Maintaining a high level of physical activity can possibly lengthen your life as well as improve the overall quality. According to PT in Motion News, 80 percent of Americans aren’t meeting physical activity guidelines set forth by the US Department of Health and Human Services. Finding the time or the motivation to stay active is difficult for many people.
The key is to find a fun activity that you enjoy doing and that also fits your current fitness level. If you spend your days hobbling painfully from your bed to your reclining chair and back, the notion of pursuing any kind of vigorous activity may be the furthest thing from your mind.

When a person is living with arthritis, especially in a weight-bearing joint like the knee or hip, taking an opioid for pain relief can be very tempting.
The unfortunate truth is, however, that while opioids can temporarily relieve pain, the arthritic bones still continue to grind together, making the underlying cause of the condition even worse.

When you repeat the same workouts, it’s easy to fall into a rut or reach a plateau. According to Women’s Health, each time you repeat the same routine, your body becomes more accustomed to dealing with that same physical stress.

Chronic back pain can prevent you from performing the countless daily tasks you need or want to perform. Even when you’re not engaged in activity, your back pain may be keeping you miserable 24/7.
Did you know that approximately 80 percent of Americans have experienced (or will experience) back pain? That’s a depressing statistic, especially if you group yourself in with those people! Many turn to over-the-counter medication and opioids for help, but don’t be so quick to assume that drugs can provide more than temporary relief, or that surgery won’t create more problems than it solves. We suggest that you go with the healthy, natural way to kiss your back pain goodbye: physical therapy.

When it comes to physical therapy and exercising for good health, both cardio exercise and weightlifting have equal importance. Once your end goal is determined, the decision on which will serve the best purpose can be made.
For example, cardio exercise is unquestionably the best choice for increasing stamina and endurance. Conversely, if bulking up or regaining physical strength is the ultimate goal, weightlifting is the way to go.

Exercising on a regular basis is a great way to both maintain and improve your health and wellness. However, if you’re not stretching before and after your workouts, you aren’t taking full advantage of a complete workout routine.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “stretching can increase flexibility and improve your joints’ range of motion, helping you move more freely, and ensuring that you have equal flexibility on both sides might help protect you from injury.”

Most Americans will suffer temporary back pain at some point in their lives. When back pain is not temporary, however, it becomes a major quality of life issue. The American Physical Therapy Association states that back pain is the most commonly experienced form of pain for Americans.
In fact, one in every four Americans has sustained some sort of back pain in the past three months. The good news is that you don’t have to live with back pain permanently.

You’ve got so many things you want or need to do today – but they’re going to have to wait until you get your pills. Prescription opioids are powerful drugs that can cause pain to subside for hours at a time.
Unfortunately, they can also cause serious new problems in your life, from the risk of overdose to the stifling grip of addiction. If you’ve been depending on opioids just to make everyday life tolerable, it’s time to find a safer, healthier, less frightening alternative.

Manual Therapy For Providing Relief From Pain
Manual therapy is a specialized type of physical therapy done using hands rather than using any device or a machine. In manual therapy, the therapist uses pressure on muscle tissues and manipulates the joints to decrease the back pain caused by muscle spasms, muscle tension, etc.
Types Of Manual Therapy
There are various types of manual therapy techniques used by physical therapists to provide relief from pain or swelling in a person. Before providing manual therapy, the therapist usually assesses your blood supply in that area. They also perform an assessment of your bone and your muscles for deciding whether there is an increased risk of any complications from using manual therapy techniques for pain relief.
Various manual therapy techniques for pain management are as follows:
Muscle Energy Technique - Muscle energy technique is designed explicitly to mobilize the restricted joints and lengthen the shortened muscles. The procedure is defined as the utilization of the voluntary contraction of the patient muscles against a distinctly controlled counterforce being applied from a precise position in a specific direction by a practitioner. Following a 3-5 second contraction, the operator takes the joint to a new barrier where the patient again performs muscle contraction. It may be repeated about 2 to 3 times. The technique is considered an active procedure instead of the passive procedure where the operator performs all the tasks. It is seen that the muscle energy technique is tolerated well by a patient and doesn’t put stress on any joints in the body.
Soft Tissue Mobilization - It is essential for recognizing the role of muscles and their attachments around the joints. Muscle tension often gets decreased once the joint motion has been restored. But there are times when the spasms will continue to be present. In that case, muscle tension has to be addressed. Otherwise, it can lead to joint dysfunction in a person. The primary goal of soft tissue mobilization is breaking up the inelastic or the fibrous muscle tissue such as scar tissue from any injury in the back, muscle tension, etc. The procedure is most commonly applied to the musculature surrounding your spine, and it also consists of deep pressure and rhythmic stretching.
Joint Mobilization - It is very commonly seen that people get diagnosed with a pulled muscle in their back. These patients are often seen to have been instructed to use heat and ice therapy to treat the conditions. Using these techniques can make you feel good, but the pain may return after a few days because the muscle spasm responds to a restricted joint. Joint mobilization leads to loosening up of your restricted joints and thus increases the range of your velocity and increases the mobility of your joints. Joint mobilization is usually a painless technique unless the therapist or the operator approaches the barrier aggressively.
Conclusion
Manual therapy can be beneficial for treating the joints in a human body that lacks adequate mobility and range of motion due to specific musculoskeletal conditions. A certified physical therapist can be beneficial for providing manual therapy to treat pain in a person.

Physical therapy can help you govern your pain without drugs, giving you the opportunity to break away from opioids.
Long-term opioid use is not a good strategy for chronic pain management. Opioids simply relieve the symptoms (pain) of a larger problem, which increases the risk of addiction.
Physical therapy has been shown to be a far better option than opioids or other pharmaceutical painkillers for achieving real, measurable pain relief.
