This scene, guys! π€§ It's absolutely perfect, isn't it? And I love Judy's little sigh, at the very end of the clip. She always has the exact same reaction that we do in these situations...doesn't she? Judy really does speak for us all! π Judy Garland & Gene Kelly, in "Summer Stock" (1950). π€

These two! I mean...is there anything sweeter? π€§ And bonus points for that sailor suit! Oh, how I love you...MGM Wardrobe Department! π€ Incidentally, this was Gene's feature film directorial debut (he co-directed with Stanley Donen)...and it really is an impressive freshman effort! Pure magic! π Vera-Ellen & Gene Kelly, in "On The Town" (1949). π€

WARNING: Watching this clip could cause certain side effects. These may include, but are not limited to...feeling inordinately happy; smiling excessively; experiencing extreme warmth in your heart; and developing a deep and abiding admiration for Gene. Some individuals may even feel the need to become his unpaid, internet hype-person. π Wait...was that just me? π€ Sharon McManus & Gene Kelly, in "Anchors Aweigh" (1945). π€

Who was responsible for Gene's wardrobe in this movie? π€ Because I would like to offer them my sincerest gratitude, guys! π Okay...curiosity got the best of me...so I looked it up! The costume designer for this film was Tom Keogh. Judy's costumes were also quite stunning in this one. Nice work, Tom! π Judy Garland & Gene Kelly, in "The Pirate" (1948). π€

Gene released two television specials in 1959, and although they were a bit different in tone...both were just wonderful. This lovely clip is from the first of the two...a power-packed hour, featuring Liza Minnelli, Cherylene Lee & three gorgeous European Ballerinas (ballet superstar Claude Bessy, among them). It really is fun to look at this close up of Gene's face, while he talks about how much he loves women, isn't it? π But I think it's quite interesting for another reason. This segment (of which we're seeing only a tiny portion) was all about the different types of unrequited love that a man experiences in his life. And while I don't know the origin of this number (which included both monologue and dance), it was fairly lengthy, and it feels quite intimate in nature...almost self-reflective. Incidentally, this special aired in the period between Gene's first two marriages (he would marry Jeanne Coyne the following year), and not long after the his MGM contract ended...so it was definitely a transitional time for him (and perhaps a time of introspection). I obviously can't speak to his motives for creating this segment, but it really is very, very sweet. π Gene Kelly, appearing on "The Gene Kelly Show" (1959). π€

Why does this clip make me so happy? Is it the fact that Gene is totally using his "husky whisper voice" on Jack's mom? Maybe! You know I can't resist that! π€ But I also really love the fact that he tweeked the ending of this story just a bit. In his version...Jeremy (Gene's character, who was the peddler) gets a family; Jack gets a new dad; and Jack's...well...she gets Gene! π€ Oh, also...they all get rich! Why doesn't every story end this way? π Gene sure did know how to make us happy, didn't he? Hope this one gives you a smile! Love you guys! π Bobby Riha, Marian McKnight & Gene Kelly, appearing in "Jack And The Beanstalk" (1967).

This sweet scene makes me feel "confusion" (please pronounce in French)...in all the best possible ways, of course. π€ Honestly, I find Gene's whole vibe, here...to be completely irresistible. Anyone else? π In addition to all this sexy goodness...this lesser known film actually has several important distinctions. First of all, it was one of the very last movies that Gene ever made for MGM...premiering the same year that his longterm contract with them ended. Also...in addition to starring, he served as both producer and director, here. Incidentally, and in an incredibly sweet turn of events...his film production company was actually named for his daughter (and only child, at the time). This was "A Kerry Production," guys! π€§ Oh...one more thing...as you may know, Gene was a huge Francophile...and this film (which was set in France - and was, in fact, filmed on location there), definitely showcases his love for this beautiful country and it's people. This one really does feel personal, and very heartfelt. It's just lovely. π Barbara Laage & Gene Kelly, in "The Happy Road" (1957). π€
