Tumblr media
my motw game just hit our one year anniversary, so i drew a map of our town the celebrate!
[ID: An isometric, slightly cartoon-y digitally drawn map of a small town. There are many houses, a town square, various old buildings, and a lighthouse. The town sits on the ocean, with wooded hills behind it and the coast in the foreground. One long road runs near the coast, and a river divides the town on the right side. The faded, slightly yellow colors resemble that of a old and fading paper map. Over the ocean, black cursive letters read “Winchester Bay.” END ID]

1, 25, 27 for parch and 31 for sico :]
1. What kind of clothing does your character like to wear? do they have a style? anything they avoid wearing? Parch normally wears a glasses, button up, slacks, and like. boat shoes- but will wear just like loose t shirt and comfy pants around the house on weekends. 25. Do they keep books on their person? what kind? as a result of having a house and also a laptop with internet access, not really, but he does have some bad romance novels Penny teases him for reading in his house. 27. Do they write often? why/what about? Yes. So much. But its almost all reviews of pizza he's never eaten. That's capitalism. 31. Did they climb all over/onto things as a kid? Sico enjoyed climbing in the woods. Not so much in civilized spaces, his father wouldn't have minded much in private, but appearances are important. Plus climbing trees is fun. People don't look up much if their busy watching their own back.

Luke 10, Gianna 29, Tux 37! For the longer one
10. would they sneak out at night to look at the sky? how long would they stay there looking? No. He's an adult, in an apartment a few floors off the ground. But he does like to look at the stars through his window, especially when he wakes up from dreams in which all he can see is water. He doesn't like to leave the apartment after those dreams, either. 29. If they wear any, where did they get their jewelry? Hm this is a tricky one for me. I think that. She might be the type to wear a specific necklace routinely, one given as a gift by Giselle perhaps, or maybe her parents. Then cycles through a few pairs of earrings, getting one or two a year for her birthday, and when she has like a summer job she can get a couple cheap but cute ones. And doesn't like the feel of rings. Its all rather understated. I. Am not sure what the necklace is. But there's something in the back of my head. 37. How do they pass time on a train? When you've spent the past 5 years fighting (and being captured by) monsters, you tend to avoid public transport, so when he is on it, it's because he has to be, he mostly positions himself so his good eye can see the other passengers, then puts on a playlist, and hopes he doesn't have to call Bunny. Again-

kobus 22, parch 37
22. when they speak, do they have a default tone of voice? if yes, do they try to change it? why? Kobus' tone of voice at base is very dry. It's not indicative of their feelings, he just has to deal with spirits often enough that where it's not helpful to use normal ideas of "tone", even with Mina, but around humans they do put in an effort to snap out of that some, if he remembers. 37. How do they pass time on a train? Work! That is to say, looks up reviews of pizza places and creates his frankensteined review, before submitting it to his boss. It's a lucrative position.

D&D OC Ask Meme
For extra fun, roll a d20 for your question
IDK man I just want to ask my party questions and I’m too lazy to look for the right ask memes to do it subtley
1. Describe what your character would be if they were the exact opposite of what they are now. This can mean personality, class, alignment, whatever.
2. When you were creating this character, what was their original draft? Are they the same character you intended to make?
3. If you were to redo the campaign this character is/was in, what would you change about the character you created? Race? Class? Blood Type? Any/all of the above?
4. Of the other members of the party, which of them would you have chosen to play if all the options were premade and laid out in front of you?
5. What was the first time you really connected to this character, if ever? Why do you think this moment made the character special to you?
6. What NPC did you think was going to be more important than they were? Are there any NPCs that were more important than you expected?
7. Did you ever rewrite/revise their backstory during the campaign? How much of a change was it? How much do you think the DM cried, and how sorry do you feel for their tears?
8. What’s one weird personal headcanon you have for the character that’s not addressed or that you haven’t found a way to share yet?
9. What are your character’s relationships like with every member of their party? Bonus, if you want to write a short blurb on your character’s opinion of them.
10. Write up a short summary of your character. What makes them tick, their basic psychology. How do they appear from your perspective? Bonus: show it to your party, and ask how the character comes across to them. I just think it’s fun to do stuff like that :P
11. Who or what was your inspiration when creating this character? How does it show? This can be visual, backstory, personality, anything.
12. How has your character changed in response to their party members? Are these changes significant or small?
13. Take the Meyers-Brigg personality test for your character, if you dare. If you daren’t, take your vest guess at what their type is.
14. Have you made any aus for this character? If so, what? Which is your favorite? Which is most developed? Which deserves more development and attention?
15. What aesthetic do you think your character would fit best? This can mean anything from decade of choice to clothing style to [insert word]-core.
16. What jokes/memes do you have about your character? Are there any jokes that accidentally became canon in the universe?
17. Who is your favorite NPC? Least favorite? What about your character’s favorite and least favorite? Explain why!
18. Have you made any fanchildren between your character and an NPC or PC? Is their relationship canon? Tell us about the kids if you want or have them! Tell us about the characters’ lives together!
19. What bit of character development are you proudest of? What bit so you wish hasn’t happened? Is there any development you’re still waiting for?
20. How did you think your character would die when you started the campaign? How do you think they’ll die now? If they’re already dead, substitute that in for the second answer.

11, 21, 33 😤
11. Favorite NPC's I've played gonna do a rapid fire round of ones from each of my games: LMoP - Venomfang the dragon who became the bbeg, Linagroth - Silus, Seer of Storms and Patron of the PC's, Altruism - The Orphan King or Jerry, I enjoyed the former as a character, the demigod patron of the pcs, but the latter was so much fun because of how reviled he was, Monster Keep - Slex the Mind Flayer, similar to Jerry, this guy was absolutely despised from moment 1 but I loved him for it, Glitterhearts - Specter, a villain, its always so interesting to figure out what xe will do in a given circumstance, Magic Sword - Cantator Brass, also a villain, for the 18 seconds he was alive, 21. Where do I draw inspo from?
Usually some mixture of media will inspire me for a games conceit, I'll use a game that hasn't happened yet for an example, Unkindled, my 2nd level wizard horror short game, draws some from Naddpod on its Hexblood arc of a short story elsewhere in the world of the main game, though Unkindled is no longer attached to a larger campaign it inspired me for the shortform satisfaction, Hexbloods also was the inspiration for the monoclass game design. Meanwhile I was thinking a lot about resident evil 7 as I was exploring my interest in horror, and that drew inspiration for some of the design choices that I won't say because of spoilers, and perhaps most prevelantly, reading a good rpg sourcebook always sets the brain alight. 33. Slex pisses literally everyone off, presumably, sets his staff on the wall, and head and ass depart for the library. (For context, Head and Ass were the names of the two heads of an Ettin that was a pc played by 2 people)

15: Favorite Battle Memory but top 5 bc i keep remembering things
5. Cult of the Godhead, Final Confrontation: Jerry was the one lieutenant of the cult of the Godhead that survived the cults first run in with the party. He was a characteristic fuck up, and the party and the cult had enjoyed trashing him in that first fight, but he made it out barely, rebuilt the cult, and was now in the University of Maynild, along with his cultists, bringing down a blast of fire to try and vaporize the city. Features of the fight that were fun included four small rituals that had to be disrupted for Jerry to die, the fact that the fumbling cultist was now a constantly melting and screaming avatar of destruction, a bunch of flameskulls that got absolutely fucked by being trapped in a wall of wind with -5 strength, the fact that the XP value for the fight was 4x over the deadly threshold i believe and they still won, and that the final blast of fire that was established to be fatal instantly if they were still inside when it hit, and the Artificer and Monk stayed inside to kill Jerry, but survived with rope trick which absolutely blindsided me and caused me to cackle giddily. 4. Lord of the Woods: The party made one of their rare excursions out of the city in the Altruism campaign, which took place almost exclusively in the City-State of Maynild, investigating the disappearance of one of the Orphan's Guild, a group of the downtrodden of which they were members. Turns out, she was a runaway heiress to the Wood Elf settlement that lived in the treetops of the forest near the city. In rescuing her, a fight broke out, which was very cinematic, involving battles on bridges a hundred feet above the ground, the summoning of giant elks whose legs had been mistake for trees on the entrance of the forest, a near tpk, and the zealot barbarian finding faith by hitting a 4 on a D100 roll to summon divine power that permanently reduced his hit point maximum but saved his party and started a whole character arc for him. 3. Reverend Galahad: The Good Reverend had come to the city in guise of a charitable sort, but of course, was a chaos demon worshipper, as you do, working to build the strength of an ill organized rebellion that he knew would eventually collapse, leaving the already unstable city worse off than ever. The interesting part comes after the battle with the lord of the woods, where the previously bitter and pessimistic barbarian found faith, and decided on.... Reverend Galahad on his mentor. When later on, they confronted him about his connection to a string of kidnappings and found he was who he was, it was devestating for the barbarian, who had never asked WHY his cleric multiclass gave him trickery cleric levels. The fight itself was fun, the chapel being sealed in darkness as walls of warped obsidian became grasping portals to the abyss, and the reverend let out a mighty cackle that hurt my ribs to perform and shocked my table to silence, a rare occurrence. That battle caused the trigger of necrotic wave tied to food the reverend had served in the past, including to commoners who were friends of the party, forcing a tight timer (that was beaten by a single turn), lost the fighter to the Abyss, forcing a planehopping adventure and some unsavory deals to resolve, brought a new phase of the barbarians arc, and cost the same barb his leg, which was in the wall as Galahad was slain and the walls returned to normal. 2. The Anchor Ritual: Finally looking at a different campaign (I haven't actually DM'd much.... good 5e,) this is for Magic Sword, where there is a level 6 chosen destined to kill the King of Temerity and Artifice, the 3 level 11 guides who must protect her while on that journey, and the level 9 anchor, who, while alive, allows the guides to be reincarnated if they die. There is no other form of resurrection. However, before that reincarnation can function, the guides must be bound to the Anchor with a ritual, which was the opening of the campaign, and also was immediately attacked by the kings loyal troops, including Durandal, the King's Sword, the warforged soldier that the first Chosen
One, who had failed, has become. As it was, the party barely completed the ritual, with 2 of 3 guides dying before the rest of the party managed to escape, and the Anchor was, if not for a reaction using the rune knight cloud rune by one guide, almost killed as well. It was a pulse pounding, edge of my seat, exhilariting experience and I hope i can top it this campaign. 1. The Grand Finale: At the end of the Altruism Campaign, this was. The biggest DnD session I have ever and quite possibly will ever play. Having fought their way through the undercity to the ruins where the prophecy their mentors avoided half a century before, having seen the revolutionary who'd been their uneasy adversary for the whole campaign betrayed by his own mentor to further this prophecy, having seen their own mentor, and the rest of his party, struck down by the last member of their party, Khan, the last of those demigods, closing in behind them. Pincered between a lich and a demigod, one of whom will kill a city to make his power eternal, another who will kill a city to save the world, the party took them both on in a frantic three way combat, that ended when the lich fell, and the ceiling did as well. You see, the combat was dual phased. When one enemy fell, the ceiling gave way and the combat moved above ground, as the forces of the other enemy come to back them up. The Jerry fight was the party in over their head. This was absolute madness. Summon Rolls for allies, a constant stream of enemy soldiers, 4 horsemen astride nightmares, a mixture of mechanical and undead, isolating and striking down party members, the fighter fighting back to back with her wizard girlfriend, the dwarf artificer buffered by mounted foes slashing him as his alchemical wings took him to the sky, the monk slain in a back alley, only for her phoenix feather to reincarnate her and her to keep fighting despite being horribly exhausted from the ordeal, the bard being reiunited with their beloved for the first time in decades, and the barbarian, doing a repeat of the woods fight, this time with intent, taking the last gift of the party's dead demigod mentor, and holding the awakening power of the city in his own body, going toe to toe with the undead shell of the Khan, who had given his own life to fulfill the prophecy but fought on to see it finished, burning out his remains until there was nothing left..... but the city was saved. Nine and a half hours. That was how long the final session took. and at the end, I was filled with nothing but Adrenaline.

2, 5, 15, 17?
2. What was your first time running a game like? It went.... poorly. I ran the opening of lost mines of Phandelver, for 2 of the 3 people who had agreed to play because one could never make it and never ended up playing, and in that first combat with goblin bandits the rogue got a nat 1 and for some reason I thought it was a good idea to have his arrow hit the downed cleric, killing him. It was later walked back through some spooky undeath things but, uh, yeah. 5. What is your favorite part about running game? This is tricky because there are a lot of things, but a couple highlights would be: - When players are theorizing and getting increasingly excited about stringing together the clues they've been given - Pulling off a twist well, and registering reactions as dots rapidly connect - When a player surprises me with a fun narrative rp direction of their character, especially if the surprise comes from them leaning into their character more than i expected 15. what are your favorite battle memories? do you have a favorite villain/enemy/monster you’ve played?
oooo gonna do top 5 in separate post just because I'm excited I can remember that many, 17. What is your proudest improvisation moment? I'll be honest this may be cheating, but it was an absolute campaign shattering move I was hit with and I had to roll with it both for the end of that session and every session since. I run a Glitterhearts game, which is supposed to be a very genre transforming hero/magical girl ttrpg. It was going to slowly darken, building to the reveal of the murder of 4 of their 5 predecessors. Except one of them had a move that let them see the memories of someone he touches. Which includes his brother. The one survivor. So that came out session 2, instead of like, at the end of act 1, which ended up being 22 sessions long, But the description really sunk its hooks into people and the game is still going strong, despite that insane pivot that everyone had every right to quit after,

4, 10, 30, 38, 47
4. have the highest and the lowest intelligence score?
Highest is Zayjia for sure, as a high level wizard, lowest would be..... I think my ranger Moonstone? I often prioritize int over my physical dump stats (str or dex depending), but Moonstone was my good old raised in the woods character, so no int for them.
10. is the hottest?
I never considered this before honestly, but maybe Beatrix Strom, my upcoming Dhampir Cleric/Fighter MC, but of the ones I've played either Franto, who was very classically handsome and just a good egg for sure, or Juno Tenpenny, who is the one pc I've played that shocked a table to silence with the smoothness of a pickup line.
30. is the biggest jock?
Braent Mustardseed. It's like, one of his two traits.
38. is the best with kids?
Probably Parch, for reasons of being a dad (honorific), or Franto, for having real would be trusted as a babysitter energy,
47. Which would you least like to change places with?
Franto or Sico, the former because he is dead, the latter because he is wanted and/or hated by almost every country in the known world, his sister is dead, he has betrayed the people who have shown him kindness and mercy, etc, etc, et-
