IN THE SOUP
Alexander Rockwell
bitch I fucking love this movie
mmm this movie to me is like a nice spaghetti dinner with your grandma. idk I don't want to say much I just absolutely love this movie and wish it got more attention, but at the same time I enjoy the tight knit feeling this movie has from its lack of extreme success. overall the movie has a personal feeling, all the while a more sinister undertone develops from the actions of the characters in the film.
I don't understand why this movie didn't get overwhelmingly popular bc the plot is entertaining but more importantly (to me at least lmao) the camerawork ans style this movie has is gorgeous and satisfying.
I ❤️ THIS MOVIE, but it's not the type of movie I would watch with non cinephile friends

Jackie Brown
Quentin Tarantino
maybe I'm not rlly active in the quentin tarantino film community (I'm only now kind of getting into his stuff) but I feel like Jackie Brown isn't talked about as much as it should be. I think Jackie Brown is pretty perfectly tarantino, but it doesnt make itself seem "overly" so(if that makes sense) the dialouge is fun, the characters are well thought out and Jackie Brown herself presents as a girlboss in all meanings of the word. I'm trying not to really give spoilers (even though I'm really just starting this blog for myself to have a place to be a movie nerd) but the plot unfolds and reveals itself in such a satisfying way the gratification makes this movie all the better. In an interview about "Get Out", Tarantino mentions something along the lines of "a good movie doesn't reveal what's happening all at once, it gives it away slowly" or something like that. I'm nkt sure if uts the inate desire to feel smart by figuring out what's going on, or something completely different, but it seems the best TV and movies give the viewer the opportunity to figure it out themselves. Of course there was the Classic Tarantino Foot Shot, but overall I thought the movie gave female characters personalities and it's always nice to see them not being sexualized, especially with directors that can get a bad rep,, probably because of their cult following of film bros
reading that sentence back the bar is literally onnthe floor for so many male directors (just a warning I don't edit a single one of these posts I just let it stream of consciousness happen so its supriseing that i even looked back on what i wrote)
I rate this movie hmmmmmmm an 8ish/10 I think

The Godfather (I,II,III)
Francis Ford Coppola
LISTEN- UR PROBABLY THINKING.... "OOOOH BROTHER not even 3 posts in and this bitch has already mentioned the Godfather???!!!" Ik this might make me seem like the kind of person who makes fun of women for not knowing a lot of movies, only watches movies about white men directed by white men and overall has a very skewed takeaway from some films (cough cough I'm talking about you film bros) but I feel like there is obviously a genuine reason its popular! if a movie is good of course it will get attention (and i feel this can be looked down upon in the film community but popular doesnt mean overrated) once again I can't pinpoint really the exact reason i like this movie, but I will say THE SOUNDTRACK IS HFRHEHHSSH. when I first watch The Godfather I, I don't think i really got it, to be fair, I had a hard time hearing them and literally everything rides on your ability to watch the characters interactions lmao, but when I looked back and reflected upon it, I started liking it more and more; upon watching the second Godfather I went berserk and I think my 3rd eye was opened and I was finally understanding of what makes this such a lovable series. when Coppola transformed Mario Puzos novel into film, he focused more upon the dynamic between fathers and sons, and the effect they can leave them with, rather than it judt being a mafia story. watching this with my dad made me realize how many sons and fathers feel seen by this movie which is really cute (and why representation in entertainment is so important) but I don't think it's a movie judt for fathers and sons, obviously the family dynamics are beautifully done and everything is so rich and juicy with symbols, there is so much to look at and unpack and literally anyone can find something they like from this movie.
I rate the godfather a trillion out of something idk once again injustnrlly enjoy this trilogy

Dog Day Afternoon
Sidney Lumet
sweaty, gay and nervous al pacino, what more could a man want! following my last post, this is another movie high up on the ranks of movies I like. tbh idk why i like a lot of the movies I like but I think I can credit my enjoyment of dog day afternoon on the individual character interactions and ability Lumet had to make the characters feel real (well, they are bc its based off a true story but I mean more of a this-feels-like-real-interactions) and the movie surprisingly light hearted. also literally John Cazale slayed this role as he tends to do with all of his roles (poor fredo) I love that he's always incredibly strong supporting roles, being the underdog and literally supporting main actors and allowing them to shine. idk if he does It on purpose but I think it's honorable
idk what to rate this movie out of ten bc my brain doesn't work like that but I liked thisnmovie a whole lot!

Daisies (1966)
Věra Chytilová
lol idk how to start this blog so I'm just gonna start w some of my favorites, Daisies is just a fun silly movie for all those fun silly girls out there. (that's right this one is for the ladies.) I feel like there aren't that many movies of girls just being hedonists and having fun and there definitely weren't that many in the 60s when Dasises came out. As part of the new wave movement this film is on brand with its surrealism, editing and existential themes. I am lazy and will not being going into further depth with this, but it's a fairly popular "obscure" movie and I think it's a good intro to more cinephile films without it going too dark or too weird, and it adds a nice feminist perspective! however I do not know alot and may be extremely wrong but this is a blog for me and I rlly like this movie,
hmmm ratinf is hard I judt like movies and idk how to explain it, probably high up but not 100 bc I think it would b fun to see a bit more character personality, but that's not rllybthe point of this movie MD they are already pretty 3 dimensional, and the plot is just so fun
