Library studies & soul food
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[September 2022]
Worked on my current translation project in the library this week and it was so peaceful and productive. I sat in the reading Cafe area, where you can snack and drink in the library!
Also I could just grab dictionaries and encyclopedias for research so easily. I decided to try to work at least one day a week at the library now!
Do you like working/studying somewhere else than at home?
Bonus picture: my gluten and lactose free noodle-salmon-veggie-gratin 🤭
Have a nice weekend y'all!

Folks
If you haven’t heard of Store norske leksikon yet you are gonna love it. It’s a big ol online encyclopedia, all in Norwegian, with fantastic articles and tons of topics to learn about. If you’re at a B2 level and looking for more to read & learn vocab from it’s super helpful.
I’m interested in linguistics in general so I started on an article about dialekter i Norge and ended up going down a pleasant rabbit hole of other articles about various linguistic terms, theories about dialect change, and specific dialects of certain places (ie Bergen).
I haven’t explored all the topics but it looks like there is so so much there, whether you want to learn about people, history, scientific concepts, art, farming, geography — you name it!

studying in a café makes me 33% more efficient (yes that is a specific number because I calculated it) and the only reason for that is that I need everyone there to perceive me as hard-working and studious and intelligent and mysterious etc. etc.

My first Japanese novel translation 🎌
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✨ August translation picture dump ✨
Hello everyone, hope you're doing well?
We went for two weeks to South Korea and I worked on the Japanese novel project. Until now I translated 4 Manga, but an actual novel is a total different story.
From planning and reading to working on the translation, also the edit process. Everything is somehow larger and more time consuming.
I love it! 😍
Handed in an application for a stipend for working longer on the novel. Fingers crossed!
Hope you're studies are successful!

New study adventures ahead!
Tumblr media
So I'm a fulltime Japanese to German translator since the beginning of this year. Working freelance is really different and I need a variety of skill sets. Translated four manga until now, did some subtitles, correspondence translations and working on my first big novel for a big german publisher. Everything is exciting and frightening at the same time.
Still I want to learn more and want to see more of the world! So the last two weeks we were in Seoul, South Korea for our honeymoon. It was amazing and reminded me of Japan, but was also totally different. Still processing what we saw and what happend...
For my future study journey I chose to stay true to my passion of learning languages and other cultures through it! So, hopefully I'll find the time to study some Norwegian and Korean beginning this winter 😊
Wow, didn't expect this post to be an life update... But here we are! Hope you all are doing good, treating yourself well and staying true to your passions! ❤️

25/11/21 | I needed this blog to get me through online study, but now with classes in person and being able to study in the library I've found that I've not needed it as a crutch any more. So I'll still be posting here and there when I catch a nice aesthetic moment in my studies (and many times when I don't) but it's a busy busy postgrad life so my posts will likely be very sporadic

What kind of stuff do you usually translate?
Hello, thanks for the question!
I started with manga :') one will be published end of this month, so I'm very excited haha. Working on my fourth manga now. Also did interpreter stuff at big fairs, but I didn't like it as much as I like translating from media sources. Waiting atm for a light novel job answer, but can't talk about it by now 👀
Also did some YouTube subtitles for a Japan Vlogger! This was quite fun and a bit different from manga translation.
I'm hoping to get in touch with game translation or anime soon! I wanna try so many things for translation, hehe.
