McD, KFC or BK?
Today’s post will be slightly different. We will be comparing the Fries of three fast food restaurants namely McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King, and decide which restaurant serves the best Fries.
McDonald’s:
Shoestrings. Same as Burger King.
Different flavours every now and then, depending on occasion. My personal favourite is seaweed!
Twister Fries, which is only available during Chinese New Year. One of the reasons why I look forward to CNY.
Three different sizes - Small, Medium and Large.
Affordable.
KFC:
Thick Cut Fries (used to be shoestrings) drizzled with cheese and mayonnaise and sprinkled with spring onion. They have the regular version too.
Slightly more expensive than McDonald’s.
Burger King:
Shoestrings. Same as McDonald’s.
New addition to their menu - Cheese Fries.
Three different sizes - Small, Medium and Large.
Slightly more expensive than McDonald’s.
In my opinion, I think McDonald’s serves the best Fries. As you can see, both McDonald’s and Burger King serve the same type of Fries. However, McDonald’s have different flavours every now and then, beating its competitors in terms of novelty as such. In addition, McDonald’s also offers cheese flavoured Fries (powdered) at some point of the year. (Both KFC and Burger King serve Cheese Fries). Let me know what you think by voting and commenting below!
Cheers!

How to survive Chinese New Year – Potato version
HappyChinese New Year! If you do celebrate Chinese New Year, this would your guidebook for surviving Chinese New Year! If you are not celebrating Chinese New Year and just chilling from this short vacation, this will probably give you ideas on how to spend that extra little holiday! So, even if you celebrate Chinese New Year or not, you would still benefit from using these tips!
Tumblr media
For those who are celebrating Chinese New Year this year, do you feel frustrated or annoyed going for family visiting, and having to deal with the questions from your nosy relatives? Or you love visiting your relatives, but have no idea what to wear? Don’t worry, because #thepotatopeople is here to help!
 Tip 1 – Be like a potato
When you go visiting or when relatives come to your house to visit, don’t feel stressed out over the questions that they are going to ask you. Just blend into the couch, and act like a potato. Be a couch potato. They probably would not notice you on the couch and the questions will probably never come. Be au natural, like a potato. Mini tip : choose the corner seat of the couch so that you stand out less.
 Tip 2 – Dress like a potato
No dress? No new clothes? It’s okay, just dress like a potato! Find your oldest looking set of clothes and wear it, tell people that your Chinese New Year theme is potato. Potato looks brown whether it is washed or fresh from the soil, so it does not matter if you are wearing your oldest set of clothes or not. Well, everyone loves potato anyway. #potatofanclub
For those who are not celebrating Chinese New Year this year, no problem! #thepotatopeople also have some tips specially for you guys!
Tip 1 – Chill and relax
If you do not need to go visiting or do not celebrate Chinese New Year, this is your time to get away from all your usual hustle and bustle. Since it is a ghost town outside and most of the shops outside would be closed anyway, why not take the chance to unwind? Be a couch potato, chill at home! Get some mash potato and your favourite movies on, spend the day on your couch with your snuggly pajamas. You can also pamper yourself with a potato facial or potato bath, if you really want to.
 Tip 2 – Be adventurous
If you don’t really want to just laze away, then you can try to challenge yourself! Be adventurous .. at home! Because there is really nothing much to do outside anyway. You can try out many things with potatoes – potato light bulb, potato stamp craft or even your own homemade potato chips. You can never get bored with potato, so if you like to try new things when you have free time, this is for you!
This will be the end of our tips for surviving Chinese New Year with potatoes! Whether you enjoy Chinese New Year or not, hope that everyone will have a good time in the end! Happy Chinese New Year!

Valentine's Day Special
Since it is Valentine's Day, instead of the usual food review, I will be sharing with you guys my favourite potato based foods!
French Fries or Potato Wedges?
Tumblr media
Although Astons is known for its western cuisine, their side dishes didn't disappoint. Their potato wedges are crispy and golden on the outside, and tender on the inside - A great accompaniment to your western food. There are many outlets all over Singapore, do give it a try if you are around the corner! If you are still racking your brains on where to have dinner, this is the place.
Favorite potato chips?
Tumblr media

My personal favourite is Classic and Sour Cream & Onion. The latter has the right balance of saltiness and sourness. There is something so addictive about it - you simply can't stop at one. They are readily available; you can find them almost anywhere. Ditch the popcorn and have Lays instead.
Share with me your favourite potato based foods too!

Fun Fact Friday the 13th
Tumblr media
Fun Fact Friday the 13th brings you the truth about McDonald's french fries. Crispy, salty and so addictive, we all love them. However, do you know what’s REALLY inside those fries?
1. Instead of just two basic ingredients - potatoes and oil, they actually contain 17 ingredients.
Tumblr media
No wonder they taste so good.  Seems like there's more than meets the eye.
2. They are not vegetarian-friendly.
Tumblr media
McDonald’s got into hot water when they didn’t readily disclose that the fries were flavored with beef tallow. McDonald's agreed to issue an apology and pay $10 million to vegetarian and religious groups who sued them.
3. How many calories are you consuming?
Tumblr media
What makes them so yummy and addictive? They are double fried. Fried once before they are shipped to the restaurants, and fried once again before they make it onto your tray!
4. They are IMMORTAL.
Tumblr media
(left: McDonald's fries, right: KFC fries)
Observing the shelf life over a span of 3 years. As you can see, the results are rather self-explanatory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does it still look appetizing to you?
5. They are extremely well-preserved!
Tumblr media
TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone), a preservative agent added to keep McDonald’s fries looking and tasting like actual food, is obtained from the same petrol chemicals that you pump into gas tanks.
Sodium acid pyrophosphate is also applied to make the fries, which are quite old by the time they reach stores, look deliciously golden. If this preservative is not used, the potato sticks would turn black within days.
Tumblr media
I hope you've gained some knowledge on the food that you're putting into your mouth, which happens to be very often for some of us!
Signing off,  Xintato

Roasted Potatoes With Herbs
Potato, potato hear me call, who is the best of em' all?
Tumblr media
Chinese New Year is arriving, and we all know that it is a season to feast.
Well, if you're having relatives over this festive season, be sure to never disappoint with this mouth-watering recipe!
INGREDIENTS
3 pounds of red potatoes, halved. 5 large garlic cloves 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley 2 tablespoons chopped thyme 2 tablespoons chopped rosemary Coarse Kosher salt
PREPARATION:
Tumblr media
Step One: Preheat oven to 375°F.
Tumblr media
Step Two: Toss the potatoes, garlic, oil, salt, black pepper and herbs into a bowl. Mix well.
Tumblr media
Step Three: Spread potatoes evenly on a baking sheet.
Tumblr media
Step Four: Roast till tender brown for approximately an hour.
Tumblr media
Step Five: Serve.
Now watch as your guests dig into the dish and perhaps, decide to pop a few extra dollars into those red packets!! 😉 Don't forget to thank me when that happens!
Well, Brain Juice Tuesday can't end off without a little brain-juicy facts, so here it is!
FACT: Did you know that the skin of red potatoes triples the amount of antioxidants than in those of white potatoes? These antioxidants help neutralise free radicals, and thus reduce risk of heart disease. 👍
Happy Tuesday! Phootato

Review: What The Fries!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking at their menu, you will derive on two things: #1: Exotic flavors such as Grab A Crab (chill crab) and Creamy Laksa, which is self-explanatory. #2: Interesting and punny names for their fries. For example, What’s Up Babe (wasabi).
Tumblr media
I wanted to try their thick cut fries but they ran out of it unfortunately. So I had the Herbies Mayonnaise potato wedges instead. It was really good. The wedges were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside - just like how I would like my deep fried food to be. I requested the sauce to be separated from the wedges so I dipped a wedge into the Herbies Mayonnaise sauce before I decided it was good and drizzled over the wedges. It wasn’t overpowering and most importantly, it does not leave a fishy aftertaste. Hence it does not make you feel sick of it after a few dips. Did I mention it is the stall’s best seller?
Tumblr media
I paid $9.80 in total for the single fries, chicken side and a drink. I chose nuggets for the chicken side, and I was entitled to a sauce of my choice. I opted for Creamy Laksa this time, and it was piping hot! This goes to show the amount of effort they put in in the smallest of details.
Verdict: It is definitely worth the try, despite it being slightly exorbitant. The quality did not disappoint, but the portion could be bigger though - to give more bang for your buck.
What The Fries is located at the basement of JCube. The nearest train station is Jurong East, and JCube is just opposite of the said train station.

P/S: Sorry for the bad quality photos! I only realized it after I finished my food.

Review: Everything With Fries
Here goes my first review!
As the title implies, I will be sharing with you guys my experience at Everything With Fries (EWF).
I was expecting the fries to be the main feature of the restaurant, but it turns out to be the otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had the Duck Leg Burger meal, which I paid $13.40 for (I upsized the meal). There are four different flavors for you to choose from: Barbecue, Sour Cream and Onion, Garlic and Curry. I chose Garlic and requested for the sauce (which turned out to be Garlic powder) to be separated from the fries because I like my fries plain and if it doesn’t turn out well, at least I get to eat them in its purest form.
Tumblr media
The fries look run of the mill, and can easily pass off as McDonald's fries, with it being shoestrings. I added a little bit of Garlic powder to it and it was too flavorful for my liking - I still prefer my fries plain. Anyway, it is very much like McDonald’s Shaker Fries, except it was less salty and oily.
Verdict: It is slightly costly but still affordable. The burger was delightful, I enjoyed it more than the fries. It isn't something I would go out of my way for but it will be a refreshing experience should you decide to give it a try.
Everything with Fries - Orchard Central Address: 181 Orchard Road, Orchard Central, 238896 Phone: 6634 8358
Cheers!

Besides that, Vitamin C in potato can also help to smoothen wrinkles and lighten our skin! With so many benefit in the potato, why hesitate in eating potatoes when its delicious and yet, good for your skin! But of course, there are many more benefits that the potato provides, besides just facial benefits, so stay tuned!
