Just wanted to point out something I noticed about the heros perception between kurogiri and shigaraki. After learning kurogiri used to be Shirakumo the heros immediately wanted to save him but after they learned shigaraki used to be Tenko they insisted he was still a villain. I mean both characters had no choice other than villainy due to their circumstances. The mental manipulation that shigaraki went through is on the same level as literally cutting into his brain and changing him into something twisted like what happened to kurogiri. It’s just interesting to see who the hero designate as the “good villains” (kurogiri and twice) and the “bad villains” (Dabi shigaraki, toga . Etc)

You make a good point! But I want to take it one step further. I'd argue that despite the apparent different treatment between "good" and "bad" victims, at the end of the day all of them suffer from othering and dehumanization in one way or another.

The heroes started sympathizing for Kurogiri once they realized his identity, yes, but they also didn't see him as a person anymore, only the shadow of who he once was. They tried to wipe out "Kurogiri" to bring back Shirakumo, and in the process didn't realize that despite the brainwashing, Kurogiri was still an individual as well. He wasn't programmed to grew attached to Shigaraki, only to be his guardian. The emotion was all his, not part of AFO's plan. Yet, once the heroes realize who he is, his wishes become essentially null. Nobody cares that he doesn't want to see Shigaraki hurt. They write off his affections for his charge as a part of his coding, and brush them off as unimportant. Stopping the League is their priority. It could be argued that they cannot empathize with Shigaraki because to them he is a monster, but my point here is that they don't fully empathize with Kurokumo, either. He just becomes someone on whose behalf to get angry, not someone to understand. It's a very self-serving sort of "justice".

As for Twice, yes, Hawks saw him as a good person and wanted to save him. But he similarly got objectified as someone to save for the heroes to feel better about themselves. His wishes as a person didn't matter. Twice tried to tell Hawks that he didn't want his "help" if it meant betraying the people who had given him a home, but Hawks didn't listen. He struck down the clones with the League's faces and kept only offering that "salvation" to Twice. The moment it became clear that Twice wouldn't relent, that he would keep trying to protect his friends, Hawks cut off his sympathy and killed him. Because again, stopping the League was his priority.
