@contagiousgrace the thoughts are in no particular order:

1. It is never appropriate to harass people for business decisions on their private accounts and the people sending hate or going to the wedding photos and being horrible in the comments were absolutely wrong for that.

2. Really very weird how much of the fandom was idolising Shane still when he is in fact also involved in the decision making and a grown man.

3. Telling the company to lay off some of their employees also not a take I liked to see.

However

4. Compared to other companies of the same size, probably they shouldn't have been in a situation where they ended up with that many employees for each video in the first place, and while firing them is a terrible idea the fact they got here at all indicates they need to have another look at their finances maybe?

5. The 'everyone can afford $6' was tone deaf ESPECIALLY as I think I saw the subscriptions wouldn't even be accessible globally? They'd be restricted to certain countries? Not an idea platform situation.

6. The videos of buying expensive stuff isn't going to be the main cost reason why they're struggling for money but again trying to bring that back looks bad right now.

7. Same with the focus on TV quality which is fair enough if they want it but if they're only putting out one video a week, people aren't going to pay streaming rates for that little, even if it is TV quality..

8. Essentially this isn't an Actively Evil move and people who think it is are weird and many people have behaved extremely poorly about it. But it does feel a. Like a poor financial decision to switch fully and immediately from YouTube to streaming like was originally planned when frankly people won't subscribe permanently, they'll binge and then cancel because there's not enough content, and b. Like they judged the tone wrong.

Reasons why expecting someone to not come up with the most bad faith interpretation of your post imaginable is evil:

What if English isn't their first language

What if they're a minor

What if they can't actually read

(and to clarify out of the joke if someone's first language is something other than English and they misinterpret a post that's literally so fine this is for when someone apparently purposefully twists what people are saying).
