What percentage of Americans had lost a family member to the war in the Pacific at that time?
Not justifying it or saying it was ever right, but to explain how anyone could think that. Read a few prisoner of war accounts, or especially some detailed accounts of eg. the rape of Nanking, and you can at least see how a person could want to kill nuke the daylights out of Japan or kill literally everyone in Japan.

Buddy, just go look at romance novel titles and summaries.
Seriously tho, I suspect this is explaining the joke, but the obvious next step in your progression is that the promise of a wife controls the rest, and so the whole thing can absolutely be a "really" run by the prospective wives.
The only power block that can possibly matter to achieve change is young men. The only way they can possibly matter at all is by getting enough of them to form into a military and taking power by violence. The only thing that can possibly motivate them to do this is the promise of a wife. Somebody who is good at communication should figure out how we sell this program to women.

I fully agree with you thesis that different ways of presenting the news can create a different message from the same facts; learning this was my big takeaway from journalism classes.
But why the heck are you setting Qatar-funded Al Jazeera as the contrast to CNN for a Middle Eastern news story?
I just don't consider myself to be informed on a news story until I read a minimum of three different news sources on it and ideally four: right, left-libs, center-ish, and local (the local reporter often has context that nobody else does, like how local funding battles or personality clashes or another event close by in space and time affected response).
US media does this very effective thing where if you are a persistent/critical/diligent consumer of the news you can almost always get the right set of facts, but the editorial slant, what gets coverage and what doesn't, what punditry gets an audience, etc will lead anyone who isn't to very different conclusions.
I did a test a while back where I compared CNN and Al Jazeera's Palestine coverage and confirmed that once you read through everything, they said basically the same thing every day. But the tone, the frequencies of what was mentioned, the weasel words, all of that was noticeably different.
I don't really know what to do about this. I don't know how you would meaningfully regulate it - it's all very amorphous and hard to explicitly prove it's happening. There was a nice statistical analysis of the NYT bias that got passed around, showing how much more frequently Israeli sources were quoted than Palestinian ones etc, but I fear that even if you did set out metrics for bias they would just get Goodharted to death.
And in a world where most people aren't critical readers, it feels kind of existential, if we're ever going to make democracy work.

Having worked security in a few apartment complexs of various class statues, there appears to be a rule that the cheap complexes wildly overcharged for laundry, like $5+ and didn't have enough working machines. Also sometimes the laundry room was in a part of the building that wasn't open to residents 24/7, which meant that I often had to negotiate with people trying to get their clothes dry when I had to lock the area up.
Expensive apartments have their own washer dryer.
Small apartment buildings, like 3-8 unit places, sometimes have 1 or 2 washers and dryers in the basement. Usually they're technically coin operated, but they aren't updated for years so they're like $1 in quarters. Sometimes this is ok, but still requires getting down shitty stairs or around outside to the spooky shitty unfinished basement.
the reason we have personal washers and dryers instead of laundromats is that laundromats are inconvenient and unpleasant to use. the people talking abt communal longhouse lifestyle etc have perhaps not experienced it. i can do my laundry at 2am in my underwear for free, it owns. i don't have to trudge out carrying a bag of laundry to a dirty building somewhere else. and if i lose a sock i know exactly where it is

There's also the possibility that the trait is beneficial in small doses despite being bad in large doses; sickle cell anemia is the classic example.
With ADHD in particular, I've noticed that I have yet to meet a millennial age security manager, male or female, who doesn't have an ADHD diagnosis. I'm pretty sure that there's a combination of traits associated with ADHD that are particularly suited to the pipeline and job of security management. I'll elaborate if someone wants to send an ask, but the way I am starting to suspect sleep works for ADHD folks is an important part of it.
i'm pretty fucking sure we've got the ontology of autism adhd and schizophrenia all mixed up and confused. also i'm pretty sure that at least to some degree these natural human variations are adaptive

Watching Contact for the first time in 2024 feels a bit odd. Sigourney Weaver's wardrobe is great and overall aged fantastically, but the plot and character motivations... Really feel like they're from another era. Like, who in 2024 cares if a scientist is an atheist?

There's a certain pattern of thinking that I've seen in myself and in others, where you tell yourself, "The reason I am not more successful and wealthy is because I have ethics. If I abandoned my ethics, I would be more wealthy and successful."
Sometimes the thing people are holding back from is sex work, other times it's just being management, or working for a medical device company or munitions company or oil company.
And the thing is, sometimes this belief is based on reality; if this person would only abandon their ethics, they would be immediately rewarded with a lucrative job. But a lot of the time, this entire belief is straight up cope, both for the person's income and status, and them trying to convince themselves that their ethics matter, that they really affect their lives.

Ok, so this is just your science fiction imagine spot, not a serious proposal. Alternatively this is a shitty psychop from a non predominantly English speaking superpower, lols.
Not sure why you needed to include conversion therapy and genetically engineered? female solders in your imagined better world though.
I love how you just ignore the economics of the situation too.

How? Why would elite men be upset about having fewer competitors and hence better leverage on the dating/marriage market? Why would men in the classes below be upset about upward mobility opportunities and again, a strong position in the dating/marriage market? When there has been a shortage of eligible batchlors historically and in certain countries today, this has resulted in strong positions for the men who remain.
Also, this is one of those proposals for massive change that appears to have forgotten that countries have to be able to at least appear capable of engaging in wars of defense to dissuade others from attacking them. Demographic trends are absolutely one of the pieces of information that go into these considerations.
Any country that found itself with 90% of it's men gone would have an economic collapse and almost certainly be invaded.
we should create a feminist movement that encourages mothers to only give birth to females.

My grandma's funeral was like this, just all her kids and grandkids getting up one at a time to say how she never said she loved them. Best funeral I've ever been to because it was the group emotional mourning of the shitty person she was rather than mourning her death, but damn did we need that.

The original proposal is... Honestly very bizarre. There's been multiple times in recent history, and countries even today where the gender ratio has been skewed heavily female. These instances don't seem to have been particularly matriarchal though.
However, to be fair, haven't heard sex selective abortions previously called "eugenics" even when they are practiced by a particular minority ethnicity in a country (can be seen in the demographic data).
Whole proposal seems like it is either genuine stupidity or that particularly feminine form of trying to fool other women into acting against their own interests and in the interests of the advice-giver.
we should create a feminist movement that encourages mothers to only give birth to females.

I should be allowed on the roof of every building and on the inside of every elevator room. I should be permitted in every cellar and every vault. I should have license over all the data in all the data-stores. It is my birthright
