Particularly at the beginning everyone refused to believe that I was the age I was. I remember seeing online articles around Wolf of Wall Street time - so I was 22 at the time and it’ll be like, ‘22 year old Australian actress’ and every comment below was like, “She’s not 22! This is the most ridiculous thing! all these actresses lie about their age!” I was like, how in this day and age could I possibly lie about my age?

At the end of the day, it’s not about replicating someone’s look I don’t think. I think you can waste a ton of time and money trying to do that and then it ends up being distracting for an audience member. I think what’s more important is to embody the spirit of that person, to understand their point of view, their persona, their characteristics, their mannerisms, their voice. Hopefully if you do that correctly the audience forgets everything else and just gets lost in the story.

It took me a lot of years to try and stop pleasing a lot of people and allow myself to have fun. It’s the difficult thing of getting out of your own head. When I think of all the women I know in my life, no one is just one thing. I don’t have my sexy friend, I don’t have my serious friend, I don’t have my funny friend - they all have this amazing array of characteristics. And it’s kind of fun to play characters keeping that in mind, and realising that OK, they may be this but they may also be something that’s totally contradictory. I think as women, we have contradicting opinions and characteristics all the time and I always wanna bring that across on-screen.
