If you think about it garbage and happy show each other feelings more with touching and hugging that with words, the closest they are the more they keep having a supportive touch/grab/hug, hands over shoulders, small hugs, full mushy hugs.

After they drift apart the only contact they had was negative, direct fighting and pushing each other away.

Their handshaking at the end of S02 E07 was the first mutual supportive affective touch, and literally, right after it, they just tease and flirt with each other!

I do not think they will be telling each other mushy nicknames 24/7, I THINK they will be hugging and holding each other a lot if they date

Yessss! I never really thought about the way the touching shifted before, but this is really interesting to think about.

I really like the idea of them only like playfully calling each other Captain. “Yes, Captain.” “Whatever you say Captain.” Also maybe Happy will keep calling him “Garb” even when they’re dating. They’d probably be more casual while dating, maybe other dogs wouldn’t even realize they’re dating at first.

Wait a minute... Ed is the Pluto's Ambassador (I mean, we know he's not, but let's just play into it). An Ambassador is, by definition, a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. So... shouldn't Ed technically be doing the negotiations and promoting to aliens why they should allow humans to enhabit their planet? He is, by his position title, supposed to be a representative of the M-Bark and their cause. Is Ed just that shit at his job that everyone was like "Screw it, we'll do it ourselves."? And if so, why is he even on the Pluto, or any team for that matter? We know why HE chooses to go on mission, but why do the rest of the team put up with him? Shouldn't he have gotten kicked off by now? Wouldn't it benefit them more to have an ACTUAL Ambassador on their team? I understand Garbage not seeing it, but Stella could have, and possibly should have, kicked Ed to the curb when she had the chance.

The in-character reason is that the Pluto loves him despite his flaws and don't want him fired, but the logical reason is that he is EVEN MORE trouble if allowed on the M-Bark for long periods of time (See: episode two) and it's just easier to let him keep the cushy job so he doesn't end up dragging pirates and shit to the base by doing illegal gambling in the basement.

Okay, okay, Dog in Space prompt number 2!! I really like the idea of Ed being like an uncle to Nomi, like the fun uncle that teaches her how to lock-pick and how to 'case a joint' (is that the phrase?), much to Stella's chagrin. Maybe you can do something with that? Maybe Stella catches Ed teaching Nomi how to crack a safe or something like that lol... Or something fluffy where Nomi calls him uncle Ed and he reacts to it. I kinda like the idea that his mind just halts because being a friend is one thing, but family is so different... how did he get to this moment in his life? ... This is so long and rambly, sorry, i just love this show and its characters

It really is a damn shame that the humans got puppies involved in all of this. Nomi is a spunky little thing, Ed knows, but she's still a puppy. Being here means long hours, near-death experiences, and a lot of trauma.

For Nomi, it's the long hours Ed worries about most. Nomi can tear herself out of the guts of an alien with her teeth and come out with little mental scarring. But bedtimes are important for kids, or so he’s been told, and after slamming into multiple asteroids because she was “just rubbing her eyes, geez” Ed thinks they might have a point.

“Alright,” he decided, picking her up by her wiggling midsection. “Bed time.”

“What? C’mon!” Nomi whined. “You’re supposed to be the cool Uncle!”

Ed feels something warm in his chest. It’d been an unspoken agreement on board to keep the atmosphere as family oriented as possible when they first met Nomi- hoping to give her the puppyhood that genetic experimentation tends to squash out like a bug- and it was nice to see it was working.

(It also makes it easier to snag a few expensive items from Nomi’s room, but that’s a problem for well-rested Ed and an equally well-rested and homicidal Stella.)

Ed casually pressed the auto-pilot button. They weren’t far from the Embark anyway. “Can’t be cool Uncle with a concussion, kiddo.”

“But I don’t wanna! I like looking at the stars!”

“Can do,” he said, flopping back into his own chair. Ed tended to sleep in his chair anyway. All of them did. Going from adrenaline to safety tended to conk anyone out for a couple of hours. Holding Nomi just had the added benefit of a puppy-shaped blanket. 

Nomi sighed, defeated, and curled up in his lap like a human child. Of all of them, Nomi clearly showed the least connection to her dog side. Side effect of being a puppy, he supposed. Sometimes it was easy to forget she wasn’t just some human child with fake ears.

“Wake me up in five minutes?” she prompted, already slurring.

“Of course,” Ed promised, having no intentions of doing so. “G’night, kiddo.”

“Night night...” Her little head drooped. “...Uncle Ed.”

I really hope the new season of Dogs in Space encourages more people to make video edits... There’s not a lot out there and edits are usually how I find new music -also they’re just really cool to watch. If I had some kind of editing software, I’d probably make a Happy x Garbage edit lol

S2E07 in the eyes of a Happy x Garbage shipper:

I've shipped this since season one so it was fun to write this. Also this has spoilers so go watch the new season first. This is not some polished analysis meant to be critiqued, this is just me having fun writing about one of my fave episodes and ships. I'm too tired to edit this again so please ignore any typos.

For this I'm gonna start with mentioning how sweet past Garbage and Happy's interactions have been in the flashbacks before the friendship starts to crumble. The animators made it so clear how close they are with Happy always reaching to touch Garbage whether just to be close to him or to reassure him and him calling Garbage 'Garb', whether that is to shorten it or to avoid pushing negative connotations on his friend is up to interpretation. Happy even opens up to the corgi about his owner and the bell training he will always have to live with. Garbage is so sweet in return, reaching for Happy just as much as the poodle does for him, helping him up after a bell rings, and asking Happy to teach him to tango as a way to put a positive spin on the bell training (which is the sweetest thing but also the gayest thing.)

In the PRATS break room after Happy accidentally embarrassed Garbage by telling the other future captains about the corgi's low scores, Garbage and Happy almost look longingly at each other. This is the scene that really first stood out to me as romantic or romantic adjacent (I’m not sure what to call pining.) It could really just be just both dogs feeling bad about their past interaction but… meeting each other's gaze across a room while soft, sad music plays in the background? Sounds hella gay to me -‘that moment when you accidentally hurt your crush and best friend’ kind of vibes.

Later Happy finds Garbage sitting on the floor in the hallway and they have this sad moment with Garbage refusing to look at him until Garbage stands up. What I really like about this scene is not the way the shadows on the two are done or how Garbage moving to one side of the hallway could represent the distance growing between them, it's not even Happy's animation though all three are so amazing to me. It's when Garbage asks Happy to train him, Happy is reluctant to agree but gives in any way due to love for his friend and a little, hopefully unintentional, manipulation from Garbage. To me that feels like someone helping out their crush even if it could backfire on them. Garbage is so happy by his agreement that he actually presses close to Happy and it's the cutest thing. I think it's the closest the two get to each other in this episode.

After we get to see how Happy and Garbage’s friendship ended, we’re back in the present where the group now has to fight the ice aliens. Here we get to see Happy and Garbage fighting together. I really enjoyed seeing Garbage step in to cover Happy’s ears so the poodle could fight. It was such a cool scene, getting to see the two work as a team made me really happy. The smile Garbage has and the small nod Happy gives to him really makes the scene complete and helps transition to the next.

As they're getting ready to leave the planet, Happy and Garbage finally reconcile. They shake paws and do a little flirting. One could say it’s banter but it felt like flirting to me -it had a bit of a "Did you jump into fire for me?" kind of tone if you will. Stella literally had to shout at them to get them to stop or they would've probably kept going. Now, I'm gonna just say… if the animators didn't want this to come off romantic (assuming I'm just getting gay vibes from nothing), why did they make Happy and Garbage do the 'look at the other and then look away when the other looks back' trope? Garbage catches Happy towards the end of his look and smiles one of his softer smiles. It just feels too on the nose for it not to be romantic or possibly hint towards past (or future) romantic feelings. The looks feel too longing and sad like they're only now realizing what they've missed out on.

This episode was everything I ever wanted for a Happy and Garbage reconciliation. If we get another season, I hope we get more scenes with these two whether its romantic or not. They’re my favorite characters.

Happy wagging his tail at least once. I want genuine happiness from him, not smug satisfaction.

Venus crew's humans/owners (mainly Happy's because I have to see if they fit my headcanon fhkfjhgjfg)

An episode showing Kira's return to Earth

I think thats all I have for now. I want a lot but I think no matter what happens in this season, I'll enjoy it.

I'm struggling to accept that I had already watched the finale... I just have so many mixed feelings about it. I think I'm disappointed? It gave me a lot of good things, like the time skip i wanted but... I feel like it wasn't... great? I've loved this show since the start so having the finale just leave me feeling whatever I am feeling just... sucks. I don't know. I'll try to rewatch it when I can, I just need to process right now.
