People who loathe Holden give me bad vibes he’s a misguided teenager struggling deeply from unprocessed trauma and mental problems why do you hate him so much
not caring about why the author intended the curtains to be blue is the reason why most of you misinterpret the entirety of the catcher in the rye and it's sad
I mean, how can anyone read this and not see how caring and sweet Holden is. His life ambition is to protect the innocence of children - it is not a self-serving ambition at all.
“Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody’s around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I’m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I do all day. I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be.””
I recently finished reading The Catcher in the Rye. I was quite stunned about halfway through by how disliked Holden Caulfield is and how unwarranted it is. He is a depressed teenager with questionable coping mechanisms, sure, but it astounds me how people villainise him so.
People talk about Catcher in the Rye like Holden Caulfield spends his time kicking orphans he finds on the street and then u read the book and he’s literally just some guy
Anyone else haunted by the conflict that comes from living a life?

I don’t understand when people complain about “likespamming.” If I see the same person 20 times in a row in my notifs, even if they don’t reblog anything or follow me, I’m excited that they came to my gay little museum and had a good time! That’s literally what it’s for!!
