my issue with love triangles-
Welcome to my ted talk about the most famous romance book trope, and why I hate it
(ignore typos, I'm dysgraphic)
1. It's not a love "triangle". The first point is petty I know, but as an art student and geometry enthusiast, I need to point out at it's not a love triangle if person B and person C both like person A. It isn't unless the trope is gay, which would actually make the plot more fun to read since everyone is wanted a liked by different people
2. Frankly misogynistic. I just find it so weird that most of the time two men are fighting over a woman like she's an object. like rather than fighting over her they should fight for her, you know?
3. Predictable af. it's so clear who she's going to pick most of the time. Plus the trope is so overused, it just gets boring to watch. I am sick and tired of a white girl complaining about which guy to make her boyfriend, the white broody mysterious man, or the exact copy of him except he has "tan skin" "skin the color of golden sunlight" or "olive skin tone".
Of Course, there are some exceptions and love triangles that I genuinely enjoy-
1. Cassandra Clare- Any love triangle that she writes is just perfect. Simon, Jace, and Clary? Iconic. Will, Jem, and Tessa? Literally love all three of them and each ship gets a happy ending in some way, plus they are practically a throuple. Cristina, Kiren, and Mark? It was an actual love triangle where everyone had a crush on everyone so she made them a canon throuple. Absolutely amazing and so well written.
2. Twelfth Night- Shakespear- this is for my classic lit fans, Literally the OG love triangle.
3. Thats it. I don't know any other books with good love triangles, though do reblog n let me know some good ones. ;-;

I asked some of the women in my family (plus some friends) what they would think if a husband was told life-threatening info about his pregnant wife without ever telling her.
I didn’t tell them it was based on a fictional story.
They were absolutely horrified and disgusted by that idea. They said that if they knew that the husband was keeping this info, they would tell the pregnant woman right away (and suggest that she leave him). It took us down a rabbit hole of talking about how far women’s reproductive rights have come.
Just some food for thought.

OKAY STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING AND IMAGINE KAZ ASKING NINA TO TAILOR HIS HAIR AFTER SHE TOLD HIM IT SUCKS
KAZ LIKE DROPS HINTS HE WANTS NINA TO HELP BECAUSE HE'S TOO PROUD TO ADMIT IT
"Zenik, I had a few questions about tailoring...for research purposes... so you can change anything about someone's appearance?"
"Well Kaz, it's honestly more than that, you see the small science is about-"
"I don't care, can you like change my- I mean someone's face or eye color or...hair maybe?"

I can respect certain views on Nesta, even if I somewhat disagree which usually consists of whether they believe she was abusive or not. I honestly think it can be interpreted any way, and so, I respect the opinion some have about Nesta being abusive. My stance has always been that the text is too unreliable to gouge their relationship to that extent, but if their tumultuous relationship is read as abusive and triggering, I truly understand it.
My biggest problem with the conversation around abuse though, is that it isn’t consistent. It’s not consistent at all. When R/hysand, F/eyre, C/ass, M/or, and A/mren are concerned, that courtesy isn’t reciprocated. Where Nesta is more a case of unclear writing, the Inner Circle is a case of horrible framing. Leaving F/eyre out of this, the actions of the remaining Inner Circle were abusive. It’s not really an argument of clarity, they actually do the abusive deed. Nesta receives their actions as...abuse. She fears R/hysand and A/mren and she is under their control. It’s abuse, considering the fact that Nesta has never been antagonistic to any of them: not physically nor verbally (speaking about R/hys and A/mren — M/or’s o.g comments were made in private, so I won’t include her). Not ever, and not in the scene. Their violent reactions to her are not facilitated by anything valid. Nesta has never been an asshole to the people directly making those abusive remark. While F/eyre’s “abuse” is more misguided, and unintentional, The IC’s is not. Their remarks are to gain power, to establish themselves as the ones in charge — which is a staple of abusive familial relationships (which is why I can understand the arguments against Nesta).
Let’s think about R/hysand’s main distinction between the sisters. While both Nesta and Elain are “bad sisters” only Nesta is treated with scorn. How is Elain conceived during her depression and how is Nesta? R/hysand’s immediate problem with Nesta is her...unwillingness to conform to his will. F/eyre isn’t necessarily the one with this mentality, she’s misguided in the way Tamlin was — as in she thinks pushing her sisters trauma down or undermining that it exists will make the problem go away. She’s more unaware about how to approach the problem, like Tamlin was with her, and I can’t really be mad at her to that extent. But R/hysand is not like that, the first think he does is compel Nesta, even when she hasn’t said anything to him or to anyone for that matter. R/hysand and A/mren’s actions were abusive. While I fault F/eyre because of her experience, I think SJM’s writing can be the culprit here. I’ve been hard on F/eyre and I dislike her but I do not think F/eyre in WAR would have done something like this to Nesta (because she literally didn’t, even when she could have). So through and through, this series is too inconsistent with what it views as abuse and what it views as morally good. I can respect different iterations of characters, but I think the conversations aren’t consistent!
[edit: also the same conversation about abuse —specifically r/hys sexual violence/abuse against F/eyre is never taken as serious turn offs or as a valid form of abuse even though his behavior is literally consistent. The conversation around is always justify and never understanding about how triggering that is and the argument is then “you shouldn’t have read the book” which is literally dismissing the fact that it happened. If R/hys and Nesta got a consistent conversation, that’s would be fine but the don’t...]

this is mostly aimed at book twitter but sometimes i feel like people miss the point of cardan having a tail. they'll be like "how is his tail hot" and i'm like. who said it’s meant to be hot?? it’s supposed to be unnerving, to signify cardan’s imperfections. he's not even human—his tail SHOULD make you uncomfortable. it's mad how holly black made him the polar opposite of the quintessential YA love interest but people just interpret him that way anyway and then go on to complain about the very traits that make him un-human. in the politest way possible, i think some of you got brainwashed by sjm's romantic and sexualised idea of the fae. you’ve forgotten faeries are literally NOT PEOPLE. they're creatures. cardan is uncanny and immoral. his tail encapsulates his fickle nature and his separation from jude/mortality in general and honestly thank u holly black for the refresher

EXACTLY YES
i get so confused when people refer to the darkling as ”morally gray” like ????????
because morally gray means they posses both “good” and “bad” values when it comes to what’s ethical. I genuinely don’t know a single instance where the darkling did something “good” that wasn’t for personal gain.

Okay, I'm going to say this once and for all,
Kit Herondale is canonically bisexual! He is attracted to both girls and boys.
If I see YET ANOTHER comment on "iT's nOt hIs GiRlfrIenD bUt bOyfrieNd!!" I'll scream.
It's possible that Kit may have a boyfriend that Tessa is unaware of, BUT it is also possible for Kit to have a girlfriend.
BUT CAN Y'ALL PLEASE STOP STRAIGHT-WASHING KIT OR HATING ON HIS POTENTIAL GIRLFRIEND??
If this isn't biphobia, I don't know what is!
