he was finally sure.. They fancy eachother! He knew it from the moment he caught Scorpius looking at Lily with admiration in the summer when she walked down the stairs wearing a new fairytale like purple tulle dress.. He only had to make sure, and this litle tiny experiment just told him everything!

“Soo,..” Albus continues satisfied with his discovery, “Adrianne, are you joining us tomorrow night? The moon will look spectacular from the forest by the lake”

“Hahaha, uum nop! I am really not risking my Hogsmead Halloween trip for this! I’d love to, you know i would, but honestly I am not a Potter to pull your tricks my love”, Adrianne answered.

“What Potter tricks?”, Albus said almost like he didn’t understand

“You know, the whole dissappearing without anyone noticing it.. You both do it my Slytherin friends and so did James! And don’t get me started on showing up on Hogsmead when actually not being allowed to go due to your usual mischieves! James was notorius for it! There was no real detention for him! You know, James is not here anymore to take us with him and magically help us skip detention.. Soo, that’s a big no no from me.. I’ll be in my room preparing my clothes for Halloween…”

“Well, you know.. You have a point.. I know.. James is not here to get us out of Hogwarts while in detention, BUT this is!”, Albus said with an all meaningfull look while pulling out of his bag an old folded piece of paper…

“Shite, Albus are we really doing this? More people knowing, more dangerous it will be for people to find out!” Scorpius said surprised by his friend for doing this!

“What is that?” both Lily and Adrianne said at the same time completely confused..

“I mean, I knew about the cloak, and by the way it’s completely unfair that I don’t get a turn on it until you graduate, but this? What is this?”, Lily said..

“This my friends, is the reason of our Success! It’s a map that shows all of the castle and everyone’s whereabouts at any given moment.. And, it also shows secret passages to Hogsmead from Hogwarts! We can even go now if you want” Albus said with his usual lovingly proud maner.

“What? Who made this? And where did you find it?”, Lily continued being utterly surprised.

“Our grandfather made it with his friends while they were students here.. You know, Sirius and Remus, Teddy’s dad” Albus answered..

“Yeah yeah… I get it… merlin’s beard! That’s how James did it! And he never told us anything! I’ll kill him! But where did he get it?”

“In dad’s office… I don’t know where exactely… I guess dad has obviously found out by now but what is he going to say? He did the same in our age!”

“I cannot believe this! Albus that’s amazing!”, Adrianne said completely astonished! She knew that the Wizarding World will never cease to amaze her, but everytime she finds out something new it feels like the first time all over again.

“So, what do you say? Do you want to go for a walk in the village?”, Scorpius said all smiling meaningfully…
