the โtumblr community invents a whole mafia movie apparently directed by martin scorsese with an official soundtrack, movie posters, screen caps, and all enough to make one question if that movie really did exist at all like a mandela effectโ was not part of my 2022 bingo card

Ok so
Tumblr we meet again after a while
Here's the thing. Going to college again is killing me from the inside but I have to do this because or else I'll not have enough attendance to pass so. I will use Tumblr to hold me accountable.
This week I'll have to go wed, thu, fri. Each day I'll post a picture of my outfit and a picture of my lunch and a picture of my campus and a picture during my commute.
Let's do this. Let's graduate from this bastardly place.

You know...like a boy's laugh? Like not his orchestrated laugh, not him trying to impress you laugh, not him trying to sound sassy to friends laugh. His real laugh. The kind he does when a puppy is licking his face. The kind he does when his sweater is too big for you and it looks funny. The kind he does while riding a roller coaster...like, open, and pure, and perfect. A boy's laugh.

Getting back into school
Spring semester is coming and that means prep before classes! It's very tempting to not do anything before they start, but habits take a while to develop so if you haven't already, here's some things to start doing before classes start to make the beginning of this semester easier!
Go over syllabi if available
Start getting on your sleep schedule
Meal prep menus
Clean your living areas
Read for at least an hour a day (to get you used to dedicating time to studying)
If you have textbooks, start going through them!
Get your car checked and get your maintenance done!
Declutter
Get your planner set up
Figure out your work schedule
Make sure the school is up to date with any necessary accommodations you may require and start letting your professors know too
Last minute dental work
Figure out vacation dates
Create a study plan and daily routine for discipline
If you find the textbook online for free, go ahead and share that link with your classmates they will love you
Learn to make some easy snacks like hummus, salsa, veggie soup, and fried rice
Go visit your classrooms to see how long the commute between classes is and figure out best walking paths
Put test dates in your calendar
Make a list in your notebooks about subjects, tests, etc to have a quick reference
Get a voice recorder
Make sure your computer software is up to date
Practice different focus methods so you don't have to try to do this while studying
Create or find a study Playlist!
Find a stress release activity
Make sure you have your comfort items
Look into mental health services at your college
Get baking soda for your fridge and sneakers
Find the library and know their hours
Please add any you do as well!!

ADHD anti-procrastination tip
For when other tips fail. No, forget the โtomato timerโ/pomodoro technique. Forget breaking things down into itty bity entries on your to-do list just so you can give yourself a sense of accomplishment for every basic step. Those are absolutely great, useful tips, but sometimes theyโre still not enough. Because the problem with those methods is that no matter how much you break it down, there will still be chunks of work that will seem big and insurmountable because theyโre objectively harder to complete than the rest of it, and you will dread them and put them off. Instead, you know what you should do instead?
Donโt start. Donโt try to โtrickโ yourself into starting, either, and donโt guilt yourelf over failing to startโฆ but DO perform some basic prep to make it easier for you to start way down the line.
What are some tasks associated with starting and completing that Big Taskโข for the deadline that are needed to do it well and efficiently? Tasks that by themselves are not hard, just potentially time-consuming and kinda boring and tasks which would only slow you down and sap your focus if you have to do them in the same chunk of hyperfocus as the Big Taskโข? Especially tasks that are hard to estimate in terms of how much time theyโd take (so that if you did them last-minute, youโd be stressing out if they took longer than expected)?
For example, if you have to write a report for a field trip and the deadline is months away, you will take your messy hand-written notes from the field trip and transcribe them to the computer (or just write them anew, neater and more legible). Now when you finally do start, even if itโs one day before the deadline, you wonโt have to do THAT just before you can start properly writing it.
Or if you have to write an essay and have a literature list, you can absolutely justโฆ download the papers and articles and collect the materials for it ahead of time, without planning to start right away. Maybe sort them into folders by topic if youโre feeling ambitious. Track down papers you canโt get access to or that are behind a paywall, maybe ask a supervisor for them.
If you have to write a lab report for an experiment, you can prepare yourself by collecting the data from the experiment, tossing unsuccessful or blurry photos (if applicable), labelling things correctly and just making sure you know whatโs what and whatโs where. Clear up in advance that you know what was done where, and ask questions at this stage if you donโt. So that when you do start the lab report, you wonโt have to stress out over not knowing something crucial and being too embarrassed to ask someone because the lab report is due in 8 hours and youโve only just started it.
This seems like an obvious tip but itโs amazing how much you can fail to do it if youโre used to relying on hyperfocus to get you through steps A through Z of a given task, all in the same session.
And the best part? You get to thank your past self for doing that work ahead of time. And maybe even slightly feel like a functional human being who prepares for things. And really, how often do you get to do that? Even if you still put off the โmainโ part of the work, itโs still a nice feeling and a nice change of pace from the usual self-loathing and anger at yourself you might feel when trying to power through a procrastinated project.

12-31-21
New spreads in a new journal! I have semester end exams in January so I gotta pump myself up.
I know 2021 was horrible for a lot of people due to the pandemic, politics, and a horde of other factors, and I hope they have better days ahead. Personally, 2021 was one of my better years recently. Probably my best year since high school. I found my identity and voice in many more ways than one.
I, like, everyone, am really skeptic about 2022. But a girl can hope, right?
Well then I'm gonna keep hoping. 2022 is going to give me some closure.
