Helping Tendou shave his head
Miracle boy goes bald
warnings: none :)
you and tendou had been dating since high school so you had thought you were used to his antics
but he never failed to surprise you
you had been facetiming before heading to bed at around 2 in the morning and you had been talking about nothing
and tendou randomly said, “hey, y/n...would you still love me if i was bald?”
you had immediately assured him you would still love him before thinking about what he would look like bald
“i think you would look really cute bald, satori.”
so when you were woken up at 4 in the morning to fervent knocking on your door, you immediately knew who it was as you rolled out of bed and stumbled to the door
upon opening it, you were met by tendou’s grinning face as he let himself in and took off his shoes, you closing the door behind him
he quickly gave you a peck on the forehead before giving you a grin
“let’s shave my head!”
you stood there in silence, pinching yourself as tendou made his way to your bathroom, haircutting kit in hands
“you...you want to what?”
“i want you to shave my head!”
you followed tendou into the bathroom as he ripped a hole in the garbage bag he had brought with him
“what if i mess it up?” you were fulling panicking, pacing around the bathroom as tendou simply put on the garbage bag like a shirt
“you can’t mess up! it’s all going away.”
“is this because of what i said? because of course you would look cute bald but that doesn’t mean you aren’t already cute with hair.”
“nah, i think it’ll be fun to switch things up.” he shrugged, grinning at you cheekily as he plugged the buzzer into the outlet
“are you sure about this?”
tendou just grinned and handed you the buzzer
after a few more moments of convincing, you began to bring the buzzer to the nape of his neck when-
“WAIT!”
startled, you had jumped back from tendou, making sure that nothing had happened to his hair
“can you cut me different hairstyles before you fully shave it all off?”
he asked you in the most innocent voice, as if he hadn’t almost sent you into cardiac arrest just moments ago
you lightly wacked him on the back of the head, causing him to whine and pout at you teasingly
he could tell you were far more nervous than he was, so he held your hand the entire time
after about 30 minutes of trying different haircuts (it was really just increasing levels of undercut as you worked your way up to the top of his head) you were finally at the final tuft of hair on top of his head
“are you sure?” you asked one last time, because he still could walk around with his hair as it was, with just an undercut where his sides are shaved but the top is long
“of course! do it, do it!!” he had cheered
as soon as you shaved the last bits of his hair and made sure everything was evenly shaved, tendou was jumping up and engulfing you in a hug
“satori, you’ll get hair everywhere!” you laughed, hugging him back as he lifted you and swung you from side to side
“sorry, sorry.” he chuckled
you shooed him into the shower as you cleaned up the hair that had fallen on the ground
as soon as he had gotten out and dried off his hair, he was rushing over to you
“how do i look? feel it, it’s all soft and fuzzy!”
“you look very handsome, satori.” you smiled, touching his newly shaved head gently
“mm, i love you. let’s go to sleep, i’m tired.” he said, yawning in the middle of his sentence
after a bit of bickering over whose fault it was that you were even up that late, you both settled into bed together
honestly he was right, it was very soothing to touch his hair :)
he’s very glad that you helped him cut it and still loved him regardless of whether he has hair or not
was this a test to make sure that you would love him even when he’s an old man and loses all his hair? the world may never know

The Wrong Place at the Wrong Time
Maybe he was the right person for you, but then why do all the other circumstances not line up?
warnings: angst but like not very good angst and spoilers for the manga and some parts of the anime
word count: 2161
a/n: italics are for flashbacks!
It’s at times like this when you wish you had just tried instead of holding back for fear of the future. Laying in bed in the early hours of a Saturday morning, staring at the screen that has since gone black, draping the room in darkness. For a moment, you contemplate turning on your phone and redialing, but you know that he was probably asleep already.
You resist the urge to look through old photos that you had together, knowing it would only make you sadder, choosing instead to simply put your phone down and bury yourself deeper into your comforter.
You and Iwaizumi had met a long time ago, so there was plenty of room for history. You guys had always been friends, maybe not as close as him and Oikawa, but you were definitely closer than just acquaintances. Upon ending up at Seijoh, you had signed up to become the manager for the volleyball team, which led you to become closer to the boys.
And of course, as soon as Oikawa and Iwaizumi met Hanamaki and Matsukawa, you grew to become close to them as well. And so began the spiral that was your crush on Iwaizumi. Out of all four of the boys, you had always had a bit of a soft spot towards Iwaizumi, just as he had one for you.
It all started when the five of you began to walk home together after practices. You would all start leaving the school in a big group until Makki and Mattsun had to go a different direction. After a while, you, Oikawa, and Iwaizumi would reach Oikawa’s house and he would tease you both before heading inside.
And then it would just be you and Iwaizumi. The two of you would keep walking, and you remember the first time he passed his house and kept walking with you.
“We passed your house.” you pointed out, stopping to look at Iwaizumi questioningly.
“I know.” he nodded, continuing to walk and making sure that you were following him.
“Did you need to go somewhere?” you asked, trailing after him in confusion as you continued to your own home.
“No, I just wanted to make sure you got home safe.” he shrugged. You felt your cheeks grow warm and you could tell even from behind him that he was embarrassed as well.
“That’s really sweet of you, Iwa.” you said, clearing your throat to keep your voice from wavering as you fell into step with the boy.
Even when you guys fought during your final year at Seijoh, Iwaizumi still made sure to walk you home and wait to make sure you got inside of your house before he left to go home himself.
You were always the one making sure that he was remembering to take care of himself when he was especially worried about Oikawa pushing himself. You were always the one reassuring him when he doubted his capabilities as an ace.
And in return, Iwaizumi would always help you with your managerial duties. Anything you needed help carrying or reaching, Iwaizumi was there to help. Anytime the team was being too much to handle, Iwaizumi would step in. He was always the rock that was there and ready to anchor you.
“Hey there, you hit the ground pretty hard when you went for the ball. Do you want me to get you some ice?” you had asked Kyoutani, a new first year on the volleyball club. You received no response.
“Hey, y/n-” Hanamaki began as you reached out to put a hand on the first year’s shoulder. You ignored the warning from your fellow second year as you grasped the boy’s shoulder.
“Leave me alone. I don’t need your stupid help.” Kyoutani had snapped, wrenching your hand off of his shoulder and standing quickly, causing you to trip over yourself at the sudden close proximity, falling to the ground.
“What is your problem?” Iwaizumi had yelled, running over to you quickly, Oikawa and the other second years following behind him. Iwaizumi had shoved Kyoutani away from you as Matsukawa helped you up.
You had gently grabbed Iwaizumi’s arm when he started to get angry at the first year, causing him to look at you. You visibly saw the tension leave his body when he looked at your face.
“I-I’ll just get you ice in case you need it later.” you had mumbled, quickly fleeing from the scene. You heard yelling behind you as you left the gym to get ice from the cooler.
“I’m sorry about him.” you jumped, turning to see that Iwaizumi had followed you.
“It’s okay, I’m sure he didn’t mean it.” you reassured him.
“Still, he shouldn’t have spoken to you like that.” Iwaizumi muttered, clenching his jaw. You hesitantly reached out a hand and placed it on the side of his face, caressing his cheek gently.
“Seriously, I’m okay. Thank you for looking out for me though, Hajime. I…” you swallowed thickly, trying to gather up the courage to say the words that both of you wanted to hear. Unable to force the words out of your mouth, you had settled on, “I really appreciate you.”
Since your first year of high school, your guys’ friends were always teasing you both about the obvious crushes you held for one another. During your second year, when you both grew closer, you were certain there were many times where Iwaizumi had wanted to say something, just like there were a number of times you had considered saying something as well.
During your final year of high school was when things started to change. Comfortable silence on walks home turned into unbearable moments full of awkward tension. Iwaizumi started to avoid you, choosing instead to focus only on his studies and volleyball. He would hang out with the other third years and not directly invite you, making you feel too awkward to tag along, or he would avoid hanging out with them when you were around.
As you lay, tossing and turning in bed, you can’t help but remember the day that Seijoh had lost to Karasuno in your guys’ final shot at Nationals. You had approached Iwaizumi, who stood frozen in place as the team patted his back in an attempt to comfort him.
“Hajime…” you had mumbled, grabbing his hand softly and rubbing the top of his hand with your thumb. You could feel heat coming off of his hand from the sheer force of his spikes. He didn’t reply.
“Hajime, let’s go.” you said more firmly, tugging on his arm lightly to get him to start walking, doing everything in your power to keep your voice steady and your tears at bay in front of the ace. He squeezed your hand before letting go, walking out of the arena ahead of you in silence.
You had joined Makki and Mattsun in teasing Oikawa on the way back to Seijoh, where you all found yourselves at the ever so familiar gym. Like you would on a normal day, you wheeled out the volleyballs and helped the third years put up the net before taking a seat next to the scoreboard while they played out their frustrations.
When Oikawa gave his speech, you cried with the rest of the third years while you all got the gym in order. And then, the walk home happened. You had trailed behind Oikawa and Iwaizumi for the majority of the walk home, hugging Oikawa tightly before he entered his house.
Once you and Iwaizumi reached your house, you both stopped, simply staring at each other.
“Thank you for the last three years.” he spoke to you for the first time since before the match against Karasuno, pulling you into a tight hug which you quickly reciprocated. You paid no mind to the quickly dampening spot of your jacket where he had buried his face into your shoulder, choosing to instead rub his back in an attempt to ease the cries wracking through his shaking frame.
“Hajime I…” you trailed off, pulling back from the hug with misty eyes to look at the boy in front of you, unable to form the words that you so desperately longed to tell him. “I’m proud of you.”
After a few more moments of muffled sniffles, he walked you to the door of your house and waited for you to go inside.
“Goodnight, y/n.” he said, opening his mouth to say something more before stopping himself with a pained smile.
“Goodnight.” you replied back mechanically, shutting your door softly before sinking to the ground.
The rest of your time together in high school was full of awkward tension as you both used preparation for college as an excuse to avoid meeting. Makki and Mattsun had confronted you over this, to no avail. When you and Oikawa talked about him going to Argentina, you felt fear for the future begin to seep in.
During your first year of college, you and Iwaizumi began to talk again, taking time to meet up at least twice a month while he was still in Japan. Things felt normal for the first time in years. That is, until he informed you of his decision to go to California. You recall the conversation as if it happened yesterday.
It was about a month and a half before your guys’ sophomore year of college started and you, Iwaizumi, Matsukawa, and Hanamaki had spent the day together. After a day full of fun activities, you were exhausted. After you all got off the train to walk home, Iwaizumi insisted on carrying you on his back when you complained of being tired. Of course, while you tried to refuse, he insisted, ending up carrying you from the train station almost all the way to your house.
When you guys had to split off from Makki and Mattsun, you almost missed Mattsun quietly mutter ‘Good luck.’ to Iwaizumi.
“Good luck with what?” you had asked curiously. Iwaizumi was quiet.
“Hajime?” you prodded, worry beginning to form in the pit of your stomach.
“I’m transferring to a different college.” he began cautiously, his grip on your legs tightening as your grip slackened and you began to slip off of his back slightly.
“Oh. Where to?” you asked, your mouth dry.
“California.” he answered after a moment of hesitation.
“California? In the United States?” you had exclaimed incredulously, wiggling in his grasp in order to get off of his back. He gently set you down on the ground.
“Yeah. Irvine.” he said shortly, rubbing his neck and refusing to meet your gaze.
“I...when do you leave?” you managed to choke out, tears beginning to form in your eyes.
“Next week.”
“What? Why didn’t you say anything sooner? Did Makki and Mattsun know?” your voice had gotten louder at this point, betrayal shooting through you when Iwaizumi remained silent.
“You didn’t say anything.” you cried, tears starting to fall down your cheeks. Iwaizumi reached out to you but you had backed up quickly.
“y/n…” he had pleaded with you, his own eyes also growing red.
“Just...go home. You probably have to pack. I can get home on my own.”
And then a week later, just as he had said, you, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa were accompanying him through the airport. When you reached the point where the three of you could no longer accompany him, he stopped, turning and setting down his luggage. Hanamaki and Matsukawa bid their farewells first before stepping away to give you and Iwaizumi space.
“Do you have everything?” you had asked, nervously fidgeting with the hem of your shirt as you rattled off items that Iwaizumi might have forgotten.
“y/n.” Iwaizumi called, grabbing your attention and pulling you into a tight hug.
“Hajime. I don’t want you to go. I’m going to miss you. Why do you have to leave?” you sobbed into the embrace, balling up his shirt in your hands in frustration.
“I know. I’m sorry.” he mumbled into your hair, pressing a soft kiss to the crown of your head before letting go. As you, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa watched him leave, you could have sworn you saw him mouth an “I love you” and suddenly, everything made sense. He knew he wanted to leave Japan and he knew you wanted to stay.
That’s what hurt you the most. That’s the pain that lingers in your chest each time you think about Iwaizumi Hajime. He really was the right person for you, but you really were together in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Perhaps in a different life, you would meet again and everything would align for you both. For this life though, you’re left to wonder if you’ll ever have that or if you should stop waiting.
You picked up your phone gingerly, the urge to call Iwaizumi back too strong, only to find that the battery was dead.

Date Nights with Tendou
Date nights with miracle boy satori
warnings: none :)
you and tendou both went to shiratorizawa
what's nice about shiratorizawa is that they have dorms
what's not nice about dorms is that you have roommates
BUT early on in your guys' relationship, tendou had made some sort of agreement with his roommate that saturday evenings were for the two of you so his roommate knew by now to leave you guys alone
so, it became your guys' lil weekly routine
every saturday at around 3 or 4 pm, you would sneak over to tendou's dorm
you guys would start your "date" off by cuddling and reading that week's issue of jump! together
you would read it page-by-page together and then order dinner as soon as you finished reading
it was a rule that you had both decided on early on in the relationship that you guys wouldn't talk about the week's jump! until dinner arrived so you could talk about it while eating
you guys would talk about your weeks after a very in depth discussion about the jump! issue but you guys didn't really spend much time talking about your weeks since you talk basically every day anyway
sometimes he would tell you about any interesting things that happened in volleyball that week or about how many opponents he absolutely destroyed
almost every week, you guys would cuddle in your oversized hoodies and sweatpants and watch anime together
normally, he's the big spoon because his hair blocks your vision of the screen but sometimes, you'll sit leaning against his pillows on the wall and he'll sit between your legs with his back to your chest
so he isn't exactly the little spoon in this position but this way, you can wrap your arms around him and you can put your chin on his shoulder so you can see
but if he wants to be the little spoon because he had a bad day or for any other reason, you guys will just play some music and cuddle with you as the big spoon instead of watching anime
typically, you would just watch anime until one of you got bored, which happens after just one or two episodes because tendou gets bored of just doing one thing really quickly
when he gets bored, he makes it known by tickling you
or sometimes, when he's feeling extra affectionate, he'll just shut his laptop and shove it off the bed and start littering kisses all over your face
something tendou absolutely loves doing is just laying face to face with you in silence
you guys are just laying together with the dopiest smiles on your faces and eventually, one of you will crack and start giggling, which quickly turns into full on laughter
snacks are an absolute must every week
you have a system where one week, you'll buy snacks and he'll buy dinner
and then the next week, you buy dinner and he'll buy snacks
tendou hates this system though, because he just wants to spoil you!
once, you offhandedly mentioned that you wished you had bought twizzlers and he got so excited
"don't move, y/n, i'll be right back!" he took off his sweater soooo fast and pulled it over your head without even letting you put your arms in the sleeves
"this is so you don't miss me too much. i love you baby, i'll be back before you know it." he gave you a kiss, grabbed his keys, and was out the door in less than a minute
(aka, too fast for you to comprehend that he was literally driving to the store to buy you your twizzlers)
literally you sat there confused for 10 minutes, unable to text him to ask what he was doing because he left so fast he forgot to take his phone
"I'M BACK FROM THE WAR, MY LOVE!" he had yelled dramatically as he threw open the door to his dorm, twizzlers in hand as he spread his arms for a hug
"i- you actually went and bought me twizzlers" "of course, you said you wanted some, right?"
if you ever mention anything you want, even as a joke, tendou will get it without hesitation so you definitely have to stop him before he leaves or at least go with him
if you tell him you were just kidding, he'll usually start playfully hitting you with his sweater paws (oversized sweater babie)
which then turns into a sweater paw fight which will absolutely turn into a pillow fight
all in all, saturdays are just super chill and wholesome nights for you guys to have lil mini dates and spend time together and be all cute n in love n stuff

No Medicine for Lovesickness
Akaashi with an s/o who speaks before thinking
warnings: none :)
word count: 2041
a/n: to the anon who requested an oikawa piece, i AM working on it, there is just something i’m currently super inspired to work on and i’m try to power through that but i will get right on it as soon as i’m done i’m so sorry ily thank you for requesting btw
You had been invited by Kaori, a girl in your friend group, to come watch the Fukurodani boys volleyball club practice after school as she was trying to recruit you as a manager for the team so you would both have more time to hang out. And that's how you ended up at the Fukurodani gym after school, nervously standing before the door as you contemplated running away.
"Excuse me, I'm heading in, are you entering the gym as well?" you jumped at the deep voice behind you, turning to see a boy with slightly messy black hair and grey-blue eyes. He wore his uniform neatly, even though school was already dismissed for the day and you were silent as you stared at him for a few moments.
"Um, yes! Me too! I mean, I'm going into the gym too. But I'm not in the boys volleyball club. I'm just...going in." you said, stumbling over your words and mentally facepalming at the word vomit flooding out of your mouth.
"...alright." he said, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he reached around you to open the door to the gym, holding it open for you as you were still frozen in front of it.
"Thank you...uh..." you trailed off, realizing you didn't know who the boy before you was.
"Akaashi Keiji. And you are?" he asked as you both walked in.
"I'm l/n f/n. Nice to meet you, Akaashi-san." you introduced as you reached out a hand for him to shake, deeming that he seemed like the type of polite person who appreciated handshakes.
"Likewise, l/n-san." he replied, shaking your hand in a firm grasp.
"Please, just y/n is fine." you said without thinking, flushing at your boldness in letting him call you by your first name so quickly.
"Ah...alright, y/n-san. Well I have to go. It was nice talking to you." Akaashi said, walking away as you echoed his goodbye. You approached Kaori, who waved at you as she saw you approaching.
"What's Akaashi Keiji like?" you asked, trying to seem casual and subtle although you failed terribly.
"Akaashi? Um I don't really know. He's really quiet and he's the only one who can handle Bokuto. He's a second year and I think he's really smart too." she said, wracking her brain for as much information about Akaashi as she could recall.
"Oh, that's cool." you responded, trying to play it off as if you were disinterested.
"Why do you ask? Do you like him or something?" she asked you jokingly, turning to you, shocked when you immediately flushed and turned away, stuttering out excuses.
"You do?! How do you even know him? You aren't even in the same year." she exclaimed, shaking your shoulders as if that would get you to tell her faster.
"I mean...I don't know if I like him. But I met him when I was walking into the gym." you informed her as you swatted her hands off of your shoulders.
"I-what? So barely even know him and you already think you like him." she tried to confirm, praying that she was interpreting the situation wrong.
"...yes." you mumbled, looking down, ignoring her as she tried to ask you more questions as you headed up to the bleachers, seeing the boys coming out of the clubroom to begin practice.
As you watched their practice, you couldn't help but stare at Akaashi, only looking away whenever his silver haired teammate pointed you out. Throughout the practice, you found yourself unable to tear your gaze away, butterflies in your stomach as you fantasized about what it would be like if you were in a relationship. After practice ended, you approached the dark haired boy before he could go back to the clubroom.
"You were really cool, Akaashi-san!" you exclaimed, refusing to make eye contact with him as you felt your cheeks grow warm.
"Oh. Thank you, y/n-san, I'm glad you enjoyed watching our practice." he replied, a light flush settling across his cheeks, contrary to his deadpan expression and monotonous voice.
"Okay. Well...goodnight." you said lamely, waving sadly at the perceived lack of interest from Akaashi.
"Goodnight...I hope you come to our practice again sometime." Akaashi called as you began to walk home, deciding you would definitely be coming to their practice the next day.
Everyday for the next week, you would come to the volleyball club's practices and watch, coming up to Akaashi and complimenting him for his hard work at the end of every night and every night you walked home feeling dejected by his monotonous thank yous.
"Kaori, I don't know what to do! How can I make it any more obvious that I like him?" you complained to your friend during lunch on the Monday after your first week of watching practices and pining over Akaashi.
"y/n, you haven't done anything to show that you like him, you just tell him he looks cool everyday." Kaori sighed, exasperated.
"What else would I do?" you shot back defensively.
"Uhh, what about...tell him?" Kaori said slowly, trying to spell it out for you more clearly.
"Good idea. I think I won't do that." you replied, smiling at Kaori's groan of annoyance.
"Well, you can't stay to watch practice tomorrow so why don't you do something for him?" Kaori suggested.
"I know! I'll cook something for him!" you exclaimed, standing up in excitement. You and Kaori spent the rest of your lunch break looking up recipes for you to try to cook for Akaashi.
The next day, you walked up to the gym, a box of homemade onigiri in your hands as you nervously stared in through the windows. As you saw Akaashi walk out of the clubroom, you sucked in a deep breath and mustered up all your confidence as you opened the gym doors and walked in.
"Uh, Akaashi-san?" you called nervously, shifting your weight from foot to foot as the setter began to walk over to you.
"Hello, y/n-san. Are you staying to watch us today?" Akaashi asked you politely.
"Oh, I'm actually not. I have to do some stuff so I'm heading home early today." you said, scratching the back of your neck awkwardly.
"Oh...I see." Akaashi said, expression unreadable as he spoke.
"But I made you this! To eat!" you exclaimed, quickly shoving the box outwards for him to take.
"...oh, thank you, y/n-san. That's very kind of you." Akaashi replied, gently taking the box from your hands.
"It was no biggie. I hope you like it!" you told him, bowing slightly as you made your way out of th gym. "Good luck today!"
Akaashi watched your retreating figure, jumping when an arm wrapped around his shoulders.
"Why don't you ask them out already?" Konoha asked the setter casually.
"No." Akaashi replied simply, shrugging off Konoha's arm.
"Why not? Don't you like them?" Konoha prodded, reaching for the box of onigiri greedily.
"It's not that I don't like them, because I do. But I don't think y/n-san should be with someone like me. They're too...kind and friendly. Besides, y/n-san is just being nice." Akaashi replied, holding the box further away from Konoha's grabby hands.
"What do you mean y/n doesn't like you? Aren't you guys dating?" Bokuto asked, approaching Konoha and Akaashi as he came out of the clubroom, casually stretching his arms while looking at Akaashi confused.
"Huh? No, y/n-san and I are not dating. Where did you hear that?" Akaashi questioned, genuinely puzzled.
"Oh, I just thought that you and y/n were dating cuz y/n is always here and you always talk to them and stuff." Bokuto shrugged in response, walking away to start setting up the gym for practice.
"...well there you have it. Just confess to y/n before someone gets them first." Konoha said, following after Bokuto and leaving Akaashi rooted in his spot, deep in thought. He shook his head to clear his thoughts, deciding to think about it tomorrow and confront you about the matter after practice when you approached him.
Little did he know, you weren't going to be coming. After conferring with Kaori, you decided that you had simply gained a silly crush on the blue eyed setter and you figured the best way to get over it would be to stop showing up to their practices.
The next day, Akaashi spent the entire day planning what he would say to you after practice but was gutted when you weren't there as you usually were, you hadn't even shown up to give him anything or say anything to him.
"Dude, where's y/n." Konoha asked Akaashi halfway through practice.
"I don't know." Akaashi replied honestly, a small frown settling across his features.
"Kaori-chan, where is y/n?" Konoha asked for Akaashi during their next water break.
"Oh uh...y/n is really...sick right now. Yeah, they're very sick. They can't come to watch practices for a while." Kaori lied, not wanting to expose your crush on the setter, especially while you weren't there.
"Could I possibly get y/n-san's address? I would like to drop some stuff off for them." Akaashi spoke up, surprising everyone. Kaori nodded mutely, knowing you would be alright with it (in this scenario! do not just give your friend's address to people unless they are as wonderful of a person as Akaashi (they aren't) or you're the author controlling their hypothetical life), deciding to give you a heads up after practice ended and giving him your address.
You were at home when you received a text from Kaori.
Get ready for a surprise
You were confused and a little bit concerned. It wasn't your birthday, nor did she have any reason for sending a surprise to your house, so you were a bit wary. About half an hour later, your questions were answered as you heard a knock on your door. You peeked through the window and gasped.
"Akaashi-san, what are you doing here?" you asked the boy who stood at your doorstep, grocery bag in hand.
"Good evening y/n-san, I apologize for intruding on you without warning. Suzumeda-san informed me that you weren't feeling well so I thought I'd bring you some stuff." he replied, holding out the grocery bag to you.
"Kaori told you I was...sick." you repeated, not putting two and two together yet.
"Yes. I asked why you weren't at practice today and she informed me that you were sick so I grabbed you some things to hopefully help you feel better since you are always encouraging me." Akaashi informed you.
"Oh. I see." you replied dumbly.
"Are you still feeling unwell?" he asked you as he set the grocery bag on the ground for you.
"Um...about that. I'm not sure why Kaori told you I was sick." you said awkwardly.
"Isn't that why you didn't come to practice?" Akaashi asked, just as puzzled as you.
"No, I didn't come to watch you guys because I like you." you replied bluntly.
"You like me?"
"Yeah. I thought that was obvious."
"Wait, why did you not come to practice because you like me?"
"Because you don't like me so I wanted to get over you faster."
"I don't like you?" Akaashi questioned, wondering what gave you that idea.
"Yeah." you replied, embarrassment beginning to creep up in your stomach.
"Oh. Wait, no that's not true. I do like you." Akaashi said, frowning at your accusation.
“What do you mean you like me?” you asked, puzzled.
“I mean, I like you and I would like to take you out on a date sometime.” he replied.
“Well...why didn’t you say anything before?” you accused him, pouting slightly.
“I didn’t think you liked me. I don’t think you should like me.” he replied easily.
“Well that was silly of you. But...since I’m not sick, how would you feel about coming in and sharing this?” you invited Akaashi, holding up the bag of groceries.
‘I’d like that.” said Akaashi, smiling as he took the grocery bag from your hands and left his shoes by the door, walking into your house.

A Little Nudge
Kuroo needs a little nudge to confess, too bad jealousy was a shove.
warnings: SPOILERS, cursing, mention of a minor injury, hella tension
word count: 2508
You were the beloved manager for Nekoma High School’s boys volleyball club. You were a third year at this point, having become the manager for the club when you were a first year, so this was your last year with the boys. Over the years, you quickly grew to love all of them like a family, you constantly looking out for them and their well-being and them “protecting” you from “creeps”.
The first years looked up to you as if you were some kind of angel. They warmed up to you quickly and admired you deeply. To put it simply, they were your little band of simps. Inuoka and Lev would always approach you and try to talk to you, boasting about how strong they are and how easily they could help you carry everything. Meanwhile, Shibayama was the one actually helping you carry things.
The second years cared for you quite differently. Yamamoto was the self declared president of the “y/n protection squad”. He didn’t talk to you very much but he wouldn’t let anyone else suspicious talk to you either. Fukunaga was always making you laugh with his silly jokes. He would approach you with the most monotonous face and crack a pun that barely made sense.
The third years were sweeties to you. Yaku was always helping you keep everyone in line. You would rarely raise your voice, no matter how boisterous the boys got, so Yaku would do it for you. The team likes to joke that he’s your megaphone. Kai is the support you need to keep coming back every day. Some days as manager are especially stressful or just draining but Kai is always there to help if possible or simply encourage you.
Kenma and Kuroo...they’re your childhood best friends. You had met Kenma first, despite the boy being younger than you, and you had quickly become friends...somewhat. And when Kuroo came along, the three of you were inseparable. You always claimed that they were like siblings to you, but as the years dragged on, Kuroo quickly grew to be more. Things definitely started changing in high school.
First and second year were no biggie. You and Kuroo stuck together like glue during your first year and when Kenma got into high school, the three of you were back together again. But sometime between the second half of your second year and the beginning of your third year, things changed. Kuroo began icing you out for no apparent reason. Kenma ended up drifting towards Kuroo, something he apologized for, but he still made an effort to stay friends with you.
The second and third years on the team all noticed this development as soon as your third year started. You and Kuroo were barely speaking. You only spoke when it was about the team. You had tried to talk to him a few times, only for him to shut you down with bland, one word answers. As the season went on and nationals drew closer, tensions grew and you and Kuroo were avoiding each other like the plague.
On the bus ride to nationals, you had chosen to sit in the middle of the bus, next to Kai, shocking everyone as you would always sit behind Kuroo and Kenma up front. From what you knew, the beginning of the bus ride was fine. You showed Kai the notes you had taken on opposing teams before the both of you fell asleep for a short amount of time. Little did you know, the small action was causing quite a stir.
“y/n-san is sleeping on Kai’s shoulder!” Lev whisper-yelled obliviously. Everyone on the bus turned to look at Kuroo, who had his jaw clenched tightly.
“Good observation, Lev.” Kuroo said from between clenched teeth.
“Don’t you like y/n-san?” Lev prodded the irked boy.
“Lev, shut up!” Yaku snapped, slapping Lev in the back of the head.
“y/n can sleep on whoever they want, they aren’t my problem.” Kuroo retorted, pulling out his phone and pretending to text someone. Kenma eyed him warily before deciding to let it drop. As the bus rolled over a large bump, you and Kai were jolted awake.
“Oh, sorry Kai! I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you like that!” you exclaimed, scooting away from the boy quickly.
“No, no it’s okay, I’m sure it was just an accident.” Kai reassured you, rubbing his neck in embarrassment nonetheless.
“Yeah, an accident.” Kuroo scoffed under his breath. Unfortunately for him, the bus was completely silent as they watched your interaction with Kai, so everyone heard his snarky remark.
“What was that, Kuroo-san?” you asked him in a sickly sweet tone, emphasizing the formality of the name you called him as you used to call him Tetsu.
“Nothing, why don’t you just go back to sleep. I’m sure you’re tired since you’ve been so busy lately, Manager-chan.” he jeered back at you.
“Well, someone has to make sure that the team is ready and in tip-top shape, Captain.” you snapped back.
“Now, now, let’s just calm down guys.” Kai said, breaking the intense stare down you and Kuroo were having while the rest of the team watched on. You slumped in your seat and crossed your arms childishly, frowning as you heard indistinct mumbling from Kuroo. The bus ride was dead silent for the rest of the ride to the stadium. As you all got down and began to make your way to the court your game would be on, you began to pat your pockets.
“Oh no, I forgot my notebook on the bus, I’ll be right back, you guys keep going!” you exclaimed.
“Do you want me to hold the bag of water bottles?” Kai asked, reaching out for the bad hanging on your shoulder and bumping into your hip slightly.
“It’s okay, but thank you Kai! I’ll be back in no time.” you assured before taking off in a slight jog to get back to the bus. You quickly located your notebook when you got back to the bus before beginning to walk back to the stadium.
“Oof.” someone grunted, the water bottle bag swinging outwards when you turned a corner swiftly, hitting someone in the stomach.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry about that, are you okay?” you exclaimed, waving your hands around in a panic as you observed the person for injuries. He was a fairly tall boy with dark hair parted to the left and a thin face.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about it.” he said, chuckling good naturedly. “Can I walk you to your destination? Only to make sure you don’t clobber any other unsuspecting victims.”
“Oh, that’s alright, I was just getting back to my team.” you replied, not wanting to trouble him.
“Oh, I see you’re Nekoma’s manager. I’m very good friends with Kuroo, the captain. I’d love to accompany you back if you’ll let me.” he said as he saw the team name on the back of your jacket, a charming smile on his face.
“I mean, if you know Kuroo I’m sure he’d be happy to see you.” you said thoughtfully as you nodded.
“I’m Daishou, by the way. What was your name?” he asked you.
“I’m y/n, sorry, I totally forgot to introduce myself.” you replied as you both began to head back to the main courts.
“Can I carry your bag for you?” Daishou offered, holding out a hand.
“Oh no, it’s not that heavy.” you assured him.
“Are you sure? I’ll be sure not to hit you with it.” he joked. You laughed before allowing him to take the bag from your shoulder and carry it for you.
“So, how do you know Kuroo?” you asked him, not noticing the wicked smirk on his face.
“We met through volleyball. It’s always nice to see him at matches like this.” he replied easily. “And you? I assume you’re friends since you must work together often.”
“Oh...yeah, I guess so.” you frowned, remembering that you both indeed used to be friends and worked well together.
“Did I say something wrong?”
“No, it wasn’t anything you said. Kuroo and I are just having a bit of an ongoing argument I guess.” you replied, trying to keep your tone casual. Daishou was about to respond but you found yourselves at the doors to the courts. As you entered, the Nekoma team immediately surrounded you, Kuroo reaching you first.
“Daishou, what are you doing here?” he asked, the smile on his face contrasting the dark look in his eyes.
“Just dropped by to say hello.” Daishou replied easily as he handed the bag of water bottles to you. “It was very nice to meet you, y/n.”
“You too! Good luck on your matches!” you called as he excused himself and walked away.
“What did he want.” Kuroo asked you.
“What do you mean? He just helped me carry the water bottles and walked me back here.” you replied, frowning at the taller boy.
“You’ve never had problems carrying the bag before.” he accused.
“Well, he offered to carry it for me. What’s your problem? Just because you’re rude to me now, it doesn’t mean other people have to be as well.”
“Excuse me?” Kuroo asked incredulously.
“Okay, that’s enough. We need to start warming up.” Kai intervened once again, stepping between the two of you. Kuroo gave you one final harsh look before walking away.
The game against Fukurodani was a blur to you. The team felt off, the argument between you and Kuroo putting a strain on the team's communication. Everyone was stoic and silent as the game ended in Fukurodani’s favor. You all quickly made your way off of the court and prepared for the next match, the last shot at nationals.
“Daishou!” Kuroo’s jaw clenched as he saw you wave at the Nohebi boy who he was approaching to begin the game.
“You guys are going down hard.” Daishou smirked as he reached out to shake Kuroo’s hand.
“Oh, like how Mika let you down hard?” Kuroo sneered as he grasped Daishou’s hand.
“I don’t mind being single. y/n is pretty cute, and from what I’ve seen, they’re single.” Daishou fired back, grin widening at Kuroo’s angry expression.
“Leave y/n alone.” Kuroo spat angrily. The two separated and walked back to their respective sides as the game began.
The game was unlike anything you had ever seen. Kuroo was like a different person. He was on his top game, you doubted anyone else would have noticed the extra tension in his muscles and the clenching of his jaw, but it was undeniable that his presence on the court was unrivaled. So focused on how the game was going, you barely noticed when Kuroo called for a timeout.
“y/n, can you take care of Kuroo?” you were snapped out of your thoughts by Nekomata as he gestured to Kuroo, who stood before you. You nodded stiffly before beginning to walk out to the main hallway where the first aid kit was left.
“...are you okay?” you asked him as he followed behind you.
“Yeah.” he replied shortly.
“You seem off.”
“I’m playing fine.”
“Not like that...you don’t seem like your usual self.” you said, patting the space next to you as you sat on a bench with the first aid kit in hand.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” he replied as he sat down next to you.
“Icing me out as usual.” you laughed sadly as you grabbed his hand to begin disinfecting his finger.
“I’m not icing you out.” he hissed, hand tightening around your wrist instinctively as the alcohol hit the injured finger.
“Sorry, sorry.” you said, uncurling his fingers from your wrist as you proceeded more gently. “But if this isn’t icing me out, what is it.”
“I’m not icing you out.” he repeated instead of answering the question.
“Can’t you just tell me what I did wrong?” you finally snapped, looking him in the eye for a few moments before averting your gaze and going back to bandaging his finger.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, okay y/n?”
“Then what happened, why are you acting like this?” you asked as you finished bandaging his finger, curling his fingers into his palms and resting your hand on top of his unconsciously.
“I like you, y/n. That’s what happened. I’ve liked you for a long time and you clearly don’t like me. Why should I make it harder for myself to move on?” he answered agitated as he stood up and turned to go back to the courts.
“Because that’s selfish and you’re an asshole! Didn’t you ever stop to consider that I might like you too? Or were you just gonna keep being a coward and just ice me out?” you snapped as you zipped up the first aid kit, quickly standing up and grabbing his elbow to stop him.
“This isn’t funny, y/n. Let’s just go back.” he replied as he yanked his arm out of your grasp.
“I’m not joking! This is the first time you’ve let me talk to you normally in how long and you won’t even believe what I’m trying to tell you!”
“Okay, so you aren’t joking? What does that mean, you like me too?” he scoffed as he towered over you.
“Yes, you dipshit! I like you.” you exclaimed. “Ugh, whatever, it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is we need to get you back in the game.”
“Hey. We’re talking about this after the game. If we go to nationals, you owe me a date.”
“Awfully confident for someone who called a timeout for a little finger boo boo.” you teased. A smirk broke out on Kuroo’s face, quickly spreading to yours as well at the feeling of familiarity of it all.
“I’ll make you eat your words.” he grinned, walking back into the main gym with you in tow. The game was nerve wracking, but the looks on the faces of your teammates was one of the best things you’d ever seen. You quickly hugged Yaku, who was on the bench next to you, before you felt Kuroo and Kai joining in on the hug.
“We made it.” you grinned into the hug, happy tears brimming in your eyes. As you guys packed up your things to leave the court, Kuroo approached you.
“So, we won.” he grinned at you.
“Uh huh.”
“So, about that date.” he continued, gauging your face for your reaction.
“Hmm...I guess you do owe me a date to make up for all of your shitty behavior.” you joked, though you could feel warmth creeping up your neck in embarrassment.
“Yeah, I guess I do. First free day after nationals?” he asked, rubbing his neck as he suddenly grew nervous.
“That sounds nice.” you replied, reaching out to grasp his hand reassuringly.
“Do you maybe need a bus buddy?”
“Depends. Can I sleep on your shoulder?”

Brighter Than the Stars
Late night adventures with Futakuchi
warnings: mild cursing, very cheesy shit
word count: 1451
a/n: this is actually the first thing i wrote intended for this blog but it’s been sitting in my drafts this whole time oops
You groaned as you were jolted awake by the shrill ringing of your phone. You turned to see the caller ID and briefly contemplated pretending to not have woken up before begrudgingly picking up. You couldn’t even begin to voice any complaints before an all too familiar voice came through your phone speakers.
“Hey y/n get your cute ass out here.”
“What??” you hissed, groggily rubbing your eyes, irritation lacing your tone.
“Come on, hurry up let’s go!” Futakuchi said into the phone, waving at you as you peeked out your window to see him standing on the sidewalk. “Don’t lay back down or I will climb through your window.”
“Ughh okay, okay. Turn around so I can get dressed and I’ll come down. I mean it, you better turn around.” you threatened before hanging up the phone, checking to make sure Futakuchi actually turned around before rolling out of bed to put on a comfy sweater and shorts. You grabbed your phone, wallet, and house key before silently making your way to the front door and slipping out, closing the door behind you and turning around to see Futakuchi’s easy-going grin.
“I hate you.” you mumbled, scowling at his familiar grin before pulling your hood up and heading towards his car.
“You love me.” he replied back, matter-of-factly as he tightened your hoodie strings around your head as you swatted at his hands, buckling his seatbelt and making sure yours was buckled as well before starting his car.
“Whatever. What do you want, anyway?” you asked, loosening your hood in annoyance as you turned to look at Futakuchi as he began to drive.
“Maybe I just wanted to hang out with my best friend.” he said. You felt your chest tighten when he said friend but you pretended not to notice.
“Okay, so go bother Aone.” you snorted at him.
“You’re my best friend too. Besides, you’re different.” he frowned at you.
“Yeah, right. Seriously, what do you want?” you rolled your eyes, nudging his arm lightly.
“Slurpees.” he shrugged.
“Are you serious?”
“Of course, why would I lie to you about wanting to get a slurpee? Or why would I lie to you ever? This is serious business, y/n.”
“Kenji. It’s literally the asscrack of the night and you woke me up to get slurpees?” you asked, trying to calmly reconfirm his statement, both angry and endeared because, it truly had been a while since the two of you had gotten to hang out, both of you having very busy lives.
“Mhmm. C’mon, I have to get my wisdom teeth out soon, who knows when I’ll be able to go on a slurpee run with you.” he whined, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye to give you a cheeky smile and handing you the AUX cord as an apology. You sighed, taking the AUX and putting on your guys’ favorite song. The two of you drove in a comfortable silence, enjoying the music and company. You and Futakuchi had gotten close during your first year of high school, hitting it off immediately when you told him you couldn’t see the board around his ridiculously tall frame. The two of you had gone on many late night adventures like this before this particular one and silently, you hoped there would be many more after as well.
“We’re here, your highness.” he joked, jerking you out of your thoughts and expertly parking (he always liked backing into parking spaces because “Don’t I look so sexy, y/n?”) and turning off the engine, grabbing his keys. “No! What are you doing?!” he exclaimed as you opened your door to get out.
“Uh. Getting slurpees in the middle of the night because my crackhead best friend kidnapped me for this?” you questioned, confused.
“No, no,” he ushered you back into the car and shut your door before you could protest, then proceeded to open it again for you. “I have to open the door for you, (y/n). Don’t you know how this works?”
“You’re so dumb it hurts.” you teased, grinning as you looped a hand around his offered forearm. He pulled open the door to the convenience store for you to enter, politely greeting the cashier as you both walked to the slurpee machine.
“Do you want your own or do you want to share?” he asked you, gesturing to the cups. You thought about it before deciding to share, letting Futakuchi decide what flavors you would be drinking before going to the candy section.
“Sour worms?” you asked, turning to look at his face as he rested his chin on your shoulder as he joined you in the aisle. You blushed slightly at the close proximity between your faces before quickly turning your face back to look at the candy.
“Of course.” he grinned at you, offering you a sip of the slurpee as you walked to the register to pay. You got your wallet out as the cashier told you guys your total and were about to get out your card when Futakuchi snatched and pocketed your wallet, swiftly paying for your transaction.
“Kenji!” you whined, slapping his arm lightly as he grabbed your items and walked to his car.
“You can pay next time, y/n.” he replied, going to sit on the hood of his car.
“You say that every time.” you pouted, sitting next to him and slouching.
“Then I guess you have to join me next time too.” he grinned, ruffling your hair and handing you the slurpy so he could open the bag of candy.
“I could just never join you again. Then you’d never get your money back.” you joked, taking a big sip of your slurpy before immediately regretting it, brain freeze kicking in.
“That’s what you get for saying things like that.” he cackled as you clutched your head, casually stuffing candy in his mouth as he watched your suffering.
“Do you want to sit inside the car?” he asked you, noticing your shivering.
“No, I wanna look at the stars.” you said, shaking your head. He opened his arms for you to scoot closer to him, engulfing you in warmth immediately when you did so. He mumbled something into your shoulder as he pulled you close, arms circling around your waist.
“What was that?” you asked, looking down at him, unable to see his face tucked into your shoulder from behind.
“I said, the stars don’t matter cuz you outshine them all.” he repeated sheepishly, his face growing warm against your shoulder. Even after all these years, it still gave you butterflies whenever Futakuchi showed his softer side around you.
“Yeah well, I wouldn’t have gotten you this close if I didn’t say that, right?” you responded, your face flushing to mirror his own as he sat up straight to look at you.
“Who said that?” he asked you, gazes locking intensely, drink and snacks forgotten as you both subconsciously began to lean in closer. Deciding it was now or never, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer and closing the distance between you two. He responded immediately, like a sigh of relief, no longer needing to hide your feelings from each other, pouring everything into the kiss. When you pulled apart, he looked at you goofily.
“God, we are so gross and cheesy this is disgusting.” you laughed, staring at him in a bit of a daze.
“You literally are freezing your ass off because you want to look at the stars, that is so cliche and cheesy.” he said to you.
“You said I outshine the stars! That’s even worse than wanting to look at the stars! Stars are pretty.” you pouted, trying to stop your chattering teeth.
“Sorry, what was that, I can’t hear you over your shivering.” Futakuchi snickered.
“Aren’t you supposed to give me your jacket. This is already super cliche so you should just dive straight into it.” you shot back, pout deepening.
“But you said being cheesy is gross.” he said, tugging on your jutted out bottom lip jokingly. Nevertheless, he unzipped his oversized jacket and patted his lap so you could slip your arms in the arm holes and sit on his lap, back against his front so he could rezip the jacket and place your guys’ hands in your lap.
“You’re glad we went on this late night slurpee run.” he teased, wiggling your guys’ arms around in the shared sleeves.
“Shut up and kiss me again.” you mumbled, twisting around so you could reach his lips as he leaned forward as well. Maybe answering your phone wasn’t a bad idea after all.

First Love, First Heartbreak
Atsumu breakup angst
warnings: angst, one(?) curse word
word count: 2521
It’s definitely cheesy, but you could safely say, Atsumu was your first love. Your first everything, in fact. He was the first person you ever seriously liked and pursued, the first person you went on a date with, your first kiss, and genuinely, the first person you loved.
Your first year of high school was a dream come true. You had met Atsumu at the beginning of the year and you guys had gotten together a little before halfway through the year. For your first date, he had taken you out for dinner before leading you to the waterfront. He spread out a blanket on the ground for you and gave you his sweater, claiming that he wanted to stargaze with you.
Not 15 minutes later however, fireworks began to go off from across the water, the occasion forgotten as you looked over at him in shock and excitement. He had the most loving smile on his face as he cupped your face in his hands.
“Can I kiss you?” he had asked as he stroked his thumb over your bottom lip, leaning in to capture your lips with his as soon as you agreed. You found out later that Atsumu had paid Osamu to follow behind you guys and take pictures of cute moments.
Although a little weird, the picture that Osamu had taken of you two, foreheads pressed together and dopey smiles (though Atsumu’s was more of a smirk) on your faces right after you pulled apart had been your phone screen for the past year and a half. It was his for about a year before he eventually changed it back to a picture of the volleyball team.
You remember confronting him about this, asking him at one point casually why he decided to change it, totally intending to tease him as it wasn’t a huge deal in your mind. Instead of playing along, Atsumu had gotten defensive about it, angry even.
“It’s just a wallpaper, y/n, why does it even matter, huh?”
You had attributed it to having a bad day or being stressed out and brushed it off, pushing it to the back of your mind easily. He had apologized for it after all, and he had never acted like that before anyways. He began to distance himself from you a few months later and he had just said it was because he didn’t want to end up snapping at you over stress. You knew he was very busy with volleyball, but slowly, you began to realize just how far the two of you had drifted.
But you could still remember the days that certain things changed. You remembered the exact day he started calling you by your name and not by a sweet pet name that he couldn’t get enough of. You remember the first day that he didn’t send you a good morning text, as well as the day that he didn’t reply to your goodnight text. You remembered the day that he stopped hugging you fully, opting instead to loosely throw an arm around you in response to your tight hugs.
And it’s not like he was being weird around everyone. He was still his normal, goofy self around everyone else. But with you, he was as serious as he gets when he serves. He was so serious and he seemed so bored and tired around you all the time. You remembered the day you realized this with a heavy heart.
You had dropped by at the end of practice, only to see him goofing around with everyone and cracking jokes...smiling a smile you hadn’t seen in months. However, you watched as Suna pointed you out to Atsumu, his smile immediately dropping as he said his goodbyes to everyone.
Now, all of these seem like fairly small events but stuff really starts to build over time and that time has been about 3 or so months now. You were patient, all your friends were constantly telling you that. Things like, “y/n, why don’t you dump him already?” and “y/n, why do you keep waiting around for him?” and each time, you would respond with “I love him a lot” or “He’s doing his best but he’s just really busy.” and each time you said it, you started to believe it less and less.
Did you really love Atsumu or did you love the idea of being in a relationship and the idea of the honeymoon phase you both shared. Was he doing his best to be with you while still maintaining his busy schedule or was he choosing his schedule over you and refusing to make any extra time for you. You began to ask yourself this over and over, finally deciding to give it a week after nationals were over to see if things would change.
See, nationals were sort of the break you were hoping the two of you would catch. Atsumu had always been dedicated to volleyball, that much was apparent, but before, he used to make time for you while still focusing the same amount on volleyball. As nationals began to approach, you began to see or even interact with him less and less. You kept trying to convince yourself that things would go back to normal after nationals were over.
But now, it’s been two weeks since nationals ended and nothing has changed. You had tried to ask Atsumu to meet up with you three times in the past week, only for him to ask for a raincheck. So now, you had to take things in your own hands.
“...what do you need, y/n?” Atsumu sighed into the phone immediately after answering your call.
“Are you free anytime soon? It’s kind of important.” you replied, patiently trying to ask if he had time for you once again.
“Um, can’t it wait? I’m kind of busy.”
“...no, it can’t wait.” you said nervously.
“What do you mean it can’t wait?” Atsumu asked. You could practically see him frowning in annoyance through the phone.
“It’s important, it really can’t wait.” you repeated more firmly.
“Yeah, okay. Just wait for me after practice tomorrow.” he sighed. He said a hasty goodbye before hanging up.
You lay in bed, staring at the ceiling numbly as you contemplated how you were going to do this. Your chest was tight, as if you needed to cry, but no tears came to your eyes. Pushing the thoughts of tomorrow away, you rolled over in bed and shut your eyes tightly, trying to go to sleep.
After an hour of tossing and turning, you dragged yourself out of bed, defeated, and begrudgingly walked over to your closet, grabbing out an old sweater Atsumu had forgotten he had left at your house, the last article of clothing of his you had left as he had already asked for everything else back at some point or another.
Curling back into a ball on your bed, surrounded by the once familiar scent of Atsumu, a combination of salonpas and the deodorant he used, you finally let loose the tears that had been building up as you realized, the same scent that used to be comforting now only held dread in it’s grasps as it engulfed your senses as you drifted off to sleep, dreaming of some of the better times during your relationship.
You dreamt about how he had tried to ask you out, approaching you nervously and asking if you were free to hang out with him sometime. You had teased him by asking if he meant hanging out as just friends and he had agreed, a dejected look on his face before you cracked, laughing and telling him that you liked him and wanted to date him.
You saw the birthday you had celebrated with him at your side. He had picked you up early in the morning, tossing you a hoodie as he urged you to get into the car. He had driven you down to the beach to watch the sunrise and had brought a little breakfast picnic basket with him. You had spent the day at the beach together, him having packed your swimming stuff with the help of your guardian.
And finally, you dreamt of one of the last days things had seemed normal. You had cuddled all day as he spoke about his worries for nationals. As you lay face to face, he had told you he loved you more than anything and confessed that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you. He had littered your face with kisses while he spoke about the future he wanted with you.
You woke up with a bitter taste in your mouth and dried tears on your face. You sighed as you realized the future you both had dreamt of wouldn’t be happening. His promises of a wedding and a house and lots of pets were just empty words now.
You dragged yourself through the school day and then wordlessly watched Atsumu during practice as you planned out what to say to him after practice. You were so deep in thought, you didn’t notice Atsumu leaving until Kita approached you.
“Good evening, l/n-san. Were you planning on leaving with Atsumu or were you waiting for something else?” he asked you kindly.
“Oh...yeah, I was waiting for Atsumu, is he done changing?” you replied.
“Yes, I believe I just saw him walking out, he may have thought you left already. If you hurry, you should be able to catch him.” you felt hurt bubble up in your chest at Kita’s statement as you thanked him and took off hurriedly after Atsumu.
“Atsumu!” you called out when you saw the boy’s figure in the distance. “I thought we were going to talk today.”
“Look y/n, I’m really tired. I’m busy okay, can’t this wait?” he said, tone coming out clipped as he shoved his hands in his pockets and kept walking. You stared at his back in shock before the anger set in.
“We’re done.” you snapped at him. That got his attention as he whipped around quickly to face you, a deep frown on his face.
“I just said I’m tired, I really don’t have time for your jokes.”
“I’m not joking. This isn’t a joke and neither are my feelings. We’re over. I’m breaking up with you.” you said, accentuating every reiteration of your statement.
“What’s gotten into you? Things are going fine, why do you suddenly want to break up?” he asked, annoyance slowly morphing into concern and confusion. Concern. That was an emotion you hadn’t seen him express for you in a long time.
“What do you mean things are going fine? When’s the last time we talked or hung out?” you exclaimed incredulously, throwing your hands up in the air.
“We talk all the time, y/n.” he said unconvincingly, his thoughtful expression clearly showing you he was trying to recall the last time you guys actually conversed.
“No we don’t. It’s just me asking you if you have time to hang out or even talk and you telling me you’re too busy. That’s not talking, that’s you blowing me off and shoving me to the side.” you snapped, angry at both him and yourself when you felt the knot in your stomach tightening as you forced down the tears.
“I was just busy with nationals, you know how important nationals are.” he shot back defensively.
“Nationals ended two weeks ago and you still have as little time for me as ever. This isn’t a matter of choosing between me and volleyball. The point is, before, you used to make time for me even with your volleyball schedule. Now you don’t even try. It’s not that you don’t have the time, it’s that you aren’t making time. You aren’t trying because you don’t- you don’t care about me anymore and I’m sick of it.” you ranted, voice cracking as the tears began to flow freely.
“Don’t say that. You know I care about you, doll.” Atsumu replied, his own voice hoarse with emotion as he reached out for you. You allowed him to pull you into a hug, though you refused to hug him back.
“I really can’t do this anymore, Atsumu.” you sniffed out when you finally got the tears under control.
“Baby, we can fix this. I can do better. I’ll be better.” Atsumu said desperately, stroking your head softly as his body trembled slightly as he began to cry a little as well.
“I know you can. But right now just isn’t the right time. Maybe in the future we can be together again…” you trailed off hopefully, though you both knew that the hopefulness in your statement showed your finality on your decision.
“...you can’t just expect me to let you go, let go of us.” Atsumu argued, hugging you more tightly.
“I think you let go of us a long time ago, Atsumu.” you said softly as you hugged him back. After a few moments, you loosened your grip around him, letting your arms fall back to your side, Atsumu reluctantly copying your actions. You both stared at each other silently, heartbreak written all over your faces but you knew that what you were doing was the right choice and you prayed that someday he would realize that as well.
But in the moment, he definitely didn’t. As he watched your figure retreat, he wanted to call out to you, tell you that you were making a mistake by ending what you both shared. But he knew that you weren’t the one who had made the mistake. The end of your relationship was his fault and he knew that.
He thought back to a few weeks ago, or was it months, when Osamu brought up Atsumu’s relationship with you. Osamu had bluntly asked why Atsumu was taking a good s/o like you for granted. Atsumu had scoffed when Osamu said you’d leave him eventually if he kept up the shitty behavior.
Now he was realizing just how right his brother was. Why was he neglecting someone like you? You were always nothing but kind, why would he pass that up? You were the best thing that’s happened to him. A patient and understanding s/o who supported his dreams and he didn’t even give you the time of day.
And as the days passed and turned into weeks and months, Atsumu realized that you were right. You guys weren’t meant to be together. The timing wasn’t right. But now he could see how much happier you were. He was bringing you down by taking you for granted. He had hoped you would give him another chance to show that he could be better for you but...as he saw you move on, he knew he didn’t deserve it. And as he rethought your relationship and reminisced over your pictures together he understood. He understood why they call it a heartbreak.

Living with Kenma
Life when you and Kenma live together
warnings: uhhh spoilers for the manga/kenma’s job
okay so we know that kenma is a streamer/ceo/stonks boi
you guys had started dating in high school and by your guys' second year going to the same college, you had both made the big decision to move into an apartment together nearby the university you attended
living with kenma is very interesting to say the least
he's basically nocturnal to be honest
he starts his classes at around 10 am, he refuses to take classes any earlier
and then he ends at around 4 or 5 pm
so you guys will have dinner together and just spend time together and he'll start streaming at around 8 pm
by the time he's actually done with his day, it's 2 or 3 am and then he'll wind down with a personal game until 4 am and then finally go to sleep
sometimes, when you aren't too busy, he'll ask you if you want to join him and play with him for a stream for a few games
his fans absolutely love you, though stream always trolls him because he gets all flustered and smiley when you join him
he loves just sitting together and playing games for hours, it's his second favorite past time with you
first is of course, laying on your lap while he plays games and you play with his hair
for a while, he would ask you to help him rebleach his hair but after some point in college, he decided to give up because it was too much work so now he just asks you to help him cut it
now then
kenma is LOADED
like hella money from stonks and streams
he's not very confident in his ability to show affection to you normally so he'll buy you things instead
if you're sad or if something good happened or if he just feels like you need a reminder that he loves you, you'll end up coming home to find a bunch of stuff he bought you
it's not always expensive (although it definitely can be if you ever mention something expensive that you wanted) but more like a huge compilation of all the little things you offhandedly joked that you wanted
although once, you were complaining about your computer being slow while you were trying to write an essay late at night
and then the next day when he got back from school he had bought a new laptop for you
on days when you guys don't have school and neither of you are busy, you definitely sleep in waaaaaaaay more than you both should and you guys will order take out
if you ever workout at home, he likes to just sit on the couch and watch you subtly while he pretends to game
whenever you start getting tired he'll say something to help keep you motivated and it always helps you finish your workout because it lets you know that he's been watching and cheering you on silently the whole time
you guys shower together a lot
not in a sexual way, but in a very innocent and intimate way
always helps you wash your hair and your back
he just loves vibing in the warm water with you
your guys' apartment is never messy, not necessarily because kenma cleans but more so because he doesn't really make a mess to begin with
he likes keeping all his stuff in his little area so there's never much mess
kenma will never admit it but he loves how domestic living with you is and he wouldn't trade it for all the video games in the world
you're the best thing that's happened to him and living together just solidified that

Tsukishima with an s/o who has the same dynamic as Noya
request: “Can I request request Ushijima and Tsukishima with a s/o who has the same dynamic as Nishinoya”
warnings: none!!
okay honestly, out of the whole team besides yamaguchi, tsukki is probably closest to noya
when he first met you, he really did not vibe with your bubbly and determined personality
he already had to deal with noya during volleyball, he did not need more of this positivity in his life (or so he thought)
whenever you would try to talk to him, he would try to shut you down with a sarcastic comment
it did not work
like, not even a little bit
if anything, it made you more determined
“hey tsukki! how’s your day going?”
“well it’s bad now”
“oh that’s crazy, i wonder what happened. i know! i’ll help cheer you up!”
“no it’s bad because-“
“no worries tsukki, i’ll get your day back on track in no time!”
but you’re persistent
grumpy boy tsukki can’t deter you from making another friend, even if the new friend IS the grumpy boy
so you were always around him and yamaguchi
and when yams dropped that tsukki like strawberry shortcake, you KNEW what you had to do
so once you got home after school that day, you whipped up a strawberry shortcake for our grumpy dino boy
you gave it to him the next day and he definitely pretended to be annoyed
“what’s wrong with you, do you like me or something”
“yeah, i do.”
tsukki was NOT expecting you to answer seriously when he was just being sarcastic so he got defensive
“well,,,,why didn’t you say so earlier”
“why didn’t you say something?”
“shut up, i asked first.”
you made fun of him endlessly for the childish response he blurted in the heat of embarrassment
after you started dating, you quickly realized tsukki likes his privacy
so you guys are very private about your relationship
and by that i mean, if you try to hug him or hold his hand, he will not let you
it’s not that he’s embarrassed by your relationship, it’s that getting affection from you makes him feel VERY sappy and he WILL act soft
and he can’t let his grumpy boy facade slip
straight up, once you tried to hold his hand and he grabbed your wrist and turned it into a high five
if you try to hug him, he’ll turn around so your just hugging at his back while he stands there like a statue
but if you call him out on it, he’ll listen to whatever you say, even though he’ll act annoyed about it
“tsukki, you’re being so mean!!”
“i’m always like this”
“i want a piggy back ride though”
tanaka and noya definitely laugh and call him a simp when he bends down for you to get on his back immediately
he likes doing subtle little acts of service for you, like handing you a bottle of water randomly if he sees you haven’t been drinking
or carrying your bag for you before you can grab it and immediately starting to walk away
stuff like that
but he will not acknowledge that he’s doing anything
like whenever he does stuff like this, he refuses to look at you because he thinks it makes it seem casual
the blush on his face says otherwise though 🤪
you always end up cooing at him and poking his cheeks until he calls you annoying and turns his back to you to hide his beet red face
definitely makes you give him kisses as an apology
overall, you guys have a really funny dynamic to witness because tsukki acts so grumpy and tough and you call him out on it so easily and make him all soft and embarrassed

Ushijima with an s/o who has the same dynamic as Nishinoya
request: “Can I request request Ushijima and Tsukishima with a s/o who has the same dynamic as Nishinoya”
warnings: one(?) curse word
okay let’s start by saying, he was very confused by you at first
you guys are honestly very similar in the sense that you don’t sugarcoat your words, you’re both very straightforward
however you guys are on kind of opposite ends of that spectrum
he’s very stoic about his feelings and he expresses himself bluntly while you’re more expressive with your feelings so your words, while just as blunt, seem more constructive and encouraging
you met ushijima through tendou, who also had a similar personality to you except with a little extra pinch of crackhead
tbh your personality do be a mix of ushijima and tendou lowkey
your first encourter was oozing with awkwardness honestly
you had called him bro and he was dumbfounded
“we’ve just met, i don’t think i’m your brother.”
“ha, good one, you’re funny!”
he had simply stared at you blankly as you jokingly punched his arm, thinking he was memeing on you
“is this guy serious?” you had asked tendou, who was LOSING IT watching you and ushijima interact
but to both ushijima and tendou’s surprise, you ended up explaining the use of “bro” as a friendly term of endearment for people, not even just boys!
and that encounter was the foundation for the dynamic the both of you had
you would accidentally say some sort of slang in front of him or say something that isn’t meant to be taken literally, he would get confused, and you’d explain it to him
he never really applied any of the slang you taught him until tendou brought it up one day a few months into your friendship with ushijima
tendou had called him out for ignoring your explanations
and poor baby just wanted to prove that he WAS paying attention!!
which led to the dumpster fire that was his confession
he was just trying to show you that he pays attention to you when you talk so he called you bro
but you liked him and so from your point of view, this manz was literally bro-zoning you
especially because it sounded so forced coming from him, it seemed like he was emphasizing the bro-zone
so you went to tendou all upset about it so tendou had to whip ushijima into shape
and then things got worse
ushijima approached you and explained things to you and confessed by saying “i think i have developed feelings for you and i would enjoy if we could “netflix and chill” together sometime”
you were shocked
this dude asked you to netflix and chill with the most STOIC face you’d ever seen
“do you know what netflix and chill means?”
“it’s a slang for dating nowadays, correct?”
“....um. yeah, sure, i would like to date you. but please never refer to it as netflix and chill.”
you definitely had a very long talk with tendou after that confession happened but it was hard to be mad when he literally helped you guys get together
Bonus!!
first name basis also had a very awkward story!!!
now ushijima was already calling you y/n but you were still a little worried about calling him wakatoshi
but one day, you were going through shops and trying on dumb clothes so as a joke, you had him try on a fuckboy kind of shirt
y’know the type with the v-neck and holes in it
and when you saw him, you couldn’t help but yelling “wakaBROshi!”
only to be met with “it’s actually wakatoshi.”
and that’s how you ended up on first name basis 🥰

Ushijima with a short s/o
Tall farmer boy with a short s/o
warnings: none
okay so it’s no secret that ushijima is a toll boi
and it’s also no secret that you’re,,,not a toll boi
so the two of you together seemed strange to a lot of people at first, even to you guys
ushijima had asked you out and when he first took you to meet the team, the both of you were met with endless teasing from tendou but ushi quickly shut him down the moment he saw you were uncomfy
after that incident, everyone knew not to talk about the obvious height difference between the two of you
speaking of not talking about the height difference
ushijima never brings it up, mostly because it just doesn’t bother him
he loves you for you and not your height so how tall (or not tall in this case) you are doesn’t matter to him
that being said, he does love the cute moments that come with your guys’ height diffy
loves to put his hand on your head and ruffle your hair as a greeting
will definitely squat down a little so he can hear you better when you talk
not to be mean or make fun of you, but just because everything you say is important to him and he doesn’t want to miss a word
forehead kisses?
forehead kisses
it’s also become a tradition for him to pick you up for hugs after winning games because he feels on top of the world with the combination of you in his arms and another win under his belt
his absolute favorite thing is when you wear his volleyball merch
he LOVES to see you in his team jacket
something about how small you look and how the sleeves are too long
he loves to zip up your jackets for you in general, but especially when you’re wearing his volleyball jacket
if you show up to a game wearing his jersey?
i’m telling you, not a single spike of his is gonna get properly blocked he will be on fire
he definitely is very careful with you, especially at the beginning of your relationship
“toshi, i won’t break if you hug me” was definitely a common phrase
LOVES to cuddle with you
he will usually be the big spoon because he loves the way you fit perfectly in his arms
but sometimes he has a rough day and just wants to feel loved so you’re the big spoon
especially loves when he’s the little spoon and you just toss a leg over both of his just to cuddle him closer
in general, your height doesn’t matter to him, he would find cute things to do with you regardless of your height
he loves you for you and your height is just another thing that makes up who you are

The Scent of Coffee
Bokuto with an s/o who needs caffeine
warnings: uhh implied headaches from caffeine withdrawal (this is a real thing that sucks booty, be careful friendos)
word count: 1569
You and Bokuto were a total power couple. You were a year younger than him, meeting him through Akaashi, who was in your class, but you were still the power couple of Fukurodani. They say opposites attract but they never talk about how people who are extremely similar attract as well, such as the case of you and Bokuto. It’s well known that Bokuto is extremely energetic (usually) so imagine his surprise when Akaashi introduced him to someone who could match his energy!
Of course the three of you began to hang out and eventually, you and Bokuto ended up together, amplifying each other’s energy, much to Akaashi’s horror and dismay. Still fairly new into your relationship however, Bokuto hadn’t realized that you had an on and off switch for that energy, not unlike him. It was a Saturday morning when he found out.
Bokuto was going on his morning jog when his mind began to wander to you, his s/o who he loved as much as he loved volleyball. As his thoughts drifted to you, he quickly found himself standing at the doorway to your house instead of on the usual route he jogged.
He was a bit confused but excited as he knocked on the door to your household. He cheerfully (but respectfully!) greeted your guardian when they opened the door.
“Good morning, (Mr/Ms). l/n! How are you today?” he asked excitedly.
“I’m good, thank you Bokuto-kun. Here to see y/n, I assume?”
“Yeah, are they home right now?” Bokuto questioned eagerly.
“Yes, although I think they’re still asleep. You can go on ahead and wake them up if you’d like.” you guardian told Bokuto, who thanked them before leaving his shoes by the door and making his way to his room to wake you up.
“Good morning, y/n!” he called loudly as he opened the door to your room. To his surprise, you didn’t budge from your slumber at all.
“y/n?” he asked, gently shaking your shoulder in an attempt to wake you. You groaned but simply rolled over from your side to your stomach, still not waking up. Bokuto pouted and backed away, wracking his head for a solution, nodding to himself solemnly as one popped into his head.
“Y/N!” he yelled as he tackled jumped on top of you, splaying his limbs out to fully plop onto you. This ripped you from your peaceful slumber as you screamed in shock, trying to swing at your attacker but only succeeding in hitting your boyfriend’s toned arms.
“Owwww y/n, stop hitting me.” Bokuto whined, grabbing arms and burrowing his face in your neck as he trapped you under his strong frame.
“You’re killing me!” you wheezed jokingly, a hint of seriousness sneaking into your statement as your boyfriend completely laying on top of you wasn’t it making it very easy to breathe.
“AHH! NO Y/N, YOU CAN’T DIE, I LOVE YOU!!!” Bokuto yelled, rolling off of you and shaking your shoulders frantically to make sure you were okay, concern flooding his honey colored irises as you simply closed your eyes and lay back down.
“Kou, what are you doing here?” you asked him sleepily as you burrowed under the covers once more.
“I was going for a jog but I started thinking about you and somehow I ended up running here to see you!” he replied cheekily, receiving  hum from you. He frowned as he looked at you worriedly.
“y/n, what’s wrong?” he asked, concerned at your lack of response as you would normally be ecstatic and touched by him coming over to see you.
“Nothing.” you replied simply, trying to keep hold of the sleepy state you were currently still in and making grabby hands at Bokuto so he would lay down with you.
“Are you mad at me for waking you up? I’m sorry if you are, I didn’t mean to hurt you or make you upset.” he said sadly, causing you to immediately sit up alongside him, looking at his deflated firgure and noting his remorseful gaze focused on the ground.
“No, I’m not mad at you Kou. I just haven’t had any caffeine yet. I usually wake up with a headache that doesn’t go away until I have some caffeine so I was gonna sleep some more with you here. I’m not mad at you honey, I couldn’t be mad at my sweet boyfriend for visiting me.” you assured sweetly, voice laced with sleep but as genuine as ever.
“You promise?” he asked you carefully, not wanting to let the subject go if you were upset with him.
“Yes, I promise. I love you and I think it was really sweet of you to come by and see me on your day off.” you smiled, laying back down and attempting once more to pull him down to lay with you.
“How about I go make you some coffee? You can lay down or do whatever you want while I’m gone!” he suggested, brushing your hair out of your face gently.
“Mmm that sounds nice.” you said, sighing as you sat up and stretched. “Can we cuddle afterwards though?”
“Of course! We can cuddle allllll day if you want to!” he exclaimed, excitedly giving you a kiss on the cheek as he stood up to make your coffee.
“Okay. But come back soon? I miss you already.” you said, pouting slightly.
“Alright baby, I’ll hurry.” he chuckled as he kissed your nose to get you to ease your pout. As he stood to make his way to your kitchen, you also stood to go to the bathroom to wash your face and brush your teeth.
Bokuto made his way down to your kitchen, greeting your guardian politely once again as he did so.
“Is it alright if I make y/n some coffee?” he asked your guardian.
“Of course, go right ahead.” they replied, smiling at him as they exited the kitchen.
‘Hmm okay. Brewing coffee is easy enough, but what does y/n put in their coffee again????’ Bokuto racked his brain, trying to remember exactly how you make your coffee and what you put in it as he brewed black coffee as the base. He frantically scurried around the kitchen as he dumped in the things he was certain you put in your coffee.
‘Should I use a measuring cup? How much of this stuff does y/n put in?? Gah, I should have paid more attention.’ Bokuto paced in stress before accepting defeat, unable to remember if he was missing anything.
As he walked back to your room, carefully holding your cup of steaming coffee in one hand, he found that you were already back in bed, the blankets kicked aside to wait for him. Your smile widened as you smelled the coffee that your greek god of a boyfriend had brought you.
“That smells delicious, Kou.” you smiled, patting the space on the bed next to you.
“I hope you like it! I think I remembered all the things you usually put in it.” he said, staring nervously as you took a sip.
“It’s perfect, Kou. Thank you so much.” you grinned, kissing him sweetly as thanks. You held the cup out to him to taste and he gingerly took a sip, quickly grimacing at the taste.
“Yuck, I don’t know how you can drink that stuff, y/n.” he said, handing you back the cup quickly. You giggled at his reaction and tapped the tip of his scrunched up nose.
“I didn’t really like it much at first, it was more of a practical necessity thing but now I get headaches if I don’t drink any and I end up not being able to be myself because I’m cranky.” you said, leaning on your boyfriend’s shoulder.
“That’s not fair, you shouldn’t be in pain ever.” Bokuto pouted at you.
“It’s okay, I’m used to it by now, I even like itnow! If coffee is all it takes to make me feel better, I can with that if it means that I can be myself and not worry about anything and hang out with you all the time.” you grinned. Bokuto looked at you, touched, before leaning down to pepper kisses all over your face.
“Kou, what’re you doing?” you asked, giggling at his cute actions.
“I’m kissing your headache away! I’m gonna give you kisses until your headache decides to leave you alone!” he promised, continuing in his mission as you finished your coffee. “Are you feeling any better, baby?”
“Hmm, I don’t know I think I could use some more kisses and maybe some cuddles.” you replied cheekily, grinning at you rboyfriend, who immediately lit up and placed your cup on you rnightstand for you before laying down with his arms open for you to lay in, which you did. It was silent for a few moments as you both began to get drowsy.
“You smell like coffee.” he mumbled into your hair, arms wrapped around you protectively as you laid your head on his chest.
“Sorry.” you replied sheepishly.
“It’s okay. I don’t really like the taste but the smell is okay. That’s what you usually smell like so it’s my favorite smell now.” Bokuto assured you.
“Yeah, I guess the smell really grows on you.” you whispered as you both fell into a deep sleep.

Who Cares What They Think?
Tsukishima with an s/o whose classmates say Tsukki doesn’t actually like them
warnings: self doubt, mean people, soft!Kei cuz I feel like he’d be hella soft with an s/o
word count: 1360
You and Tsukishima had been dating for a while now. He had confessed to you one day out of the blue and you happily accepted as you had been working up the courage to confess to him yourself for quite some time. You were never really into PDA, something that Tsukki appreciated greatly, however, you guys made up for it in private. Contrary to how Tsukki normally acts, when it’s just the two of you, he lets his walls down and he’s more affectionate than you could imagine. However, because of this, not many people know this side of Tsukki so they assume differently.
You were on your way to the gym to meet up with Tsukki before practice started when you overheard some of your classmates whispering.
    “Look, that’s them.”
“Don’t you feel sorry for them?”
“They must be super desperate if they can put up with that.”
“Put up with what?” you asked boldly, approaching your classmates with your head held high and your shoulders squared.
“With Tsukishima, of course.” your classmate retorted, looking at you with pity in her eyes.
“What do you mean? Kei and I are perfectly fine.” you snipped, glaring at her and her friends for making such assumptions.
“Come on. You can’t possibly be that naive. He probably doesn’t even like you, he’s only dating you because he feels bad for you.” she snorted at you, laughing to her friends who only grinned nervously.
“Kei loves me. He’s just not into public displays of affection. That doesn’t mean anything. Don’t act like you understand anything.” you growled, using anger to mask the bubbling hurt and insecurity building up in your chest.
“Don’t you ever wonder why that is? It’s not that he doesn’t like displaying his affection in public, it’s that he doesn’t like being seen with you in public. And who can blame him? Look at you, you’re pathetic. I feel sorry for him, he’s too nice, dating you out of pity. But it’s okay, I’m sure he’ll let you down easy when he finally gets fed up and stops pitying you.” you were silent as she spat all of this at you as if they were facts before turning around and walking away from the gym and walking home by yourself.
As you walked home, you felt your phone buzzing but ignored it, trying to fight back tears.
Just a little bit farther...don’t cry in public. You really are pathetic.
You ran through your front door quickly, rushing into your room and throwing your bag aside haphazardly as you flopped onto your bed, tears quickly rolling down your cheeks. Your phone kept buzzing and after a while, you decided to check it.
    Hey dummy, where are you?
Did you forget to come visit me?
    y/n, are you okay?
    Please respond, you’re scaring me.
Did I do something to make you mad at me?
I see that you’re reading my texts. What’s wrong?
You quickly threw your phone across your bed as Tsukki called you, deciding to just let it ring instead of actually declining his call. Soon enough, the calls and texts stopped, probably due to practice starting.
“If Kei comes over, please tell him I don’t want to see him right now.” you asked your guardian once your face went back to it’s normal color and wasn’t swollen anymore. You quickly went up to your room to do your homework, something you and Tsukki would usually do over facetime, before changing and going to bed so you could forget everything and avoid Tsukki’s calls and texts after practice was over.
You woke up the next morning to many calls and texts, spanning the entirety of the night. You tossed your phone in your bag before heading to shower and get ready for school. You left your house early to avoid Tsukki as he would normally stop by your house on the way to school to walk with you. Briefly, you scolded yourself for taking out your insecurities on your boyfriend but the thought of talking to him about it and bothering him ate you up with guilt. You figured that by talking to him less, he wouldn’t break up with you as quickly.
You wandered around the school instead of immediately going to your class because you knew Tsukki could find you in your class if you went and you wanted to avoid confrontation as much as possible. You didn’t want your whole class to see you get dumped. You mindlessly went through your day, immediately packing up your things and beginning to walk home as soon as school was done for the day. You were part way off of campus when a hand grabbed your wrist.
“Why are you avoiding me?” you refused to turn around and meet Tsukki’s gaze for fear that you would start crying.
“Are you going to break up with me now?” you asked quietly, trying to twist your arm out of his grip, which he let you do so as not to hurt you.
“Why would you say that. Do you want to break up?” he asked you, walking around you so that he was in front of you, urging you to look at him.
“I know you’re only dating me out of pity. Just...break up with me now instead of dragging me along.” you mumbled, tears welling up in your eyes.
“You can’t be serious, right? Where did you get that stupid idea?” he scoffed at you, figuring this was all just a prank.
“Why does it matter where I heard it, it’s true, isn’t it?” you snapped, looking him in the eye as the tears started falling from your eyes and making tracks down your cheeks.
“Don’t make crazy assumptions like that without even talking to me first. Where are you even getting this stuff from. Of course it’s not true. Why would I date you if I didn’t want to? If I was going to date someone out of pity I would date those lame classmates of yours. So, are you going to tell me what’s going on?” he asked you, nudging your shoulder with his arm.
“My classmates told me...they told me that you’re only dating me out of pity and that you don’t want to be seen in public with me and that you’ll break up with me as soon as you get tired of me.” you muttered, tears falling faster now.
“Stop crying. You know that’s not true, since when did you care what they think?” you said nothing, simply staring at the ground. “y/n. You know that isn’t true. I don’t pity you. I like you. I asked you out. Why would I go out of my way to ask you out if I pitied you? Your classmates are just jealous because you’re better than them and you’re happy. I don’t show you off in public because I don’t feel like I need to. Everyone already knows we’re dating and we know we’re dating. I don’t need to be half-assed affectionate in public when I can just be really affectionate when it’s just us.”
“You really want to date me?” you asked, looking up at your boyfriend, who gave you a rare, closed-eyed smile as he reached for your hand.
“Yes, y/n, I do want to date you. I’m very glad we started dating, I’m glad we’re dating right now, and I hope we keep dating for a long, long time.” he said sincerely, no sarcasm in his voice for once.
“I’m sorry, Kei.” you said, hugging him around his torso and you buried your face into his shirt.
“It’s okay, I’m sorry too. I love you, dummy.” he replied, hugging you tightly.
“I love you too.” Tsukki walked you home, deciding to skip practice to spend the day with you. The next day, Tsukki walked you to your classroom, and instead of going to his class, he walked you to your seat before grasping your face and kissing you in front of everyone in the classroom before telling you he’d see you during lunch, smirking at your classmates and leaving.

Train Rides
Train rides with Aone when you’re on the talkative side
warnings: none
word count: 1503
a/n: aone is a mf cutie patootie and everyone is legally required to love him :)
You were an incoming second year student at Dateko in class A. You had gotten dropped off at school for your first day but now, you had to take the train. When you got onto the train, you looked around to see if there was anyone you knew. The cart was fairly loaded, save for the seating area around a tall boy with short, light hair staring intently at the ground. Glancing at him again, you realized you recognized him from class so you sat next to him. His head immediately snapped up as he stared at you in shock when you sat down.
“I-I’m sorry, were you saving this seat for someone?” you asked worriedly, looking around to see if anyone was moving to sit where you had sat. He stared at you for a bit longer before shaking his head no.
“Oh, so I can sit here?’ you prodded, still a little unsure, however, your worries were eased when he nodded.
“Sorry, I think I recognized you from class so I thought I’d sit next to you...you know...because I recognize you from class.” you rambled nervously under his intense gaze.
“Yeah. I’m Aone Takanobu, from class.” he confirmed quietly, suddenly snapping his gaze away from you as he spoke.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m y/n!” you introduced, holding your hand out for him to shake. He stared at it briefly before tentatively shaking your hand quickly, purposely deadfishing you.
“You can shake my hand firmly, y’know. Don’t worry, my arm won’t come out.” you joked, grinning as he shook your hand more confidently. You both fell into a comfortable silence for the rest of the train ride, people giving you worried glances every once in a while. You walked to school together in that same comfortable silence, continuing until you reached your guys’ classroom, separating to go to your respective seats.
The next day, you were sprinting in order to catch the train having woken up late, thus left the house late. You barely made the train as the doors closed, leaning over to catch your breath as you weakly waved to Aone, who waved back, a glimmer of amusement present in his eyes. Suddenly, the train lurched forward, causing you to tumble towards the ground, Aone quickly leaning forward with his arms out to catch you before you could hit the floor.
“I-I’m so sorry, Aone-kun! Thank you for catching me! I’m so sorry!” you exclaimed as he gently helped you settle into the space next to him on the seat. As you sat down and brushed off your uniform and set down your bag, you suddenly blanched, turning towards Aone quickly, shocking the poor boy.
“I called you Aone-kun on accident, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to be too comfortable or disrespectful or-” “It’s okay.” he cut you off, patting your head lightly.
“Are you sure?” you asked him, to which he nodded at you. It was a few weeks into the school year when you began to develop feelings for the quiet boy, realizing your feelings when you noticed the disappointment you felt when he wasn’t on the train home some days. Finally, one day, you mustered up the courage to ask him about it.
“Say, Aone-kun...how come you don’t always take the train home?” you asked him in the morning.
“I have volleyball after school.” he said, gesturing to his extra bag.
“Ohh, I see! That’s so cool! Can I come watch you some time?” you asked him, not really thinking about your question in your excitement. He looked a little confused and startled but nodded in agreement nonetheless.
“Today?” he asked you shortly, a tinge of pink barely noticeable on his cheeks.
“Sure, that sounds great! Can we um...maybe take the train home together afterwards? I’ve never taken the train home that late.” you admitted shyly, looking up at him, redness definitely apparent on your cheeks. This caused his cheeks to deepen in color, as he nodded in agreement once again, turning away from you shyly.
You waited in excitement for the entirety of the school day, leg bouncing a little nervously as you snuck occasional glances at him throughout the day, looking away quickly and flushing as you saw him already looking at you each time you tried to subtly sneak a peek. Finally, at the end of the day, he approached you silently, a questioning glance in his eyes.
“Are you sure your team will be okay if I watch?” you asked him as you began to walk to the gym, looking up and sighing in relief as he nodded reassuringly. He walked you to the bleachers before gesturing to the club room, indicating that he had to change into his practice clothes.
“Good luck, Aone-kun!” you cheered as you saw him re-emerge, accidentally drawing the attention of his teammates as he nodded at you with a small smile tugging on his lips.
“Hm? Who’s that?” a brunette boy asked, nudging Aone in the ribs cheekily, Aone choosing to ignore him. You were enthralled as you watched the team practice. Aone was silent as ever but that seemed to add to his presence. The team was constantly practicing blocking, Aone always seeming to be the backbone of the block. You were in awe of the boy, a flush growing on your cheeks as he turned to see you gaping at his abilities. He quickly turned away, red creeping up his neck as he looked away quickly, causing his teammates to jokingly tease him lightly. As practice ended, Aone looked at you and gestured to the club room once more. When he came out this time, walking towards you, he had a light flush on his face as he avoided your gaze.
“Are you ready to go, Aone-kun?” you asked him, to which he nodded. As you began to walk towards the train station, you began light small talk. “That was incredible! You were unstoppable, nothing could get past you!” you praised, him thanking you softly, a small smile on his face at your excitement. As the two of you got on the train, you noticed it was more packed than it was in the mornings, no places to sit were available. You stood next to Aone, who grabbed one of the handles hanging off of the top of the train with ease. You reached up to try to grab a handle also, falling short by a significant amount. You reached up again, on your tiptoes this time, but still failed.
“y/n.” Aone called you gently, a small smile gracing his features. You looked up at him, distracted by his smile at first before realizing that he was patting his bicep, gesturing for you to hold onto his bicep as he held onto the handle. Shyly, you grabbed onto his toned arm, nervously looking up to silently ask him if he was sure that what you were doing was okay. In response, he simply placed his other hand on top of yours, causing both of you to flush deeply. You both stayed in that position, as still as possible until you reached your stop, bidding him thanks and goodnight with a hug as you got off. You walked home with a skip in your step the entire way home.
You quickly did your homework and went to bed, dreamily looking forward to the train ride to school in the morning as you drifted off to sleep. As you got on the train the next morning, you cheerfully greeted Aone as you took your usual seat next to him, a bit caught off guard as he greeted you back nervously. You were silent for the beginning of the train ride, figuring he was probably being different for a reason. After a while, he broke the silence, much to your surprise.
“y/n...I don’t have volleyball after school today.”  he began nervously, his quiet voice startling you out of your distracted thoughts.
“Oh. That’s nice, Aone-kun.” you replied, a little confused as to where your friend was going with his statement.
“I was wondering if you wanted to...go somewhere. After school...with me.” he asked you, avoiding your gaze as if his life depended on it.
“I-oh, that would be amazing, Aone-kun! I would love to go somewhere with you after school!” you exclaimed excitedly. You sat in silence for a while, faces red as you avoided eye contact with one another, before you reached over and tentatively put your hand on top of his. He stared at you, shocked and flustered before turning his hand over so that you were holding hands.
“Is this okay?” you asked him carefully, face on fire as he stared at you with hesitation.
“Yeah...this is nice.” he replied, giving you a genuine smile, eyes closing in happiness. You smiled back at him widely, both of you falling into silence as you enjoyed the train ride and each other’s company.
