20 - When did you first join Tumblr? How long was it between that and finding [fandom]?

I joined Tumblr back in 2014 for an old fandom (at the age I shouldn't really be on the internet lmao) and got into Rick and Morty around… 2016 I remember getting into it when S2 just ended.

22 - Give us a headcanon for [character] (Hermit Jerry)

ohhh I'm bad at writing these but lemme try!

He had a wound on his ear that he got from hunting Cronenberg (post-S3/ pre-S6)

(delusion) his hair must be really soft to the touch.

(realistically) his hair wouldn't be soft to the touch.

he got really good at embroidery. <3

His hands feel really rough and calloused. (fun(?) to touch :) )

one day when he was mourning about his family he suddenly got who Beth was referencing v here and goes 'ohhhhhhh'

pretty much all Jerrys don't make much sound when they walk, including Hjer.

After he was in a calmer mindset (but not a healthy one) he stopped killing every cronenbergs he met and sometimes just chilled and chatted with them in the hope they still had some humanity inside that would respond to him

this is more about the whole family but after the world got Cronenberg-ed. Summe got into archery and got so good at it that she began to teach Beth and Hjer (who refused to learn at first and struggled so hard to learn that Beth had to help teach him ( meeseek ep ref :3)) insp from this pic....

I think a lot about his costume in S6 and how it was probably made for him to blend in more with the environment. // tw : self-harms

he has a lot of scars now after S3, whether it's from the hunting, accidents, or something else. probably the reason why he is overdressed in S6

if he ever makes contact with other people again. He would have a dry sense of humor.

also, you should take him to a BBQ.

he never questioned Prime's young appearance cause all Ricks were the same to him.

23 & 24 (Jerry)?

23 - Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?

Rick and Morty specifically, but when I first watched the show I actually really liked Morty. It changed around the end of 2016, the exact moment when that one RnM comic issue dropped. U_U Maybe in another universe, this account could have been a Morty stan acc

As for the ship, it is kind of a 'when your view of a character changes, your feeling towards a ship also changes' situation. which is what happened with jerrick. plus, I think I just prefer the selfcest ships more now than before.

24 - What's your favourite thing about [character]?

ohhhh, I think my favorite thing about Jerry is that he looks like a shallow character but when you keep rewatching the show, you notice bits that you thought. wait, he isn't a shallow character! But when you watch the show entirely he DOES feel shallow!! But at the same time he is not!!!

It is very complicated because of how he was written and treated. He is like a part of the story that never got actually extended. Even though he changed so much after 7 seasons it felt like we still know so little about him. he feels like the only member of the family whom the writers have no plan for in the first place. It is so easy to understand why people disliked him. but why is he like this? I don't know!! He IS a frustrating character to like or rooting for. especially when you've liked him since S2-3. Even though S6-7 has been nice. I often feel like it could crumble at any moment. It's like an eternal torture. But becauseeeeeeeeee, he was written like that. He felt so human to me. he isn't like any characters I have liked before that it's kind of brilliant. He become like a blueprint for any new character i like. Even if I ever move on to other fandoms, without doubt he is gonna be there, at the back of my brain. I hate what the writers did to him in some season. but without them he wouldn't be the character he is today.

so, despite all the frustrations, I don't think there are any characters that will have this much impact on me like Jerry has. at least right now.

tldr : it's a toxic relationship.

Do you think Jerry Smith deserves the hate from his family?

honestly? IT DEPENDS

Jerry is one of the most pathetic fictional men of all time and he constantly made it known, if that makes sense?

the hate Rick had for Jerry in the first few seasons is truly understandable — a young Jerry knocked up his 17 y/o daughter, which forced her into a situation where she felt the need to have the baby and get married to him. he gets by in life being pathetic and making people feel sorry for him, which is why I DON'T hate the conflict between him and Rick at all. however, I would've liked a scene where Jerry calls Rick out for potentially abandoning Beth (not knowing what actually happened)

I feel bad for Summer, she used to be quite close with Jerry and Jerry seems to take advantage of that, or at least TRIES to. in S2 Ep 9, Look Who's Purging Now, Jerry tried to get Summer to give him money, since he lost his job in S1 iirc. I'm pretty sure it's happened a few times because of it. also, she's a teen, teens hate their parents and stuff, so yeah

with Beth, I hate it for the most part. she was so obviously in a toxic relationship with her father that never really got addressed until Space Beth showed up, but it wasn't even explored all that well. she's so quick to hate on Jerry because of Rick's grudge against him, which would've been such an interesting topic to discuss — addressing the trauma she's gone through instead of just playing it out for jokes. I also don't like how toxic Jerry and Beth's relationship is majority of the time, and how they never explore it unless it's for a joke. it could be funny, yeah, but it's really just a waste of an opportunity to address their toxic behaviors and better them as characters

finally, with Morty, I get why he thinks so little of Jerry. he's a young teen viewing the world more from his grandpa's point of view. his views on life and the world around him is so heavily put into hsi head because of Rick, WHICH I LOVE TBH. I just dislike how.... they don't explore it very well....

Rick having a huge impact on Morty's thoughts and how he goes about his life is something I wish was handled better. they practically just said "this relationship is toxic, Rick is gonna fuck off for half an episode, then come back and everyone is gonna hate him" but that's a different story

also SPACE BETH — HER HATING JERRY IS GOOD FOR HER CHARACTER ‼️‼️ her getting along with Jerry nowadays is FINE, but SB is literally just Beth's more toxic traits exaggerated. and I love that about her, I love their rivalry. I always liked Beth and Jerry's rivalry tbh, but sometimes it'd get out of hand (which is what I was talking about earlier), and I dislike that their relationship has just become like "man I hate my husband", "honey I built a jigsaw :D". takes the fun out of it, makes it just.. sad

#such a good post #everyone in the family has a understandable reason to dislike Jerry #which could be explore in a way interesting way #but since he is just a side-joke-character #so everything is basically play for laugh (at him) or just rushed for 'character development'
