Bucky stepped out of the cab and glanced at the line outside of Sanguis, what was once his speakeasy that was now the one of the hottest clubs in Brooklyn. The line stretched down the block and around the corner.
Humming lightly to himself, he straightened his jacket and strode straight toward the front door, but was stopped by the bouncer.
“Back of the line, man.”
Bucky chuckled and moved to push past him, but the man stopped him again.
“I said back of the line.”
Bucky tilted his head, shocked by the audacity of this - he sniffed - werewolf. “Do you know who I am?”
“Should I?” he countered.
Straightening to his full height, Bucky’s eyes were an icy blue. “I am the owner of this club.”
The bouncer leaned his head back and laughed. “My boss would disagree with you there.”
“No, I really don’t think Y/N would,” Bucky informed him with a smug look.
His eyes narrowed at Y/N’s name. Before he could speak, his earpiece crackled slightly as his orders came in. “Are you sure?” he murmured into the mic on his sleeve. Continuing after a pause for the other person’s response. “Alright. On my way.” He turned to address Bucky. “ You can follow me.”
Bucky gestured for him to lead the way, cockiness radiating off him. A tall broad man with long blonde hair nodded at them as he passed to take over on the door.
Bucky stayed a couple of steps behind the bouncer though he knew the way to the office. Outside the door he knocked twice.
“Enter.”
Bucky’s heart thudded in his chest. It had been nearly seventy years since he’d heard her voice.

He’s gone.
Those two words had imprinted themselves in Y/N’s mind ever since Natasha had uttered them to her ten years ago.
“What do you mean he’s gone? That’s not possible. He’s- he can’t be. You said the healers could save him!” she cried.
“They did. He’s alive. He made a full recovery. But once he was back on his feet he took off.”
“He took off? Without saying anything?” Her hand reached up to touch the necklace he’d given her just before this all started.
“He said he was sorry. And he asked me to give you this.” Natasha pulled the item from her pocket and offered it to Y/N.
She stared down at the familiar ring before looking back to her sire. “Why?”
“He didn’t say. But my guess is that he wants you to take his place.” The older woman noted.
“But that should be you. He’s your sire. You were his second in command.” While a part of her could not believe that James would ever want her to take his place, she knew that Natasha deserved that honour more than anyone else.
“And I like it that way. I work best in the shadows. You’re better suited for taking over the empire.” Natasha kept her other assumption to herself. It wouldn’t be helpful to share it with Bucky on the run.
“Do you think he’ll come back?” Y/N wondered.
“Eventually. Forever is a long time.”
There was a sigh that escaped her lips upon hearing her sire’s words. “Yeah, I guess it is.”
Y/N toyed with the signet ring, changing it from one hand to the other, as she sat in the back of the cab on her way from Indianapolis to Shelbyville.

The year was 1944. The Great Depression was long past Sir James and his clan, and with the emergence of another World War, it seemed that things were still not as lively as they used to be. Business was not necessarily as booming as it once was during the Twenties, not that it mattered all that much to the vampire. Wealth was not an issue to the man who came from Romanian nobility.
With Steve enlisting to fight in the Second World War, that just left James, Y/N and Natasha on their own. Things were rather somber for the most part, but it seemed that the oldest vampire on the planet had been keen on celebrating a certain special occasion. In fact, he had been counting down to it.
“Happy 150th birthday, sanguinis mei,” James grinned as he placed the piece of cake with a single candle in it in front of her.
“Technically I’m 173 years old and my birthday isn’t until October.” Y/N pointed out, a rather confused expression taking over her features.
“We don’t count mortal years, doll. Just blow out the candle and make a wish.” He told her as he offered her a toothy smile that showed off his fangs.
Following orders, she closed her eyes and blew out the candle.
“What did you wish for?” He asked, curiously.
She simply shook her head in response to his question. “I”m not telling. Then it won’t come true.”
“That’s not how wishes work.” He quipped with a raised eyebrow.
“It is absolutely how wishes work. I”m not telling you, James.” She said, shaking her head before she let out a soft chuckle.
“Fine, fine. Keep your secrets.” He shrugged her off.

At the turn of the twentieth century, Sir James decided to make the move across the pond, wanting a fresh start. Adopting the name of James Buchanan Barnes after the former president of the United States, and captivated by the American dream, he had managed to set up a speakeasy in Brooklyn. Before he knew it, his establishment became a safe place for all supernatural beings to unwind, and his business was booming as a result.
“Read ‘em and weep, boys. Full house, aces over queens.”
There was a chorus of groans from around the poker table, nearly loud enough to drown out the pretty bird singing. James smirked as he dragged the pile of chips towards himself.
“Getting pretty low on chips there, Rumlow,” he taunted.
“Don’t worry about me, Barnes. I feel my luck changing.” The werewolf sneered.
“I wouldn’t count on it. My lucky charm just walked in.” James remarked with a rather cheeky grin plastered across his face.

Almost everyone in Europe knew about the legend of Vlad the Impaler, the ruthless Voivode of Wallachia who was known for his brutal acts of war against the Ottoman and Hungarian forces. Vlad’s army was said to be the most cruel during the 1400s, led by Sir James of Transylvania, his most trusted soldier and General. Most people believed that it was Vlad who had the bodies of his enemies impaled on large spikes to scare off his enemies, but Sir James had been the mind behind it all. The true impaler, though he never liked to take the credit for his acts. Perhaps that was why no one really knew about Sir James.

Three Ducks and a Little Lad ~ Part 1
A/N: This is largely inspired by the TV show Baby Daddy & the Three Men and a Baby/Little Lady movies. I like to think this chaos trio would be the best dads ever, and Logan LaRue deserves better. Behold my mental gymnastics to make him Banksy and Spazaway’s child.
Summary: Life was looking good for 25 year old, Adam Banks. He was playing the sport he loved for his hometown team and about to move in with his two best friends. Could it get any better?
Maybe not, but it could get a lot more interesting. Life (and his little sister) had some major surprises for this cake-eater.
Characters/Relationships: Adam Banks, Charlie Conway, Fulton Reed, OC!Fiona Banks, Eventual Logan LaRue, Eventual Chadam (It’s a slowburn, and they’re dumbasses)
Rating: T
Series Warnings: Language, unplanned pregnancy, absentee mother
Chapter warning: language

It took three weeks for Adam to pack up and ship his whole life in Boston back to Minnesota.
True to his word Charlie, showed up with a chauffer’s hat and a sign in the arrivals lounge. He had been waiting for his best friend to arrive for over an hour.
Finally, Adam emerged, Ducks hockey bag in hand, and scanned the room. He rolled his eyes when he spotted Charlie but his smile was wide and indulgent. Charlie felt himself take a deep breath. It had been way too long.
“Seriously? Where did you even get a chauffer’s hat?”
“Borrowed it from Averman,” Charlie shrugged.
Adam shook his head. “Of course you did.”
“Bring it in, Banksy. You know you missed me.”
“Hardly,” he scoffed, but stepped into Charlie’s arms eagerly.
Charlie could feel the tension leave both their bodies as Adam crashed into him.
“Welcome home, Adam,” he whispered as he embraced him.
“It’s good to be home.”
The pair clung to each other for a full minute before stepping away. And if their eyes were rimmed red, neither of them mentioned it.
“So should we head to baggage claim?”
“This is it. Everything else is being shipped.”
“Oh cool. Okay. Well, in that case, the car is this way.”
Adam followed Charlie to his car, a new sedan, not ostentatious by any means, but a world away from the beat up clunker he drove through college.
“Are you hungry or do you want to head back to the house?”
“I’m kinda hungry. Can we go to the diner?”
“Of course. Mom will be so excited to see you.”
“I’m excited to see her too. How’s the diner doing?”
“It’s great. She loves running the place and business has been great.”
“That’s wonderful. So she’s happy?”
“She is. She’s busy. But she’s not pulling doubles and on her feet all day. And she has a great team with her.”
“I’m so glad to hear it.”
Tumblr media
Casey hurried over to the pair of them as soon as she spotted them, pulling Adam into a hug before holding him at arm’s length so she could “get a good look at him”. His cheeks flushed when she commented on how handsome he was, and Charlie (who definitely agreed) had to bite back a smile.
“How was your flight and moving?” Charlie asked as they settled in after his mother scurried back to her office.
“Pretty straight forward. The team arranged for all the movers. And I didn’t have to worry about housing thanks to you.”
“Do your folks know you’re back?”
“Not yet. They know I’m coming back sometime this week, but I didn’t give them my details.”
“Smart.” Charlie commented, stealing a handful of fries off his plate. “Give yourself some breathing room.”
Adam stole a steak tip in return.
“Mhmm. Plus Fiona wanted to get lunch before I saw them. Said she had something important to tell me.”
“How is she doing?”
“I’m not sure. I haven’t really talked to her much.”
Adam frowned, disappointment in himself clear in his tone.
“You’ve both been busy. But you’re here now. You’ll be able to be closer again,” Charlie soothed.
“I hope so. And I hope it’s good news.”
“I’m sure it will be. Maybe she’s gotten into that study abroad program she’s always talked about.”
“Maybe. That would be amazing. She’s been dying to go to Paris since we were kids.”
“When are you seeing her?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Good.”
“And how are you? Do you like playing for the Wild?”
“I do. It’s a great group of guys and the coaching team is top notch.”
“I think you’re biased,” Adam laughed.
“Well I have known Orion longer than anybody else. But that doesn’t mean I’m wrong. Our record speaks for itself.”
“That it does.”
“But seriously, you’re going to love it here.”
“There are certainly a lot perks.”
“And you’re looking at one of them.”
“Still such a cocky asshole.”
“And you love it.”
“Love is a strong word.”
Charlie just grinned and took a sip of his shake, waggling his eyebrows until Adam laughed.
“You’re impossible,” he declared, throwing a straw wrapper at him.
Tumblr media
They stayed chatting long enough that they ended up ordering more food, including dinner for Fulton.
“BANKS!” Fulton bellowed as soon as they opened up the door.
The enforcer pulled him into a suffocating hug, yanking him right off his feet and causing his spine to pop.
“Wow, I needed that,” he chuckled as he twisted back in forth. “It’s good to see you, man.”
“It’s good to see you too. You look great.”
“Thanks you too.”
“Ready to try the best beer in the midwest?” Fulton asked gesturing to the three cases of beer with Bash Bros Brew Co emblazoned on the side.
Adam, who was starting to feel the long day of travel, grimaced but before he could protest, Charlie piped up.
“Let him shower first and settle in. Then we can drink.”
“Sounds good.”
Charlie gave him a quick tour, showing him to the largest of the guest rooms which had an en suite bathroom.
“This place is amazing.”
“Thanks. We like it.”
Charlie attempted to sound casual, but Adam could hear the pride in his voice. He understood why having this house meant so much to him. He’d struggled all the way to the pros, doing his best to support himself and his mom. Adam was proud of him. He deserved everything he’d earned.
“Were you guys looking for such a large house when you started?”
“Not at all. But we loved the yard, and there was enough space for a gym and guest rooms for whichever Duck needs it.”
“And you’re sure you don’t mind me staying here long term?”
Charlie placed his hand on his shoulder and squeezed.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“Thank you, Charlie.”
“My pleasure, Banksy. Now go shower. Fulton has a lot of beer.”
His smile made Adam’s hearth thud. Man, he had missed home.

Leap ~ Bucky x Reader (Angel AU)
A/N: Hi my lovelies! So this is a follow up part to Fallen which I wrote about 3 years ago. The original piece was inspired by this gorgeous edit by the amazing, lovely @221bshrlocked. And I was going to turn it into a series, but decided I just wanted to finish it off with this one follow up. I hope you enjoy!
Summary: Life after your fall from grace
Characters/Pairings, Reader, Sam, Bucky; Bucky x Reader
Warnings: angst, mild language, fluffy ending
Word count: 1.6K
Divider by @firefly-graphics
Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
You had turned in the air in time to see Buck’s face one last time as you fell. You could see the acceptance and sadness mixing in his expression. It was all you could focus on as you shut your eyes and braced for impact.
I’m sorry, was the last thought before you lost consciousness. A silent prayer to him alone that you hope he heard.
“Y/n, are you okay? Y/n.”
The voice was muffled but familiar.
You fought against the fog in your brain as the voice continued to call to you.
“Y/n, can you open your eyes for me?”
“Sam?” you croaked out.
“Yeah, it’s me,” he let out a relieved chuckle.
You were finally able to open your eyes.
“There she is. Are you okay?”
“I- I don’t know.” You finally managed after opening and closing your mouth a few times.
“Are you hurt?”
You shook your head slowly.
“I don’t think so.”
“Can you move?”
“Yeah.”
He offered you his hand and helped you to your feet.
When you went to take a step your body pitched forward unused to the weight distribution without your wings.
“Whoa there. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah. I’m sure.”
“Alright, let’s get you back to my place and we can figure everything out.”
“Okay.”
Tumblr media
Apart from your missing wings, you barely looked rumpled. It must just be the inner turmoil you were feeling.
“Tea?” Sam offered, forcing you to tear your gaze away from your reflection.
“Sure. Thanks.”
You took the mug from him before settling into the leather armchair while he took a seat on the couch. The warmth of the drink surprised you. You weren’t used to experiencing the effects of temperature.
“How are you feeling?”
“A little disoriented I guess.”
“A fall from grace will do that to you.”
Your eyes widened.
“Wh-what are you talking about?”
Sam leaned forward, hands clasped, expression serious.
“I know what you are, y/n. Or I guess what you were.”
“How? And how did you find me?”
You began to panic. You knew there were hunters and collectors who had a penchant for finding fallen angels. You glanced down at the tea, wondering if he’d just slipped you a sedative.
“Relax. I’m not going to hurt you. An old friend reached out and asked me to look after you.”
“An old friend?”
“Bucky.”
Bucky? Why would he? How would he?
A million questions ran through your mind, but you settled for two.
“How do you know Bucky? Why would he ask you to look out for me?”
“Because I know what you’re going through.”
You scoffed.
“How could you possibly –,” You paused, as something clicked. A story Bucky had told you once long ago. “Sam. Samandriel. You were Bucky’s partner.”
“Eons ago but yes.”
“You fell.” You recalled.
“After my last partner was killed by a hunter. We shouldn’t have even been there. I had a crisis of faith after that,” he explained calmly, but you could still hear the pain in his voice. “I made a choice.”
“Oh, Sam. I’m so sorry.”
“Thank you. I’m still healing. But that’s why you were placed with me in the first place. Steve knew I would take care of you.”
“Thank you.”
You were quiet, trying to take in the new information in.
“How long have you been here?”
“Two hundred years, give or take.”
“But how.”
“We don’t have our grace but we still age more slowly than humans. You’ll have to move on periodically.”
You frowned but nodded.
“What did Bucky say when he came to see you?”
“He told me that you were going to fall. And that I should keep my eyes peeled for the signs.”
“Going to fall? When did he come to see you?” You asked, confused.
“A few days ago. Maybe a week after you left.”
“How did he-“
“Said he just had a feeling. That you’d fallen in love with the mortals.”
You were shocked at this revelation. He’d known before you’d even made the conscious decision.
“Was he right? Is that why you fell?” Sam asked, watching you closely.
“Partly. But that wasn’t the only thing I fell in love with.”
“Bucky,” Sam supplied when you didn’t elaborate.
“How did you know?”
“Just a hunch. Did you tell him?”
“No, Bucky is a model angel. He doesn’t have those types of feelings. He saw me as another member of the garrison.”
Or so you thought.
“I’m not sure that’s true.”
“Well, it’s too late to do anything about it now,” you muttered, cursing yourself.
“It’s never too late, y/n. Things will work out.”
Tumblr media
It took about six months for you to settle into your human life. And another six months to actually start enjoying it.
Sam was great, taking you under his wing and helping you get your life set up. Luckily your identity from your assignment was still intact.
To celebrate one year on Earth you and Sam had gotten dinner and then went to a bar down the road from your apartment. He had left to go to the bathroom, so you were scrolling through your phone and avoiding eye contact with anyone, so you didn’t react when someone leaned on the bar beside you to order a whiskey neat.
“Excuse me miss, but I have to ask, did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”
The voice was pleasant enough but you were annoyed, so instead of ignoring him you scoffed and rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, it did actually. Figuring out how to balance without eighty pound wings is the worst bit though,” you snarked as you whirled on him, voice sticking in your throat when you realized who it was.
“Hey, angel.”
You moved without conscious thought, and before you knew it you had thrown your arms around him and buried your face in his neck. His arms banded around you, clutching you just as tightly.
“Bucky? Are you really here?”
You couldn’t believe it was him, you’d had too many dreams that started out just like this.
“I’m here,” he smiled shyly, not dropping his hands when you pulled back.
You left yours resting on his chest.
“I can’t believe it. Are you on assignment?”
He shook his head.
“No. I’m here on my own.”
“Well, last time I checked angels don’t get vacation time. Won’t you get in trouble?”
“No one to get in trouble with anymore.”
You tilted your head, really looking at him.
His cheeks were flushed and you realized as your hands lay on his chest that there was a heart beating beneath your fingertips.
“You didn’t.”
His sheepish expression gave you all the answer you needed.
“Bucky.”
“Can we go talk somewhere more private?”
You nodded in shock.
“Why don’t you text Sam, angel. I’ll close out.”
“Right. Sam.”
You led him back to your apartment on autopilot. Your mind was spinning with possibilities.
“I’ll make us some tea if you want to have a seat,” he offered, already moving into the kitchen.
You dropped onto the couch, staring after him as he moved around your apartment like he’d lived there forever. By the time he had finished the tea you had collected yourself somewhat.
“Here you go. Three sugars and a splash of milk.”
“Thank you.”
“May I?’
Bucky gestured to the seat next to you, and you patted it.
“Of course.”
There was a long moment of silence as you both decided where to begin.
“So I guess you have a lot of questions.”
You let out a disbelieving huff.
“You could say that. If you like understatements.”
“Do you want to ask me? Or do you want me to just tell you the story first?”
You thought carefully for a moment before giving him the floor.
“You can start. I don’t even know where to begin.”
“Alright then. I guess the short version is that I gave up my grace so I could live on earth.”
“Why would you do that thought? I thought being an angel meant everything to you.”
Bucky sighed, folding and unfolding his fingers.
“For a long time, it did. But I found in the past 2 years that there is something more important to me.”
“What’s that?”
“You.”
“Me?” you squawked.
He chuckled and reached out to hold your hand.
“You. Is that really so surprising?”
“Yeah. Yeah it is.”
“You’ve always been special to me, y/n. And when you first got assigned to Earth, I didn’t want you to go. I fought with Steve over it actually.”
“Why?”
“Partly because I knew I would miss you. But mainly I had a feeling that you would fall in love with Earth.”
“How could you possibly have guessed that?”
The corner of his mouth twisted up.
“You were a model angel, but you also had more heart than the others. Earth would bring that out. And it did.”
“You knew I was going to fall.”
“From the moment you returned. I thought that I could let you go and be happy knowing you were where you were meant to be. But I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t bear to be without you.”
“I’ve only been gone for a year. Two I guess if you count my assignment. That’s a blink of an eye for you. How could you make such a rash decision?”
“A blink of an eye that lasted an eternity. Every moment without you was torture. I couldn’t go on.”
“So you fell… for me.”
He shook his head with a loving smile.
“I didn’t fall for you,” he grinned boyishly. “Well I did. But not like that. It wasn’t a fall. I leapt… to you. And I’d do it again. I love you, more than anything.”
Your heart swelled and you were certain it would burst.
“I love you too, Bucky.”

“Pssst, y/n, wake up.”
You grunted as the book you’d fallen asleep on was yanked out from under your arms.
“Uggh, what the hell, Buck?” you whined.
He flashed you a grin and hopped onto your desk.
“You were drooling all over the textbook. It was cute, but um the ink was going to start to run.”
“Shut up. I was not drooling.”
Still you subtly swiped at the corner of your mouth.
“Still jetlagged?”
“It was a busy weekend.”
“I saw the insta posts. You looked like you had fun.”
“I did. But then I had a family thing on Sunday and then we were hanging out with our new neighbors last night. And we may have stayed up too late.”
Too late was an understatement. You hadn’t called it until well after three in the morning.
Despite the clear tension between Pietro and Rogers, the six of you had had a good time. After you’d eaten almost the entire batch of cookies (you’d brought the rest over once Nat and Pietro showed up) you ordered pizzas and talked. Rogers and Wilson were good company, they knew how to tell a good story.
Nat and Rogers seemed to get along like a house on fire which didn’t sit well with you. But you chose to ignore it.
Buck shook his head, but his smile was fond.
“Well you’ll just have to get a lot of sleep tonight. As for right now, we have group meeting in ten.”
“Oh shit. I forgot. Thank you.”
“No problem. This might also help you stay awake.”
He handed you a cup of your favorite coffee from the campus café.
“You’re the best.”
“I know. Come on. Jim said he has a surprise.”
You took a long drag from your coffee and grabbed your notebook before getting up and following Buck down the hall to the conference room.
Tumblr media
“Hey you two, welcome back!” Karli greeted you, bouncing out of her seat to hug each of you.
Buck hugged her tightly. “Hey, kid.”
“It’s so good to see you.”
“Good to see you too. How was your summer?” you asked.
She shrugged slightly as she sat cross-legged in the chair. “It was good. I mean I was here the whole time.”
“That’s right. You RA’d right?”
“Yeah, and I took a couple of classes to get started on my master’s.”
“Overachiever,” you teased taking the seat beside her.
“Just like my mentor.”
She shot you a cheeky grin and you nudged her. You had missed your undergrad.
“Do you know what the surprise is?”
“Nope. Not a clue.”
“Where’s Walker?”
You blanched at the mention of him.
“Is he even still here?”
“Unfortunately yes,” Karli reported, wrinkling her nose. “I saw him on my way up. He was getting coffee.”
“Damn.”
“Speak of the devil,” Buck grumbled.
You looked at him, about to ask what he was talking about when you heard the man in question’s voice.
“Uggh.”
He walked in a moment later with a smug look on his face as he was speaking with Dr. Woo and Wilson.
You should have known.
Wilson smiled warmly and waved.
“Hey, neighbor.”
“Hi, neighbor. You didn’t tell me this was the research group you were joining.”
The other group members in the room looked back and forth between you.
“You two know each other?” Dr. Woo asked.
“Sam moved into my apartment building.”
“I thought that place had a waiting list a mile long,” Walker commented, eyeing Wilson suspiciously.
You refrained from rolling your eyes. Walker had come to your apartment for a farewell you hosted for Loki when he graduated the year before. Squarejaw had been obsessed with the building ever since. You couldn’t blame him, it was spectacular and super close to campus, but it never sat right with you how keen he was to move in.
“I’ve had my name in for a while. The timing just worked out,” Sam explained.
Walked didn’t look convinced.
“Well how about we finish introductions,” Dr. Woo interjected. “First of all, it is good to see everyone in person and not on a zoom call. As you can see we have a new member joining our group. This is Sam Wilson. He specializes in ancient Greek to Latin translational drift. Would you like to say a few words?”
“Just want to say hi and I’m very excited to join your group. I’ve been fascinated by your research for a long time, and I’m looking forward to diving in.”
“Why don’t we go around and introduce ourselves,” Dr. Woo instructed, gesturing to Buck.
“Hi, I’m Dr. Christopher Buckley. I’m a postdoc here in the Woo group. My research is mainly focused on Byzantine philology. Welcome.”
“Hello, you already know me. I’m a fourth year graduate student,” you grinned easily.
Sam had a comforting presence that you appreciated, and it helped that you were in your court.
“But my thesis is on re-interpreting myths from the original source material in a less gender biased way.”
“Very cool.”
Sam turned his attention to Karli, who straightened up in her seat.
“Hi, I’m Karli Morgenthau. I’m a senior classics student. My research is whatever Y/n tells me to do for the moment,” she laughed. “But I’ll be starting my honors thesis soon.”
“Very impressive.”
“I’m John Walker. I’m a fourth year graduate student as well as a second year law student. And I focus on classical legal systems.”
“That’s a lot,” Sam observed, though he sounded unimpressed.
“I can handle it,” he assured him smugly.
You and Karli shared a look, and Buck took a long drink of coffee. Even Dr. Woo cleared his throat uncomfortably.
“Well, now that we’ve all been introduced. Let’s get on to business.” He pulled a notebook from his satchel and flipped through it for a moment. “Good. Yes, here we are. Okay, so as you all know, the semester begins this Thursday. Based on the schedules you all sent me, group meeting will be Tuesdays at noon. Does that work for everyone?”
You all nodded or murmured your assent.
“Great. We’ll be doing journal clubs for the most part. But the first meeting of each month will be an update session.”
Dr. Woo continued down the list of items. You made careful notes of meetings and discussion sessions you would need to attend throughout the semester. It was going to be a busy few months for sure.
“And one last thing, to encourage collaboration across the departments, the university is hosting weekly seminars. I am in charge of recruiting speakers. It’s not technically mandatory, but if you could go and bring your friends I’d really appreciate it.”
You gave your advisor two thumbs up. It would be interesting to hear what was going on in different groups.
“Alright. I think that’s it. Does anyone have any questions?”
No one did.
“Well alright then. I will let you get back to your days. Y/n, do you have a moment?”
“Of course.”
“Sam, if you could wait outside for just a moment.”
“Sure thing.”
You remained seated while everyone else filed out. Sam pulled the door shut beside him.
“What’s up, Jim?”
“First of all, I wanted to say that I was very impressed by the work you did during your time abroad.”
“Oh. Thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t thank you enough for sponsoring the research trip.”
“It was my pleasure. Now, I know that you have a very busy semester ahead of you, but I wanted to ask if you would be willing to help Sam out and get him settled. Show him the lay of the land as it were.”
They really had thought of everything.
“Of course. I’d be happy to.”
“Good. Great. Thank you. I think his expertise may even be an asset for your project.”
“Yes, I think he will be.”
“Wonderful. And we are meeting tomorrow to discuss Karli’s project, yes?”
“Yes. At ten.”
“Great. Well, let’s go grab Sam and I’ll let you give him the rest of the tour. I have lunch with the dean.”
“Sounds good.”
Sam was leaning casually on the wall opposite the conference room when you exited.
“Y/n has agreed to show you around campus and she’ll answer any questions you have about the program. She’s an expert. I have to run to lunch with the dean, but I will see you back in my office at the end of the day to check in.”
“Excellent. Thanks so much, Jim.”
Sam shook his hand firmly before your advisor darted off.
“Why don’t I show you our office first. And then we can tour the rest of campus.”
“Lead the way.”
Tumblr media
You drained the last of your coffee and tossed the cup out as you headed down the hallway, side by side with him.
“So, how are you doing?” he asked.
“Tired. But okay. I assume Rogers told you about my breakdown yesterday.”
“Actually he didn’t tell me anything. Just said that we were slowing our plans down because it didn’t make tactical sense.”
“Oh.”
Rogers didn’t tell him everything? That was surprising.
“Well, I guess it all just got to me. But Rogers was actually nice about it, so that was good.”
“He’s a good guy. He just doesn’t know how to talk to beautiful women sometimes.”
You snorted and rolled your eyes.
“I highly doubt that is the problem.”
“Rogers doesn’t like variables.”
“Yeah, that was clear.”
“But he’s the best. He’ll keep you safe.”
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me.”
You dropped the conversation as you got back to the office. Opening the door you gestured inside.
“Welcome to the home of the Woo Crew.”
Sam guffawed.
“Is that really what you call it?”
“Mhmm. Jim says he hates, but he totally secretly loves it.”
“I can see that. The Woo crew,” he repeated, grinning. “I love it.”
