Amba was such a good girl yesterday giving a ride to my classmate Laurie who is new to horses. She was being so careful not to make sudden movements. Amba is a sensitive horse that will usually react to the slightest bounce or shift in weight, but I think she knew perfectly well she had a beginner on her and had to be careful. I love her so much. ❤️

The Prazipro treatment helped a lot. Note how the fish is not swimming directly under the filter or airstone for oxygen anymore, and the white on the gills is gone. I'll have to keep treating for a while though, as the medications will kill adult gill flukes but not their stupid eggs.

Irakl Khvedaguridze, 81, is the only licensed doctor across 386 sq miles of mountainous region, serving a dwindling community of Tush people in north-east Georgia. During the summer and early autumn, he gets to his patients on his white horse, Bichola. When the snow gets too deep, Khvedaguridze converts his shoes into skis using birch planks nailed with wide canvas. Once the snow rises above his knees, he can only travel on foot (x)

October vs. April... I think she has slimmed down quite significantly. Even though she comes just once a week Julie has made an incredible difference. Chasing her around at liberty after my rides has also seemed to help. Very glad to have avoided the need for a grazing muzzle.

Nice interpretation... In my dream the vines were larger and more jungle-like. Think Jack and the Beanstalk.
I had a dream that I was floating through the cosmos, surrounded by large purple thorns in the formation of double helixes. What does this mean?😆

Anyway, discus are very beautiful and very personable fish; that's what makes them so addictive. But their susceptibility to parasites, bacterial infections, and slight changes in water conditions can make keeping them very stressful. Often the only difference between success and failure is whether you get healthy fish to begin with. I got the current 3 I have from a drop shipper because no single store had all of the specific varieties I wanted. 1 discus came from originally Myrtle Beach Discus and 2, including the little one who was sick from the beginning, came from Jack Wattley Discus. Jack Wattley was the first to really commercialize discus in the U.S., and he created the original turquoise strain of domestic discus. He and his business partner Gabe Pasoda became legends in the discus hobby. But since Jack Wattley died and Gabe lost his main supplier while simultaneously expanding into a second location, things seem to have gone drastically downhill with the quality of the fish. These are some of things others have posted in the discus group recently:

Cichlidbros on youtube also said they had some of their discus and other fish from Jack Wattley Discus die. It's really sad, and it feels like the end of an era. I remember when we went to Florida my dad took me to the Jack Wattley store and he signed some books for us. Gabe is a really nice person as well and he makes super helpful youtube videos. I hope the store can get back on track.

The blue knight discus is only moderately better. The breathing is way too fast, though the gills are less flared out than they were yesterday. I've added some air stones to help it breathe, and aquarium salt to boost the slyme coat and add electrolytes. Did a 50% water change yesterday before adding the levamisole, and did another 50% change after 24 hours once the initial treatment was complete. I'm debating whether to add Prazipro too as that's the more common medication used for gill flukes. I'm just nervous because there's no info about whether it's safe to combine with levamisole, and I don't want a toxicity spike to kill everyone. I think what I will do is add it, but wait until tomorrow after I can do another 50% water change. I miss my dad because he was a doctor, my discus mentor, and wrote a paper about discus treatments. He would have known the best med combo to use.

"The FEI has apparently rowed back on its own proposal to sanction national equestrian federations with a “prevalence” of doping. If the measure had gone forward it would most likely have penalised the sport’s wealthiest benefactors; Middle Eastern endurance racing still returns more positives than any other region or any other FEI discipline.
New sanctions were suggested last year following a significant spike in positives in Saudi Arabia.  But despite enquiries by HorseSport.com over the past seven weeks, the FEI has declined to confirm if new sanctions are in the draft EADCMP (anti-doping) rules for 2025, slated for debate at the FEI Sport Forum on April 29-30.
The FEI already stands accused of succumbing to “sportswashing” through allocating this week’s World Cup jumping and dressage finals to Saudi Arabia. Three leading equestrian news organisations, The Horse Magazine, Reiten St Georg and WorldofShowjumping.com  announced a boycott, largely citing Saudi Arabia’s attitude to human rights.
The FEI is, however, is challenged in finding hosts for their major events which is a topic of discussion at their Sports Forum next week. As of now, the FEI has not yet received an application to host next year’s European Jumping, Eventing, or Senior Para Championships. The announcement about Saudi Arabia hosting these Finals was announced at the end of 2019 (four and half years ahead of the event) and it’s not clear whether any bidding took place. Typically, the FEI offers the chance to bid on hosting the World Cup Finals three years in advance.
Simultaneously, HorseSport.com has pressed the FEI on the contradiction of allocating “big-ticket” championships to countries with known equine doping and cheating problems at a time when the FEI is focussed on public concern about sport horse welfare and the Social Licence to Operate (SLO).
Since 2019, FEI endurance racing has been heavily promoted at Al Ula in Saudi Arabia. It has staged the world’s richest annual race ever since the Al Wathba venue in UAE pulled the Presidents Cup from the FEI calendar in reaction to the stricter FEI endurance rules effective from 2020.
There have always been multiple doping positives from Al Ula, involving cocktails of up to seven different drugs, highlighting the ease with which routinely doped horses progress to top level endurance sport. In 2020, the FEI disciplined three senior officials for “failing in their duty” after a large number of field-of-play violations at Al Ula were not not acted upon.
Last November Al Ula was allocated the 2026 FEI World Endurance Championships, despite having recently returned the greatest number of positives (14 Saudi owned and trained horses out of the 33 sampled) at any single show or event in equestrian anti-doping history. One rider-trainer received a record seven-and-a-half-year ban. Sampling returns from the big 2024 Al Ula fixture are notably better, but could not have been predicted last November.
Not surprisingly, the FEI seems reluctant to answer the question actually asked regarding Saudi Arabia by any media organisation."
