delighted at the state of sheer confusion my extended family was in when for an entire red-light stop they had a heated conversation about whether the clearly genderqueer person in a tank top and skirt on the street was male or female

telling a fic writer their characterization is good is the god tier of compliments, and the fastest way to find someone who will commit murder for you

also seriously if a character isn’t white, i promise your only descriptive options aren’t food words and varying degrees of tan. it’s okay to say brown. pale brown! light brown! golden brown! medium brown! dark brown! deep brown! so many kinds of brown!

I know it’s like 3 weeks after christmas but shit happened and I only posted this christmas fic today... don’t judge me
-
They should have stepped down but they stood there, unsteady, taller than anything else in the store, kings of the aisles for a few moments more. Cas’ fingers were loosely wrapped around Dean’s elbow, steadying them both. He looked into Dean’s eyes like Dean couldn’t imagine anyone else looking. Like no one had looked before. And he didn’t move. It felt like the most precious moment of Dean’s life, standing right here, wobbling slightly under the fluorescents. He could feel the warmth of Cas’ breath against his face.
“What...” said a voice from below, suddenly, and there, at the mouth of the aisle, was a person attached to it. “...In hell are you doing, weirdoes?”

when you yell at receptionists, waitresses, retail workers - the only thing you're effectively doing is making someone else's day worse. let's just be clear on that. in most cases they're doing their best. in most cases what you're yelling about is not their responsibility. in most cases they would have given you anything you want just to make you go away. you're not better than them, you're not their boss, you don't own them or their time. you're just an asshole. don't be the person who makes someone else's day shittier.

So I worked pretty hard on this fic and I wanted to do something fun with it, so here’s a list of random out-of-context lines
“I wish someone looked at me the way Cas looks at a chocolate soufflé.”
“I wanted you to make friends with him, not make out with him behind a bush.”
“Dean is busy counting croissants.”
“I spent a long time working on that pie.”
“I’m not accepting judgment from someone whose outfit looks like a human crow costume.”

Beside him, Cas wiggled his foot in the mud, assessing the damage. “I trusted you,” he shot at Dean.
“Shouldn’t’ve,” Dean grinned.
Cas looked sideways at him. Tried not to smile.
Almost failed.
Then the focus in his eyes shifted. His head tilted to one side. Dean opened his mouth, but Cas put a hand against his chest.
His throat dried in one moment.
Cas looked back in the direction they’d come from. “I hear something.”
Dean watched his face, just a few inches away. Felt his hand against his lungs.
“Truce,” Cas said. Dean just stared. Couldn’t do anything but.
-
A few months after Dean has moved into town, rumors start spreading about him. Rumors that he's dangerous. That he's a killer. When he starts hearing the same rumors about his classmate Cas, he has a choice to make: get as far away as possible, against his best instincts, or get closer, against the warnings of everyone around him.
