HAPPY 51ST BIRTHDAY CROWN PRINCESS MARY OF DENMARK ✨

There have been strong reactions in recent days to my decision about the future use of titles for Prince Joachim's four children. It obviously affects me.
My decision has been a long time coming. With my 50 years on the throne, it is natural both to look back and to look forward. It is my duty and my wish as Queen to ensure that the monarchy continues to shape itself in keeping with the times. It sometimes requires difficult decisions to be made, and it will always be difficult to find the right moment.
Carrying a royal title entails a number of obligations and duties, which will in future be the responsibility of fewer members of the royal family. This adaptation, which I see as a necessary safeguard for the future of the monarchy, I want to make in my time.
I have made my decision as Queen, mother and grandmother, but as a mother and grandmother I have underestimated how much my youngest son and his family feel affected. It makes a big impression, and I'm sorry for that.
No one should be in doubt that my children, children-in-law and grandchildren are my great joy and pride. I now hope that we as a family can find the peace to find our way through this situation ourselves.

BREAKING NEWS ❗❗❗
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has announced that from 1 January 2023, Prince Joachim's children and their descendants will have their titles of Princes / Princesses removed.
They will no longer be HH Prince/ss & instead will be styled His/Her Excellency Count / Countess of Monpezat.
This decision was to give them private lives & to reflect the fact they will not be working royal.

They referred to each other using their nicknames, so that should speak to some degree of how close they were. But yeah, other than that, the above is pretty much the extent of my knowledge as well. Can’t recall any anecdotes or anything specific being disclosed
Daisy just always speaks very fondly and appreciatively of their friendship. There was certainly admiration on Daisy’s end (she’s said as much), as she was quite young (11/12) when she saw Elizabeth become queen. And I got the impression that early on in her reign, she might have turned to Elizabeth somewhat often. Because, while Beatrix of the Netherlands is also a close friend of Daisy’s, only Elizabeth’s ascension was similar to Daisy’s—Specifically: they became queens at the loss of their beloved fathers. So Elizabeth and Margrethe were pretty much the only two of their kind
Daisy definitely lost a long-time, dear friend
I just saw a clip of the Queen of Denmark in tears at the Hall the Queen is lying in state. Were they close?
Daisy has always spoken very highly of the Queen. Daisy also goes on yearly weekend trips to London in December (I believe, or she used to) and would spend time with the Queen in addition to doing Balmoral weekends several times too (Queen Beatrix as well).
I don't know if they were besties, perhaps @everythingroyalty or @houseglucksburgmonpezat might know more. But Daisy definitely admired her.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark sends her condolences to King Charles III of the United Kingdom following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom
Fredensborg, September 8, 2022
His Majesty King Charles III
Deeply moved by the sad news of your beloved mother’s death, I send you and Camila my warmest thoughts and prayers.
Your mother was very important to me and my family. She was a towering figure among the European monarchs and a great inspiration to us all. We shall miss her terribly.
Her 70 years of reign and service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth are an unprecedented and remarkable achievement. We shall always remember her important contributions to their development and prosperity. During her long life the world and your nation have changed dramatically. Throughout her reign in times difficult as well as positive she has played a crucial role as a unifying figure highly respected and deeply loved.
Denmark and I are grateful for her continuous efforts to further strengthening the close and warm relations that have always existed between our two nations.
God bless you both and give you strength and hope in your future life and duties.
Margrethe R

Oof. The sadness.
Gutted to put away and hang up my DBU shirts. BUT HEY, at least I’ll get to wear them next year!

The chances in the box just absolutely crumble. And I along with them. I should just stay in the fetal position on the floor

I COULD WEEP.
Finally on the board. An unattractive goal. [It’s not that bad.] But we take it.
ESPN Commentator Jenn Hildreth: “DENMARK, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???”
So rarely you hear commentary like that. BUT SHE RIGHT
And Hildreth is one of the better commentators. Certainly one of my favorites. Typically so professional. Just goes to show that Denmark DUN GOOOOOOFED
