Final Reflection
Week 4 Discussion Mastery Journal 1) How has each course contributed to your personal and professional developmentas an instructional designer? This journey at Full Sail University has been interesting but fulfilling journey. Each course has contributed to my personal and professional development as an instructional designer. I have been able to experience a great deal of learning, hands on and application while attending this university. When I first came into the program, my experience with instructional design was very minimal, however, my introduction to instructional design – was not new. I’ve worked and partnered with instructional designers and have designed job aides, and curriculum throughout my career. However, Full Sail opened doors to programs that I’d never touched. It showed me a completely new world, a completely different perspective about what instructional design is all about. I leave this program a better designer who thinks before approaching a design. I understand the processes behind it and understand that it’s not all about the design, instruction includes content. As for personal development, this process gave me a humbling experience. Throughout my years of being a college student. I have been able to catch on to projects and understand processes very well. I felt very confident when coming into the university. However, as time progressed, I had to fall and get back up again. It taught me that in life you fall. When I realized my own faults, I was able to recoup and fix so that I wouldn’t be in the same predicament the next class. I also learned that it’s ok to fall, as long as you get up and keep moving. I also had several tough instances to happen while in this program… My mother in law passed away, my daughter ran away from home (she was living with my sister), etc. Turns out in the end, I was able to take on the advice of the instructors as well as my peers in order to get to where I am today. Most of all, I didn’t give up. I feel stronger, better and much wiser. 2) How well were you able to utilize the concepts and techniques you learned from theprogram (theories, systems design, interface styling, and the creation of multimediacontent) as you designed, developed, and implemented your Final Project? My final project was in the course Media Asset Creation. It was an RFP, TNA and assets to go along with the TNA (Training Needs Analysis). Theories -My first though when taking this approach was to determine which model to use. My mind quickly went back to the class Strategies for Learner Engagement. In this class, I learned and designed Models of Instructional Design (ADDIE, SAM, etc.). I considered the time constraints of each project and decided to use the Rapid Prototyping Model. The reason I chose this model is because the SME may not have been a real person to shadow or speak with, in my case, it was a website. This model allowed me the flexibility to design my work, review it (peer/instructor) and make necessary changes before pushing it to final stage. The learning for my curriculum was Diversity the Workplace. Systems Design – The architecture of the system was – and there were four learning modules all in which were video PowerPoint presentations, and quizzes. I also used Kahoots to build an interactive game for extra learning on teams. I used Canvas LMS to administer the system, which included a syllabus, announcement section, contact the instructor section as well as the learning sections. This system was configured to flow one after the other as the student followed through the course. My thought is, the simpler the system design is, the easier it is for the learner to grab. Interface Styling- When creating a curriculum or eLearning, you want to stay consistent. I delivered my eLearning with consistent fonts, colors and background throughout the entire project. This meant that I used the same font style and color palette across the entire system. Creation of Multimedia Content – I was able to deliver multimedia content through using the Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and XD programs. I also stepped outside of the box to the Vyond Studio to find characters and dress them accordingly. I used this approach for non-motion media. For my video, I must say that this was my favorite one. I wanted my story to come to life, so I used people from my organization. 3) Describe your most outstanding personal triumph in each course. Mastery: Personal Development and Leadership – Online – While in this class, I learned a lot about myself. The thing I remember most was learning about my childlike self in the lecture readings. The writer explained that it is best for one to get as close to their childlike mind because we are most like ourselves when we are a child (Greene, 2012, pg. 29). This was the inclination that he had for a Master, in which he called it a remarkable inclination. I agree with this whole heartedly because I found me in a more up close and personal way. Visual and Verbal Communications in Instructional Design – My biggest endeavor in this class was learning Adobe. Before Full Sail, I had not used Adobe, other than Acrobat or Reader. Photoshop, Illustrator and the rest were all very, very new to me. I was able to take the material that was very self-directed and produce acceptable work. Yes, we had Go to Trainings but that was not completely to show us how to, it was to describe the assignment. It wasn’t easy. Sometimes I wanted to throw the computer. But I maintained, and I did it. Strategies for Learner Engagement - This class for me was very engaging! The thing that stands out for me the most out of this class was the comment that Dr. Reo had given me regarding the Informational Poster Assignment. When I read the comment, it read something to the effect of, When I saw the batteries for the pros and cons… one was full, and one was empty, I chuckled and thought brilliant! I am using this as my most triumphant moment because it took forever to figure out the symbols to use these posters. I felt that my thinking and trial and error was not in vain. Corporate Training and Motivational Development – With the next two classes, they were the most challenging. Not because I couldn’t do the work but because my mother in law passed away suddenly during the first week on that Saturday before our research paper was due. This was especially hard because after her burial I had to travel for work. I was dealing with emotional and physical stress. My husband was very heart broken and having to help him through a tough time, school was very hard to manage, with work and kids, etc. The triumph for me was completing the class. Even though I made a B-, I finished passing without having to take the class again. Instructional Design and Evaluation -As said in the previous note, this class was challenging. My most triumphant moment was getting it done. Looking back on the class, I think that if I had just taken a moment to breath, I would’ve done better. However, when I’m experiencing troubles, I don’t think about breathing. I think of every way possible to try to get out of it. This was a personal milestone for me. When I reflect back on it, I have learned to sit back and evaluate, plan and attack. Even if I am having a tough time; and that is triumphant for me. Digital Media and Learning Applications – The best moment in this class for me was figuring out the coding in Brackets. I thought my God, that was the hardest thing! However, when I got to myself, again learning to take a minute to breathe. I did it! I was able to get it done and it worked! In the end I was happy with the results. Music and Audio for Instructional Design – Although everyone loved my Grimm’s Fairy tale in this class, I refuse to load it into my ePortfolio. I haven’t had the time to fix it. There was clipping and peaking in the narration and nope, I have decided that I am going to do another one at some point. I said all that to say, I learned BIG from that experience, which lead me into my final project for this class. That was to create a story and narrate it from an already made clip. I was able to take the instruction from my instructor and turn Pioneer Village into a tour guide, with voice acting and foley! This entire class showed me that I was a great narrator, and this is the part where I really thrive in instructional design. Not that I can’t design, I just have natural talent for narration. This class was the beginning of a turn around. Because I had a small set back and recouped from it, I was able to put my best foot forward the rest of the way. Filmmaking Principles for Instructional Design – My most triumph moment in this class was also a discovery. I learned how to produce a short film! I was so excited about doing this because it felt natural. I immediately connected with the software and assignments. There was no specific portion of this class that made me feel overwhelmed or difficult. Although most of my classes were live triumphant victories, this felt more like personal. I felt as if I was developing a personal characteristic about myself that was hidden subconsciously. Game Strategies and Motivation – The most delicate situation happened to me while in this class. My MAC crashed! It was without it for the duration of the class. I think I received it at the brink of the fourth week. I keep this significant to me, because although, I didn’t have my MAC, I was able to use my work computer which has the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Although it’s not MAC, I worked it out with PowerPoint and Snagit for my screen recordings. It was triumphant to me because I didn’t give up. I was able to turn in my work and received good grades for what I was working with. I appreciated the fact that I looked beyond my situation and resolved it myself without waiting for someone to help me. Learning Management Systems and Organization – This class felt like I was at work! However, the most triumphant portion of this class for me was again, reading my instructors feedback. He described the work and though processes that I had created as brilliant! I felt like Mr. Brown on Meet the Brown’s… “Who Me?” After all that I’ve been through – that felt great! I knew it was somewhere in there. Media Asset and Creation – My most outstanding Triumph in this course was knowing that in the end, I understood what I was doing. It felt good to put together a body of work from an RFP to form a TNA with assets. In this course, the training video that was created was done in two days. I misunderstood the instruction and explained my storyboard which my draft was and turned that in on Wednesday. When I received feedback from the instructor on the next day, she clarified that it had to be a real video. By that time, it was the end of the day and I had already left my job. My storyboard included live actors from my job that had already left to go home for the day. There was no way that I could get clips that day. Although all of my actors were not available, I pulled together a few clips with volunteers who were on second shift to turn in for instructor review. The very next day, I worked very hard to pull my storyboard to life with my actors. I stayed at the mill a few hours late and got as much as could get done. In the end, the video was successful. I pulled it off in little time at my own fault – but it was my biggest triumph. Final Instructional Design and Technology Project – I am very sure that I am not the only student that has said this, but my most triumphant experience about this class is that it is over! Reconnecting to the real world again feels really different. During this class, I have had the opportunity to reflect on every class that I have taken within this degree program. All of them by which, I have learned a great deal of material from. This class gave me the opportunity to put together projects to showcase in my real life using Behance and ePortfolio. Month 10 Mastery Reflection
Course Title: Learning Management Systems and Organization
I will use the RISE Model to give a self -reflection from this term
Reflect -Throughout this entire class was a learning experience. I learned the schema behind creating a learning management system. The organization behind it is to create the learning system according to the needs of the organization. The instructional designer is also to adhere to the fidelity of design, which is an honor system that instructional designers should all be aware of. I was able to grasp the connect and learn from it so that now and in the future, I can create an exceptional experience for a learner.
Inquire - If I had more time to create the LMS system, I would have taken the opportunity to add more content to my LMS. I often think to myself, what would my learner have to offer and how can the survey contribute to making my LMS system a better learning tool.
Suggest - I will keep the LMS system for the future for further evaluation. I want to continue through to understand how I can make it more effective, add more content and make it a viable resource for an HR Professional to learn how to conduct an effective employee investigation.
Evaluate- Throughout my evaluations, some of the feedback that was received from the instructor was that my mind map was one of the best in the class. He’d also stated that my LMS would be an effective tool and to continue to develop it even after this class. Feedback that was essential for me to have was as the instructor stated: Try not bunch projects, it makes for easier navigation and I will always remember to place my syllabus before modules.
This class was a very successful class, and I learned a great deal. I was able to utilize the skills and that I have learned throughout my journey here at FullSail University  during this term. In the future I will be able to utilize the skills that I learned and will continue to work to perfect my skills as a designer. I currently am an HR Specialist and am over the Training Department. I will use my skills everyday and will continue to strive for greatness as an instructional designer

Learning Management Systems Course Reflection
Should instructional designers be required to be industry certified to practice in the profession? Why or why not?
An instructional designer should be required to be industry certified. It is understood that there are some who can actually do the job and not be required to have industry certification, this is because they are great designers and are willing to understand how systems and processes work. However, being industry certified comes with so much more. “Be it instructor- based learning, eLearning, learning management system set-up, training delivery, or the like – you need someone with experience and a background in successful design and implementations” (Ferriman, 2013).
Instructional design certification is not just a piece of paper. It is the understanding of how to begin your design. It starts just not with designing, it comes with preparation and deciding whether or not you need to use ADDIE, SAM or Rapid Prototyping while in the design stages. Or if you need to use and implement other design principles into your work.
2. Explain why continuing education in instructional design and technology is important, and how you plan to continue to develop your technical skills to remain competitive in the field.
“Instructional design is the systematic development of an educational program; it incorporates concepts about how people learn and how best to present instruction” (Booth, 2018). Instructional design and technology focuses on developing materials for learning objectives and outcomes.
Continuing education in instructional design and technology was important to me because, it allowed me to really understand how to be a designer. I thought that I was a good designer before the program, but I did not understand the ins and outs of instructional design and really did not have good utilization skills of the technology. “While online learning’s popularity as a convenient way to gain skills and knowledge continues to grow, extensive research points to the necessity of certain key components to ensure effectiveness in designing educational programs that achieve specific learning goals and outcomes” (2018).
3. Considering how quickly eLearning theories and practices have evolved, and in anticipating more changes in the future, how will you ensure that you as an instructional design professional will keep abreast of future changes?
Theories in eLearning and practices have evolved greatly and over the years, it is suspected to evolve even more. It is said that learning should be intrinsic; eLearning should focus on how the learner learns therefore upholding and maintaining the learner’s natural autonomy.
In times to come as a designer, I will first follow the modality of design to ensure that as an instructional designer, I uphold a designer’s integrity. “To assist learners in processing information, practitioners have incorporated strategies into their instructional designs that direct attention, facilitate encoding and retrieval, and provide practice in a variety of contexts” (Dempsey & Reiser, 2012, p. 54). This is the focus intended. To become better and up to date, I will ensure that I attend classes and uptraining to keep my design skills afresh. This is what I expect to accomplish as an instructional designer.

My Mastery Journal Reflection During Term 8, we learned Film Making in Instructional Design. There were two projects with the main project being a tutorial using the instructional Story Telling method. I will evaluate my work using the RISE Model and will post screenshots of pictures of storyboards, clips, etc. Reflect-Going into this class, I was not very sure that I would be able to accomplish the tasks that we were to do. However, I put my game face on and tackled it. I have played around in iMovie with my iPhone, but nothing ever turned out right. I never dug deep enough into the program in order to utilize it. Going in to the class, I had blinders on. Throughout the class, I was able to take my blinders off, look at the course for what it was and complete each task given solid. After digging into the course and telling myself that I could do it. I was very successful. Still with a lot to learn, I took away a lot. It was a great experience and it’s the kind of experience that I will continue to utilize throughout my career. Inquire-While taking the course, I want to understand the mission of Full Sail and why they have their students take this course as a part of the Instructional Design Curriculum? Most IDT companies outsource instructional videos. Also, what was the purpose of using Conflicts Resolution as a title to create the first task, which was a video of how to resolve conflict? Suggest- After taking this class, I would suggest that Full Sail would provide a better camera in the Launchbox. I also wish that the Launcbox covered lights. I understand that this was an introductory to the film making world, but it would be perfect to have what you need at hand so that you have the right products and not have to fish and surf around for what you need. Evaluate- Overall, this class was a great learning experience. The instructor was very informational, personable and reasonable. This class was a crossover class for me, because it helped to ease my mind about the intensity of the program. I had a good beginning and a great ending in this class. I will utilize the tools I’ve learned in my professional career, and I’ve already begun to. Here are screenshots of prime projects completed in this class. You can also watch the videos that are posted on my page.

Month 7 Mastery Journal From Month 6 At Full Sail University
Reflection- This experience was a new experience for me. Before this, I had not seen the interface of coding. I learned a lot during these for weeks and I especially learned that coding is for the detailed oriented, or at least you must be very detailed while performing this action. In the end, I enjoyed the project as was able to prove successful with this class. Here is some feedback from the instructor
§ Be sure that lighting and contrast of colors works well over the background. Lighten it, darken it or change the font or color.
§ When creating Screen Flow projects, slow down. Give the viewer the opportunity to review the questions and answers.
§ Don’t squeeze or tighten photos, make sure that the viewers are able to decipher what the picture is reading.
My Peer Reviews were similar to the instructors. They gave me valuable feedback in the creation of this project. With ways to enhance and improve the overall project.
A question that was left unanswered for me was can I use this coding folder and instructions for other work? How can I link it to a real test?
Overall, I enjoyed the learning experience, and if I could do it all over again, it would be extremely awesome!

Video
1.     Explain your process in determining what questions to ask to assess the learners’ knowledge from watching the video.
The video that my test was created from was “The Sweet Smell of Life Support” from the NASA Science Cast website. While watching the video, as a viewer, there were certain criteria that I found to be intriguing. I felt as if my target audience (middle/high school students), would benefit from learning about the atmosphere of the International Space Station. I did not know that the air was sweet and pure, and I am sure that they would have thought the same thing.
2.     Describe the relationship of your authentic assessment to the interactive quiz. In what ways is it an effective assessment?
Quizzes are designed to measure comprehension of the video and the questions were asked based from the video in the assessment. “The model for assessment in authentic learning tends to focus on what educators typically call higher order thinking skills which focus on how students use their knowledge to create new ideas or demonstrate their analytical ability” (Gillard-Cook & West, 2015). The object has to be relevant to the learning mechanism to be effective.
3.     Describe the benefits of digital media in learning and assessing the effectiveness of the learning object.
Digital media is an effective way of learning an object. It can be seen, it is relatable to real life and it can be assessed. Students can watch and learn, they can also do as they have learned, very similar to the Gradual Release Model. It is a great tool of testing knowledge and listening skills.

In the previous course, I learned a lot about presentation and skill. I deeply believe that when presenting you should do it with skill. This class taught me that. The knowledge that I have taken away includes: Engaging your audience, use facts and data, make sure you start with a bang, a bang in the middle and end with a bang. If all of these elements are incorporated into a presentation, then the sponsor will feel like their needs are met, and your audience will be well please with the information that they have learned from the presentation.

My Experience with Visual and Verbal Learning Engagement
Over the last few weeks, we have spent a great deal of time in interpreting and translating infographic data about renewable energy to fit into presentation mode for an eLearning module.
The greatest take away was to understand the data by researching and reading the charts given so that the information narrated can match the presentation slides.
The Learning sciences behind the creation of the eLearning Module were the programs that were used to create it. I learned to use four new programs which were Adobe Illustrate, Keynote, QuickTime and ScreenFlow. These programs were used to create the presentation, record audio and screen recording. This was a positive experience for me and I hope that it would be an engaging experience for an audience.
