My niece had wanted to see the puppies tonight but I had to explain that they were still at home because they had tummy aches (white lie). And she wanted to know why.
@wolfchanw : Well, they went to the doctor today to have surgery to remove their testicles and now they have tummy aches
Niece: *thinking hard* Sometimes, when I go to the doctor and he removes MY testicles I get a tummy ache too!
A lot of why I loved them was because I felt like I could relate to them. They were two guys doing silly things that I could watch and enjoy at the end of a really hard day. They were normal guys. They weren't like those other Hollywood people who try to pretend they're "one of us" from their mansions.
Which is why this video was a slap in the face.
People are saying that they're on thin ice. In my opinion, we've already been dunked into the river, and we're crawling out.
And you know what?
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
I hate to admit that I'd put them on a pedestal, but I kind of did. I've always been pretty realistic about famous people but somehow, they slipped past. And now I know better. It's a hard lesson, but it's one that we all need to learn at some point.
Am I happy with their resolution? Yeah.
Do I think that their characters have been terribly (and even possibly permanently) ruined as "just one of the guys". We know who they are, now. They're rich executives. They're privileged. They had so many Yes Men around them for years, and they let greed take over.
I don't doubt people will still watch their content. But I also think they're going to do so with new glasses on. And these three guys, who are so used to being viewed as the cool ghost boys are going to need to have to adjust to being seen as rich executives.
As someone in the comments of their Youtube Video said so well;
"You can say 'eat the rich' all you want, but you can still end up on the plate."
I think two statements with this whole thing can cexist;
They listened. Apologized. Were very accountable. Fixed the issue. Admitted to how insensitive and tone deaf what they said and did was. Etc.
And.
They are still rich. The comments and stuff they did were very insensitive, tone deaf, and outright cruel and not okay at all, and many people will never trust them again as they once did, many won't even ever watch again. Many people, while being able to accept the apology, will still want nothing to do with them after that, especially for us who genuinely are struggling in life with money. It was highly insulting and it makes you look at people differently after that.
