Iorveth Appreciation Week ficlets

Hi everyone, it's me again, deluding myself that I'm definitely still tumblr-free

I've kind of been drowning in elf feels throughout the latest lockdown, to the point that I actually managed to write a few bits and pieces in honour of my favourite squirrel terrorist last week.

I had hoped to find enough time to finish up a bigger Iorveth-related meta project I've been working on, to post on the final day, but that project somehow just keeps getting bigger ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least I made something for all the days with specific prompts! Thanks @iorvethappreciationweek for organising all this 💚🐿️🏹

Day 1: Love languages

1k words, G. Pre-relationship Isengrim/Iorveth.

Isengrim remembers Iorveth as little more than a skinny wretch, freshly recruited from the slums of some human city.

Day 2: Admiration

650 words, G. Dara & Iorveth.

Prompt: - (Free Day) Fandom/Series: The Witcher Characters: Iorveth, Vernon Roche, Eskel Pairing: Iorveth/Roche/Eskel Rating: T Length: 2,625 words Summary: Eskel doesn’t know what to do with himself after the Battle of Kaer Morhen. Roche and Iorveth lend comfort where they can. Warnings: some angst, references to character death, mourning, smoking Notes: It took me forever to decide what I wanted to do with this day (I am much better with prompts than without…) and I’m still not sure I 100% love the end result? But it was fun to write nonetheless. And hey! More rarepairs! \o/ @iorvethappreciationweek​ was TONS of fun, thank you to everyone who followed along with my silly lil fics! <3

“Eskel.” Iorveth is the first one to sit up and look at him. After a moment Roche does, too. Eskel looks haunted, his usually so kind face drawn and empty.

“Apologies.” He looks at them as if waking up from a dream, like he doesn’t know how he got here in the first place. “Am I-“

“No. It’s fine.” Roche makes a swift movement with his hand. “You aren’t…interrupting anything.”

“Unable to sleep?” Iorveth asks. It’s not like he and Roche don’t know what it’s like. Eskel nods. He still looks almost embarrassed that he’s here although Iorveth has a perfectly clear idea as to why.

“Lambert is with Keira, Geralt with Yen and Ciri,” he explains. Iorveth can easily parse the rest for himself. “Usually, I sleep- slept next to Vesemir on nights like this. He’d snore like a cave full of bears.” A spasm of grief travels over his face, sharp and bloody.

“We can’t promise that sort of snoring,” Iorveth says.

“But we can promise two warm bodies that are not your own,” Roche finishes the sentence for him. “Join us.”

Eskel hesitates, enough to make Iorveth roll his eye and lift the edge of his blanket.

“Come on. You weren’t exactly shy about joining us before,” Iorveth points out.

Prompt: Touch starved & flowers Fandom/Series: The Witcher Characters: Iorveth, Letho Pairing: Iorveth/Letho Rating: T Length: 2,189 words Summary: Iorveth finds Letho after the battle of Kaer Morhen. Warnings: some angst, references to character death, sex & violence; this is very tame Notes: @scylla-rammshorn​ has infected me with her love for Letho, so of course there was going to be some Letho/Iorveth for @iorvethappreciationweek​! One of my most favourite Letho headcanons is that he loves plants and gardening.

“Why are you here, Iorveth?” Letho asks. “Surely not just to tell me about what the Wolves are doing. Are you here to murder me? To finally take revenge for your lieutenant?” His eyes harden and once again Iorveth is reminded that this is a witcher standing in front of him, one of the deadliest beings alive on the Continent.

“No.” Iorveth doesn’t move from his position. “I’ll never forgive you for what you did. But, if someone had offered me the return of Dol Blathanna, this time for all of us and not just a select few…” He shrugs. “We all have blood on our hands. Some more so than others.”

“You’re growing soft in your old age.” A smile curls around Letho’s lips. It should look out of place on the face of a bulky giant and master warrior like him, but it doesn’t. Iorveth looks at his dusty, soil-covered hands, the carefully unearthed celandine plant, and remembers how he had chosen the garden of Cáelmewedd as a meeting point. For a moment he wonders what kind of life Letho would have led had he not been a witcher. Certainly not one that would have involved a lot of killing, that much he is sure of now.

“Wait until you are my age,” Iorveth gripes back. He estimates he has at least a hundred years on the Viper, if not two hundred or more. Letho snorts.

“Unlikely that I’ll live that long,” he says.

Warnings: Graphic injury, fever dreams, Hurt/Comfort, permanent injury Notes: Also known as: THE SOFT OLD MEN RORVETH RETIREMENT AU WE ALL DESERVE. I think this is definitely one of my most favourite fics I’ve written for @iorvethappreciationweek​ because I was just shamelessly indulging in a lot of tropes that I love very, very much. Hope you’ll enjoy it as well!

“What am I doing here?” he finally asks, once he trusts his voice to be stable enough to speak. His earlier impression hadn’t tricked him – this is indeed a small house, sparsely furnished, but clearly a well-kept, lived-in home. The home of one Vernon Roche, former commander of the Temerian Blue Stripes no less.

Roche looks…different. Not worse than the last time Iorveth has seen him, more the opposite, but he certainly isn’t the same man either. There is a beard on his face now, for once, well kept and neatly trimmed. No more chaperone either to hide his curls from view – instead, they have grown longer, framing his face now, with traces of grey shooting through both hair and beard. It makes him look both younger and older at once, but certainly less severe.

“I saved your life.” At least he is just as direct as the old Roche was. “You’ve been recovering here for the last two weeks.”

“You-“ Of course. Of all the ghosts, he had been the only one that was real. “Why?”

Roche takes a deep breath and exhales through his nose. He holds the cup out for Iorveth to take another sip again.

“I don’t know,” he finally admits. “I found you by mere chance. It seemed…undignified for one of the most wanted war criminals on the Continent to die such a death.”

“Ha.” Iorveth snorts. “I remember you said something similar, back when you saved me from getting hanged.”

“It is as true now as it was then.” Roche shrugs. “Except that now, I am no longer acting in the interest of Temeria. Just my own.”

“’Your own’.” Iorveth feels one edge of his mouth curl up in a mirthless smile. “If I didn’t know any better, I would feel flattered.”
