There is something very insulting about saying my name verbally to someone and them still calling me the wrong name until I explain to them the masculinised version of my name. Idk it’s also hard to talk about having a name that is technically ethnic while being white which doesn’t fit into the modern discourse about ethnicity but it really sucks that people I have worked with for nearly two years keep getting my name wrong because it isn’t anglicised!! I just want people to call me my actual name, you know?

I’m into GC fandom analysis, and I recently read an insight on Ovarit that I thought radblr might be interested in. Mainstream tumblr obviously sexualizes male characters, but before they sexualize him, they first “feminize” him. They call him terms that were originally coined to degrade women like: “lil bitch”, “dumb whore”, “serves cunt”, “snatched waist”, “breedable hips”, “he’s so babygirl”, “I wanna get him pregnant”, and refer to his pecs as “tits”. But when they find a female character attractive, they “masculinize” her by calling her “daddy” and “king”, “she has husband energy”, “she’s so boyfriend”, “I want her to impregnate me”. The masculine terms they use for women are meant to convey power and dominance, while the feminine terms they use for men are meant to degrade and belittle. Calling a female character you respect “queen” is now out of vogue. They can’t respect a female character unless they divorce her from everything female, and they can’t degrade a male character unless they divorce him from everything male. Misogyny is baked into words like “whore” even when a man is being called one, and respect is baked into words like “king” even when a woman is being called one. Just because they swapped who’s being called what doesn’t mean they’ve challenged stereotypes, because they still think feminine=sexual object and masculine=powerful and revered.
The language of popular fandom always bothered me, but aside from it just being crude, I couldn’t put my finger on why. Now I know what BOTHERS me is when people can’t divorce femininity from degradation. If they want to thirst over male characters, I wouldn’t mind if they used more gender-neutral terms like “sexy”, “fine”, “fit”, “gorgeous” rather than terms that affirm the idea that being seen as female is degrading. It also made me realize that male-exclusive objectifying language doesn’t exist. Like, we don’t call men “sperm factory” or “dildo on legs” when we find them sexually attractive. Nor would we want to, because funny enough, most women would feel creepy about it. So it’s okay to call men by dehumanizing feminine terms, because it doesn’t actually dehumanize men, it dehumanizes FEMININITY. But god forbid you dehumanize MASCULINITY by implying that being masculine is what makes someone an object.
i feel like i'm the only one uncomfortable with how popular the word "twink" has become just to describe a dude who's vaguely thin.... this is interesting analysis for sure, i think it's an attempt at the so-called female gaze, an attempt to treat men as sex objects, but ultimately it just repurposes and imo reinforces the dehumanization of women. when you call a (usually fictional) man a breedable whore, you're saying that being fucked and being impregnated is degrading. okay, in the real world, who are the class of people that are actually fucked and impregnated? by extension this rhetoric is also homophobic bc once again the one who is fucked must be female.
on the other side of the coin it's "please step on me" so the two genders are sexually dominant/commits sexual violence (positive) and sexually submissive/recipient of sexual violence. gee, i sure hope there are no real-world parallels here.

You always wanted to be a Healer. Unfortunately, your dad was an Necromancer and your mother a Demon Summoner. So your healing was a bit… unconventional to say the least.
