I feel like, instead of 44 minute episodes, each episode should be a lifetime long.

Hey, so, quick reminder. In the first season, episodes featuring Willow or Gus getting things to do throughout the episode counted to 9 while Amity got 7.
In season 2? 4 episodes featuring Willow and Gus getting things to do. Amity on the other hand? 11. Oh, but don’t worry. There’s one more member of the main cast that isn’t the main three.
His addition was very sudden, but he got 8. Looking at episodes that feature either him or Amity doing things, you get 13.
He and Amity got triple what Willow and Gus got in season 2. Do not tell me Willow and Gus were not sidelined. This problem is a product of white favoritism.
It’s the only way to explain the fact that the writers couldn’t stop shoving Amity and blondie into the plot of every episode Willow and Gus got.
Like, I enjoy Amity, but there is a clear difference in what you’ll get if she’s your favorite character vs if Willow is your main character.
If Amity is your favorite character, don’t worry! You’ll get plenty of content for her! Willow on the other hand? You want an actual episode where she’s the focus? Don’t worry! You’ll just have to wait until about 13 years after Kingdom Hearts 4 comes out.
That was a joke, calm down. Obviously, I meant to say Kingdom Hearts 69.420
The point is Willow and Gus deserve better.

There are a lot of claims that Willow and Gus got a lot more this season and... No. No, they didn’t. They got a little more development. But they didn’t get a lot. Let’s analyze the episodes they were in this season.
They are in Escaping Expulsion. However, this episode isn’t actually about them. We don’t see their character arcs progress in any way though. More progression is given to Luz, Amity, Eda, and Lilith.
Willow is only in the background of Through the Looking Glass Ruins. Gus actually does get shit to do in this episode, and his part in the episode is actually really good. We learn that Gus feels inadequate about his choice in the illusion track, and then see just how good an illusionist he can be. It just had to be in the same episode where the big moment would be the kiss though. Unfortunately, his part was overshadowed. Don’t get me wrong, the Lumity parts were great, but I feel like this really should have been two episodes.
We get to see a little progression in Hunting Palismen when Willow and Gus get their palismen and we learn why their palismen chose them. That was fun. It also would have been really cool if they showed the reasons for their palismen by having the two join Luz in her little adventure as they stop the Golden Guard from capturing the palismen. Willow sticks up for her friends while Gus is good at getting help from others. But no. It has to be about Hunter for some reason.
They are in Eclipse Lake. Unfortunately, they are only there for jokes. It would have been cool if at least one of them could join the little adventure.
They are in Follies at the Coven Day Parade. As supporting characters. The most we learn about them is that they’re good at giving Amity advice, think Belos is ugly (because he is), and that Willow is building up some muscles. Only a little real progression there, and most of it is centered around Amity.
Then Any Sport in a Storm happens. It was an attempt, I’ll give it that. We learn that Willow is a jock and that they’re both good at a sport. Could have been an episode about Willow getting to rock the game, but then it all ends up centering around Hunter, and OH. MY. GOD. But wait. CUZ WE’RE STILL NOT DONE.
Then Labyrinth Runners happens. Once again, it was an attempt, I’ll give it that. We learn that Gus is a better illusionist than the current coven head and that Willow is annoyed at Amity for thinking she’s weak. Okay. However, the latter bit never gets a scene where it actually gets a scene where it’s resolved, they’re just shown working together later and we’re left to assume the resolution happened off screen, but that’s not good enough. Showing the resolution would have been much better. There is a resolution shown for the first bit. However, the first bit was less about Gus’s strength and more about Hunter gaining his trust.
I do hope that, with them in the human realm, we get to see more development in their character arcs for at least one of the specials, but even then, it’ll likely be too little too late. It’s possible for them to get a fuck ton. Hell, when the Justice League Snyder Cut happened, no one expected Victor to be the selling point of the movie. However, my expectations are low.
It does seem like they might do something with Willow and Hunter as a couple. However, considering that Hunter is involved, it’ll likely be all about him and not Willow.
Quite honestly, I feel like even if we got a third season and not three specials, we’d still have this problem.

Imagine being a mom, seeing that your daughter has rather destructive behavior, even if she is adorable, sending your kid to summer camp as a way to help the kid out (actual summer camp, not some kind of evil camp), finding out that your kid missed the bus, being nice enough to drive the kid, finding out sometime after she gets back from camp that, before missing the bus, your og kid went into THE FUCKING DEMON REALM, a shapeshifter kid looking for a home disguised herself as your kid, hearing that your kid sorta chose to stay in THE FUCKING DEMON REALM (without anymore context), and then, the next thing you know, a little while later, your og kid suddenly returns home with four other friends (who are recently homeless), and a long ass fucking story to tell.
What might your reaction to all of this be?
Oh, and yes, I am aware that was a long ass run-on sentence making up a big fucking paragraph. It sure was a lot to be shoved in your face all at once, huh?

My #1 post of 2022
You know, if Hunting Palismen had more focus on Luz deciding what kind of person she wants to be while, with help from Willow and Gus, beating up the golden guard for a fair awhile, it would have been a good episode.
If Eclipse Lake showcased more of Luz and Amity and how they acted as a couple early in their relationship, while also beating up the golden guard for awhile, it would have been better.
If Any Sport in a Storm were about Willow getting to lead her team into greatness as she becomes a jock while the other team has the golden guard in it meaning Willow, Gus, Viney, Skara, and whoever their fifth member is (I wouldn’t mind Mattholemule) getting to beat up the golden guard, that would have been so much more fun.
If Hollow Mind were about Luz finding out Belos’s identity and how he rose to power while getting help navigating the place from Willow who’s protecting Luz (because that would be cool), that episode would be less boring.
If Labyrinth Runners were about the friendship between Luz and Gus growing after she and King started hiding in Hexide to avoid the emperor’s coven due to Eda and Lilith being missing, helping both characters process some trauma and then beating up the emperor’s coven and golden guard, we’d have a better episode before the finale.
If the writers weren’t so focused on cramming the edgy blonde boy into every episode, season 2 would have been so much better. In fact, really, the golden guard becomes even more useless when you realize that Lilith should have just stayed a villain.
If Elsewhere and Elsewhen were about Luz and Gus (so that we give him another episode) going into the past to discover Philip to be full of shit, it would have been a better episode as well.
Having Lilith attempt some sort of plot only for the gang to mess everything up in Separate Tides, Hunting Palismen, Eclipse Lake, Any Sport in a Storm, and Labyrinth Runners, it would have had a better impact because LILITH CURSED EDA.
(The rest of this post is a thought experiment, btw.)
In fact, honestly? In this hypothetical alternate version of how things played out, if season 2′s day of unity ended with Philip being defeated before Lilith takes over while a full season 3 had the gang dealing with Lilith, that would be so much more interesting.
There’s the whole issue of what to do in order to make sure that, once Lilith is dealt with, she isn’t just replaced with another fascist. There’s the whole issue of taking down Lilith in the first place because her being Eda’s sister will make that a lot more emotional. Perhaps have Luz end up taking her down instead because she knows Eda would let her guard down.
Before the final showdown, there’s also the question of how their fights would change owing to Eda needing to get used to two new fighting styles (using glyphs or harpy form). Would Eda end up having to combine both fighting styles to have a better shot? Would it turn out that Agony of a Witch was the last time she’d ever be able to beat her sister in battle since that was her last fight with powers?
But Eda isn’t the only character to consider in regard to the ability to fight Lilith. I’m sure that Luz would have mastered every possible glyph combo, even ones she found in Philip’s diary, before getting to her final confrontation with Lilith. A battle between not cursed Lilith and originally powerless Luz? Fucking cool!
I’m also sure that Willow, Gus, and Amity would all be able to hold their own as well. However, I feel like, for a proper final showdown, it would make sense to be Luz, Willow, Gus, and Amity working together to tie in with the theme of friendship the show has.
Keeping it to Luz, Eda, King, Willow, Gus, and Amity, along with adding Raine and Skara because they’re cool, would have been so much more interesting.
How do certain characters interact with each other? Maybe have episodes focusing on two characters you wouldn’t expect like Willow and Raine or Gus and Skara (though pairing up Willow and Skara would also be very neat, just saying, and also speaking of lgbta+ stuff, more Luz and Amity being cute).
Perhaps Raine is actually very good at giving life advice (makes sense they’re a coven head). How do all these characters interact with Camila when Luz finally reunites with her?
So many potential ideas that would have been so good, yet what we got was less interesting than it could have been, and it’s not just because Disney screwed up.
