Some of my monsters have tongues, some don’t. If you see me give a monster a tongue when they originally didn’t have one, or vice versa, just know I forgot :(

Able to traverse through water and land, these monsters won’t hesitate to drown you or attempt to shove you into their gaping jaws
Mermaids and Hanarks are known to fight one another. Their food sources and territories tend to overlap, so we believe this drives them to aggression with one another
Variations in limbs have been observed with these monsters, from them having either tendril-ish appendages that end into hands, or them having fully structured arms.
While awful to deal with, they thankfully don’t have the numbers that mermaids do. Seeing two Hanarks together is incredibly rare as is - Jim

Valdis stuff
Idk what I have or haven’t shared about him at this point tbh.
I think I do need to elaborate more on how him growing in a theater influenced him, how he stole his outfit and name from a actor at said theater, and his insecurities over others like him more. But I’ll do that in the future :)

As a monster grows, their skins hardens to the point it constricts their movements. Tears in the flesh happen the most around areas that require the most moment
However monsters that are able to stay wet or moist, either from being aquatic or from secreting their own mucus or saliva tend to avoid the tearing problem entirely

Spine Taps entry
Spine taps are spindly multi-tendriled monsters that lurk around tall structures and hide within them. It’s advised to be on guard when exploring unsecured dilapidated buildings as encounters with spine taps can be deadly.
Theses ambush monsters will latch their toothed face around a humans head and their ‘spinal columns’ claws will dig deep into a humans back to keep a steady support. If their tendrils were not lost in the ensuing scuffle they will proceed to wrap them around and constrict on the individuals arms, chest, and neck.
Removal of the spine taps can result in either paralysis with heavy trauma to the back, or outright death. Depending on the size of the spine tap, how deep its claws sunk in, and whether improper methods were used for removal all factor into whether or not a person can successfully recover from the parasite.
In trials a hosts weight and height factor into how long they can live with the Spine tap feeding off of them, in most cases though hosts only live 1-2 weeks.
When the host perishes, Spine taps will unlatch themselves from the corpses back and proceed to seek out soft ground to undergo metamorphosis.
Each attempt to cut open the pod to observe the process has resulted in failure and death of the growing Spine tap -Jim

Spine breakers are big bug-like creatures within the infection zones.
Their flesh sports a thick chitin covering running from the head all the way to its abdomen. Bullets alongside heavy blunt objects can crack the armor, but all hunters are advised to avoid the monster at all times. Climbing up or hiding under roots, debris, or within buildings is recommended if the monster starts to charge after you.
Attacking the monster isn’t at all recommended, but if necessary hunters are encouraged to hurt them by striking their weaker underbellies or by setting them aflame.
The real threat of theses monsters is not how they will tear you apart or eat you alive but rather how they reproduce. If one manages to successfully catch a person, the monster with attempt to hook and position the persons lower torsos within their mandibles and attempt to twist, bend, and even shake the person violently to snap and break their spine.
If the person dies during this process most will leave the body alone and hunt for others, however if the person is still alive then it will carry them away to its den. Feel free to kill the injured. It is considered a mercy to kill the injured person if you can.
When theses monsters are within their den, they’ll proceed to force their ovipositor deep down the persons throat where eggs will be deposited.
The host will then be kept alive as long as possible by the parent monster. It’s believed that the host dying would be detrimental to the eggs and eventual offspring within them.
When the eggs hatch, they’ll remain within the host leeching off their nutrients and body until they grow strong enough to eat away the hosts internals and eventually gnaw and burst their way out of the dying host. -Jim

Old art and doodles I don’t think I’ve posted
Some monsters change drastically as they grow and age. Valdis is one such example, he started life pretty weak and defenseless, however luckily for him he grew up quick and his older form was more suitable for hunting and defending himself.
He eventually changes to be more and more humanoid in form, slowly the dog-like form eventually phases out entirely.
