Really weird how many of you worship Shane and Ryan so hard that you're like "They have a right to be paid for their art!! Stop being a brat and support them!!"

Like it's not about whether or not I want them to make money. Obviously I do. It's about how they:

teased this as a big exciting update

have been dropping serious amounts of cash on shows that no one asked for

hinted in the video that they are doing this so that they can continue to do the big expensive shit that no one asked for

keep reminding us that Steven drives us a Tesla for some godforsaken reason

are acting like everyone on earth can afford the subscription and that international exchange rates don't exist

skipped over a million other options like patreon shows and ad-supported independent streaming before jumping straight into thinking they deserve a streaming service

Like can you stop being parasocial for one second and realize how fucking terribly this has been handled. They are showing zero respect to their audience both in their decision and how it was presented. Can you not look at that and think "Huh, maybe my guys fucked this one up?"

I’ve had hours cut then bullied to quit despite wanting to stay and just do my work at a job, and that feeling of out of control and unfairness of being blocked from wanting to do your work (+ capitalistic interests having a hand in it) was something I resonated with an ironic metaphor of being “laid off as a fan”.

made the mistake of expressing some grief and sharing that comment on the discord with many fellow patreons who are much more well off than me and dismissive of me. the reactions on other platforms are warranted following such news, very intense but such is the nature of the internet and such a community. gatekeep that server and call more reactive comments as excessive and unnecessary. I ended my patreon and would be booted off that place anyways.

When they left buzzfeed I was at least happy knowing I could find them in a place where I could see them do what they love. And now I can’t come along this time and that is heartbreaking. I’ll miss them a lot.

thinking fondly of my friends who are from home and/or cannot celebrate the new year with their families. wishing kindness and strength to those who have been hurt by their family and cannot avoid being with them during the holidays. this pain is too familiar and though it has become more tolerable for me—it still hurts.

Call them, meet for tea, spend some time with them! practice whatever special secret traditions you share! celebrate the joy to spending another twelve lunar months together! allow yourself to be open and excited about new things to come.
