United Colors of Prayer Flags by Brice Retailleau on Flickr
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. You can see them all across the Himalayas and beyond, and it never hurts. On the contrary: the flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. So what you see here, on the way to Pangong Tso, Ladakh, India, is a hugely efficient good vibrations and thoughts dispenser for all. And graphic too.

Wheel of Sarchí's Fortune by Brice Retailleau on Filckr
Costa Rica, land of bright colors. Sarchi, Costa Rican capital of painted carts. Put the two together and you get the largest painted wheel you can ever imagine. I would have had to stand in Nicaragua to make it entirely fit in the frame. Sort of.
(If you don't understand from the photographer's description: this is the painted wheel of the world's largest oxcart, an attraction in Sarchí, Costa Rica, a city famous for gorgeously painted carts, and also for now going right onto my bucket list.)

Umbrellas, All In by Brice Retailleau on Flickr
Hoi An is the prettiest town in Vietnam and possibly South East Asia. It shows all the way to the souvenir shops at night.

Sanding Prayers by Brice Retailleau on Flickr
Arriving in Hemis Monastery is special enough. Largest and richest temple in Ladakh, you need no extra to make your visit memorable. Unless you arrive just a few days after Hemis yearly main festival where, for a few days, several monks went on building this sand mandala too big to fit on anyone I know's table. The work goes almost one grain at a time. It takes incredible patience through meditation. It is also a symbole of the ephemeral aspect of life as monks are going to destroy it within hours. Gotta be wise to accept that, when you broke your back building it for days.
