The sheer force of the room emptying upon dismissal made her breathe just a bit easier with the changing pressures-- it had been a long dragging day. The patchwork of notes and handouts she had built through the duration of the class was collected in one jagged pile as she attempted to hurry out with the fleshy mob. However, she was left with the change when she was further slowed when the papers in her grasp continually refused to be sequestered in the dark leather cavern of her backpack. A few pages slipped to the floor-- one further and out of out of her line of sight, forgotten-- the others were stretched for and collected. She pulled herself together and pushed a well-worn pencil through the base of her collapsing bun of hair, before exiting alone.

It wasn't until after she had showered and dressed in her pajamas back at her dorm, directing her thoughts for a long night of reviewing that she noticed a page of her research notes missing from the group she pulled out from her pack. Her heart dropped and she could feel prickling panic build in her throat up to the back of her eyes. Her eyes searched an invisible timeline of the day-- Courtyard? Study Hall? Her hand lunged for the coat hugging the back of her chair when the location hit her. Her tan trench coat was cinched around her, covering most of her haphazard appearance save the wide leg of her pajama pants and slim flip flops clicking furiously through the dimming expanse of the courtyard. Her hair hung wetly in penciled lines as she haunted the windows of one of the many academic buildings on campus. Her hands testing door after door for entrance, before she shouldered one in desperation. She briefly considered religious studies when one tested her then gave way and granted her access.

The low hum of a floor buffer could be heard in the hidden maze of rooms and corridors. Her pace slowed in deliberate search. Her ears were honed into the panic still settling in her and she couldn't acknowledge anything or anyone at this point. She reached the door of the room she had previously inhabited and had to dared herself to clasp the handle. In those few seconds before, she had hope, but the handle was dead- stiff from the life of day being sucked out of it. Her jaw clenched and her eyes welled up. A strand of hair whipped into her eyes as she pitched her emotions at the kick plate of the door. "God-fucking-damn-it." The words pushed through clenched teeth in quite rage. Her defeat was punctuated with a deep sigh and she waded back against the adjacent wall, sliding down to cool tile. Her head perked up for a moment. Maybe someone was in there? Didn't know it was locked? She grunted. The vast emptiness of the building, the rattling of vents and the strange calmness, suggested otherwise.
