happy pride to the aces xx
since pride month is coming up or whatever:
include aspecs in your pride. include aces and aros and those that are aspec in other ways; include those that are somewhere on the spectrum; include aros that aren't ace; include aroaces; include aces that aren't aro; include aspecs in relationships; include aspecs that never want relationships; include cishet aspecs; include aspec identities you don't hear about often; include our flags and include our voices
we are as much a part of this community as any other queer person

follow up post somehow some aphobes got into the comment section ? i've been ignoring them and so should you, you're still valid ! and thank you to all those who supported this post ! i'm glad some people felt less alone by it !
i've also been told that being demisexual and graysexual is different from being cishet, so putting that out there. also i'm not where in the ace spectrum i belong to anymore honestly. either way, happy pride !
i'm tired of being told that being demisexual or graysexual is just some fancy label for cishets who want to fit into the LGBTQIA+ community.
sexuality is not a choice, i can't control who i'm attracted to and the circumstances in which i experience sexual attraction.
to me it makes perfect sense that demisexual and graysexual people are in the ace spec because a lot of times i (as someone who uses both labels) do relate to other people in the spectrum like let's say people who identify as aroace.
while i understand that being cishet does not invite as much societal oppression as being not cishet, but when did the community become about oppression and not inclusivity ? (tbh i really feel guilty about using the label sometimes because i don't want to falsely co-opt the struggles of the people who are actually oppressed)
even cishet demisexual and graysexual people are allowed to identify as ace and are part of the lgbtqia+ community, period.
(p.s. i mostly had to say all this so i can feel comfortable in my identity)

I’m so fucking done with discourse around ace and aro identities, so I’m just stating my opinion as many times as I can at this point.
They
Are
Spectrums
You feel little to no sexual/romantic attraction as an ace or aro person! You can still feel a small/rare amount of attraction!
Libido ≠ attraction, so get out of here with the whole ‘aces don’t want sex!’ Because there are sex favourable aces!! Sex repulsed aces are just as valid and we need to appreciate the ace community in all of it’s glory!
Aromanticism is the same! Aros can want romantic relationships/enjoy romance without feeling romantic attraction because they’re not the same thing!! Romance repulsed aros are also very valid (I’m romance repulsed irl but invested in fictional romance lmao)
And loveless aros!! People always try to claim that love is what makes us human, so let’s stop with that because it’s not true and pretty aphobic.
Every acespec and arospec identity is different, and we should be appreciating each identity and how every experience is going to be unique in its own way.
If you’re not aro/ace you have no right to talk over us about our own communities as well so please just stfu.

If your favourite character wouldn't kill for you, exile you with carefully phrased words, pluck out someone's eyeball for you or build magical tents while thinking of you or confess their love for you in the rain, you need to find a new favourite character

what queerbaiting is:
setting up, advertising, or alluding to queer relationships in media with no intention of actually depicting that relationship in order to capitalize off of queer viewers without scaring away general audiences.
what queerbaiting is not:
popular fandom ships not becoming canon
ambiguous or unconventional queer stories
real people experimenting with their gender or sexuality
and anything else that doesn't fit the definition above

no because tao is such a real character i can’t believe people think he’s annoying for being scared of change. i’m thankful to alice for writing him because i really relate to that.
people calling tao xu annoying are completely overlooking the fact that he is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD, and his life is shifting like sand beneath his feet. he watched charlie, one of his closest friends, get bullied by the very people charlie is now spending huge amounts of time with. he supported charlie through that, and doesn’t know that nick and charlie are secretly dating. his best friend elle has moved schools, and he supported her through her bullying and misses her desperately (and he is slowly falling for her, and scared of THAT friendship changing too).
the moment he finds out about nick and charlie, he drops the antagonism, accepts nick, and apologises to charlie, acknowledging his actions made it hard for charlie to tell him about nick. he is a straight boy who is unapologetically supportive and defensive of his queer friends, throwing words AND fists if necessary. he is a fifteen year old who wants the best for his friends, who loves them deeply. tao xu is not annoying. he is a boy with a heart of gold absolutely overflowing for those around him.

imagine if he was even internally homophobic (considering the kind of people he used to surround himself with)
he wouldn’t have the opportunity to truly be himself or even have experienced his relationship with charlie.
he followed his heart and communicated his emotions well. i wish i was like that when i was fifteen.
what really gets to me is just how earnest nick is about his feelings for charlie, despite how confused he is about himself at first. he immediately goes to charlie the next day after their first kiss because he wants charlie to understand he doesn't regret the kiss, he's just really conflicted about himself. he doesn't ignore or shut charlie out while figuring out his sexuality and wanting to keep quiet about it at first, unlike ben. he makes it clear to charlie that he really likes him and doesn't want to go on dates with anyone else despite not being official yet. he gets really emotional when he wants charlie to realize how amazing and wonderful he really is and that he's changed nick's life for the better, and that he doesn't regret a single second with him. nick just communicating with charlie throughout the whole process is such a refreshing change from some of the shows we've gotten with lgbt+ representation in the past, and i'm so glad that lgbt+ youth and the community in general have a show like this to watch.

"A ship can never truly love an anchor." dude shut up. a ship without an anchor gets dashed against the rocks. it's useless, completely at the whim of the currents. a ship loves an anchor so much it carries it everywhere it goes. the anchor gives the ship the world to love. dude.
